View Full Version : I have a bad feeling about this....

...no, not the movie! Not the runtime. Not the director, screenwriters, and no, not Cyclops' fate.
I am 100% convinced that this movie is going to be awesome, and 95% convinced that this movie will be the best one yet (something I didn't think was possible after watching X2)
No, but what I am worried about, is the consistancy. Even though this is a new director, and a new scriptwriter (Zak Penn isn't exactly new, seeing as though he was on X2, and in an interview revealed that Hayter & Co. practically used Penn's idea / outline for X2), and they should add their own flair to it (which I can tell they have. Even though from trailers they definatley kept the tone, it still looks different), there are some things I don't want them to touch.
Mainly, the trademark opening sequence of an Xavier voice over, CGI intro, and camera zooming through the Cerebro door into the first real scene of the movie.
Here's where I'm worried; when asked about it (trademark opening sequence), Kinberg said they wanted to respect the traditions of the franchise, while making it unique. And now, I think I've come to the realization of what that means, and it's gotten me worried.
Look at the 2 trailers we have. Look at the Marvel logo, and look at how the Marvel logo zooms to the screen through the "R" taking us to the scenes...
The Marvel logo in the trailers is unique. I've never seen the Marvel logo "metal" up, or whatever it's doing. It's probably gonna be used in the movie (just like other Marvel movies have had a unique logo sequence), and I have a bad feeling that part of that unique logo sequence is opening up the movie through the "R" in "Marvel", which I hope they don't do, because different directors or not, the whole Cerebro door entrance has become the X-Men's version of "A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away..."
Consistancy, damnit! That's all I ask for!

I'm almost positive they will remain true to the iconography of the first two movies, namely with the Xavier voice-over leading into a CG title sequence, finished with the Cerebro doors closing & the zoom to a blue scene.
It would be disrespectful to the tradition established by Singer in the first two movies, and since Ratner and Singer are friends, it would make sense for Ratner to pay homage to his predecessor.
With the metalled-up Marvel logo, I think the practice of a unique Marvel intro began with Hulk, which featured rapid-fire scenes from the Hulk comic, fading to a green background. Spider-Man 1 and 2, while not showing Spidey comic panels exclusively (rather they seem to be random panels from throughout the Marvel catalogue), have established the red background. F4 had F4 panels and then a blue colour, so really the only other choice for background colour of the X3 Marvel logo is yellow, which would seem rather jarring and out of place considering the visual tone of the first two movies. I like the metal logo, but I'm convinced the other opening sequences will remain true to form.
As you said, it'd be like Star Wars without the green-gold LucasArts logo & "A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away..." set to the 20th Century Fox fanfare. It just wouldn't feel to the audience like a real contribution to the series.

I couldn't disagree more, Original Bamfer. Nell brings up a great point that hasn't been touched upon lately. I know I would be disappointed if it didn't open with Xavier's monologue and Cerebro's doors. I would also like another voice over at the end (like Jean's in X2), but, hey, that's just me.

Congrats on 3k, Aiden :)
The idea of zooming from Cerebro to Xavier/Erik's hubcap is highly likely, since we've heard that will be one of the first scenes... Angel in 1985 would be too young to have grown his wings, so it makes sense they'd start with the Jean Grey sequence.
Don't worry, Spidey, I'm sure we won't be disappointed by lingering yellow X's :)

Well, no, but it's nice to remain true to form... why have the same type of intro for the first two movies and then change it? It works just fine, and people seem to like it.

no, that would be terrible, if they had a CGI opening after a vioce over....and then BAM outta nowhere a gay marvel logo...thats just not right because THEN you have a marvel logo inside the movie(started movie) wich is bad.

Well, I'd envision it more like, they do the Marvel logo, then go to the CGI intro through the "R", and then just start the movie.

