Okay, it's not official that Mr. Sinister is in X3, but there have been a number of rumors about his appearance--SO just in case he makes a cameo somewhere in the movie I thought I'd start a thread...
How do you think he will be portrayed (if at all)? Will we see him in human Dr. Essex form and/or as Mr. Sinister? Who would be a good choice to play him? (I vote for Ralph Fiennes, esp. since he worked with Brett Ratner in "Red Dragon" and is British.) What will his relationship with Apocalypse be? What does it all mean for X4, as well as for Cyclops, Phoenix, Cable, etc.

If Sinister indeed makes an appearance in X3, I'm not too sad if Cyclops dies, that's pretty much a shoe in for future resurrection. Not to mention 150% Gambit gaurantee if theirs a 4th.

I think it would be awesome and could be true. I don't think he'll be Sinister in this one and I don't think they'll bring in Apocalypse.

yeah walken wont be sinsiter you can't get a sicilian to play a brit...finness is a solid choice, although it would suprise me much if he agrees upon doing a cameo because there is a "chance there will be an x4" my guess is, it is an unkown british actor looking for a break, much like clive owen was awhile ago and now he's big, u needs to be suave, very intellegent, and of corse, a completley insane experimentalist, yes, yes i do want him to inkle at creating cable from scott and rachel summers, and maybe even have future cable in a x4 and his story could be the logan story of the first two movies

If Sinister was included as Dr. Essex before he became Mr. Sinister they would have to change his origin quite a bit. Though they have done that with more than a few characters already.
If this does happen then how would you see him becoming Mr. Sinister? I could see it working if he was a lab scientist as said in the rumours because it could be explained that he was fascinated by the mutant condition working there and with Angel and his obsession would tie in nicely with Archangel.
As for possible actors, I don't really want to see a known face. Though I like some of the suggestions, I just don't see them working, especially Walken. Don't get me wrong, I'm a great fan of his work and I think it would be good on screen but it would seem too out of touch with what has gone before in these films. The casting should be less about Hollywood greats and just about who can deliver the right peromance.

Yeah he was in a few cartoons. In fact, I think he was the first villain the X-Men faced, excluding the Sentinels.
He captured Morph in the very first episode and turned him evil. Then when Magneto and Prof X went to visit the Savage Land, he captured them too and neutralized everyones powers.
Actually, now that I think about it, he was a pretty major bad guy throughout the first couple of seasons.

