There's supposed to be a Rare announcement (if Moore lives up to his word), and I'm sure with the acquisition of Lionhead we'll get some kind of game news about that.

I'm hoping to see MGS4, as well as a new Tekken and GT. So they're all sequels, but hopefully that will make the progression all the more noticable.

I'm just excited to see ANYTHING about Revolution. I just don't see how they are going to manage to squeeze everything in there two hour announcement. They have a hell of a lot two talk about. DS Lite, Revolution, price points, launch games, show some vids, explain wi-fi connection on Revolution. Downloadable games? Price points for those... and so on. This should be a good E3 showing for Nintendo

IT BLOWS MY MIND HOW SOME GAMES HAVE TROUBLE FINDING PUBLISHERS. YOU'D THINK ALL THEY HAD TO DO IS SHOW SALES FIGURES FOR THE 'MAX PAYNE' GAMES, AND EVERY PUBLISHER IN THE BIZ WOULD BE SUCKING UP TO THEM, AND BEGGING TO PUBLISH IT.

Well keep in mind, Alan Wake isn't a hip-hop themed game licensed off a white clothing manufacturer who actually grew up in a suburban town.

But seriously, I am disappointed in the publishers of today. They seem to think the game industry is about developing bottom lines, instead of about making desirable, quality products that result in good bottom lines.

This year's E3 is going to be a blast. I can't wait to see new info and gameplay footage of Too Human and Metal Gear Solid 4. I also hope Bungie finally unveils Halo 3 at E3 - that's gonna be a showstopper.

Oh and Sega...where's my goddamn Shenmue 3 and the sequel to Panzer Dragoon Saga?!

Judging from the interviews I've seen of Silicon Knights, and the company's track record in general, I'm very much excited for Too Human. Though the info E3 brings of it will also probably be a delay, I want to see more of this game. I'd also like to see more MGS4 footage, preferably gameplay and the "nowhere to hide" mantra applied to practicality, but the game I really want to see for the PS3 is Project Assassin.

Oh and Sega...where's my goddamn Shenmue 3 and the sequel to Panzer Dragoon Saga?!
Sega can't hear you, they're too busy trying to "develop their relationships" (acquire) with mediocre-to-decent western developers and second-rate sports licenses.

I've all but given up on Shenmue, sadly. After Microsoft published Shenmue 2 for America, I had strong hope that if Microsoft had bought Sega (like they were offering to) they would have continued the story. Sega became stupid and Sammy ruined everything.

Yu Suzuki's working on something, but I'm having trouble recalling what right now. It doesn't matter though, because it's not Shenmue 3. :(

While I have no doubts Halo 3 is being made, and even though Bungie said their "next project" was "surprisingly playable", I think Microsoft would rather let E3 be about it's games that need more press. Too Human, Mass Effect, Gears of War, Rare's next game, maybe Shadowrun, etc. need all the attention they can get, and any hint of Halo 3 would instantly absorb every last Xbox360 journalist out there, effectively, Microsoft killing their own E3.

They could just "leak" Halo 3 info at some arbitrary point in any month from then until the PS3's last few weeks before launch, and let consumer hype do the work itself.

There are always the X0 events in September. Halo 3 could be announced at X06, that would be only months before the PS3 and Revolution's releases. It would definitely spur interest in the Xbox360 in a time when PS3 hype will be at an all-time high, and if Shane Kim's lucky, it will get more people buying more 360s for Christmas than otherwise when the PS3 is having it's massive shortages.

Mass Effect (X360)

Sad that it's the only three games I'm remotley interested in this year, so far.

Edit;
Halo 3 shouldn't happen. There are too many games that people are only semi-interested in that need to have a good show. Like, N3 and Gears Of War. If they just said "HEY BY THE WAY HALO 3 IS COMMING!" then thats all anyone would rave about for the whole show. Come on, give Microsoft more credit than that

That's my bet. Halo 2 was announced at X02 afterall, and in trailer form. With Bungie's "next project" being "surprisingly playable" circa three months ago, it may actually give us both a trailer and a gameplay demonstration.

I have a strong feeling Microsoft would want to announce it then. It just makes the most sense. And with the Halo movie coming out about half a year from when X06 will be, I'd say Microsoft could actually get bigger excitement for Halo 3 than there was for even Halo 2.

But they don't want that kind of crushing weight laying down on Gears of War and Too Human, that's a small reason I think it's going to skip E3. Their plan is probably something like this:

Get anticipation for Gears of War, Too Human, Mass Effect etc. up.
Announce Halo 3 at X06 to raise Xbox360 demand in wake of competing consoles.
Many people buy Xbox360 in preparation, and/or for replacement of the PS3 during shortages, want to know what great games are currently out.
Many people see Too Human, Gears of War, Mass Effect, etc. Viva Pinata for the kids.
Voila, free franchise-booming with the powerful help of Halo.

That's what I think at least. It makes sense to me.

Halo 3 is going to rock hard, just like the first one, possibly even more. Bungie got a little too ambitious for Halo 2 (the ideas they talked about in the previews were mindblowing) which was a lot more than what the Xbox could handle. The souped-up hardware of the 360 would now give them the power they need to make the game they've always wanted - a truly amazing game in it's own right, one that would hopefully redeem them of the disappointment of Halo 2.

The Halo gameplay model would be greatly enhanced by environments sized as the ones in Farcry. I hope Bungie does everything they can to give Halo 3 the massive areas it deserves. When they started making Halo 2, they tried to make it look like Doom 3, which meant their levels had to be very small. Unfortunately, as you could see in the documentary, the lighting system never really worked out anyways, so they sadly had to tone-down Halo 2 and in the end Halo 2 felt like an inferior port of a superior game.

