Tom Cruise (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000129/) is attacking those who prescribe psychiatric drugs again in the May issue of men's style magazine GQ. The Mission: Impossible III (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0317919/) actor, who embarked on an anti-drug tirade in TV interviews last summer on behalf of his Scientology beliefs, has launched a fresh attack on psychiatry, calling for prescription pill poppers to think carefully about the harms they're doing to their bodies. He tells the magazine, "I've always found the 'if it makes me feel better, it's OK' rationale a little suspect. I think it's appalling that people have to live a life of drug addiction when I have personally helped people get off drugs." In the interview, the actor claims he can get someone off heroin in three days through Scientology's detox programs.
Is there no end to this mad man's reign of terror?
I think people would be more receptive to what he talks about if not for the underlying egotism.
"I think it's appalling that people have to live a life of drug addiction when I have personally helped people get off drugs."
What do you want, a dog biscuit? A medal?
It's one thing to not agree with psychiarty, and believe me, I feel like most psychiatrists are no different than dudes slingin' on the corner. But Cruise swears he's a more educated professional than anyone in the field of psychiatry.

again, have to disagree. his stardom status has nothing to do with it. the fact that he spews complete fabrications on the other hand...
here's an excerpt from the Entertainment Weekly interview.
"Well, look at the history. Jung was an editor for the Nazi papers during World War II. [According to Aryeh Maidenbaum, the director of the New York Center for Jungian Studies, this is not true.] Look at the experimentation the Nazis did with electric shock and drugging. Look at the drug methadone. That was originally called Adolophine. It was named after Adolf Hitler... [According to the Dictionary of Drugs and Medications, among other sources, this is an urban legend.]"
And of course, here's the infamous Cruise/Lauer clip.

I work in a setting with a lot of mental health related issues. From my experience, psychiatrists are very quick to prescribe drugs to a person, and there's a lot of experimentation with combinations and such. However, I also know without these drugs, a lot of people wouldn't be able to cope. There lives would become such a horror to themselves.

I agree that people shouldn't be so dependent on prescription drugs but there's no denying the benefits of them and sometimes the necessity of them. Cruise needs to get off his high horse. I really hate people who act superior.

I don't think he's crazy. I just think he needs to get off his high horse and stop trying to pretend he knows it all. If he knows so much about Psychiatric drugs, then why didn't he go into that particular field? Why become an actor?
He's acting like he knows it all and that those who are actual experts in that field don't know what they're doing.
If he feels that strongly about it and has proof that through his Scientology program you can get sober in three days, then prove it and stop *****ing about it.
Of course everyone knows it's impossible(unless it's an act of God) to get a heroin addict sober in three days.

I don't think he's brainwashed. I think he's perfectly sane and is being a drama queen to the fullest.
But if he is brainwashed, then it won't be long before we have a Rosemary's Baby. Instead it'll be "Cruise's Baby" and instead of it being Satan, it'll be alien species implanting a seed into Katie's ovary and what is born is the Child of a Xenomorph or something.

I've never understood this; the man grated on my last nerve LONG before TomKat. When I watch a movie, I like to "see" the character, not the actor. When I watch Tom Cruise, I see Tom in wardrobe on a set (as with any actor I don't see embodying a character). I find that really distracting from the movie and overall storyline. *shrug* He's never been believable to me.

It's like DL says, I see Will Smith very similarly. (That was a good example, I couldn't think of anyone else:) ) Their acting feels very stagnant and flat. That's not to say I hate all their movies, but I think I would enjoy them more with another actor in their roles (most of the time, of course).

Cruise 'plans to eat baby's placenta'
Hollywood actor Tom Cruise is planning to eat his new baby’s placenta, it emerged today.
It is the latest in a series of unusual revelations by the 43-year-old Mission Impossible star about the child he is expecting with fiancee Katie Holmes.
He told GQ magazine: “I’m gonna eat the placenta. I thought that would be good. Very nutritious. I’m gonna eat the cord and the placenta right there.”
Cruise has also claimed he knew actress Holmes, 27, was pregnant, even before she told him.