History:
Real Name: Dr. Nathaniel Essex
Aliases: Dr. Windsor, Mr. Sinister, Dr. Nathan Milbury, Mike Milbury, Lefty
Relatives: Rebecca (wife, deceased), Adam (son, deceased)
Alternate-X Versions: (Age of Apocalypse), (Mutant X), (Ultimate), (The End)
Codename Etymology: Pronounced sĭn'ĭ-stər [From Latin sinister "on the left, unlucky"]; Ominous, evil.
Powers & History: Sinister was a human doctor living in Victorian England who was augmented by Apocalypse. He does not age, and he appears to have total control over his body's molecules, allowing him to pass energy blasts through himself and change his appearance. It was recently revealed that this ability was derived from the cells of the mutant Courier in the late 19th Century, and not from any of Apocalypse's manipulations. Sinister may also have some telepathic abilities, like making people pass out.
A geneticist of unparalleled genius, Sinister foresaw the coming mutations that would befall mankind when he was still human. However, his unorthodox experiments caused him to be rejected by the Royal Society, and by his own wife in 1857, leading him to Apocalypse, who gave him a silvery skin and stripped him of his humanity. Interestingly, Cyclops and Phoenix were sent back in time by Sanctity of the Askani
Sinister has conducted numerous experiments in his time, plotting the course of certain genepools for over a century. He ran an obstetrics clinic in New York in the late 19th century and performed genetic research on society's deviants on the side. During WWII, he joined the Nazi scientists and managed to get a blood sample of the Sub-Mariner from which he created a clone, N2. N2 had the ability to absorb and project water, and defeated Namor and the original Human Torch quite easily, but fell to the unexpected skill of Captain America. Working first in the Nazi death camps as a "doctor," he counted Gabrielle Haller among his patients. In his guise as Dr. Essex, he influenced the research of Herbert Wyndham, the man who became the High Evolutionary. He also secured a position at Oxford as a biology professor, and taught Professor X and Moira MacTaggert, even becoming Moira's faculty advisor.
Over time he found that the combination of Scott Summers' and Jean Grey's genes would generate a mutant of incredible power. The young Scott was brought to Sinister's orphanage in Nebraska, and Sinister collected a blood sample from Jean Grey to confirm his findings. When Phoenix died, Sinister used that sample to create the clone who was known as Madelyne Pryor. Madelyne was set up to meet Scott, and naturally, the two fell in love and married. Madelyne gave birth to Nathan Christopher, a child with telekinetic powers, but before Sinister could get a hold of him, Madelyne allied herself with N'astrih and became the Goblin Queen. After that, Nathan was cared for by his father and the "resurrected" Jean Grey. Before Sinster could make another attempt to get Nathan, Apocalypse, sensing that this child could be a weapon for Sinister to use against him, infected Nathan with a techno-organic virus, which forced Cyclops to send him into the future, where he grew up to be the man we know as Cable.
In his pursuit of genetic perfection Sinister had Gambit assemble a group of assassins known as the Marauders. The Marauders entered the Morlock tunnels under Manhattan and commenced a slaughter, because Sinister considered the Morlocks genetically useless. However, Sinister sometimes aids the X-Men, for reasons all his own. He helped Gambit save Sabretooth's life after his adamantium was removed, he took in Threnody and helped her control her power before she escaped, and in the 19th Century, he helped Gambit stop the current Thieves' Guild from revealing Apocalypse's secrets to Candra, as well as returning Courier to a more human state. In each case, though, Sinister exacts a price, and it is usually very costly, not to the pocket, but to the soul.
When Herbert Wyndham (the High Evolutionary) activated a satellite that reverted all mutant DNA to human DNA, stripping all Earth's mutants of their mutations, Dr. Essex, who had come to support his student's work, then revealed himself as Sinister. He locked down Wyndham's armor and modified the satellite's beam to mutate every human being on Earth, providing Sinister with an entire planet of lab subjects. Fortunately he was stopped by the X-Men. Soon after, nearly 20 of Sinister's facilities were attacked by Domina, and she appeared to have killed him at each one. Exactly what happened to Sinister is unclear.
What is known is that Sinister survived, and after Colossus sacrificed himself to cure the Legacy Virus, he offered Nightcrawler the opportunity to resurrect Piotr as a clone. He was flatly refused.
Later, Sinister insinuated himself into the reborn Weapon X Program as "Dr. Windsor." He appeared to be saving mutants from the Neverland concentration camp, but in reality was bringing them to his secret lab and experimenting on them. As Windsor, Sinister was privy to the secrets of the Program's members, such as the fact that Mesmero had lost his powers and Sabretooth was again free of mind control, but he seems not to have acted on this knowledge, except to ensure that his identity was not uncovered.

Well, there is the whole cloning Jean and creating what would become the Goblin Queen. Then there's just years of messing with the Summers brothers...like owning the orphanage that Scott grew up in and totally messing with his head. He's one of those "behind the scenes" guys most of the time... and he has proven very difficult to kill.

A little bit on the likely Origin of the name:
'Mr Sinister Smiles' was a poem written by an anonymous that described how pale, freakish and grotesqye Syphillis can be for both the victim and the onlookers.
Mr. Sinister smiles--
At you--Lady, and drools--
And drips a bit from where
You'd guess, but would most fear.
He has made many plans:
Little trips for his hands.
And they all involve you.
Oh there's nothing to do--
But wait for him. He's there
You know, and he's like air:
He's everywhere you'd go.
He's got something to show
Just you. You won't like it.

I think Sinister is a good choice, plus introducing a new villain leaves a lot more to look forward too, than a new hero. But I think Gambit might be also, since the writers did plan to get him to be in the movie. But I agree, there are nearly a hundred different X-men characters, it could be anyone!!!