I have no doubt that the 360 can perform whatever challenges Bungie throws at it, but first of all, Bungie needs to be more organized with their ideas this time around.

You might have read the huge cover story EGM did on Halo 2 around a year before the game's release, perhaps even before the first announcement trailer. There was tons of planned stuff that didn't make it into the game.

To start with, the infamous E3 in-game footage of New Moombasa was completely changed.

The game originally was slated to have a lot more vehicles - as far as I recall, there were at least four different versions of the Warthog and a new weaponless but ultra fast ATV-type vehicle.

The designers said that they also had a whole mission take place on a moon, complete with less gravity etc.

The levels were planned to be more along the lines of the first game's Silent Cartographer level, in that you'll be fighting alongside friendly A.I soldiers quite often right in the middle of huge warzones ala Saving Private Ryan.

And last but not least, Jason Jones highlighted that a big part of Halo 2's gameplay and story was about "taking the fight to the Covenant" in full-scale war.

Judging from that last one, I can't help but come to the conclusion that Bungie hit the reset button on Halo 2's development halfway through when they realised that the simply can't pull it off (this is very much apparent in the Bonus DVD features) and instead, concentrated squarely on multiplayer features.

The ending of Halo 2 also screams of the "back to square one" syndrome in that it is quite obvious that the third game will also start like the second one, with the Covenant launching a full-scale assault on Earth and the Master Chief diving in with guns blazing once again, and so, in Halo 3, we'd see what Halo 2 really would have been.

There was tons of planned stuff that didn't make it into the game. To start with, the infamous E3 in-game footage of New Moombasa was completely changed.
That level was incredible. Better than everything in Halo 1. It's a shame that didn't make it into the final game, but there was a short homage in one level that lasted about ten seconds.

The game originally was slated to have a lot more vehicles - as far as I recall, there were at least four different versions of the Warthog and a new weaponless but ultra fast ATV-type vehicle.
I remember that. There was a vehicle even specifically designed for snow levels, even though the final game didn't actually have a snow level. (Well, there was that section of the one, but as it sucked so much it doesn't count in my book, not when levels like "Assault on the Control Room" exist).

There was also this Batmobile-looking Covenant vehicle that I was expecting to see, a picture was leaked or by someway discovered alongside the leak of those bug-type aliens. The bugs made it in, but the awesome vehicle didn't.

The designers said that they also had a whole mission take place on a moon, complete with less gravity etc.
Again, an element of this did make it into the game and absolutely not as cool as what was scrapped. There's a part in the first level when you're walking on top of your space station, that was really lame. :(

The levels were planned to be more along the lines of the first game's Silent Cartographer level, in that you'll be fighting alongside friendly A.I soldiers quite often right in the middle of huge warzones ala Saving Private Ryan.
That's something I felt was far different from the first Halo. Halo 2 definitely lacked the amount of "platoon" missions that Halo 1 had. The one that stands out most to me is in the inside of that big Covenant city, but that was nowhere near the standards set by Halo.

And last but not least, Jason Jones highlighted that a big part of Halo 2's gameplay and story was about "taking the fight to the Covenant" in full-scale war.
At this point, I hope the team pulls a Kameo, upgrading the graphics sufficiently, and then having 5000 people onscreen. I know just from Kameo, the power of the 360 could place you in a warthog running over thousands of Covenant "on their own turf", we'll just have to see what Bungie wants.

Judging from that last one, I can't help but come to the conclusion that Bungie hit the reset button on Halo 2's development halfway through when they realised that the simply can't pull it off (this is very much apparent in the Bonus DVD features) and instead, concentrated squarely on multiplayer features.
And I'd really like for them to bring in everything they cut out of Halo 2 into this one. It was Jamie Greissemer I believe who said that they in fact did have to start over, just because everything they were working on up to that point had no cohesion. I'd like for them to revisit their unfinished work and squeeze it into the Halo 3 campaign. I would still like to play the E3 2003 New Mombassa level, as well as see the Chief with even more fidelity than he was first shown with. All I can do is hope, or just expect Bungie to make something even better.

It's true Halo 2's campaign was rather inconsequencial, even the non-Arbiter parts. However, despite the game's development hell, it's still surprisingly one of the best games on the Xbox, and of this generation. It's clear the multiplayer half of the game didn't run into these problems, because there's not to much wrong with the multiplayer technically (it's the players and cheaters who mess it up).

But the important things are that Bungie has learned from this, has moved to a new location, and has expanded it's team sizes. Halo 3 ought to be pretty awesome.

Agreed

Sega was stupid on that decision. It would have beneficial to both Sega and Microsoft if you ask me. Sega would have gotten its reputation as a maker of first party console games again and it would make more GOOD games if they were bought out by Microsoft instead of the crap they make with Sammy, Sonic has reduced to the 15 year old house pet that now craps on the rug. Microsoft would have benefited by gaining Sega's Japanese reputation, had a good foothold in the Japanese market and wouldn't be the embarassment it is now in Japan, and Sonic could have been the mascot for the Xbox like Mario is for Nintendo's consoles and Crash Bandicoot was for the original Playstation.

However, despite the game's development hell, it's still surprisingly one of the best games on the Xbox, and of this generation. It's clear the multiplayer half of the game didn't run into these problems, because there's not to much wrong with the multiplayer technically (it's the players and cheaters who mess it up).

That's why I trust in Bungie as a developer. Truly a talented lot. It's a shame that their extreme ambitions took a toll on the final product. But with the power of 360, they just might be ready to deliver an undoubtedly kickass product.

