It's a MMO game you have to connect to the server if you want to edit your characters. To develop a character and do missions you have to pay. To use any of the games content you gotta pay. It's the way they work.

Haven't been on my hero for a while, and am slowly getting back into playing my villain. Oblivion has been keeping me away from this game pretty much completely in the past month...I'm ready to go back. Especially with Issue 7 coming sometime soon!


I do still have some characters on the Virtue server. I just haven't touched him in over a year.

I've been playing since CoH came out and CoV when it was in beta. Almost all of my characters are on the Liberty server. Most are women too, I figured that if I'm going to look at something for hours at a time I want it to be a hot woman's butt. World of Warcraft has distracted me a bit but I still go back and play with my girls. :venom:

Heros: Saffire, Gold-Rush, Shriek, G'laxia, Vanilla Shake, and the Deadly Mantis.
Villains: Crazy Coyote, Xarak the Unholy, Disgust, Fright-mare, Queen Fire Ant and Hottie McBody.

I have a few heros scattered about on other servers as well but I almost never even bother with them.

The Union server is one of the english servers (there are 2) in Europe.

A tanker is one of the hero archtypes and a mastermind one of the villain archtypes.

Your hero/villain advances through the game through gaining experience, and at each milestone you gain a lvl giving you an extra power or an enhancement to your current powers.

There are 50 lvls to the game and I have 2 lvl 50s

You need to be online as it is a game where you need to intereact with others. There are many missions and several different types of villains, plus many archetypes which all have a different play style.

For every "arrest" (which looks like you killed the character), you get XP points, plus you get a bonus for completing a mission. Each level requires an increasing amount of XP points to level. There are 50 levels.

You get new powers at levels 1,2,4,6,8,10,12,14,16,18,20,22,24,26,28,30,32,35,3 8,41,44,47,49

At every other level you get enhancement slots which allow you to improve your existing powers.

Been playing since the start and have 2 accounts. my main server is Virtue. Virtue is the unofficial RP server. The character that I play is Arbor Hawk. Arbor is a homage to Hawkgirl. Also have a homage to a elseworlds female Flash, and Solomon Grundy.

It can be a grind but some points of the game can be fun. the only thing is you have to choose the right type of character to suit your game play.

Well the thing is, for the best alll around experience I would suggest paying a scrapper or tanker. that way you can solo easily as wel as play in teams.

Also, do not hesitate to form your own teams and if you can join an active SG.

I just made my return back to City of Heroes after being gone for a year and a half. It is nice to see that all the Super Groups I started before I left are now top ranking groups. I am really proud of the Paragon City Justice League; I stated them right before I left the game with a friend of mines and now they are doing great.

I do not find it that expensive at €70 for 6 months. Where I play which is iin Europe, there are generally always people online. And P vs P zones exists where villains and heroes can fight each other.

You will not get a travel power before lvl 14 but make sure you choose a pre-travel power by lvl 12.

And the first 10 levels should be pretty fast.

Your toon looks buff enough but in game I have no idea as I do not know what powers you have. If you want a good idea just visit the city of heroes forums. You have good guides for all archetypes.

One thing though, if you go with fly then take air superiority instead of hover.

And you can change your costume later on in the game.

By the way, you can get a cape at lvl 20.

The most durable types are tankers and the most damage dealing are blasters but their duraibilty is a question.

No that name sounds good. Energy is not too bad but I have not much experience playing blasters. Even though, they cause the biggest damage in the game, they die pretty easily.

I have a couple of heroes on the Justice server. The first is Colonel Midnight, a level 25 scrapper. The other is Agent Anodyne, a level 25 empathy-defender. It's funny. I originally made Agent Anodyne because I wanted to make a female hero for the hell of it. Now it turns out I love healing more than anything else in the game.

I don't have the patience for healing. All the ADD kids who run into battle and het themselves killed always wanna blame the healers for their death.

