I kind of like Soranik Natu's. I seem to be a collar fiend.

For those who like visual aids--which should really be included in a thread polling people's reactions to costumes--here are the ones the poll mentions:

Rayner (CURRENT)

Stewart (As seen on JLU)

Jordan (CLASSIC)

why did they have to give Guy that uniform back? it sucked so bad...

Actually, that uniform is the best out of the lot (Gardner).

TheCorpulent1
04-20-2006, 01:56 PM
It would've been nice if they'd just upgraded him to a full-on jacket instead of that ugly jacket-vest contraption. Otherwise, though, I think his costume's fine. You know Guy gets up, looks in the mirror, and thinks, "Damn, I am stylin' so much more than those other losers." :D

TheCorpulent1

Then he should've specified better. The new Ion costume is his current costume.

This thread should have included Alan Scott :(

TheCorpulent1
04-20-2006, 02:35 PM
I would've voted for him. I voted for John.

Kyle's Ion suit annoys the hell out of me because only the circle and bottom part of the lantern symbol are glowing. The top part is just green like the rest of his upper torso. They couldn't have just added a little piece of glowing crap up there to balance the symbol out? It just aggravates me every time I see it now. Plus, starry non-masks are always lame.

Hal's costume is decent, but I prefer the current one without the green codpiece.

Guy's costume looks good on him, but it's definitely not one of my favorite GL costumes.

TheFalcon
04-20-2006, 03:02 PM
I voted for Stewart too, but my all-time favorite GL costume is the one Kyle had before he became Ion again.

Harlekin
04-20-2006, 03:05 PM
Alan would've also gotten my vote if he was in this, but alas, Guy is forced to own the bunch again. :D

jaydawg

John. It takes all the classic core look and elimates all the lame parts of it (the random white gloves and the whole crotch reaching leotard thing).

Oh and I like that pic of the current Ryaner

Anubis
04-20-2006, 06:05 PM
Rayner's suit before the change over to Ion again was probally my favorite GL suit. But now he's got a Genis-Vell KNock off. Guy's current looks good but only when drawn by Patrick Gleason. And I never liked Hal's unitard thing. His current one looks good though. So I'll just have to go with John Stewart.

Kyle is easily the most powerful now that he's regained his Ion powers. It's unclear how much of the original Ion's power level he's got now (though it's not full power, given that the Central Power Battery is still chugging away), but it's safe to assume he's beyond any normal GL.

Guy gardner. It would look the least stupid in real life.

That's the criteria for a good superhero costume? Wow, I guess Professor X beats everyone, then. People wear suits all the time in real life.

rigel7soldiers
04-20-2006, 09:59 PM
Eh. It's relative. Chuck doesn't have a costume since he's not a superhero, per se. He's also a incredibly boring, so I don't much care about what happens to him.Let me reword what I said earlier; Guy's costume looks the least stupid, and thus the best, in my opinion, which is biased because Guy is the only human GL I find at all interesting.

Are you serious? The only GL look that would look worse than Guy's in real life is Alans. That late 70s/ early 80s style never looked good.

TheCorpulent1
04-22-2006, 10:18 PM
Alan's would look fine in real life. It's a business shirt and pants with a cape over it. It'd certainly look better than tights on a real person. :o

TheCorpulent1

Kyle was at least as powerful as Parallax with his Ion powers.

I don't know WHY you guys are saying "from the jlu" for John Stewart, since that's his current costume.... stop busting out that corny five year old picture...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v107/Hype1/Green%20Lantern/johnstewart_white2.jpg

this is my fave... Kyle's cool, in that cosmic way... Hal's classic... can't hate it, but not my fave... and Gardner... he's wearing a vest-jacket... HOW can that be cool? I thought part of Guy's appeal was 'yes i look like a dork... so?'

jaydawg
04-23-2006, 08:50 PM
Guy's costume is cool in the Guy context. It would look retarded on anyone else. And Corp, Alan maybe the greatest badass of all GLs, past and present, but that doesnt change how terrible his costume is. Nothing matches at all. At least Jordan's got some sense of style.

Anubis

Thats strange that they would allow superheors into the organization. Really looking forward to next week so I can find out just wtf thats all about.

TheCorpulent1
04-23-2006, 09:15 PM
The whole point of the Checkmate organization post-IC is to be a mix of metahumans and humans. Rucka's said the whole series is built on balances, one of which is the balance between humans and metahumans.

Personally, the incredible realism of the cover just shows bad it would look in real life. Its like he was wearing some casual clothes (although I never seen anyone in a red shirt, green pants combo) and added a gawdy purple cape and thought it would make a good superhero costume. I love Alan and all, and let the costume slide since he easily is the coolest golden age-er out there, but it really is a terrible costume.

According to you. I like it and the Golden Age feel it has. His Sentinel costumes never looked right to me.

jaydawg
04-24-2006, 01:46 PM
Yes, thats why I said personally. Never cared for his Sentinel costume myself. Even if he was put in the Corp's colors, it wouldn't sit right. Thats why I just let it be.

TheCorpulent1
04-24-2006, 02:23 PM
It's the cape, in my opinion. People don't associate GLs with capes, so it seems awkward when they learn that the original GL had a cape.

Chris Wallace
04-24-2006, 02:24 PM
It's the clash; red+purple+yellow+green? Doesn't work.
It's the least color-coordinated costume I've ever seen.

TheCorpulent1
04-24-2006, 02:26 PM
It's not ideal, granted, but it still works for me. At least the purple breaks up the Christmas mix of his Sentinel costumes.

LanternFan
05-24-2006, 12:35 AM
It doesn't matter that the colors clash. It's a classic golden age look. The high collar, the flowing cape. It's meant to have a gothic, supernatural, almost wizardly feel to it. Remember, Alan's power is based in magic.

Yes, red and green don't typically go together, but sometimes in the right context, it's just great.

To me, Alan Scott IS the Golden Age.

Classic Gardener of course.

Is Ion going to be an ongoing series or limited?

The Leaguer

It's a 12 issue maxi-series as of now, but if it's successful enough, it'll get picked up as an ongoing.

I wish GL artists would get their damn act together. JSA Classified has featured an entire arc of Gulacy drawing Alan with the wrong ring on the wrong finger. :o

LanternFan
05-26-2006, 04:13 PM
That's always been a problem. Artists don't seem to pay enough attention to the fine details like ring desing. I've seen Hal's and Kyle's rings change several times depending on the artist.

Frustrating.

yenaled
05-26-2006, 04:47 PM
Yeah, I hate that too, I'm sure Hal was wearing Alan's ring in GL, and Alan was wearing the ring on the wrong finger (his wedding finger not his middle finger).

The "DC Bible" by George Perez is a good idea. A big document on what people look like - not how to draw them stylistically - but things like the GL's differing rings, hair on people, etc, etc.

TheCorpulent1
05-26-2006, 05:48 PM
It's so simple, though. Alan's ring looks basically like the lantern on his chest with a band. Hal's is the old-school Corps symbol with a circle around it. Kyle's is the new Corps symbol with no circle around it.

GL1
01-08-2008, 11:28 AM
But his costume is frikkin crud. The fact that they didn't redesign it for his rebirth is the biggest slap in the face of all. He loves his horrid lack of style. Where's the bowl cut, anyway? Guy makes the suit seem cool, I can assure you it's not the other way around.

Stewart is classy, that I can chime in with.

And this poll is invalid now, because all those votes are for a costume of Kyle's which is not current.

Sorry but the collar on Guy's jacket looks like the collars on the cheap leather jackets people wore to gay bars back in the 70's. That's all I can think of when ever I see him in that costume.