Nothing wrong with eating it... Its pretty common... I highly doubt he will be waiting in the hospital with a knife and fork :o
Also... How come they are the only site reporting it?
Dodgy.
They also ****ed up another claim...
A follower of Scientology, he has defended the religion’s belief that women should give birth in silence.
“It’s really about respecting the woman. It’s not about her not screaming,” he has told GQ.
They are still claiming that the 'Silent birth' is the woman not making any noise, thats false.

If he wants to eat parts of his baby well, thats up to him. Whatever floats your boat I guess. Doesn't affect me in any way. Yes. Thank you. Except I disagree about his movies cause I still think he's a halfway decent actor given the right role. But I seriously wish people would stop giving in to Hollywood gossip. Who the **** cares if he eats his baby entirely? His job as an actor is to entertain me by accurately portraying characters in movies. That's all I care about. This planet would stand a serious fighting chance if we spent less time worrying about what Tom Cruise, Britney Spears, J-Lo and all those other clowns were doing with their personal lives and started demanding "REAL ****ING NEWS" from the people in charge of giving it to us. There's a whole lot of important **** going on on this planet right now. Tom Cruise is the least of our ****ing problems.

This is all media spin, & it is pathetic that people keep playing into it. Tom Cruise is a little eccentric, but hell most entertainers are.
I find really sad that on a site filled with comic book geeks that you all wouldn't sympathise with some one like Tom. I think that it is cool that he is doing his own thing. Being himself. As weird as it is. He is at least being himself. Let it go you all just chill out, & stop letting the media decide on who you like & diss-like.

You sound like a Tom Cruise loving whinner to me.

You are the last person who has any business calling Cruise gay?

Listen, I'm bi, so I know.
opps, did I put gay? I meant crazy.
Because you know, you're pretty much a scientologist...right?

I'm not saying it as an insult, but as a statement of fact. He's gay, everyone knows that he's gay, and I think he would be much happier and emotionally stable if he finally admitted it to himself. :o

That little spat with Matt Lauer is what started this whole thing. Had he not semi lost his composure, it wouldn't have been so bad. True, everyone is human, but his image was shattered in that one instant.

And for record, I still think that he is gay and that the baby was created through other means besides the one he's touting.

More stupidity from your side. No, I'm not a Scientologist, what they believe in is based on absolutely nothing and doesn't even follow it's own internal logic.
The Reptilian conspiracy theories, however, would still make a pretty damn good (and very elaborate) science-fiction story if they ever ended up being proven wrong.

I am not a Cruise supporter. I am just one of those people that actually question something before acting. It is pretty obvious that the media is spinning this, & making it a bigger deal than what it is.

You know what dude, I took offense to the first line in your post, "Everyone used to love Tom Cruise" because I didn't use to love him. That is the reason I lashed out and I'll do it again if anyone says something about me that isn't true.

Everyone still remembers that. He basically insulted depression sufferers saying chemical imbalances do not exist. I wonder what he would do if Katie started developing Post-partum depression  .
It's weird that the baby was born the same day as Brooke Shields' baby, and 2 weeks before MI:3.

I wonder why Tom has never got an Oscar, but his co-stars do....
And why does he always try to act hip, and say 'man' all the time:confused:

not to mention the EW interview that followed shortly thereafter.
I posted the excerpt on the first page but here it is again, just for fun.
[According to the Dictionary of Drugs and Medications, among other sources, this is an urban legend.]"
so Maximum_Carnage, while I understand you wanting to jump to Cruise's defence, calling us sheep isn't exactly accurate. we're simply attacking someone who presented us with allegedly true statements that later turned out to be completely fabricated.
I mean, that's what we do here. check out the Spider-man or Superman boards if you don't believe me.