Yeah, I always aim my buffs at those idiots. When they die, I concentrate on healing the rest of the team, and wait until the current field is clear of enemies before reviving them.

By the by: Kids, if you're a blaster, stay the hell away from the middle of the fray. Just stand on the outside and shoot at things, like the defenseless little things you are.

I'm a born blaster. I play my toon smartly though by flying in the air and shoot till I pass out.

Tanking is pretty simple. You have to auto taunt and jump around hitting once, then find a tight corner and herd them there.

During I4, I had lots of fun getting my inv/ss tank to 50 doing it. Then again it was a very uber build I had.

And in tanking don't forget you are a tank that can hit back, especially if you take invulnerable. It is however very different from being a blaster.

I've never tried being a tanker. I'm too used to the hit-run tactics of a scrapper, and the long distance attacking of a defender. I just can't see myself standing there and daring the bad guys to give me their best shots.

Then again, I hear you can level up super-fast with a tanker, as you can usually take on enemies 2 levels higher than you.

I do. My main *who is a mere lvl 16 Empath* is on Guardian.

As for healing, I adore it.

I've only once or twice gotten on bad teams, and I tell them straight up that if they charge in without the group I'll let them die. :o

I rarely get complaints about teammates dying. Not because they don't die, but because I always keep a couple of spare rez inspirations on me, have that dandy Resurrection power, and always teleport their corpses to safety. My teammates don't stay dead for long... unless I'm also dying.

It's not the dying most people complain about, it's the debt. My lvl 50 has a fair amount of debt on him but who cares at that point.

That is funny but the reality is that there are only few very good healers and as people do not realise who is healing them at any single moment they automaticall thank the empath asuming it has to be him/her.

Not for me. I used to watch TV on my bed while the tank herded the ninjas and did slow damage with his fiery AOE. The healer healed him when need be. The rest of kinda hung out and got power leveled :D

From like level 38-50 are some of the most boring times of the game for me.

my friend got banned for 2 week, because for fun he would teleport his team mates high off of buildings and then drop them in high level bad guys. The high fall would give them little health and all badguys needed was to hit the player once and they would die. lol he killed at least a dozen players while doing this.

he got an email from the mods, and they said he was banned for killing players againt their will, LOL

And then evertime I was doing a Dreck for some people and broadcast I would get 20 tells asking if they could join....and almost asking if I had a sk for them :(

I always refused though to dreck more then once or twice per session.

But man thos days as a inv/ss tank, it was so easy. Unless we were getting psych dmg, the health bar would not move.

I've never really needed to rely on a healer if my ass was in trouble. Phase Shift was always my life saving move. Pissed me off when they nerfed the heck out of it and limited it to 30 secs.

My thing is that I love to be a healer.

I'm not into the fighting classes, unless it's kinetics or dark, and even then I find myself healing rather than actually fighting.

As for the Base thing..I bought the two-for-one game that came with CoV and CoH and I only have to pay one monthly fee to play both. ^_^

I'm not really into close range fighting. I like to stand/hover a good distance away and shock things(elec/elec blaster :D) and be able to run away or phase if things get ugly. I know it sounds cowardly but I'm squishy :(

I have a lvl 50 (levels range from 1 to 50) invulnerable / super strength tanker (set that can take the most damage but is slower), a lvl 50 Ninja Mastermind (a set that uses henchman to fight and is a villain) and a lvl 40 Martial Arts / Regeneration (Wolverine type regeneration except not as effective) Scrapper (highest damage dealing for melee characters) and then I have a whole lot of other types.

I had not played for a month and I tried my scrapper yesterday. I died twice because I forgot to self heal myself :(

I bought the COH/COV good verses evil addition yesterday. I play world of warcraft also and it play ok but my graphics card isnt top of the line by any means. I pop in COH and play a bit and it runs quite obviously not the way it should and the game looks nothing like it does on the box. So my card must be the only thing holding me back from this game. When I try to go say into the sewers the enviroment blinks and stuff its so wierd, like everything goes out of existence for a split second but it happens every 3 sec so you cant get past it. I dropped $30.00 on this ***ker and can barely play it. When WoW plays fine but then again the graphics are different.

