just about every character who was in both cartoons was by far better in the original Animated Series. Jubilee, Wolverine, Storm, Cyclops... everyone.
Rogue from Evolution was pretty cool, though.

Hi!
I want to compare the 1992 X-Men cartoon series to the "X-Men: Evolution" cartoon series.
So, which one do you like the best:
-1992 Cyclops or Evolution Cyclops?
1992 Cyclops. Simply the better version. Much more of a leader, and much more in the sullen anger department.
-1992 Jean Grey or Evolution Jean Grey?
Evolution Jean. She may not have become Phoenix aside from in Xavier's glimpse into the future, but she was a vastly superior Jean in my opinion. Annoying at times, definately, but still preferably to the pathetic example in TAS.
-1992 Professor X or Evolution Professor X?
Evolution by an absolute mile. 1992 Xavier had the most irritating voice known to man. It wasn't very Xavier. He was a bloody whiner too.
-1992 Apocalypse or Evolution Apocalypse?
1992 version. I didn't really like what they did with Evolution Apocalypse. He didn't fit into the plot so well.
-1992 Magneto or Evolution Magneto?
I'm gonna call a tie on this one. I loved both versions of Magneto.
-1992 Rogue or Evolution Rogue?
Again, a tie. TAS has Ms Marvel Rogue, but the Evolution had a pretty kick ass Rogue too. She was just kick ass in a different way.
-1992 Nightcrawler or Evolution Nightcrawler?
Evolution, if only because TAS Nightcrawler didn't get a lot of development.
-1992 Storm or Evolution Storm?
TAS. Evolution Storm kind of got swept to the side in favour of the younger members.
-1992 Toad or Evolution Toad?
Evolution. Much more in the way of development.
-1992 Quicksilver or Evolution Quicksilver?
Evolution. He was a bloody pest. I didn't like the whole goody-goody Quicksilver of TAS. Boring.
-1992 Blob or Evolution Blob?
Evolution got much more development.
-1992 Pyro or Evolution Pyro?
Evolution, if only for the scene where he watched Magneto's 'death' over and over whilst chuckling to himself. His power displays where generally much more impressive too.
-1992 Mystique or EVolution Mystique?
Evolution. She was brilliantly devious, especially when she sought revenge on Scott.
-1992 Wolverine or Evolution Wolverine?
Evolution. TAS Wolverine annoyed the hell out of me with his ever-boring Jean lust.
-1992 Sabretooth or Evolution Sabretooth?
TAS. He was that bit more psychotic.
-1992 Cody or Evolution Cody?
TAS. Evo didn't get much of a look in.
-1992 Forge or EVolution Forge?
TAS
-1992 Juggernaut or Evolution Juggernaut?
Evolution. I hate the whole mystic jem thing, and TAS dealt with it in too much detail.
-1992 Avalanche or Evolution Avalanche?
Evolution by a vast, vast amount. TAS Avalanche was nothing. Evolution Avalanche was truly a character.
-1992 Iceman or Evolution Iceman?
TAS
-1992 Cannonball or Evolution Cannonball?
Evolution. The TAS Cannonball was sickening.
-1992 Jubilee or Evolution Jubilee?
TAS. She was obviously much more in the forefront of that series.
-1992 Beast or Evolution Beast?
Personally I prefer Evolution Beast. Nicer design.
-1992 Angel or Evolution Angel?
Evolution
-1992 Captain America or Evolution Captain America?
TAS
-1992 Scarlet Witch or Evolution Scarlet Witch?
Evolution Wanda was vastly superior. TAS Wanda was weak and pathetic. Evolution Wanda was much closer to the all powerful version from the comics.
-1992 Gambit or Evolution Gambit?
Evolution. Much cooler.
-1992 Colossus or Evolution Colossus?
Evolution had a more interesting story.
-1992 Callisto or Evolution Callisto?
TAS
-1992 Omega Red or Evolution Omega Red?
TAS
-1992 Moira MacTaggart or Evolution Moira MacTaggart?
TAS
Overall, whilst I enjoyed both series, I much prefered Evolution.

