Why does Brainiac/Dr. Fine look like James Marsters?

Bla bla bla, I know it's because that is the actor playing the character. But why has this machine, that appears to have the power to take shape, multiply, form needle like appendages, look the way he does?

Is there some reason why he has this shape? Is he able to take other shapes, copy other people? If so, is the shape he takes now of any significance?

here's my stretch and theory: Is brainiac taking the shape of Zod? Brainiac seems to revere Zod. Would it be to much of a stretch if it was marsters who was playing Zod aswell?

then I reasoned it out a little. Zod was not a big man in the movies. Small in stature, but commanding in presence. We also know that Marsters can do a pretty groovy english accent.

Valid theory or no?

Because he's on planet earth? and he wants to get mixed with humans? lol.

I think he can copy other people, in Oracle, Jonathan's ghost comes back to tell Clark that he must kill Lionel, but probably it's Fine doing it, Jonathan would never say anything like that.

It's more like Lex is the 1 playing Zod, we can't be sure though, but he's getting superpowers in Oracle.