But the important things are that Bungie has learned from this, has moved to a new location, and has expanded it's team sizes. Halo 3 ought to be pretty awesome.

Of course. If both Halo 3 and MGS4, both killer apps of their respective systems, manage to show up at E3, it's going to be a battle of the titans all over again. I hope Halo 3's release date coincides with MGS4's, which will make it the third time Microsoft's premiere franchise collides with Kojima's baby. :D

I doubt it, well probally see more of Solid Snake and his faction (Otacon, Meryl, Mei Ling, Naomi, Raiden, and Rose). The only bad guy we'll probally see is Revolver Ocelot/Liquid Snake.

However, I wonder if Vamp will join Solid Snake's faction, considering that they share the similar goal of bringing down the Patriots and Vamp is to be in Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.

Edit;

Halo3 will get an announcement, along with more info on the first Halo film.

I wasn't saying that Grand Theft Auto will be a temporary Playstation 3 exclusive, like Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas were for the Playstation 2. I was saying that the Grand Theft Auto franchise is too established into the Playstation brand that, Rockstar cannot ignore putting a Grand Theft Auto onto the Playstation 3.

It'll either be a permanent exclusive for the Playstation 3 or will be simultaneously released with the Xbox 360 version.

MGS4, as relevant to the upcoming E3 trailer.

To throw this in from Murata's old blog

- Original TGS trailer was only intended to be 10 seconds long. It was to show Snakes new model. It was just him standing up with his bandana waving in the wind.
- Kojima decided while putting that trailer together that he wanted to include alot more and so the trailer went from 10 seconds to 9 minutes.
- Otacon's final model differs greatly from his TGS model.
- Textures were a rush job to get completed.

Essentially everything you saw in the trailer aside from Snake was them rushing to get something together by that time. Which isn't all that surprising since Kojima later admitted to EGM that during the process they didn't have enough time to include civilians in the trailer. So you can pretty much expect the E3 trailer to look alot different from what we've got now.

The only reason it sounds redundant with the whole "the face of war has changed" bit is because it's technically two quotes fused together. The blog went like this:

"The face of war has changed. It moved from a policy of determent to all-out control, and with this, the threat from weapons of mass destruction disappeared. The control of the battlefield also meant the control of history."

Why would they change Otacon's model? The one in the TGS trailer was perfect.

If anything, Snake's is the one that could use some minor tweaking. I never hear anyone complaining about Otacon. It's Snake who constantly gets remarks like "He's too old," "They should make him younger," "He needs a beard," "The moustache is teh ghey."

Uh, Nintendo is going to release "a **** load of information" regarding the Revolution and have playable demos on the show floor as well. The PS3 is long overdue for releasing specs and price info and much of the excitement surrounding the console that was present last year has faded away. No hard feelings, but I guess it's just a difference of taste. In the end, we're all MGS fans .

I agree with your assessment of Snake though, to some extent. I have no problem with him looking as old as he does. If this game takes place a decade after MGS2, his appearance makes sense. But the 'stache has got to go. Give him something more in lines with what he had in MGS2 (a scruffy beard without a moustache). If Kojima wants to show off the PS3's power, a beard can look more detailed than a tiny moustache.

I'm more excited for Nintendo at E3 than Sony. Nintendo has had some rather lackluster E3s for the past couple of years and hopefully this will make it up for them. I want to see what games are comming out for the system, more Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess info, the specs of the system, the remaining mysteries of the system, the price, the launch date, to find out if Resident Evil 5 will end up on the Revolution, etc.

Fixed!

No, this is Zenien we are talking about, she will promote this game like hell claiming it to be the Halo-killer the Playstation brand is waiting for (Killzone was a good game, but it definetly was no Halo-killer, by a long shot another game which Zenien whored out), and how awesome it will be. She would never promote it as a Halo rip-off.

However, this is Insomniac, these are the people behind the good Spyro the Dragon games and Ratchet and Clank games. So this one is bound to be awesome as well.

Dude I have a Fox Mulder feeling that Resistence actually might come close to killing Halo 1 and Halo 2 and then Halo 3 going to come out and no ones going to be able to touch it. GOD DAMN BUNGIE for making no room for improvment.

lol I'm sorry if I'm annoying you guys with the whole PS3 thing I'm just excited for it don't get me wrong the Revelolution will kick ass I love the controller for FPS. However I think Sony is releasing everything right now at E3 because if you think about it Sony will be launching it in like six months prior to E3 so the hype will be all new and the demand will be greater if anyone sees it that way like me.

Sorry for screwing up the Darkness, 2k games are going to be releasing it I just meant there was going to be a playable demo for it at E3 possibly. I'm still planning on scanning the pictures in so check for that possibly tommorrow.

so anyways sorry if I sort of went Lizard#1 in this thread and totally was crazy and like posting irrelevant stupid things these are just my views and how I see it working for Sony is all. E3 is going to be tight as hell and I can't wait.

Well really I think Resistence still looks tighter but I mean they both have the same generic feel to the game. Dark and depressing which I love that atmosphere for FPS.

Hey Cardplayer was Darkwatch any good? I need a game to rent do you reccomend? Also can you try and get the Resistence demo off of Multiplayer.com or whatever that place is that had the Darkwatch 2 because it seems the guy who sent me on had a bug and I can't read the language of that website.

HUDSON TAKES FLIGHT ON REVOLUTION

New Rev wand flying game set for unveiling at this year's E3 - could it be that ever-elusive new Pilotwings?

