Let's say Marvel was to get rid of one of two Spider-Man powers; I'm referring to his new ones. Which one could you live with?

shinlyle
04-19-2006, 01:51 PM
I'd rather him lose them all...still, if I had to pick one I could live with, it would be the organic webbing...despite the fact that it demeans Peter's skills of invention....

Aw, crap, read the question wrong before I voted. D'oh!

Minus one from stingers and add one for webbing.

F**K! I did the same! :o

Screw it, I'll say it instead...out of the two, I'd like to see the stingers gone. For good! It's the lesser of the two evils IMO.

Dammit, guys! I hope no one at Marvel reads this poll, or else they'll.....I don't want to think about it!!!

Oh well...I'm sure enough votes will still turn the tide of it all. I can't think of anyone who actually likes the stingers aside fromt he occasional troll and the occasional blithering idiot.

Why would you say that?....Pete was still capable of inventing the spider shooters, which is pretty durned impressive for a teen :).....the organic webbing simply made "the great invention" obsolete, it doesn't demean the inventor...

...personally I always liked the TAS explanation of Pete's web shooters in that his spider abilities made him more in tune with enzymes and the such that made up spider webbing

True, but no new readers of the book would ever know anything about the mechanical web-shooters, as they are NEVER mentioned in the ongoing series'. The last mention of them that I recall was in the "I (Heart) Marvel: Web of Romance" one shot. Aside from that, they haven't been mentioned since MKSM #4, when Peter tried to use them, but they weren't there, as he fell off of a building.

I'd much rather have the organic webbing stick around (pun intended, *******). Honestly, I forget it's even there most of the time. The stingers...you can't really forget.

Good point....and the way Pete's being portrayed these days, someone new to the character (within the last year or so) would rightly assume he's Rhino smart with a better repertoire of one liners!

Given the level of intelligence with which Spidey is portrayed nowadays, it wouldn't shock me in the least to see him charge through a wall and get stuck in his own webbing. Anyone who would accept an uber-technologically-based suit and wear it without checking it for booby-traps and failsafes and then swear a blood-oath to an alcoholic and act like his dumbfounded sidekick isn't the brightest light in the hall, you know?

I remember when Peter used to be able to whip up serums to turn the Lizard back into Curt Conners, he used to build seismic disruptors and insulated suits and such out of household junk....hell, he even found a frequency that coincided with his Spider-sense so that he could more effectively track foes!

Now, Peter has trouble balancing his checkbook and working an MP3 player. It's ridiculous.

So technically we have no votes for the stingers at this time.

I didn't see the actual preview at Pop Culture but didn't Pete also just speak at the Senate in defence of not registering only to realize his speech actually in effect defended the pro registration stance?.......

I don't have to choose. I choose not reading Spider-Man comics because both powers are ridiculous. The organic webbing should be coming out of his a*s, etc etc, talked about to death already. And the Stingers aren't even on a Spider, maybe a future evolved spider from the year 4012,

When you start letting the Movies dictate continuity in the original comics, you have f**ked the whole point of the comics.

The all new all daring Man-Spider-God-Lackey-Dumbass-conveniantly shoots organic webs out of his wrists-with future spider power that hasn't ever needed to exist in Spiders for millions of years- guy.

Sounds ridiculous, doesn't it?

CConn

When you start letting the Movies dictate continuity in the original comics, you have f**ked the whole point of the comics. Then comics have been ****ed since Superman: The Movie. Hell, even before then, a great deal of the Superman mythos came from radio dramas. And the character of Barbara Gordon (Batgirl) was created for the TV show before ever making her way into the comics. Letting the movies and other forms of media dictate continuity isn't necessarily a bad thing. Letting bad ideas dictate it is.

I guess it can be safe to say that, while I would rather have Spidey go back to mechanical web-shooters, THE STINGERS HAVE GOT TO GO. I don't care HOW Marvel gets rid of them as long as they DO get rid of them. They're too much of a rip-off of Wolverine's claws, they're too damn big, he has zero control over them, they're offensive (and potentialy lethal) weapons that Spidey doesn't need, and we didn't find out that they had a toxin until FNSM#6--AFTER the Other was over. And even more proof that the stingers are a misfire, event those who liked the Other want to see them gone. I imagine that a few years down the road, the stingers will be regarded with the same amount of ridicule and forgetability as the Spider-mobile--only not with the same degree of bemusement.

I really hate the stingers, it's as if they are trying to make spidey compete with wolverine. On the flip side, I love the organic webbing and always wanted his webbing to be a power of his way before it actually happened.

Heh, a lot of people here sure like to rush...
Sure like everyone in here I would choose the organics over the stingers but, as most of you here said as well, he has to get rid of both.
Seems these so called ‘writers’ scratched out the word that usually had to come after ‘power’.

Newer fans will know because they'll meet an older fan who will tell them the real deal. Or they'll read the Essential volumes, etc.

I miss the web shooters because of the web fluid. Sometimes he'd run out and be screwed. Made it dramatic at least.

They also don't mention the Web stingers and the impact webbing invented by Ben Reilly. But...that would mean mentioning the Clone Saga which is taboo for some reason.

organic webbing is one change the movie made that I actually favor now. At first when I heard about I thought the movie was about to go down the tubes, but the more I thought about it, the more I liked it.

The stingers are retarded.

Anyone think that this whole "other" was a way to give him the organic shooters like the movie. Maybe they will get rid of the stingers and keep the webbing and people will simply be gratefull. According to this poll, it may work. pretty crafty of Marvel.