TAS mostly. The art was much better and the characters seemed more like themselves. Evo is closer to movie verse. The badguys in the TAS could have been better, they seemed to get their asses kicked every time. Also the plots in Evo made much less sense to me. And since they translated this one in Romanian (3 people doing 20 characters) i could never really get into it.

X-Men: TAS doesn't even come CLOSE to Batman: TAS, and yes, I am more an X-Fan than a Batman fan. Heck, I don't consider myself a fan of Batman's, but I know a damn good cartoon when I see one. X-Men's in hindsight was good, but nowhere NEAR good enough to be "Best ever".

To each his own my friend. X-men TAS did such a good job of getting the feel of the comics...it felt like I was watching the comic page for page for the most part. Other cartoons have tried to do that, and the movies as well, but none have succeeded to the extent X-men TAS did. I am a hardcore comic book x-men fan, and TAS came closest to reproducing what was in the comics, and that's why I like it so much. You don't have to like anything you don't want to, but in my opinion, X-men TAS beats every other cartoon into the ground (Spider-man TAS comes close)

Hmm, I think they were different beasts.
TAS stayed faithful to the comics.
Evolution took more of a movie approach, which I prefered. The comics are great, but the cartoons shouldn't be carbon copies.

Overall I liked Evo better, I know thats heresy but I liked most of the characters a lot more. Evolution Cyclops, Jean, Nightcrawler, Rogue, Professor and Mystique are vastly superior in my opinion. And I hated Jubilee in TAS. The only character I liked better in TAS was Wolverine.

TAS was fun when I was younger, but I don't find it nearly as entertaining now that I've grown up. I think TAS was a great Saturday morning cartoon and all, but I think Evo is a lot more relevant today. I also liked the fresh perspective Evo brought by doing things differently.
Evolution had superior character development. An all around better voice cast. Original and good stories. Better animation. And more time was put into it.
Evolutions biggest flaw was that it started out very shakey. By the second season, it really came into its own and it was awesome.
TAS just had one flaw too many for my liking.

Well, carbon-copies of the comics aren't necessarily a good thing. Yes, it took some liberties, but not nearly enough. When you add to that that it had animation quality straight out of the early 1980s and some seriously awful stuff (for instance, Storm - every single line she ever had in this show was cringe-worthy and the delivery was even worse).
I rarely ever watched Evo, by the time it came on I was more interested in sleeping in on Saturday mornings than watching cartoons, but I definitely give it credit for boldly going where no comicbook-based cartoon has ever gone before - new territory.
Personally, I liked Evolution wayyyy better.
I'm biased since I grew up with TAS.I still saw Evo as corny and alot of the characters were annoying as hell.

I still love TAS more than Evo!! It was the first time comic fans go to see their favorite characters come to life. The characters were all at their right ages, and the storylines were amazing. Evolution seemed like the movie version as a cartoon. I didn't like the characters so young and in high school, because we had to watch them develop into their powers for so long while Storm and Wolverine were in the background a lot!!! Cyclops wasn't that good of a leader as he was in TAS. The best thing I liked about Evolution was Scarlet Witch!!! TAS had more heart and better episodes than Evolution. Evolution only had better animation and character development!!
Out of 4 seasons, Evolution had 2 1/2 great ones. The show ended with a huge bang.
The only thing that it has in common with the movies is that it is different than the comics. Thats all.
I think people give TAS way too much credit. Sure it was the first X-Men cartoon series, but that doesn't mean it is as amazing as you guys say it is. Most of you were too young to notice all the flaws it had, anyway.

Definately not. Going back and watching TAS now, Evolution has the superior animation and story telling. The only thing TAS has is that it's a lot more faithful to the comics.
Personally, I didn't mind even the earlier seasons of Evolution. Sure, they were slow, but the fact the characters had all been established so well early on with the less exciting stories is what allowed them to come into their own in the later seasons for the bigger stories.

Evo had weaker stories. Also Storm and Wolverine lacked sufficient character development.Spyke was a big mistake, and the early storylines seemed to be targeted at 8 year olds who wouldnt notice the inconsistencies, and lack of sufficient resolution. The show got better once they wer outed though.

