View Full Version : How would you like the movie to end? Cliffhanger or not?
Ok, my first thread in the Superman boards.
I did a kinda thorough search and saw nothing like this, so I hope no one gets mad :o
Anyways, I'm much more of a Batman fan (Begins was just perfect for me) but the more I see the pictures, teaser trailer and behind the scenes stuff, the more I get excited about Superman Returns. I mean, Jesus, I even had a dream about watching the new trailer (then I met this hot Milf with her daughter, and well, you know... :o )
So anyways, I'm pretty much prepared to love SR, I'm sure Singer is going to do a hell of a job, but here's my question to you guys....
How would you like the movie to end?
I guess most of you saw the Batman Begins ending and the very nice hint at you know who, so I wonder if something like that would work for Superman Returns.
I was thinking something along the lines of Superman in space, checking out the earth, then noticing something, flying as fast as possible to Metropolis, then finding some kind of huge robot or something like that (don't judge me, I'm a big fan of the Fleischer cartoons :O, besides, a "generic" huge menace of sorts would work better than having an established enemy, at least in this case), and then ending the movie.
You know, it would show the kind of stuff that Superman would have to deal with now, since I'm pretty positive he won't really get a tough (strength wise) enemy in Superman Returns.
So what do you think?

I think SR should have more "to be continued" end than just happy end.
And this end should be strong and serious. Superman will have some doubts about his way of living, it would be intersting storyline for Superman and his doubts about our world.
But his doubts will have consequences in sequel. It will be great to see him as just character with doubts, not Jessus, who didn't have any doubts about us.
Superman isn't new Jessus, he is another hero saving us every day.
But he should have doubts, it is normal for him.

I want it to end exactly the way the Reeves Movies did only with Routh in place. No other ending needed. Or they can do their own Space Scene Version but definitely end it the way they did with the Reeves Movies

Definately a BB style ending. Perhaps something like X1 scene with magneto and xavier in that plastic prison. Im shure that's more what Singer whould have up his sleeve.

I see it ending with Superman in space and thinking about our strange world and his doubts about us.
That would b eperfect end.

I think it would be interesting if at the beginning of the movie, in a Metropolis that has since long forgotten Superman, you see a crime or someone in peril and they do not shout for Superman nor expect him.
At the end, however, you see Superman hovering high over Metropolis, his eyes closed, and he listens. We see in Metropolis, someone is in trouble. But they shout for Superman this time. He opens his eyes as he hears the distress call and zips towards down to save the person.

The only thing pointing toward a sequel that I'd want to see would be something like a reference to John Corbin or Milton Fine somewhere near the end of the film. I prefer the ending to be conclusive with Supes flying over the planet that he that he calls home.

Wasn't it stated sometime ago on this forum that the ending shot was the one from the teaser with him hovering over earth and listening then doing the sonic boom?

I want Singer to develop SUperman as character, to make another line for him.
It would be great.
Jessus didn't have doubts, but SUperman will.

It's speculation, but a pretty good one. It's kind of an update of the whole 'Superman patroling the skies high above us' Reeve style ending.

I want Returns to have some sort of cliffhanger, preferably with hints of Brainiac, but it should conclude the main storylines (Luthor's plans, the kid, Lois and Superman getting back together).
I think it would be kinda cool to have Superman talk about there always being things that will threaten Earth and the humans and that he will be there to help and protect them in the future. Then we zoom out into space to an alien spacecraft with kryptonian symbols on it. The engines starts and the ship move towards Earth. We go inside and see some sort of big computer mainframe and then cut to the credits.

cliff hangar movies are pretty boring...
it's like handing in half an essay,
besides the sequels are never as good or warrant the said cliffhangar.

After the ammount of waiting we have had for this movie..i don't think our fragile minds could handle three years of waiting to see what happens..
but sure why not.

I was discussing this in another thread, I think this would be a terrific ending, showing he is watching over all of us.
It think just before that we should see some type of reference as Batman Begins and the Joker card gave us. This way Returns could be a stand alone movie or set up for a sequel, sooner or later.
The scene with Superman hovering above earth is taken heavily influenced by the Abrams Flyby script. There was a similar scene with Superman listening and hearing the cries for help.

ya,I to want a cliffhanger ending.Supes solves first problem, and it ends with either Brainiac, or Doomsday, making an apperance, sitting up a sequel.

No cliffhanger please. Because if they set it up with a villain and they decided not to use that villain in the sequel then it will look rediculous. Make it like spidey I say DAMMIT.

Yeah spidey is overrated I agree with you on that but if they use the same formula as the spiderman movies they can stand a chance of making good BO numbers and thats exactly what WB wanted from day one $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

Amen MJ...
Simple ending with a hint of what's to come...that should be the standard, kind of like a "next time on, The Adventures of Superman...tune in for the next episode" type stuff
All this stuff about doubts and fears...that judt doesn't seem Superman...yes he has doubts and such (For Tomorrow proved that), but when it comes down to it, he NEVER doubts that he's trying to do the right thing...no second guessing, just doing what's right and let the cards fall where they may (like he is/was through Infinate Crisis) :supes:

Is the waffles option a reference to Invader Zim? That's the only thing I could think of ("Zim eats Waffles"). I'm split as to whether I want a cliffhanger or traditional ending. I assumed that the shot of Superman in the teaser was the new ending of Superman Returns. But I wouldn't be adverse to a cliffhanger . . . as long as it was good! Brainiac, anyone? :)

Leading in would be great, but no "cliffhanger" like Matrix reloaded.
Cliffhanger would probably be ruined by spoilers anyway.

I want a stand alone movie with just a hint of a possible future villian but not a complete cliffhanger. Kinda like Batman Begins.
Well............
Whatever the Superman / Lois / Richard White relationship is, that triangle is nicely resolved, Superman has saved the day again and Lois tells Superman that she understands why he had to leave Earth, and that indeed the world needs a hero. This closing dialogue takes place on the roof of the Daily Planet. After several minutes of Lois / Superman
signature clever repartee, perhaps with Lois including quotes from Clark Kent, (ala the apartment scene from STM ) Superman says goodnight; floats up off the roof and into the air above the Metropolis streets where the populace looks up and smiles as Superman soars above them. He angles up gaining speed, passing a plane in which the pilot and passengers wave to him as he passes, he travels through clouds illuminated by a striking sunset until he enters the upper reaches of the atmosphere on the very edge of space where of course he levels off and delivers the Man of Steel's trademark smile to an applauding (hopefully) audience.
