I think his grin should be similar to what Conrad Verdit showed in the old silent movie "The Man who Laughed", which we all know how Kane got his idea for Joker's look. And like many other said, no permanent grin. :joker:

Yeah, Joker should be a giant eye looking over everyone with a ring that has special powers...
Word of advise. One thing might work for someone, but it doesn't mean it works for everyone.

i'd really like the smile to be almost a device... like when he whips it out it is perfectly timed so that everyone is simultaneously creeped out.
that'd be sweeeeet.

Totally agree with this statement, even though the guy who will be playing him is the Joker, that doesn't mean he should be smiling during the entire movie, he should act like a regular human being, with giggles, cackles, and smirks thrown in. However, they should use it to show a "he's thinking of doing something really ****ed up right now" moment......save the grins for him thinking of his big punchline, or him making his grand appearance.

He should have a HUGE JOKER GRIN....but not a PERMENANT grin like in BATMAN. He shoudl still be able to show other expressions.

Ofcourse he won't be smiling during the entire movie, or else he might aswell have a perma-grin.

Well I could see them having him acting goofy the entire film, what Im trying to say is make his character like it was in Arkham Asylum, one day Joker wakes up deciding to be a harmless playful clown, the next a wacky/insane/bonkers homicidal maniac, the next a quiet ****ed up son of a *****

^ Sigorny Weaver? Aliens was cool...
When the Joker smiles, it should be creepy. The audience should be thinking, "Jesus, what the hell is going through his mind right now?"
I'd love to see a scene were The Joker has a blank look on his face, and then suddenly curls his lips into a smile. It would be a fast, fluid motion. Creepy.

I want Joker to have a large smile, but no prosthetics. Basically, get an actor who has a large smile and use his real smile. Most current candidates have decent enough smiles.

He was actually referring to Christopher Lee's character, not the big CG eye.
And I also concur, huge smile but not a permanent one.

Joker doesn't have a pera-smile in the comics. I think thats just something that Burton thought of as an idea he got from The Man who Smiles.

JEEEEZ..... Damn, thats a stupid question.. That's like asking if Dr. Doom should have a mask on.. Or ask if Spiderman should have a mask on.. Should Batman have the Bat insignia on his chest? Should Superman have the S? Should lex Luthor be bald??? Should Hellboy be red?!?! Should the sky be blue?!?!? Are you kidding me???? are you kidding me?!?!
And what if it IS permanent? when was the last time you saw the joker frown?!?! What the hell does he need to not have it permanent??? I mean he is the clown prince of crime!!! What the hell does that say??? I mean Are you kidding me?!?!

about 200 comics.he has been seen not smileing many, many times TKJ i believe once or twice about a dozen single comics,HUSH.loads.in my eyes, the smile and the outfit are expendable a deformed perma-grin coudlw rok, soemthing that looked all burnt up and deformed perhaps with white skin and dark green hair now THATS a scary Joker.

Yeh and maybe the make up is just something he puts on too.. So he just has a weird grin.. But the Grin doesn't STAY that way.. and he puts on the makeup.. It comes off whenever he wants. Like when he goes to bed... So, then he's just another psychotic man... That likes to wear make up thats all..
You know what you are smoking?!?! you better find out!!! Cause the Joker is a freek of nature! Not just mentally but physically a monstrosity. What cuts him above the rest is that that smile is STUCK! His deformities on his face shaped his consciousness... You ever check out psychologist books, or Neurology books.. you would see that when people get face lifts or whatever, their self image changes. Their psychological shape changes. They change from one personality type to another.
His make-up stays on his face. He is stuck a living clown. And ironically it fits perfectly into the kind of sick person he is. That's why its so damn funny for him. Why the world and all of life is so funny. All one big cruel Joke!!!!!!
Let me change your face and make you smile forever, and you will see how much of a big fat cruel joke this life really is!

Well, I dunno about you guys, but I've been grinning the entire time I've been reading this thread - it's not that hard. You guys are hilarious - in the good way.
Anyhoo - yeah, I agree the smile should be a weapon. Joker gets off with black humour, if he's smiling all the time his power is diluted.