Storms character in Evolution was no different than in TAS. In each show she had only 1 or 2 story lines devoted to her. As for Wolverine, well the fact that he wasn't a major player can be seen as a good thing to some. More focus on other characters than on Wolverine all the time. Something TAS had a habbit of doing.
I totally dissagree about Evo having weaker stories. The storylines were all well developed and actually made sence. Best of all, they were charcter driven. TAS tryed to cram entire comic arcs into 3 episodes at a time.

No,Storm rarely got play in Evolution. At best she showed up to complain about Evan.Either that or she'd pop up and make a wind or something.Wolverine despite being underdeveloped still had an obligatory episode devoted to him each season, which was usually unwatchable.

But that was done by reason. Xavier, Beast, Storm and Logan were the teachers, while the rest of the cast were the students. Their stories weren't as important as that of Cyclops, Jean and Rogue.
I myself enjoyed all of Logans storylines in Evolution. From his rivalry with Sabretooth, to his history with Captain America. Even when X-23 was introduced. It was a lot less unwatchable then TAS, what with it's shaddy animation and terrible voice acting.

The voice acting on TAS was anything but fine. Storms voice was just terrible, and the lines they made her say didn't help it. Jean sounded like an over dramatic soap opera actress. Xaviers voice was just whiney. Even characters like Gambit and Cyclops, who I thought had pretty decent voices, still had bad voice acting. The only good voice in that whole show was Beast.

TAS was ok but like Cyke said, when I watch the Batman Animated series, it just has much less moments where I'm cringing. The dialouge was the worst part...it just was handled really badly most of the time. Especially storm as Cyke noted...aghh, still loved it though, but I'd have to say BAS was the best Animated series I've seen out there. If you watch it, it still holds up today. Heck it'll always hold up, they just had great voice acting in that. I mean, can you get any more perfect then Hammil as the Joker? Or Conroy as Bats? When I watch reruns of the old x-men...I can definatley tell it's older.

ditto. I loved Beasts voice, it just seemed perfect. And Wolverine's seemed to suit him, though they made him more like the 70's wolverine in that show. He was always the guy that would rush into a fight and get swatted away, then Cyclops would walk in ala superman style and just blast away the badguy, that always annoyed me.

I liked the voices in TAS. Except for Storm. Wolverine, Beast and Rogue were really well done. Wolverine sounded like he had cancer in his troath but hs voice was bad ass. I just love Rogue's voice. Gambit's voice was smooth as hell but sometimes he sounded like retard. I have never heard him refer to himself in the 3rd person in the comics so why would he do that in the cartoon?

TAS just had one flaw too many for my liking.
I agree. I grew up on TAS, and it will always have a special place in my heart, but the dialogue, acting, and animation quality on that show sucked. Just to be clear: TAS had better character designs and art, but the way the characters moved was choppy and poor compared to the smoother animation of Evolution. You can't even blame it on the time period it was animated-- Batman TAS and Disney's Gargoyles blew it out of the water.
And I dare anyone here to listen to Storm and Xavier from TAS talk for more than 10 minutes without cringing. Storm had the most overblown, windbaggish dialogue ever written, and Xavier was just a whinny little screamer. Evolution's Xavier had a Stewart-esque voice that could turn a straight man gay.
:O Woo! I do believe I've got the vapors! :O
Evolution also put more effort into its characters. TAS had a great epic feel that threw you into the stories, but the characters were just pale shells compared to Evolution. Any cartoon that can make Rogue into a kickass character without Ms. Marvel's powers gets an A-grade in my book.

I wouldn't go that far Herr. I love TAS too, but I think only adults that would have enjoyed TAS were ones that like X-men. I mean, some of the dialouge in TAS was just...bad. it makes me cringe. Stuff that I didn't notice as a kid that I do now. (Storm mostly, Xavier never bothered me as much, but he did seem to scream a lot) I never really watched evolution, so I can't if it was better, but I didn't think TAS was that great.
The best animated series I've seen is probably BTAS, and I'll always like the spider-man (90's) series, even though that has some cringeworthy dialouge too.