9:53 Whizzing through the inter-ether this morning, news of a brand new Revolution flying game from Hudson comes courtesy of the latest press release from those zany folks behind the wheel of this year's E3 juggernaut.
Tentatively, and imaginatively, referred to as "Flight game", the PR gumph describes the game thusly: "Take to the skies in a way never before experienced on any home console. Using the Revolution's "Gesture System" built into their innovative controller, Hudson's new "Flight Game" allows total plane control as players pilot their planes through various acrobatic flight manoeuvres ranging from sky artistry to bomb drops."

Keen-eyed readers will no doubt spot the similarity between this and one of the early Revolution tech demos, shown to journos at TGS last year, in which a paper plane could be pitched and steered over rooftops by tilting and turning the Revolution controller. Although no further details are currently available - nor expected until E3 finally rolls around - our tiny speculative hats are quivering with the possibility this might turn into the long-rumoured return for Nintendo's seminal Pilotwings franchise.
While we'll admit we could merely be clutching at straws of hope and desperation here, it's worth remembering Nintendo's recent collaborations with major developers on some of its largest franchises - in particular Sega's take on F-Zero and Namco's efforts with Star Fox. And, you know, at least F-Zero turned out okay. With Hudson being a long-time partner with Nintendo - most specifically on the relentless Mario Party games - it's not wholly inconcievable the companies could be working together on a Pilotwings title.

Still, as we're so fond of saying these days, all will be revealed when E3 swings open its doors this May.

RIDGE RACER 7 ROARS ONTO PS3

Playable at E3, with 14 player online mode revealed - blimey that came up in our rear view mirror a bit quickly

10:02 Namco is working on a new version of long-standing power-sliding favourite Ridge Racer 7 for the PS3, according to the latest word from out East.
According to our old friends at respected Japanese publication Famitsu, work on Ridge Racer 7 is already well underway and, surprisingly, it's set to make its playable debut at this year's E3.

The latest word is that Ridge Racer 7 is being developed by series producer and PSP vet, Hideo Teramoto, and it's being directed by Masaya Kobayashi with sound duties being performed by Hiroshi Okubuo.

Not too many further details to report, other than the intriguing news that Ridge Racer 7 will roar online with up to fourteen players on the PS3, so severe multiplayer action is certainly in prospect. Once again, trademark Ridge Racer virtual icon and racing queen Reiko Nagase (pictured) will be fronting the racing franchise, which can be no bad thing.

With E3 roaring ever closer, like an Artic bearing down on an unsuspecting hedgehog, we'll be hoping to bring you first impressions of Ridge Racer 7 in action, live and direct from the E3 show floor.

YET ANOTHER CRAPPY PREMISE TO USE THE GIMMICKY "WAND". :down

UNLESS YOU'RE USING A FLIGHTSTICK, NO CONSOLE FLIGHT-SIM WILL EVER FEEL BETTER THAN 'CRIMSON SKIES:HRTR'.....PERIOD.
I'M GUESSING THAT THIS GAME WILL HAVE YOU DOING BARREL ROLLS BY SWIRLING THE WAND IN A CIRCULAR MOTION OR SOMETHING. THAT MAY SOUND INNOVATIVE, BUT IT'S REALLY STUPID, WHEN YOU CONSIDER NOT EVERY HUMAN HAS THE SAME RANGE OF MOTION AND SPEED IN THEIR ARMS, SO THERE WILL HAVE TO BE A STEEP LEARNING CURVE.

AND, WHILE I'M ON THE SUBJECT, HERE'S SOMETHING I WAS THINKING ABOUT THE OTHER DAY, CONCERNING THE "RANGE OF MOTION" ISSUE WITH THE 'REV' CONTROLLER: IF YOU'VE HURT YOUR SHOULDER(S) AND OR ARM(S), YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO PLAY YOUR 'REV', BECAUSE MOST OF THE GAMES WILL BE FORCING YOU TO USE THE WAND'S FEATURES. THIS WOULDN'T BE A PROBLEM WITH A STANDARD CONTROLLER, SINCE YOU CAN JUST HOLD IT IN YOUR LAP, AND MOVE A FEW FINGERS. IF I'M OFF WORK, DUE TO AN INJURY, PLAYING VIDEO GAMES WOULD BE MY #1 PREFERRED WAY TO PASS THE TIME; I GUESS NINTENDO WANTS ME TO DO CROSSWORDS OR SOMETHING. :down:o

THEN WHAT'S THE POINT? HAVEN'T YOU SEEN THE PICS AND VIDEOS OF PEOPLE (PRETENDING) TO PLAY GAMES WITH IT? THEY AREN'T SITTING ON A COUCH WITH THE THING IN THEIR LAP.......THEY'RE USING IT LIKE A "WAND".......LIKE IT WOULD MAKE SENSE TO DO. IF I'M GOING TO PLAY A SWORD COMBAT GAME (ZELDA ? ) WITH THIS THING, AND IT DOESN'T REQUIRE ME TO "REAL" SWORD-WIELDING MOVEMENTS, THEN IT TRULY IS JUST A GIMMICK ANYWAY. BUT, LIKE I SAID, THE REAL PROBLEM IS, NOT EVERYONE WOULD HAVE THAT SAME RANGE OF MOTION. 'NINTENDO' CLAIMS THEY'RE GOING AFTER ALL AGES......KIDS AND GRANDPARENTS ALIKE. WELL, I HATE TO TELL THEM, BUT GRANDMA ISN'T SPENDING MORE THAN 2 MINUTES WITH THAT WAND, BECAUSE HER ARTHRITIS AND BURSITIS WON'T ALLOW IT. AND LITTLE JOEY WON'T HAVE THE COORDINATION, YET, TO DUPLICATE THE ACCURACY THAT YOU'LL GET WITH A STANDARD CONTROLLER, WITH MAPPED FUNCTIONS. THESE ARE THE THINGS I'VE BEEN SAYING SINCE THE FIRST DAY THIS CONTROLLER WAS REVEALED; IN ABOUT 7 MONTHS, WE'LL ALL SEE WHAT HAPPENS.

