The Budget

It's been reported that WB won't give Nolan and crew a budget as big as Batman Begins had($150 Million) because it had much lower numbers then expected. So what kind of budget are you expecting this one to get?

But I also think Batman 2 will do much better in theaters then Begins did because everyone is sure this series will do fine and Joker will be the main villian as opposed to Scarecrow and Ra's Al Ghul, 2 villians who the general audience knew nothing about. I'm thinking a $100 million budget will do, give or take a few.

Well I was under the impression that the budget might be smaller, but that's because they saved so many of the set pieces from BB. I always thought that they had planned on using all the set pieces again, so they gave BB a larger budget to build them, knowing that the next one would be a lower budget.

I'm gonna disagree and say I think the budget will be bigger than Begins. I think Begins was almost like a pilot if u will...I think WB will go all out on the sequel. They know they have something special. In a way this could be a bad thing though...

I dont think they're gonna need as big of a budget though. The sets are already built, and Begins traveled abroad some, which can get expensive. The sequel will most likely take place only in Gotham, on already built sets. It'll likely cost a good deal less.

I say, after the success of the first one, just give them whatever they need. It'll be worth it.

I can't see why there wouldn't be a much bigger budget.

Nonetheless, even if it is smaller, Nolan knows what to do. He started with small flicks. He's fully capable of utilizing what he has and squeezing the best quality output from it.

It seems that the new Bond flick, CASINO ROYALE, will only shoot for one week in the UK. The reason - the government's crackdown on abuse of the film tax credits. As a result, production in the UK has plummeted of late. What does this have to do with the BATMAN BEGINS sequel? Well, as you know, most of BEGINS was filmed in the UK. The report goes on to say, "UK officials have also expressed worries that the sequel to BATMAN BEGINS...will go [and film] abroad." As I reported to you all previously, Sir Michael Caine told us at the press junket that the BEGINS sets were left standing. BOF will keep our eyes on this situation...

If they wanna keep the budget the same, fine. I expect it will make a slightly better profit than Begins because of the orginal's word of mouth/ciritical/DVD sale success and the fact that the Joker is in the sequel. Those things may sell themselves.

I would think that the tax thing in England wouldn't cost as much as rebuilding the sets somewhere else. The Begins DVDs sold a lot and that also brought in a lot of money for the studio as well as making more people interested in a sequel.
I think many people didn't see it in the theatres because of bad memories about B&R, but afterwards bought the DVD because of the good word of mouth. Therefore I think it's very likely that the sequel will make alot more in the theatres than Begins did.

I also don't think they need that much more money. A Batman film doesn't require more money for bigger cgi fights etc. like Spider-Man in sequels.

Sequels generally have a bigger budget...but because they are using the same sets, it might keep it a bit lower or at least the same as the original. I just hope they don't spend too much and not turn out as much of a profit and then can the 3rd one. In the immortal words of Darth Vader, "Nooooooooooooooooo!!!"

On the websites Ive been to they say that budget was 135 mil. Anyways Id say a budget around 115 million sounds good.