Evolution Jean was vastly superior. She could stop speeding trains, blast through walls and contain entire explosions with her mind, and eventually, with the help of cerebro, she could even take on Xavier.

I, too, consider the Batman Animated Series to be of higher quality than the X-Men series, although reluctantly so, since there is a deliberate difference in tone and automatically a large disparity between a show about one vigilante and a show about a team of superheroes.
Regardless, though I haven't seen every episode of 'X-Men: Evolution,' when I did watch it I saw very little but dialogue that made me cringe. Even if each line spoken wasn't ridiculous in itself, when I look at who was speaking and what they were speaking about, I was disgusted. Cyclops, Jean Grey, and Nightcrawler are significantly younger than Storm? Cyclops being a snot-nose teenager while other people act as Xavier's lieutenants? Storm having a skater-boy nephew for no reason whatsoever? That wasn't the X-Men.
I'll gladly put up with TAS Storm's melodramatic monologues and Xavier's occasional screeching if it means the rest of the team actually look and act like X-Men.
Another huge flaw in TAS was having Nightcrawler only as a two-time guest star instead of a regular, and having him be a solemn, preachy monk instead of a swashbuckling, fun-loving gallant. Still, he wasn't a flaming embarrassment like the one from 'Evolution.' I'm simply not interested in what teeny-bopper versions of the X-Men would look like.
Also, whoever said that 'Evolution' Xavier was channelling Patrick Stewart obviously wasn't paying attention. He's channelling Sean Connery.
:wolverine
They were, in a sense, X-Men in training. Xavier, Storm, Beast, and Logan were there teachers. But even still, Cyclops was always the leader of the team, and far from a 'snot-nosed teen'.
In fact, the series in itself focused mainly on Scott, Jean and Rogue. But it still took the liberties to focus on all the other characters as well, giving them a significant amount of development. A lot more than TAS ever did.
I think the problem that most people had with Evolution was that it was nothing like the comic books. It was an entirely different universe, much like Ultimate. Characters were different, along with their personalities. Granted, some of these personas didn't work too well, like Nightcrawler, Storm and Beast. But other characters like Rogue, Jean, Mystique, and the rest of the Brotherhood for that matter, were just plain bad ass, and characterized exceptionally well.

A TV show pulled you out of the comics? Not the bad writing? :p
TAS definitely got me into X-Men as a whole. It introduced most people to the X-Men world. That, I think, is the reason why so many people hold it up on such a high pedestal that it in no way deserves to be on.
But, when it comes down to the tone/style/genre of both shows, they can't be compared because they are both vastly different. It just goes on what your personal taste is.
But, when you judge the shows on animation, voice acting, and development, Evolution wins.

Well obviously it was the bad writing that pulled me out of the comics!
:o
The bad TV show just made me give up hope of any chance I could watch those same characters translated properly in a different medium. Again, that is.
Basically, shows like 'Evolution' and the MTV Spider-Man show made it easier for me to back away from Marvel Comics, since the bad storytelling seems to spread throughout all Marvel properties and media. No point in hanging on when the whole Marvel culture is going to crap.
I will never agree that 'Evolution' wins in each of those categories. I'm not really sure what you mean by "devlopment," actually. In any case, even if the animation of 'Evolution' flowed more smoothly, the basic character models were crap to begin with.

I agree. I grew up on TAS, and it will always have a special place in my heart, but the dialogue, acting, and animation quality on that show sucked. Just to be clear: TAS had better character designs and art, but the way the characters moved was choppy and poor compared to the smoother animation of Evolution. Sounds like you don't understand at all why I disliked the show.
Do I dislike the changes? Well, let's see... the real X-Men used to be an entertaining and intelligent fictional saga, and 'X-Men: Evolution' presented it as feckless children who say and do embarrasingly stupid things for cheap laughs. Yeah, I suppose I do have a problem with the fact that they changed stuff.
Only a simpleton would think that the changes don't define the cartoon itself. When you make a watered-down, kid-ified version of something that has been around for years, it doesn't get to stand on its own, it gets compared to its betters. If this show was the first incarnation ever of the franchise known as 'X-Men,' I'd never have gotten into it. It's got more character development than 'Power Rangers' (which is really saying a lot, isn't it?) and that's the most complimentary thing I can say about it.
Don't debase yourself by giving me the completely worthless, unoriginal platitude that "changes have to be made," or that cartoons aren't comics. They had a good cartoon already, and they let it get *****ty toward the end and then let some half-assed teeny-bopper version-- that's obviously even more for the sole purpose of selling toys than the original-- take it's place. They could have continued that show instead, with the resolution to keep it high-quality, but that wasn't catchy enough for the youngsters, and mature storytelling is sooo ten to fifteen years ago.

