Hi!

I want to compare the 1994 Spider-Man cartoon series with the 2003 Spider-Man cartoon series.

So, which one do you like the best:

-1994 cartoon Spider-Man or 2003 cartoon Spider-Man?

-1994 cartoon Mary-Jane Watson or 2003 cartoon Mary-Jane Watson?

-1994 cartoon Harry Osborn or 2003 cartoon Harry Osborn?

-1994 cartoon J. Jonah Jameson or 2003 cartoon J Jonah Jameson?

-1994 cartoon Electro or 2003 cartoon Electro?

-1994 cartoon Silver Sable or 2003 cartoon Silver Sable?

-1994 cartoon Kingpin or 2003 cartoon Kingpin?

-1994 cartoon Kraven the Hunter or 2003 cartoon Kraven the Hunter?

-1994 cartoon Lizard or 2003 cartoon Lizard?

What do you think?

Spider-Man the Animated Series vs MTV Spider-Man?

Hmmm;

Spider-Man the Animated Series wins in every respective category, no contest.

Yep.

Aside from Electro. I'd rather he was a geeky teenage that got his powers by accident (at least that was like in the comics), rather than being the Red Skull's son and getting his powers through a "doomsday device".

Spider-man and his Amazing Friends is the best.
Or Spider-man 1981 series.

MTV's Spidey was pure and utter CRAP. Th' predecessors take it all.

The 60's cartoon!!!......that heavy orchestrated riff while Spidey's hunting down the burglar in the warehouse still makes the hair on my neck stand at attention!!!!....

....but picking from the 2 candidates here....1994 in a landslide victory

The characterizations in the 90's were much better. The only real advantages the 2003 version had were the fact that Spidey actually punched people from time to time & we didn't hear "spider-sense going crazy!" incessantly.

The only problem I really had w/the 1994 series was that it was so watered-down; Morbius can't use his fangs, Blade can't use his sword, Punisher can't use his guns, Scorpion can't use his stinger, & they had to totally re-write Carnage's powers; what's the use in hvaing them there if they can't do what they do in the comics? Then there was the laser guns, Kingpin being tied into everything & the last 2 seasons were just a total waste.

You got a point there :(

I didn't watch either one while they were on the air, so I have no nostalgic attachment to one or the other. I bought them both on DVD and enjoyed them both... however, I have watched the NEW Animated series several times.

The animation is what I like about the 2nd over the first. I love the way Peter is portrayed and the way Spidey moves... probably the most "realistic" animated rendition of his powers ever made, and I just love watching him be Spider-Man. :spidey:

The 1994 Animated Series was one of the few times a medium outside comics really got Spider-Man right. The only real missteps in the series IMO were the whole Morbius/Blade plot, Felicia Hardy becoming the Black Cat and ending up as Morbius boyfriend, MJ as a Hydro-Man/Clone, and that whole Secret Wars/Interdimensional travel thing they had going on. The MTV Spider-Man had better animation but they really didn't explore much of the traditional trappings of Spidey as they should've.

As to your questions (answers in bold):

-1994 cartoon Spider-Man or 2003 cartoon Spider-Man--although Neil Patrick Harris in the 2003 cartoon had Peter down pretty darn good.

-1994 cartoon Mary-Jane Watson or 2003 cartoon Mary-Jane Watson--even though the 94 MJ had those ugly cowboy boots, at least she WAS MJ.

-1994 cartoon Harry Osborn or 2003 cartoon Harry Osborn--although when Harry became the second Green Goblin, that was fine by me.

-1994 cartoon J. Jonah Jameson or 2003 cartoon J Jonah Jameson--no contest there.

-1994 cartoon Electro or 2003 cartoon Electro--In choosing the lesser of two evils, I'd rather have him be a misunderstood kid than the son of the Red Skull

-1994 cartoon Silver Sable or 2003 cartoon Silver Sable--I don't know if the 1994 series had a Silver Sable.

-1994 cartoon Kingpin or 2003 cartoon Kingpin--although the 2003 cartoon Kingpin was a nice tie-in to the Daredevil movie.

