It's one thing to buy a first issue and not know what to expect, but if you don't like a title, then just don't buy it.

Yeah, but I have been surprised when a comic has gotten better. (i.e. See Batman's Journey Into Knight.) Also, I will generally pick up a comic until whatever storyarc is finished.

Is this the same concept/characters that they were doing back in the late 80s? I remember I really liked that title back then.

It's the same organization, but it's been overhauled after Max Lord corrupted it in the build-up to Infinite Crisis. Now it's a blend of metahumans and humans working behind the scenes, basically. Alan Scott (the Golden Age Green Lantern) is the White King, Amanda Waller is the White Queen, Sasha Bordeaux is the Black Queen, Mr. Terrific is the White Bishop, and Fire is someone's Knight (I can't remember whose). Other known characters will be involved, like King Faraday and Count Vertigo, but it hasn't been revealed in what capacity they'll be acting.