Personally, one of the reasons I prefer Evolution is because it's more grounded. We don't have any of the inter-galactic nonsense. Ridiculous alien creatures and the like. We have characters that could be real, in place of the TAS characters which avoided grounding the characters to the extent it became to difficult to relate to them.

I'm personally not a huge fan of the Shi'ar episodes of the real X-Men series, either. However, those were actual stories, and whether or not they took themselves too seriously, at least that show took itself seriously at all.
They only had one character who was consistently childish (we'll let Morph slide, or rather serve as an example that made-for-TV characters like Morph and Spyke are a bad idea), and at least Jubilee was the exception, not the rule like in 'Evolution.' The last thing I wanted to see in place of a real X-Men show was a whole team of Jubilees, with a useless Storm and her idiot nephew thrown in. Wolverine was the only character aside from Xavier that truly acted like himself, and he had authority over Cyclops. That ruins the entire dynamic between those characters, just like it ruins the entire team to have the quintessential leader be a student under other X-Men.
I don't read or watch superpowered fictional characters for their being "grounded." It wasn't until I came to the Superhero Hype that I realized anybody expected hyper-"realistic" stories from superhero fiction. I'm still having trouble believing it.

I think each cartoon had their strenghts and weaknesses. Animation of characters and demonstration of powers, music and voice acting i think are much better over any of the 1992 series. Although it did have a kick arse intro.
Animation in TAS was usually slightly off and when powers were used, people would well....glow. I know that they had limitations back then, but i much prefer the magnetic hum and magneto theme from evo to the gold glowing circles to TAS
TAS had some better storylines tying in with the comic and had lots of cool cameos which were always fun to see. I think EVO had a bigger cast and its secondary characters were quite well developed over the run. You may have only seen them little bits at the time but it was quite frequent where TAS episodes they perhaps only got one or two good moments.
I can watch TAS now but cringe at some of the dialogue (storm) and the screams that Jean, Rogue or Xavier use to produce are horrible, whereas Evolution seems a lot more grounded and better overall IMO. Towards the end of season 2, it really picked up and Mystique, Magneto, Rogue, Jean and Cylcops became great characters.
I say EVO wins but TAS is a classic and is what got me interested in X-Men, so something obviously worked with that cartoon, I like them both in their own right :)
Although I rather like Evo as a whole, I will say that the first two seasons were a little too cheesey. The first season and a half of Evolution focused on getting to know the characters and who they are and what they do. Because of that, there wasn't any really good story lines, and a lot of it was teenage cheese.
I understand that.
However, once the show got into its own, and knew exactly what it was it was doing with these characters it was amazing. I loved Xaviers relationship with Magneto. Even more so, the mutant relationship with the rest of the world (once they were discovered at the end of season 2).
Rogue and Nightcrawler had a decent relationship, especially when it came to their storyline with Mystique. I also enjoyed Jeans relationship with Xavier. IMO, they were the closest among all the X-Men.
Ascension Part 1 and 2 are probably my all time favorite Evolution episodes, and X-Men episodes in general. I suggest any non-fan watch it.

Storm had a skateboarding newphew? Wow...that's just weird. I didn't see many episodes of evolution, so I can't really comment on it's quality. One of the only episodes I saw was a Wolverine one, which was okay, but I didn't like the voice too much. I mean it was okay, but one thing I did like about the original cartoon was Wolverine's voice, it's the one I always imagine when reading comics. The only thing I didn't like about Wolverine in the animated series was that it always seemed like he would charge heedlessly into battle and get swatted away, and the yellow costume. (The brown has always been my favorite). It seemed like they were going off the early 70's Wolverine, who basically always charged into battle and got knocked out easily. I would have much preferred the more badass early 80's wolverine.