I'm fine with Snake looking old. It's that damn....well, we all know what I'm going to say ;). Seriously though, I'd love for him to have facial hair like he had in MGS2. I loved that look.

Naturally Snake's design is going to be tweaked from what we saw in September. That might mean slight alterations, or perhaps a complete makeover. Either way, he's going to look far better than the TGS trailer. And if what Zenien said about the textures being rushed is true, then this game is going to look unreal.

Revolution Details Coming to Famitsu
Next week's issue promises early E3 scoop.
by Anoop Gantayat
April 20, 2006 - Revolution is starting to get some buzz even in Japan. Earlier today, we reported on a scan of an upcoming issue of Jump Magazine that seemed to confirm Dragon Ball Z for Revolution. While the validity of the scan has yet to be confirmed, we can confirm one Revolution bit: a Revolution game or games will be unveiled on the pages of Famitsu next week.

Famitsu is currently publishing a "scoops" section in each week's issue, leading up to E3. This week's scoop was Ridge Racer 7 for the PlayStation 3. In its preview for next week's issue, the magazine promises details on Revolution software as part of the scoops section. It may be one game, it may be more than one game -- we'll have to wait until next week to find out for sure.
Check back late next week for more.

Square Enix reveals E3 lineup
Japanese game behemoth continues to bank on its Final Fantasy franchise with six of the series' games at the show; new installments of Mana series and Valkyrie Profile will also appear.
By Dan Tochen, GameSpot
Posted Apr 24, 2006 1:58 pm PT
Today Square Enix launched its Electronic Entertainment Expo Web site and revealed its game lineup for this year's show. It's no surprise that Final Fantasy games take top billing; the company will present no fewer than six Final Fantasy games on handhelds and consoles, and will also show two more for cell phones.

The full announced lineup is listed below, with tentative US release dates in parentheses. Unless otherwise noted, Square Enix has promised that these games will be playable.

Final Fantasy XI: Treasures of Aht Urhgan for the PlayStation 2, Xbox 360, Windows (already released)--This Final Fantasy XI expansion is the only game that Square Enix will show for the Xbox 360 and Windows platforms.

Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII for the PlayStation 2 (summer 2006)--This game is set three years after Final Fantasy VII, and stars Vincent Valentine in conflict with mysterious invaders called the Deepground soldiers. The game combines shooter elements with classic Square Enix RPG action.

Dawn of Mana for PlayStation 2 (release TBD)--The first true Mana sequel in a decade, Dawn of Mana will break the 2D mold and brings the franchise's world to three dimensions, while still attempting to preserve the look and feel of the originals. Dawn of Mana will be shown on video only.

Final Fantasy XII for the PlayStation 2 (fall 2006)--Square Enix touts two innovations in this game: "Active dimension battle" and a new combat system. The active dimension system lets players move seamlessly between exploration and combat, eliminating the random battles and the accompanying load times that disrupted the experience in prior games. Meanwhile, the new combat system lets the player define rules governing the character's behavior--an innovation that Square Enix refers to as the "gambit" system.

Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria for the PlayStation 2 (2006)--Square Enix has implemented an updated combat system in this game as well: an evolution of the prequel's well-regarded battle system.

Children of Mana for the Nintendo DS (2006)--This game allows four players to play together, either cooperatively or competitively, and follows in the Mana series' tradition of action RPG gameplay.

Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime for the Nintendo DS (2006)--This is the latest game from the creative team behind the 2005 RPG Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King. The hero of this brand-new action adventure is a slime--one of the most popular monsters from the Dragon Quest series. Players will take control of the slime and employ unusual mechanics like bouncing and stretching to solve puzzles and rescue captured allies. The game also employs the Nintendo DS's wireless capabilities to offer head-to-head combat.

Final Fantasy III for the Nintendo DS (2006)--The only Final Fantasy that was never localized, the third installment of the original series, will finally come to the US. The original game has been revamped with completely reworked and remodeled graphics in full 3D.

Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth for the PSP (2006)--The classic PlayStation title Valkyrie Profile, originally released in 2000, is coming to the PSP system with completely new CG cutscenes. The game is developed by tri-Ace, the company that created the popular Radiata Stories and Star Ocean series.

Final Fantasy V Advance and Final Fantasy VI Advance for the Game Boy Advance (both 2006)--The latest GBA revamps of the long-running role-playing series will not be playable on the show floor, but will be shown in video form.

Square Enix will also be showing off an array of cell phone games, most notably Before Crisis - Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy I, both set for a 2006 release. Also announced but with release dates to be determined are Brave Shot 2, 3D Space Invaders, Chase H.Q. 3D, and Elevator Action 3D.

New mystery Rev feature revealed
Wednesday 26-Apr-2006 3:35 PM Nunchaku controller attachment said to feature accelerometer/motion sensor technology

Following Nintendo's initial Revolution controller unveiling at TGS last year, company execs have variously admitted that not all the next-gen console's secrets have been revealed. However, it seems that the cat's now been let out the bag regarding a second unique controller feature in the form of an accelerometer/motion sensor inside the machine's nunchaku attachment.