Hellfire Club
And/or Emma Frost?
Here's some quotes from Simon K:
Q: I remember a while back it was either you or Zak or someone else that said Warren Sr. was NOT the new villian like the AICN script review had reported. I hope this isnt a spoiler, but if he isnt then who is? Or are we assume that the Brotherhood and Phoenix are the only villians?
A: I can’t really get into detail about the film’s villains. But I will say that the AICN review was not accurate.
Q: What is your opinoin of the cinematic transition of the Hellfire Club, Nathaniel Essex and Apocalypse?
A: I would love to see them in an X-Men movie. We toyed with Apocalypse at one point. I’m a big Hellfire Club fan, and I wish there would have been an organic way to integrate them into our story.
Q: Personally, I think the Hellfire Club would fit the into the movie universe very well and could also be damn frightening and interesting villains. We've heard that Bryan Singer juggled with the idea of including Emma Frost and Sebastian Shaw into the third film when he was on board but what is your opinion, can you see them working in the film universe and would you think about including them as future villains if you got the chance? I know that Sinister and Apocalypse are very popular villains, and I can see Sinister making the transition from comic book to film and still being realistic, interesting and threatening, not so with Apocalypse, I've always seen him as a cheesy bad guy that's kind of one dimensional, what would you think about their inclusion in the franchise?
A: I think they would all be great on film. They’re all rich characters. And we considered a lot of them as we developed the story. But ultimately, the story dictates which characters will fit the film – we couldn’t force different villains into the movie simply for the sake of a cameo. Especially with these big characters, we all want to make sure they got their due. I hope to see them all (especially Emma) in an X-Men movie someday.
Q: If at some point in the future they decided to make an X Men 4 and you were working on the script, what storyline would you like to go with? Would it be one of your favourite storylines from the comics? What characters would you personally like to see translated to the big screen?
A: One of my favorite storylines is Days Of Future Past. But I’m not sure how film-friendly it would be. As for characters, I would love to write Emma and Gambit. They would be great fun to cast.

The X-Men need a 'Lex Luthor' type villain next, IMHO.

Either way, if this is true, it would likely mean that the character has already been cast.

One of my favorite characters, I always wanted Nathaniel Essex to be played by Henry Rollins. He's almost a perfect fit with the face and body. The story is really rich in detail, too. Some accounts of the comic book place Essex as the scientist who discovered the X-gene in the first place and experimented on so many different people on the planet that he is sometimes regarded as the cause for why mutancy is so widespread in the world and not just to a select few. He would be a great addition to the films, but I doubt he has anything to do with X3.

I could see his introduction as being more legitimate than Emma Frost or the Hellfire Club (if they were to be involved it should be with the current film and the Dark Phoenix arc). I still think Sinister and his storyline are entirely too involved. His storyline is so in depth that I think it gets confusing even for X-fans, let alone a general movie going audience. There's so much to explain, that is if they stay remotely true to his comic book counterpart.

This qoute possibly is the most funny thing I've ever read. Haha. Apocalypse is much worse than Sinister in those examples you posted.
Yes, I'd love to see Sinister in the ending. Of course, they would have to change his origin around a bit to fit the realism theme.
I think Ralph Finnes would be a great choice, but alas, I can't see him accepting a cameo role. He's one of those actors who doesn't do cameos. But if there are plans for him being the main villain throughout the future movies, I hope he gets chosen.
If Sinister is the surprise villain, we can pretty much count in Gambit and the Morlock Massacre. And since X3 is the last movie of the "trilogy", there will be a whole new trilogy. Perhaps the Apocalypse trilogy? You know, the fourth and fifth movie will build up to the Apocalypse storyline with a cliffhanger in the end of X4 and a whole Apocalypse movie in X6.
It's be great if we have the Hellfire Club in X4. After all, Kinberg did say that he would add Emma Frost. In the movies, there are always two plots, right? X2, we had the Brotherhood and X-Men teaming up and the Weapon X. X3, we have the "cure" and Dark Phoenix. They could fit the Hellfire Club somehow with Sinister in X4.

The reason I think he stands a chance is that he worked with Ratner before. Maybe he called him and said, "Look, I have this part I'm thinking would be fun for you and it has future potential...If you do it I'll buy ya a beer!" (Of course his agent would get a large sip.) :D

But yeah defintly some kind of subtle cliffhanger for x3. Subtle little hints have been kind of the trademark ending for the X films. X1 had Mags asking Xavier what he'd do when the humans come for him and his students ie Stryker in X2, X2 obviously with the pheonix ending leading to Jean's re appearence as Pheonix in X3. I'd bank on we'll get something and if the rumblings are true perhaps it will be something......Sinister. Yeah that was corny but I ran with it.:)

Same with Juggernaut.
But his history got streamlined.
True, but Juggernaut is just a support villain. His history and motivations need not be explained to a great extent. Whereas Sinister, if he were to be the next villain (completely replacing Magneto and the Brotherhood) and if there were to be a plot twist involving the Summers family as some have suggested, all of his motivations and exposition would have to be explained. His history could be streamlined a bit, but a main villain's motivations need reasoning. He needs a history, moreso than what will be necessary for someone like Juggernaut in X3 . . . but I see what you're saying. His character and his extensive history would undoubtedly have to be altered for the movie in some shape or form.

Yeah that is one of my favorite things about X1 and X2, the reference in X1 to Alkali Lake, the references to Liberty Island and Phoenix in X2.