Yeah, she had a skateboarding nephew. His name was Spyke, and he basically had the powers of Marrow, but without the pain or constant, involuntary ugliness. He was an embarrassment and I was the most ashamed to watch when he was onscreen. Hell, at least Morph was funny.
One thing I can say for the childish show called 'X-Men: Evolution' is that they portrayed Wolverine correctly for the most part. I don't consider it a plus or a minus that they showed Wolverine more as a mentor type (which he did become in the 80's), but I can say they did well with that.
Too bad he couldn't interact with the other characters properly since most of them were kids, which in particular precluded him from arguing with Scott over leader-type decisions or sparring for beer with Nightcrawler. I realize the latter, and the general trend of those two being good friends, wasn't featured in the earlier Animated Series, either, which I already mentioned was a failing.

I'll admit Spyke was a holy mess of a character who should have never seen the light of day, but Storm was far from useless. If anything, she was two useful. They had to keep her out of the way because she could take on most battles in place of the rest of the younger, more inexperienced time.
I can recall several episodes in which Storm's power was projected, notably in each of the finales. In the season one finale, she sparred with martial arts expert Mystique and came out on top. For season two, though initially being taken out by a sentinel, she rose and showed off her power in great style. In season three she took on the stone giants almost single handed as the rest of the team fell around her, and in the season four finale she was nothing short of amazing, though she was under the control of Apocalypse who heightened everyone's powers.
Wolverine was the only character aside from Xavier that truly acted like himself, and he had authority over Cyclops. That ruins the entire dynamic between those characters, just like it ruins the entire team to have the quintessential leader be a student under other X-Men.
Maybe early on, but not so much later. I remember in season three, when the X-Men were being hunted, Wolverine wanted to go out and fight, whilst Cyclops didn't want confrontation with the military. Cyclops command had the sway over the rest of the team, not Wolverine's.

Yeah, Evolution focused way too much on the teen drama. Like that episode where Rogue went insane, started manifesting older absorbed powers, and took on the entire X-Men team on her own. Or the episode where they introduced Legion. Or the time we were led to believe Rogue killed Mystique (not revealing Mystique was alive until 7 episodes later)? And dear God, there was nothing BUT teen drama in that two-part episode where Magneto assembled the Alcolytes and disowned the Brotherhood, the Brotherhood had to team up with the X-Men to take on the Alcolytes, the government released the Sentinels for the first time during the Brotherhood/X-Men/Alcolyte battle, and Scarlet Witch killed Magneto (although he was revealed to be alive some episodes later, in typical Magneto fashion.)

The only teen drama they dealt with was Rogue's crush on Cyclops, and the latters relationship with Jean.
and I didnt care much for the Legion episode.MUch weaker then it should have been.
The teen drama on Evolution was no different than the drama featured in the books.
Rogue feeling uncomfortable with her powers and not being able to touch anyone. She then developed feeling for the team leader, which she knew she couldn't have because of his feeling for Jean. Although, I like Rogue and Cyclops as a couple a lot more than Scott and Jean. The episode when she joined the X-Men showed the great chemistry that she had with Scott.
The only thing that annoyed me was the Scott/Jean/Duncan nonsense. But then again, Scott and Jean have always had similar drama in the comic books that was just as annoying.
Then there was Nightcrawler and his issues with his outward appearance, and having to go outside in the real world with an image inducer built to hide his mutantcy. Then he fell for that girl, but feared how she would react to knowing that he was a mutant, and that he was blue. But in the end, she didn't even mind (awww :p).

In Evolution, she basically tried to usurp Magneto's power until he gave her the boot. She was running the Brotherhood, posing as the principal of the high school, posing as Professor X and running the X-Men, and posing as a human student to get close to Rogue. And at one point destroying the X-Mansion,nearly killing all of the New Mutants. She played everyone.I think with some better stories, and plot development the show wouldve been excellent. As it is,while Evolution had some great characterizations like Mystique,it also had some horrible renditions(i.e. Omega Red,Magneto, the Brotherhood itself) and some shallow, oversimplified storylines. They shouldve gotten ballsy instead watering things down for the kiddies.
Well, it was a *kids* show. TAS did it's own share of watering.

