Hawkeye in Ultimates: weakest member?

I love The Ultimates as much as everyone else, but I have to wonder what Hawkeye is doing there. Is he super-human in any way, apart from his incredible aim? And even then...he's got a bow-and-arrow!

Props to Mark Millar for giving him good scenes (such as the "matrix lobby scene" tribute in Vol.2) but I have a lot of trouble believing this.

Why a bow and arrow, also, instead of any other weapon? I just don't think Hawkeye would have much to contribute with Iron Man, Captain America, Thor and Giant Man on the team.

Well, if you've read his appearances in Ultimates 2, you'd see he has a lot to offer. The man is a card-carrying badass, and sometimes, that's enough.

Well, it's a government team. Each memeber brings an area of expertise. Hawkeye is black ops stealth. He's the assasin. Captain America may be able to beat up cyborg terrorists, but I doubt he could infiltrait a heavily gaurded terrorist camp, take out their leader, and do so by keeping the casualties to a minimum. And as for why a bow and arrow: It's probaboy just what he's most comfortable with. And, if you make it right, an arrow will peirce a bullet proof vest.

Arrows are also versatile. He can use them in a variety of different ways. There's net arrows, gas arrows, explosive arrows, etc.

and I agree with Harlekin, you should see the **** he pulled off in vol 2. He's as good as Bullseye.

Actually, it isn't. One could. theoretically, flick something like a fingernail into someone's neck like that. You'd just have to be highly skilled and seriously ****ed in the head to try and pull it off.

No, this was after the TBolts betrayed Zemo and went off on their own. They were kinda directionless, but then Hawkeye thought they had potential, being a reformed villain himself, and offered to lead him. They didn't trust him, and they fought, and he whooped their asses

But I don't base Wasp's Badassness upon Ultimates. I base it upon her leadership abilities in the 616. She's very good. She went from a ditzy sidekick to one tough broad who can lead Gods into battle. Just read Avengers Forever and tell me Wasp aint worth a damn.

It doesn't matter if Wasp is the weakest on a team, she's not there for physical power. She's there for stealth, recon, versatility, knowledge, and leadership. That MORE than makes up for not being a major physical threat

Just like throwing cards and slicing people open is a fantasy. MythBusters actually did a show on the card thing..they put playing cards through a machine that flicked the cards faster than any human could, and even then it gave mild paper cuts. They concluded it was MYTH.


Even if you trained 24/7/365 days a year at using fingernails..a human being could NEVER do that.

BTW i liked the scene..even though i think Ultimate hawkeye's costume is perhaps the worst costume ever. He looks like some reject from a German S and M orgy club. Thank god he was not in costume in that scene.

I dont consider bats "unbelievable" in what he does...granted i am not a regular Bat man follower , but the guy uses so many tools and such he really never comes across that way to me.

The only thing i would knock..is being in the JLA and being a big proponent of using all sorts of tools...you would think Batman would have already built himself a battle suit for full time use ala his suits from Dark Knight returns and his predator comic.

Ripped off fingernails are much sharper than playing cards. Nor is flicking them anything like throwing a playing card. It's not really an apt analogy. And if you hit the throat in the right spot, it'd probably peirce the jugular and they'd bleed to death.

Cap is superhuman. Always had been. Nothing Bullseye does is impossible, and The Punisher is just an ex marine with a **** load of guns. Nothing superhuman about that.
