View Full Version : Marvel's Trump Card

In the midst of all these horrible spiderman stories and talk about revamping, i think Marvel has one big trump card left that they are waiting to use. Baby May. everybody seems to have forgotten about her. Im betting she's alive and well, somewhere. Marvel is just waiting for the right oppurtunity to bring that story back into action and save the Spider-man books. Thats just what i think. What do y'all think? Think about it, bringing Baby May back could do ALOT to the spider-man stories... if handled properly of course.

If handled well, I would like to see baby May come back.

I think it'll take more than bringing back Baby May to save the books at this point.

I don't think Baby May should be allowed to be raised by a guy as dumb as the current Spider-Man is. Also, Peter stabbed a guy through the arms and ate his head....not exactly "father of the year" material, you know?
Honestly, if a capable Spidey-writer handled it, I wouldn't mind, but I haven't seen a truly capable writer on Spider-man in awhile. :(

Tom Cruise just became a father again, current Spidey is no less intelligent than he is. :)

So true...I'm just waiting for Spidey to come out and start molesting couches, eat his baby's placenta, and then tell everyone that Psychiatry is all fake.
Wow....I hope Marvel doesn't read that...

Don't forget the apperance on Oprah where he talks about how in love he is.:)
I hardly see Baby May as a trump card - that would HAVE to bring Norman into it and he's not exactly popular since Sins Past.

Which is why you retcon "Sins Past" before you bring back Little May....in fact the retcon of Sins Past could be the lead in to the return of Baby May.....Goblin's admission that the children (Gabe and Sarah) not being his could coincide with another admission of playing the surrogate dad to children who have no relationship to him!!.....

Yes bring baby May back! Having a couple o hundred issues lying around that involve a character who doesn't exactly exist, would seem kind of strange and peculiar to those who read them in the near future. :o

At this point, this isn't a trump card so much as just another in a long string of "shocking events". There is no way that it would be handled with the delicate care and attention to detail that it deserves. I say let Baby May live in peace in comic book limbo...Pete's got enough problems, like figuring out how to extricate himself from Tony Stark's ass.

He didn't just do that to "a guy". He did that to some psycho who was going to kill him, and hurt his wife. Parker also didn't technically do it, as he wasn't in control of his action at that point so...yeah...

Yeah.....try selling that one to a court of law.
Peter: "I stabbed him and ate his head....but it wasn't me!!"
Judge: "Well, who was doing it?!"
Peter: "It was the Spdier side of me that did it! I had no control over it!"
Judge: "I thought you were bitten by a radioactive spider?"
Peter: "So did I, but JMS says it was magical, and I listen to JMS because I am a tool!"
Judge:

JMS went back and said that the spider that bit Peter was actually a magical spider. Peter is now the heir to the magical powers of a totemistic Spider-Demon/God. He is now "more spider than man" and all kinds of lame bulls***.
It was alluded to in the beginning of JMS's run, and then it was solidified as his new origin in "The Other".
Welcome to Spider-Fan Hell. :(

Yep Yep. I just want to add that that magical spider was essentially a henchman of the Spider-God. It was carrying the power that was meant for Peter and the radiation had nothing to do with Peter becoming Spider-Man.
Also it was Peters' "hunter" mentality that made him such the obvious choice for the mighty Spider-God.
whew...what a joke.

This sums up exactly how I feel. It would be really cheap to bring May back at this point.
As for the "magical spider" thing... I'm still keeping my toes crossed that this somehow connects to how Dr. Strange said that Peter was cursed. It's all a trick, I tells ya! He's under Loki's "let's make this guy look like an a**" spell!

Like everyone else, I hated the mystical orgin thing, never sat right with me.
I did however like the idea that Peter never tried to explore the extent of his powers, that fear of him being more spider-like than human. When he helps those people in collapsed building / fire / plot device / whatever, it was interesting to see him run weblines all over to try to feel vibrations to find some sign of life. Stingers-aside (I just cant go along with them) I liked the new extension of his powers. If it had be done as just an evolution of power arc or getting completely over his hangups about what the damn spider bite did to him, it would have been much more enjoyable to read.
I get sick of every new villain trying to be Spiderman's ultimate foe. Norman's done enough damage, no one's going to top it, and if they did it would just ruin Peter's character. Enoughs happened to him, I think they just need to move on. They should find a good way to bring baby May back into the picture, get the family out of Stark's place and let them try being... I dunno... a family? He can't be a kid forever. Highschool and College are over. He's got a wife and his aunt. Maybe its just me, but the it feels like a slap to the theme of responsibility in the Spidey books if Pete didnt eventually have a family life. Let Aunt May pass of natural causes someday in the future, show the impact she had on his life. Then let Pete realize MJ (and hopefully baby May, if brought back) is his family. Its not just making it up to Uncle Ben, but making Aunt May proud and giving his wife (and kid) a better place to live. It wont be boring if you get a writer that cares about the character, the continuity and the themes. That's just my take on it. Some people might agree, a lot of people wont.