Why am I worried about "THIS OF ALL THINGS"?
Because, to be quite blunt with you, there is nothing else about this production that I find to be worrysome. Some others are worried about this, that, or the other thing. But not me. I am totally confident in this movie.
But I am worried about this, because even though it is a minor detail, the minor details can sometimes have a huge impact. And it's the minor details like this that help to keep movies in a series connected, and really feel like a trilogy. Again, it's like Bond not having the gunbarrel sequence, and the theme song intros. It's like Star Wars without "A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away..." and then the intro to the story going up the screen, and off into space.
At least it's like this... the one thing I am worried about in this movie, I'll know straight away. It will be the first damned thing after the previews, so after I see the traditional opening sequence, I can breathe a sigh of relief, and enjoy the movie.
And since I'm not worried about Cyclops' fate (he'll live), I won't be watching the movie through my hands because I'm worried he's gonna eat it hardcore.

I think it would be cool to have it underwater. Lets say this: We know the opening scene is Jean's flashback. I could see the opening being underwater, lurking toward something... nothing anyone can really make out. But suddenly, an eye -right in the screen- opens and glows brightly, with a warm, red fire. Then, it could go into the eye, travel some random neuro pathways, end up in the brain -doors shut- open to flashback OR it could just go into the eye -doors shut- and open to flashback. But I think it would be cool, a underwater, Alkali CGI opening.

I don't mind them changing up the CGI sequence. That's fine.
In fact, I'm pretty sure they are probably gonna do the door slam, and claws, like they did at the end of the teaser, showcasing the logo for "X3". And I wouldn't mind that. Just as long as there is an Xavier voiceover, and the Cerebro door thing, I'll be happy.

As much as I don't think Fox is as much of the devil as everyone makes them out to be when it comes to these movies, they sure do like to force their way into a subtitle!
I didn't know that about X-Men United, I honestly just thought Bryan Singer was that uncreative when it came to titles, lol.
But it's the same case with The Last Stand. When asked about the title, Kinberg replied "Is that the title? It wasn't myself, Zak, or Brett" (answering the question of who came up with the title), so it was obviously Fox.

It matters, because I need something to ***** about.
I can't ***** about Cyclops' death, because I've never believed that it would happen, and I still don't.
I can't ***** about the runtime, because I don't think it will ruin the movie.
I guess I could ***** about no-Gambit, but that's soooooooooo last year :p
So I ***** about the intro. Because I think this movie is gonna be great. But this is, maybe a small detail, but one of those small details that makes a large difference. It's all about making it feel like it's part of the same series, and part of doing that is keeping things like trademark opening sequences.

See, Fox? See what you've done? We're desperate, man. :o

I think they'll try their best to keep the consistency between all three films, so, whatever they decide to "add" to whatever's been established, I'm pretty sure it'll be something minor that I won't mind..

Now that I've thought about it, they better not change the intro too much. I never really liked them X1 and X2 intros b/c I wanted to see the beginning right away, but it sort of gives the movie a slow-pacing feeling into the beginnin. I'm really liking the idea of the Cerebro door cutting to Xavier/Erik's hubcap.
Also, has it been confirmed that Beast will or won't be Xavier/Erik's driver?

I agree that it would be a shame if they altered the opening. But is the X opening as recogansable as the 007 opening, Spider-Man's final swing, Superman orbit etc? Will it matter to the general audience? Should this be such a big concern in comparison to the other worries we have with this film. I think not.

What other worries? I have no other worries.
Except for your recent revelation that Scott Madej WAS up for the role of Gambit.
That's 2 people now who auditioned.

I don't recall the camera zooming through the "R" in other Marvel movies, I just remember the logo fading out.
I don't think we should rely on that too much...I remember how the FOX logo in the X2 trailer was all metallic and turn into squares, similar to how Cerebro breaks apart in the into to the final film...
I'm really doubting that they'd change much to the beginning of the movie. They'll likely keep the lingering 'X', the Cerebro doors, the Xavier monologue and all that..

I hope you're right.
I know they will fade out the "X" on Fox last. Penn I believe it was, confirmed it already.
I'm just worried about Kinberg's comments, about trying to make it unique.
If unique just means their CGI sequence, then that's fine. But if it means getting rid of the voiceover, and the Cerebro doors, I'll be disappointed.
