That's the great thing about both of these new formats: not only do both Blu-ray and HD DVD both play regular DVDs, they will also upconvert your DVDs to near-HD quality. :) So you don't have to "start over" with your collection, as every single one of your DVDs will work in an HD DVD or Blu-ray player.

Sanyo,Magnavox ect.. (the generic brands) are making Blu-Ray players,so they'll be much cheaper this x-mas. I use my PS3 to watch Blu-Ray films,and rent them through netflix,I own about 7 or so far.

They'll work on non-HDTVs, but you obviously won't be getting the HD picture. You can still get the better sound (provided you have the sound equipment) and all the extra capabilities of the discs/players. Just no HD picture.

Also, there are "combo" HD DVD discs, which have the standard DVD on the flip-side. This means that you could actually start your HD DVD collection NOW, even though you don't have an HD DVD player, and once you finally drop the dough on a player, you'll already have some HD DVDs in your collection! :)

Also, once you do have an HD DVD player, those combos will allow you to use those discs anywhere where there's no HD DVD player available, such as a bedroom, a family vehicle, or at a friend's house. :) Sure they cost about $5 more than non-combo discs, but for the added portability, IMO it's well worth it.

Blu-ray does not have this feature.

It's a great movie with some very funny moments (though it never reaches "Bruce Almighty" hilarity) and a very cool (and very expensive) climax.

This movie cost a TON to make compared to the usual comedy, because of all the effects in the movie and such, and unfortunately because it didn't make a profit in the theater, it's is only because it was such a huge amount to make up. It still did very very well for a comedy in theaters, and I'm willing to bet it's doing great on disc, too.

About 150 bucks. I am really reserved when it comes to buying movies on any format as my cash flow isn't that high. I mean, I have about 25-28 movies before I went nuts today and bought a whole bunch that I basically did a lot of DVD trading for and got several for free so I haven't really spent much on movie buying until now. I've been saving up some Christmas money for gifts which I dipped into but I'll replace it. I just couldn't pass up getting those movies at 12.50-15 bucks a pop when they are usually double that price. Shoot, I got Transformers for 15 bucks...a brand new release. I may buy a couple more but then I'm tapped out for a good while. lol. But it was fun shopping. :woot:

Well, it's really supposed to be Blu-ray only, but it seems CC has had some glitch and therefore the deal works on all HD DVD's that are 29.99 or less. It should last through the week as long as they don't correct the glitch or "unadvertised sale."

I was hoping to find Pitch Black and Dragonheart but none of the CC's I went to have it.

Yeah, if you go, just take two HD DVD's 29.99 or less and ask if they can scan it and see if it's BOGO. The cashier is supposed to press some button for the deal to go through, which they usually do. It's a great opportunity since sales for HD DVD don't come often.

I just hope that the "I payed $35 for this" was also part of a cover, because I'd never pay for a homemade disc that I could make myself. It's not even about the quality (or lack thereof) of the movie, but someone trying to make a quick buck off of you by making you think you're paying for something that's legit when it really isn't.