Reports first surfaced on the web last week and the rumours were given further credence after website AMN claimed to have spoken to a source close to Nintendo who confirmed the news. Now though, CVG has been informed by another well-placed development source, understandably speaking under strict conditions of anonymity, that the reports are indeed true.

Advertisement:Initially, the notion of a sensor in the nunchaku attachment might seem a little strange, what with the wand-style controller already being fully spacially aware. However, factoring in the nunchaku's ability to sense movement in various direction, all manner of new possibilities arise. Most obviously, in FPS games for example, the secondary controller could be used to look around your environment, alongside controlling movement, meaning the wand would remain free to aim and fire your weapon at all times - imperative for those frantic gun-fights.

As always though, without official confirmation from Nintendo itself, it's impossible to entirely validate the reports. Still, for now we're happy to file this one under "almost a certainty" if not actually "definite", until the company steps forward and reveals all at E3 next month.

Konami's First Revolution Title Revealed
Famitsu gets the first word on Elebits. Details inside.
by IGN Staff
April 26, 2006 - Japan's Weekly Famitsu was promising a big Revolution scoop this week, and this appears to be it. The magazine is home to first details on Konami's first Revolution game, the all original Elebits. Shingo Mukaitouge, known for his work on the Guitar Freaks and Drum Mania series, is serving as producer.

The magazine was able to reveal only a few specifics on the new title. In Elebits, players move around a game world, attempting to find and collect Elebit creatures. Elebits are small and cute like Pikmin, but they actually serve as the energy source that makes the game's world move. The "Ele" in the name appears to stand for Electricity, with the "Bits" reflecting that the characters are tiny.
As you find Elebits, the game world will slowly evolve. The game will offer a feel of "hunting," suggesting that perhaps the Elebits won't just be sitting around waiting to get caught.

Specifics, including genre and gameplay systems, will have to wait until a future update, although Mukaitouge was able to add a few more details in an interview with the magazine.

The Elebits game design stems from three concepts, Mukaitouge revealed: letting the player feel like they're actually touching the inside of the screen; finding stuff by moving things; and Konami's creation of a new character, the Elebits themselves.

The first two areas are of particular interest due to their dependence on the Revolution's controller. Konami wanted to be sure and create something that could not be replicated on an existing controller. While not going into specifics on how exactly players will use the controller, Mukaitouge suggested the image of real time movements of on-screen objects based on movements of the controller.

With the cute Elebit characters, Elebits may seem like it targets casual users. The game will include some stages that can be played in under 10 minutes, but core gamers will also find lots of secret content. Network functionality is also being considered, although this is an area that will get Konami's attention only once the single player experience has been fully developed.

Further details on Elebits are expected at E3. The game is currently without a release date.

I might make a suggestion for E3 to avoid too much clutter in this thread. Why not create a seperate E3 thread for each Company (Nintendo Sony Microsoft), seperate but equal sort of thing. :o

This thread could still be updated or whatever, it's just that it will end up pretty disorganized with ALL the E3 info being posted in it.

It doesn't make sense for Microsoft to announce Halo 3 at E3 when they could just do it at X06 right before the PS3 and Wii (lol) launch. They could focus on less-titanic games for the gaming public and get them their deserved limelight.

A uk mag recently previewed lost planet and said that it played 'perfectly', saying it's combat is very much like Halo, which is a great thing. I think a lot of people are underestimating lost planet.

I'm surprised Mario 128 even made the list and Zelda wasnt higher on the list. SSB didnt even make the cut.... thats kinda sad. Oh well. Lost Planet actually does look fantastic. I just hope RE5 doesnt suck. If 4 was any indication, it wont.

Lost Planet has gameplay vids which look 10 times better IMHO its the only reason I'll buy an xbox 360. It looks like Gears OF War but only better as far as gameplay goes and even the graphics artistically IMO.

The winners of the Game Critics Best of E3 Awards will be announced later this month

2006 Winners
The 37 media outlets voting for the Game Critics Awards: Best of E3 2006 are proud to announce this year's winning games.

Fast Facts: Read winner breakdown by game, publisher and platform here.

Best of Show
Wii
(Nintendo)
It's a good thing Nintendo got the name change of its next console out of the way before E3. With the shock of that announcement mostly over, the company proceeded to become the talk of the show (and possibly a fire hazard for the LA Convention Center) by inviting audiences to get their hands on an impressive lineup of fun and interesting software for the Wii...not to mention that wild controller. People practically
stampeded to try it out--either that or they waited in line for hours. Yet most of them seemingly still came away more excited than ever by Nintendo's weird, inspired vision for how gaming could be different.

Some important questions remain about how the Wii will finally turn out, but by giving E3 show-goers a taste of what playing games on the Wii will be like, Nintendo seemed to gather much more momentum for the system's launch later this year. So despite how many great-looking games were on display at this year's show, the Wii stood out as the single most exciting and remarkable new product at E3 2006.

- Greg Kasavin, Executive Editor, GameSpot

Best Original Game
Spore
(Maxis/Electronic Arts for PC)
With Spore, storied game designer Will Wright is taking “god” games to the Nth power, creating an original game that we expect will devour many hours peeling back its many layers. Wright didn’t stop with his ingenious game parameters that let you nurture your characters from amoebas into interstellar explorers. He takes the game online in a stealth mode that uploads other players' creations so that we can explore the strange new worlds and new civilizations that they create – without the hassle of actually dealing with them. As the guys on the TV ads for Guinness beer say, “Brilliant!”