-1994 cartoon Kraven the Hunter or 2003 cartoon Kraven the Hunter

-1994 cartoon Lizard or 2003 cartoon Lizard--but the 2003 cartoon Lizard was much better animated and looked more vicious.

Choices in bold:

-1994 cartoon Spider-Man or 2003 cartoon Spider-Man?
No contest.

-1994 cartoon Mary-Jane Watson or 2003 cartoon Mary-Jane Watson?

-1994 cartoon Harry Osborn or 2003 cartoon Harry Osborn?

-1994 cartoon J. Jonah Jameson or 2003 cartoon J Jonah Jameson?
No contest in the least. What I don't get is why they brought Ed Asner back but had him play someone other than Jameson while the guy they did get for that part sucked.

-1994 cartoon Electro or 2003 cartoon Electro?
I don't know. They were both bastardizations, and I'm torn on the '94 version. He damn sure shouldn't be the son of the Red Skull, but at least that one had some balls on him.

-1994 cartoon Silver Sable or 2003 cartoon Silver Sable?
I don't remember much about the '94 Silver Sable, but I do remember the '03 one being a fine piece o' mercenary tail.

-1994 cartoon Kingpin or 2003 cartoon Kingpin?

-1994 cartoon Kraven the Hunter or 2003 cartoon Kraven the Hunter?
They both sucked, but even though they made '94 cartoon Kraven a "good guy," he at least kept some character traits from the real deal.

-1994 cartoon Lizard or 2003 cartoon Lizard?

I actually liked the 2003 one. The comedy spidey used was a lot more like the comics, and it wasnt childish. when they wanted violence, they got it. the 94 series was amazing, but it was WAY too childish when it came to violence.

TwilightPro101
04-19-2006, 11:01 PM
The level of violence in that particular regard was enforced by the network and they had to work around it more creatively, while BatmanTAS had full on violence. That was something many of the writers had issue with on the show, but it was successful as far as FOX Kids was concerned.

94 for all questions. The only good thing about 2003 was the Spider-Man design, the other characters, stories etc were awful

To be fair i loved the 1994 cartoon show i was about 8 when it was on so that was a show i couldnt wait to see when i got home from school lol.

-1994 cartoon Spider-Man - lol so coool

-1994 cartoon Mary-Jane Watson - 2003 looks so skinny.

-2003 cartoon Harry Osborn - Forgot how 1994 cartoon looked like

-1994 cartoon J. Jonah Jameson - No doubt hands down

-2003 cartoon Electro - Don't even remember electro in that show

-1994 cartoon Silver Sable or 2003 cartoon Silver Sable? - hmm to me i say it a tie

-1994 cartoon Kingpin - Love the way this man worked all his methods and badguy connections in the 1994 series

-1994 cartoon Kraven the Hunter - 2003 ew

-1994 cartoon Lizard - 2003 was not that bad but he was kind of psycho, same thing as 1994, but he helped spiderman in and out of situations

1994 cartoon Spider-Man or 2003 cartoon Spider-Man?

1994. 2003 wasn't given the same amount of time to possibly get good.

1994 cartoon Mary-Jane Watson or 2003 cartoon Mary-Jane Watson?

2003. 1994 MJ was dressed really badly and her voice could get kind of annoying sometimes.

1994 cartoon Harry Osborn or 2003 cartoon Harry Osborn?
1994. 2003 seemed too jockish.

1994 cartoon J. Jonah Jameson or 2003 cartoon J Jonah Jameson?
1994. JJJ was classic in that cartoon. How everyone always imagined JJJ I bet.

1994 cartoon Electro or 2003 cartoon Electro?
I'm going to say 2003 because the ep was kind of interesting, and I don't remember 1994 electro.

1994 cartoon Silver Sable or 2003 cartoon Silver Sable?
Don't remember either one.

1994 cartoon Kingpin or 2003 cartoon Kingpin?
1994.

1994 cartoon Kraven the Hunter or 2003 cartoon Kraven the Hunter?
1994.

1994 cartoon Lizard or 2003 cartoon Lizard?
The Lizard episode of the 2003 series was good, the 1994 one was better.

So mainly I liked 2003 MJ more than 1994's, because she was far less annoying.
