I love sports. Football mainly grew out of basketball it's more about money then the talent lately. I try I really do when it comes to football, but it's like when I get one ruled drilled into my head something comes along to contradict it.

It's hard to explain trust me bf and exbf, father cousins everyone tries. It's more of while we're watching it. Like one time forget who was playing we'll say the Bengals and the Ravens
Ok QB throws to the endzone, let's say Ray catches it, now he catches it while his feet are in the air but he's over the endzone, TD right? The call had said he was out of bounds because his upper body landed out of bounds. I thought once your feet touched the endzone while ball was in hand it was a touchdown. Confusion!!!!!

I'm not qualified to answer the guy question, but I understand sports largely because my brother took the time to make his little sister less annoying when sharing the TV. He explained the rules when I asked questions (most of the time) and, uh, the world is better off for it? Sure.

Well DM it's not the explaining of what is football it's the understanding of it with me. I mean I can sorta follow the game but the ref's make some ass backwards calls.
I mean if she's like Danger what's a quarter-back? Stare at her, slowly turn back to the screen and ignore her until yer ready for bed. But if I said Danger...'Why did he make that call when you clearly saw....(whatever), then do I get input?

He also has to have possesion of the ball. He can't be juggling it as he goes out of bounds.

Respond to her the short stop, he has to pitch the ball to the goalie so the team skate around to catch the puck so the forward can slam the ball into the bat so the jockey and the horse can score, but only if the Harry Potter's broomstick can dodge the birdie. LOL

If he had possesion, and his feet were on the ground then it should have been called a touchdown.
NFL, Both feet have to be in bounds.
College, Only one foot has to be down in bounds.

I've been with my current girlfriend for a little over a year and I've turned her from your basic "Huh? What's happening?" to, well, a sports fan. It was difficult to explain football, but baseball and basketball were easy to "teach." Now she's familiar with the players (even their numbers) and has even bought a few jersies for herself. *Excellent* (in best Mr. Burns voice)

Red Sox fan, eh? You beat us 3 games to 1. :(
I LOVE going to the games... will head to Safeco on Sunday. The atmosphere is just... electrifying. Anyone who isn't a fan, will leave most likely converted.
Awww... that was so... cute what she did. And Pedro Martinez is a sport for playing along. :)
yeah, pedro's a big flirt. :)

You never realize how nuts the populous is until you visit SHH. :o
And I don't really discuss the sports with the significant other, because it will mean she'll end up discussing something very girly that I will regret learning all the inner workings of in the long run. :(

I always LOVE the blatant stereotypes about males and females that pop up here.
Where's the option for 'I don't have to explain, she already knows." or "She explains them to me."?
I used to be work in the SID at my college doing football, basketball and hockey. I was also Sports Editor for my college paper... not only can I read box scores, I can write the damn things.
I've explained the rules/workings of various sports (some I know better than others) numerous times to various guys over the years. Hell, I can even explain the fine points of Sumo Wrestling.
So for all you complaining about "guys knowing sports is such a stereotype"... so is "girls not knowing sports.

Whatever your pleasure, football, baseball, basketball, hockey, rugby, soccer, do you guys take the time to explain to your girlfriends or your girl friends?

I'd rather sit at home and watch an F1 race. Ball's do nothing for me unless they're attached to something...

Well, I believe he said he's already made a fan out of her just by watching the sport on TV. It's a totally different atmosphere watching it in front of the telly than to see it live at the ball field. It's 10x better, imo.

It's very stereotypical to say that all women don't know sports. There's probably a good amount of men out there who wouldn't know a lateral compared to a lay-up.
But if I ever met a girl who didn't understand, I'd take the time to explain it. After they get me a cold beer.
