Yeah the hype is getting pretty bad for it... Not quite up to HALO2 level yet though :) I am ignoring most of the hype... The fact that its like God of War in a Sci-Fi setting is plenty to sell me on the concept.

Anyways, Metal Gear isn't that great a series. I'd more look forward to a Ghost Recon or a SplinterCell game. They're usually popular but I don't see why. Pretty simple design overall. Not "next-gen" gameplay.

Please. If it weren't for Harry Gregson Williams' score, I would have nearly killed myself laughing at Kojima's amusing and deliberate attempt at trying to make that pretentious scene even remotely "emotional".

Besides, the whole "hero-disguised-as-villain" angle was already done infinitely better in MGS2 with Solidus Snake and his final moment reaching for the George Washington statue. Now that was what can be called as a truly powerful moment. Because it was subtle, it had meaning and the score complemented that perfectly. While in the case of MGS3, it was literally dragging itself, shoved right in our faces and was instantly apparent that Kojima was just trying too damn hard to make you cry (or even make you care). No one except the most gullible suckers would fall for such chicanery.

Solidus reminds me of General Frank Hummel in The Rock. Sure, both adopt questionable means to achieve their goals but it doesn't change the fact that both were in fact, ultimately noble and bitter from the injustice perpetrated by the ruling powers.

Such as...? Everyone in the MGS saga has been working their asses off overtime to get rid of The Patriots while Solidus was the only one who succeeded enough to be percieved as an imminent threat to their existence. His methods were undoubtedly terrorist but it's much more important to note that they worked to serve his just cause. Like I said, he's very much like General Frank Hummel in The Rock. And anyone who still insists that his cause wasn't noble just because of his questionable means is stupendously naive.

Which is exactly why I prefer Solidus - because of the depth and complexity in his character. He was a villain sure, and at times you'd no doubt justify his immediate disposal, but as you progress through the game and get to know him and his ideals better, you'd realize that ultimately there was good in him. His character was painted with the "shades of grey" rather than the simpleton extreme contrasts of good and evil which made him so compelling.

By comparison, The Boss was excruciatingly one-dimensional with an increasingly dull black-and-white affair all the way. Meh. :down:

One of the characters in that film is a good guy...that is revealed to be a bad guy...but no! He's good again! Yay! We got too many characters like that and this is exactly what The Boss is.

I have to confess, this game looks like it will be very cool. Selfishly, I wish it was coming out for the PS3, because with game prices etc, I won't be gettinga 360 anytime soon. EDIT: Because I'm not made out of money darnit, I'll be getting a Revolution first with like 1 game (Probably Zelda but I'm going to play it as god intended with a regular controller), and then sell the vast majority of my old games that I do not play (Aside from the gems etc) trade in my old Xbox, Gamecube, and PS2, to pay for a PS3 like a year after launch and then happilly play through all the amazing games those two consoles will have and get a 360 when it's very inexpensive for the handful of games it has that will appeal to me by the generations near end, just like with the Xbox.