- Mike Snider, USA Today

Best Hardware/Peripheral
Wii
(Nintendo)
Set aside your potty humor for a sec (Nintendo's Wii wins "Best Hardware"? Too easy...) — this console's legit! While its competitors are improving (bigger, better, prettier) on what's already out there, Nintendo is moving the game console experience in a different direction altogether. The Wii — with its funky motion-sensing and sound-emitting controller, always-online awareness, and retro-friendly virtual console — promises new, totally fresh gameplay experiences that will appeal to the young and old, hardcore and casual, and even the "cool kids" who won't mind looking like idiots while frantically waving a piece of plastic in the air. Can one machine really do and be all that? The three-hour lines to see Nintendo's Wii at E3 seem to indicate, "Hell yes."

-- Dan "Shoe" Hsu, Editor in Chief, Electronic Gaming Monthly

Best Console Game
Gears of War
(Epic Games / Microsoft Games Studio for Xbox 360)
The hype machine's been in motion for a full year on this title, but it took an E3 hands-on multiplayer demo to prove that Gears of War packs as much substance as style. The demo had players take up arms as either the Coalition of Ordered Government (COG) forces or the nasty, subterranean race known as the Locusts. A few of the many features that set GOW ahead of the action pack include a context sensitive cover system for ducking and crouching with the tap of the A button, and an atmospheric, jittery 3rd person camera. In short, a great-looking, unique and fun as hell game sure to be blowing up the Live servers come Q4. Oh, and that chainsaw bayonet? A thing of beauty.

-- Alex Porter, Senior Editor/Producer, MTV Digital

Best PC Game
Spore
(Maxis/Electronic Arts for PC)
When Spore won Best PC Game last year, it was at least partly a vote of faith. With not much gameplay to go on yet, the Game Critics judge were nevertheless blown away by Will Wright's audaciously ambitious game design, which finds you evolving from single-celled organism to interplanetary space traveler. At this year's E3, Spore was much more "real"-- and, guess what? It wins again. Once again, no PC game at the show came close to matching Spore's originality, scope, and breadth of design. As Will Wright personally demo'ed the game--creating a creature, spawning, forming a society, building a city, venturing into space and beyond--you could hear audible gasps from the packed theater, as it became more and more clear that what was once just a cool idea is fast becoming an even cooler reality. Spore was *the* event for PC gamers this E3, and thus an easy call for Best PC Game.

- Jeff Green, Editor in Chief, Computer Gaming World

Best Handheld Game
The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
(Nintendo for Nintendo DS)
The Legend of Zelda franchise is pure gaming gold, and who better than Nintendo knows how to buff up its 24-carat richness. Anybody doubt that Phantom Hourglass would shine for DS? Amid stiff and deserving competition from Nintendo's own DS product line this game cast out all the proper hooks with a rich storyline, impressive cel-shaded graphics goodness, and innovative touchscreen gameplay to haul in E3 honors. Phantom Hourglass will pick up where the GameCube’s Wind Waker left off, and nothing could be finer for Zelda fans. Despite the obvious difference in processing power the graphics were spot on, but creative touchscreen action is what will make Phantom Hourglass shine. Frankly, as far as E3 demos went, this version even matched up well against Twilight Princess for the Wii.

-- Wes Nihei, Editor, GamePro

Best Action Game
Gears of War
(Epic Games / Microsoft Games Studio for Xbox 360)
Who knows what it is about certain games. Is it how they look? Maybe. Is it how they play? That’s a lot of it. Is it the talent behind the project? Possibly. But there’s no doubt about it, some games just manage to magically capture the gamers’ imagination like no others. It’s what we like to call the “it” factor. Halo has “it.” Metal Gear Solid has “it,” and no one can deny Gears of War its rightful place as the “it” game of E3 2006. From the game’s mysterious dilapidated sci-fi aesthetic to its arrestingly intense spin on futuristic shooter gameplay, Gears gives us that twinge in our bellies – that twinge we got when we first stumbled on the Flood in Halo, discovered a secret cave in Zelda or carjacked our first sedan in Grand Theft Auto. It's a rare game that accomplishes this feat in such early form, and for this reason, Gears of War deserves every bit of the attention it's receiving.

-- Francesca Reyes, Editor in Chief, Official Xbox Magazine

Best Action/Adventure Game
Assassin's Creed
(Ubisoft Montreal / UbiSoft for PlayStation 3)
Few games at this year’s E3 screamed “next generation” more than Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed. From the first glimpse of its big gorgeous graphics (the screen shots are true in-game, not “target”) through its Prince of Persia-meets-Thief gameplay, Assassin’s Creed provides an excellent taste of what the PS3 can and will deliver. Ubisoft’s A-team – the Montreal Studio – is creating Assassin’s Creed like the blockbuster it wants to be: an epic Crusades setting with a super-acrobatic hero in an intriguing storyline that has some surprising twists yet to be revealed.

The character design, both main and NPC, is noteworthy. Ubi Montreal has always brought a deep sense of gravity to their main characters (when climbing, jumping and fighting, there’s a real-world “weight”) and our assassin is no different as he traverses buildings and leaps from rooftop to rooftop with believable effort. Ubi is upping the NPC role by making them reactive. When our hero runs through crowds, he has to do it quietly and carefully; too much bumping can upset the wrong people, people who’ll turn on him and slow him down – or worse.

- Tom Byron, Editor in Chief, Official PlayStation Magazine

Best Role Playing Game
Mass Effect
(Bioware / Microsoft Games Studio for Xbox 360)
With no less than three previous titles winning this very category (Baldur's Gate in 1998, Neverwinter Nights in 2000-2002, and Jade Empire in 2004), veteran RPG developer BioWare is at it again in 2006. This year they wowed RPG fans at E3 with Mass Effect, the first in an already-announced trilogy of sci-fi RPGs.