First thing is you have to know what video card you have. Are you sure it's an ATI card? If so what model?

With mine it's an ATI Radeon x1650. I go to ATI's site (who recently merged with AMD heh), click on drivers and software at the top right, from here you click on what operating system you use. I use Windows XP service pack 2 myself so I click on it (chose home or professional), then on the next list I choose Radeon, then my model which is x1650. You download the drivers, then you uninstall your old drivers, you should be able to through control panel. Then restart, and personally I go in safe mode, and then you install the new drivers and you're done.

If you don't have an ATI card, or you just can't find your models number then google, whatever your card's name and model number is and put "drivers" after it. Even old drivers aren't the hardest to find, someone on some site should have your cards drivers.

The other problem is you may not have a good enough card to play the game, or you may be trying to play the game in a resolution your card or monitor can't handle. What's your monitor's maximum resolution? There usually is a .cfg file for a game in a data or the main folder, check it and see what resolution it's set to, and you can change it there.

If that doesn't help you then give more info about your card and computer, and one of us can try to help more. One last question tho, did your card come with a drivers cd or dvd? If so that may tell you your card type and model right there.

I've already quit the game tho, it is fun, but it was barely holding my attention before the free month I got with CoH/CoV 2-pack ran out so today's my last day on it. I just switched to one of the busier servers (Freedom), and made a new character. He's an Illusion/Kinetics controller named Mystic Practitioner. I swear, if CoH had a name field large enough, I'd make a hero with a ridiculously long name, like one of DC's Great Ten. Accomplished Perfect Physician is the best name for a superhero I've heard in years.

Are good places to check and see what's in your range. I got an x1650 IceQ Radeon card (huge ass cooling fan on it lol, this thing wouldn't overheat in a desert) for around $125 with shipping from directron.com. It got me over 30 fps in CoH steadily, even in crowds. It easily handles WoW, and gave me a 15 FPS boost in CS: Source over my old card. There are a lot there so check thru both sites for the cheapest price with the most power.

I been playing since day one, got my 39th vet reward today. Hmm what can i say about the game other then i really enjoy it. I also have WoW and Guild Wars but always come back to CoV/CoH. I have a ton of heroes (about 30) and 1 villain. The game can get a little stale but they all can at some point, it's really up to the player to change things up to keep it interesting. Doesn't hurt to be a superhero nut as well :)

yeah but the sad thing is they raped a few of my characters that I seamlessly recreated. I had a villian that was an exact replica if not for a few minor face details like The Joker. He was a master mind that uses poison and thugs and also had pistols. Needless to say I was pissed when I logged on one day to see that his name was changed to "Generic 000 000 0012543" or some ****.

well thats where I ****ed up, becuase I tried every nickname for him I could remeber from the comics that would fit in the space so I eventually just called him Jokler. Yeah I know it sounds wierd but technically its different. So after that I decided to make another MM called "The Ghastly Grinner" from this show I watched back in the early 90's called "Are You Afraid of the Dark". Hes basically a Joker type guys who laughs people to death but not in the traditional way with gas or poison, it's more like hypnosis.

Villains and Heroes is nearly identical in game play, but Heroes is better because the villain areas suck.

You can't copy either in name or appearance any copyrighted toon in existence, having said that though i use Freedom as my DC server. I don't use their names and the costumes aren't exact but there is no mistaking who they represent.

I played it for a while, but it got very boring after a month or so. I had the joint hero/villain expansion, and I paid for a three month subscirption, and stopped playing before it ran out.


I find all MMO's have that curse, you really have to put your mind into it to keep it active or just have a love of the game to keep it going.

I wouldn't say it's boring, probably no different then Heroes,however for me i have 30 heroes and 1 villain, i just like being the good guy tho my one Villain is a kick@55 MM