They didn't water much down.Aside from Jean not killing Asparagus people or dieing, and not using the name "Hellfire Club".:o:confused:
Besides, they just used was once the intended ending for the Phoenix Saga.
It could have been better. But, it is still my favorite part of TAS.

I only liked the second half. The M'Kraan Crystal stuff wasn't all that engaging.
Everything from The Dark Phoenix and beyond was good stuff. I don't like the Crystal stuff myself. But, as a Jean fan, I watch what little bit they give me. :D

I can never look past the fact that the X-Men lived at an exclusive private school and yet attended a public high school at the same time. And the fact that the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants went to the same high school and traded barbs in the hallways with the X-Men. And the fact that Evo!Mystique was a high school principal instead of a government official who worked at the Pentagon. And almost everything I ever heard Evo!Nightcrawler say.
That's too childish for me to ever consider it anything close to as good as TAS from the 90's. I haven't even seen that degree of degradation on 'The Batman.' Granted, I only saw a few episodes of that show as well, so it could have dumbed down some in my viewing absence.

How was TAS anymore intelligent than Evo? Yea, the first 2 seasons of Evo have a lot of high school stuff going on. Its a show for kids, but so was TAS. And Evo handled the characters far more intelligently, especially Rogue, Cyclops, Jean and Xavier, all of whom are much worse in TAS. Even Gambit became tolerable instead of Guy-Who-Makes-Annoying-Comments-In-Bad-Accent. Spyke was kind of annoying but no more so than Jubilee.
Just because its changed and takes place among teenagers doesn't mean its "watered down". Is Smallville watered down Superman? Evo is not as good as Smallville, but I certainly think its better than TAS because it tells good stories with superior characterization.
:wolverine
/shrug whatever, dude. I'm old enough to have watched TAS while growing up and I still prefer Evo.

Loved the scenes toward the end of this episode. It really helped to define Mystique's character. How manipulative and out for revenge she really was. I loved Jean's rescue too, how she crushed Mystique up against a wall with her telekinesis.

One of my favaourite episodes. TAS Jean was pathetic when not aided by a cosmic entity. In Evolution Jean's was powerful in her own right as her powers developed. She would have been astounding as Phoenix.

i remember the producers saying somewhere that if they got a season 5 of evolution, they would have tried to tackle some of the unresolved stories from season 4, which makes sense why they did them, to get another season and they were also looking at a phoenix arc.
I duno whether they would have done Dark Phoenix but im pretty sure they would have done something similar to phoenix. I mean the thing i liked about Jean the most and all the characters of EVO is how there powers grew over the seasons. In season one she stuggled to lift a chair, season 2 she has a major power surge, season 3, in Blind Alley, her hair is shaped like a bird, season 4, she stops a train, controls an explosion, lucas said she was more powerful then your average mutant and the finale with the pyschic battle with xavier, her shield changed to a bird like shape with wings, it was deffinatly hinting at it
plus they contemplated having them older in season 5.
Her green shield in the finale was pretty nifty.

She didn't struggle to lift a chair as said above. Even in an early episode she helped stop a falling building with her telekinesis until Kitty could phase them through the rubble.
That said, generally, in season one she was a lot weaker than later seasons. Her evolution was great to see.

I have to say, I enjoyed Evolution much more than TAS. It's a pity that they stopped and teased us with the whole Dark Phoenix saga in the final episode. It would've made a great story with the new animation designs and today's technology.

Either
A) You have a crappy internet service provider
B) Your mom doesn't know what she's talking about
or
C) Your mom lied to you so you'll spend less time on the internet.
Most internet services charge a regular monthly fee. The only way you'll spend more money with more time on the 'net is if you have a dial-up connection that calls a long distance connection number. If that's the case, you need to switch to a provider with more connection numbers.
