Well with the announcement of the director I would like to start a new thread (if there is already go ahead and merge or delete) for casting of both Billy Baston and Captain Marvel.
My pick so far for Marvel are Vin Diesel, The rock and Karl Urban. But someone else mentioned Adam Baldwin.
Billy Baston Jonah Bobo, Josh Hutcherson (both from Zathura)

I never thought about The Rock, but the more I think about it, his brand of self-depricating smart-aleck humor would probably work pretty good.
That would mean Billy would have to be a mixed-race street 'tween, which is probably a great starting point for a movie like this. Forget Vin Diesel. He doesn't fit, same for Balwin (Adam Baldwin? are you kidding?)
Would he do it? He certainly has the physique and the acting ability.
Would Morgan Freeman play the wizard Shazam?
Find someone who can play Billy Batson against these two and you'll have powerful magic indeed.

Hmmm some other ideas, Vince Vaughn, Billy Zane (even though he did the Phantom)

Dwayne Johnson would really make a great Captain Marvel, IMO. He has the talent to convey the child-like innocence and awe-inspiring power. I think he'd do a great job.

The more I think about it, the more I like Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson for Captain Marvel. I like the idea of a Billy Batson teenager based on him.
Now we just need to find a teen to match and we're almost there.
(OK, Telfer looks good, too.)

And is it me, or does Paul Telfer up there look like he could bend Brandon Routh into a pretzel?

I like Adam Baldwin for Captain Marvel. If he could bulk up, Matthew Settle (http://www.imdb.com/gallery/granitz/4276/Events/4276/MatthewSet_Mazur_7213370_400.jpg?path=pgallery&path_key=Settle,%20Matthew) would be good too.

I started thinking what age should Bill Baston be in move? A preteen like 9-11 years or young teen to young adult 13 -18?

just thought. casting of billy will make sequals difficult. Billy would need to be young. there is usually 2-3 years between sequals (no doubt they are planning to make 3 like they do with most comic book films), you could have a problem of casting a 9 yr old but by the time the 3rd one comes out he's 18.

For Captain Marvel, how about Prison Break's Dominic Purcell? People suggested him for Superman a while back. I don't really see that, but I could see him as Marvel if they were going for a more serious tone with him (like the way he's been portrayed recently in Infinite Crisis and JSA, versus the "big red cheese").

For Black Adam, just judging on the way he was drawn in his particularly badass moment in IC # 7, Hugo Weaving would be perfect. But since he's already Agent Smith and V (and will hopefully be Sinestro someday, keeping my fingers crossed) I'll have to cast a vote for someone else. How about Justin Theroux?

George Eads. As soon as I saw that picture I said "holy crap" goofy grin and all he is a shoe in for Marvel. The thing that needs to be remembered with Marvel, is that He is big, not just kinda big, but real big, thick across the chest and shoulders. So no skinny actor could bulk up if he didn't already have the frame.
I also think The Rock would be great for Marvel. He's got the sense of humour, the size, and he's one of my favoirte actors today. I'd love to see him in a movie since he got passed over for other superhero roles. The mixed race thing is also pretty cool since we've got a press of white superheroes on the big screen right now.

I'm diggin the choices of Eads, Johnson, and Warburton but my favorite so far is O'Connel. Dye his hair black and slick it back and he would rule as Cap.
Here's an odd and ironic choice. Tom Welling. He can play that goofy kid thing real well and pretty much has naive written all over him...Tom Welling vs. Brandon Routh. That'd be funny. :D