With a deep storyline, incredibly detailed environments, full character customization, and branching conversations that have a profound impact on gameplay, BioWare isn't straying too far from the formula that has made them RPG champions in the past. However, what they are doing differently is refining all of these elements to create what looks to be one of the most elegant and well-designed RPGs we've ever seen.

BioWare is throwing a few new bits into the mix, such as real-time squad-based combat with a tinge of RTS styling as well as creating a world where realistic facial animations and eye movements are important gameplay elements, even if the alien denizens are all digital. Expect a return of the ethical choices that we saw in Knights of the Old Republic and Jade Empire as well, only this time it's not just on a personal level -- it extends to your squad mates, who may leave your party depending on where your morality meter swings.

From what we saw at E3, Mass Effect promises to be more open-ended and in-depth than any BioWare RPG to date, and that's saying a lot.

-- Talmadge Blevins, Editorial Director, IGN.com

Best Racing Game
Excite Truck
(Monster Games / Nintendo for Wii)
Nintendo and Monster Games have traded in dirt bikes for off-road trucks in their first arcade flavored racer for the Wii. As Nintendo strives to get everyone into playing their games, both the hardcore and casual gaming set can easily adapt to Excite Truck's control scheme. Subtracting the nunchuck, everything is easily controlled using the Wii remote's tilt functionality.

While visually not the most stunning game speeding to Nintendo's new console, Excite Truck is all about addictive fast-paced racing, dynamically changing landscapes, turbo boosting, huge air, and colossal crashes - Yosemite Sam mud flaps not included.

-- Billy Berghammer, Managing Editor, Game Informer Online

Best Simulation Game
Spore
(Maxis/Electronic Arts for PC)
It’s just not fair. The other nominees in this category didn’t stand a chance against the most ambitious sim ever conceived. We refer to some games as virtual worlds - Spore makes that term seem hopelessly inadequate. Will Wright and his team at Maxis are creating a virtual universe that’s absolutely staggering in its scope. This year we got to see it in a lot more detail, and we got a much better sense of how it, like the Sims and Sim City before it, employs simple rules and procedures and intuitive tools and interfaces to create an amazing diversity of emergent play experiences.

Spore is shaping up to be a game that you could literally spend a whole lifetime exploring. Intelligent Design is a reality…at Maxis, anyway.

-- Chris Baker, Wired Magazine

Best Sports Game
Wii Sports
(Nintendo for Wii)
If there was a game at E3 that truly demonstrated Nintendo's vision for its new console, it was Wii sports. Simply put, it's a new way to play sports at home – Wii Sports is quick to pick up, super intuitive, and can be enjoyed by anyone. Making use of the Wii remote (and only the Wii remote), Wii Sports encompasses three sports favorites – tennis, golf, and baseball – and for each, it's all about waving the remote to interact with the game. You actually swing the remote to hit a ball...

What could be more natural? It's, like, actually playing sports but without the potential for [serious] bodily injury. Wii is really well suited for simple games, and at E3, this is where Wii was at its best.

Best Fighting Game
Heavenly Sword
(Ninja Theory / Sony for PlayStation 3)
I was so taken aback by Heavenly Sword that I declared this supercharged action-adventure-fighting game my best in show immediately following the demo. More than just a pretty face, Heavenly Sword features a rich storyline told via first rate voice talent, along with a mixture of intense, diverse combat and adventure. Beyond its amazingly detailed and animated leading lady -- whom at this moment I believe to be the ultimate female video game heroine ever created -- the choreography of the arena fighting battle on display at E3 was beyond anything I’ve ever seen. It's like God of War fused with Hong-Kong cinema. And the depth, lighting, and all around character model integrity sets a new standard for real-time visuals.

Best Strategy Game
Supreme Commander
(Gas Powered Games/THQ for PC)
Chris Taylor enjoys his role as the comedian of the game industry. But underneath that facade is a hardcore real-time strategy gamer. With Supreme Commander for THQ, Taylor's Gas Powered Games is out to show that the RTS genre still has much to offer gamers. The vision for Supreme Commander is to create a game that has the scale and scope for huge battles fought by vast armies with futuristic weaponry.

Best Puzzle/Trivia/Parlor Game
Guitar Hero 2
(Harmonix / Red Octane for PlayStation 2)
Six months before the Wii stunned E3 audiences, Guitar Hero proved a well-designed game with a custom controller working [bad pun alert] in concert could instrumentally change things for the better. And like a great rock show, casual observers and hardcore enthusiasts were left wanting more.

The promise of 55 new songs for Guitar Hero 2, and new co-op modes featuring rhythm and bass guitar, all but guarantee more fan-trampling anticipation in our rush to get our hands on this sequel. The working multiplayer version of Van Halen's "You Really Got Me" on the show floor was, in retrospect, an early indicator for judges' votes in this category.

Best Online Multiplayer
Enemy Territory: Quake Wars
(Splash Damage/id/Activision for PC)
Initially released in 2003 as a free, standalone download, Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory was a highly compelling, top-tier multiplayer modification. Now, Enemy Territory: Quake Wars takes all the juicy bits from the first game – tight, objective-based maps, well-balanced classes, multi-mission campaigns, performance upgrades through experience – and adds the joys of vehicular combat, two distinct warring factions, Quake's futuristic setting, and the ability to drop assets directly onto the battlefield. And powered by an improved Quake IV engine, it's a phenomenal visual treat. Easy to jump into, but extremely deep, Quake Wars was a massive hit on the E3 show floor and promises to be just as successful when the war begins online later this year.