The saddest part of all is that means that the radiation was just a pointless side-effect of the spider's bite, and Pete went through all his radiation-based trauma (Man-Spider and what-have-you) for nothing. Kind of a dick, that Spider-god, eh?

Or you could simply follow my much more enjoyable theory; pretend The Other never happened. :o

If we assume Ezekial knew what he was talking about, his exact words when first encountering Peter were
"I'm about to yank your chain like nobody else ever has before and nobody ever will again. So listen carefully. Did the radiation enable the spider to give you these powers? Or was the spider trying to give you those powers before the radiation killed it?"
Ezekial was inferring to Pete that his belief that his powers stemmed from being accidentally bitten by a radioactive spider was in error......Ezekial was clearly telling Pete that the radiation merely sped up the spider's resolve to transfer his powers (a pre-destined action) to the "chosen one" before the "radiation" that in this theory is merely an unplanned variable, killed it.
There may have been something written after this that suggests the mystical spider required the radiation but I personally don't recall it................

Come on, JMS makes it all up as he goes along. There is no master plan. Its just randomly generated poor stories month after month.

If, and this is a HUGE if, Marvel even so much as thinks of bringing baby May back it will still suck. So far just about every story with a great lead in has blown up in our faces. The Other was supposed to deal with the life threatening disease and new appearance of Morlun...funny, I don't remember gigantic plot holes, MJ and May in Iron Man suits, and STINGERS as a part of that plug. I guess they must have left that part out.Hell even Sins Past sounded like an exciting read before everyone had to flip through the panels of a certain black headband sporting young lady getting screwed by the freakin Green Goblin! Can you imagine how badly they would f*** up a story with baby May!?! As someone who actually likes the idea of Peter and MJ having a family, I say keep Marvel as far away from this story as possible. I would rather it remain in limbo than have them destroy little Mayday.

Honestly it isn't the clone saga marvel is afraid of, it's Pete showing any signs of evolution in his character. Marvel is willing to give us Totem spider gods and Gwen Goblin children before Peter and MJ's child. Spider-man can't age, but he can have stingers! :p

The Ultimate Clone Sage will be nothing like 616's. We've already met Ben Reilly in USM, remember?
Marvel probably isn't as afraid of the Clone Saga as they once were, and JoeQ may even be getting cocky enough to want to bring it back up as an in-story event. But considering that they already feel like Peter is too tied-down with his wife, I seriously doubt that they're going to introduce a child into his life.
Unless it's just to kill her off for good. Don't scoff; you know they'd do it.

Great post! Exactly. The radiation suppossedly has nothing to do with Peter becoming Spider-Man. The Spider-God sent his little spider henchmen to go bite Peter and coincidently went to the science experiment to do it and coincendently got killed by the radiation as he was biting Peter. Now if this has all been a trick, it's not one that can make many fans happy and has gone on for too many YEARS!
but we know it's not a trick, JMS may retcon his own lame, silly origin but he still meant for it to stick, especially creating the 'Other' and additional powers which solidifies this mystical origin.
Now JMS has signed an EXTENSION to keep writing Spider-Man. It's a complete joke, what's become of Spider-Man continuity and theme, but he's getting rewarded for his "effort."
Like what was just posted by Larry, JMS seems to be writing "on the fly."
So if you get off on a writer because they keep delivering the entertainment value you believe is 1st rate, than you may like Spider-Man comics by JMS, just because he is writing them.
But it's really inconceivable to me that a fan of the Spider-Man theme and continuity would have any positive interest in what JMS has done and continues to do, unless you completely ignore your previous love for continuity and theme and disillusion yourself into believing witty dialogue and Aunt May being spunky is more important to you.
