Man, after seeing that danger room/sentinal clip, I hope that wasn't a money shot. I just dont want MORE bitter X-men fans bashing this film because it wasn't rushed and the FX are flawless. The Collossus morph and walk from behind looked pretty, well, cheap. and you know that people are going to say it is supposed to look like that because it's the Danger Room.

I mean, now Superman fans now got a taste of Superman flying, and that was the main thing he needed to do and look good doing it. And it looked really damn good.

Exactly! That's the thing, I want the X-Men movie to be SOOOOO good because I 1) am a great fan generally of the actors involved 2) love the X-Men and 3) love the X-Men movie trilogy.

I will be furious if they drop the ball. They were practically handed a movie on a plate by Bryan Singer -- the entire story insinuated, same actors, etc. if Penn and Kinberg managed to have blown it with writing and Ratner with direction, I hope their careers in Hollywood end.

My only faith in this movie is actuall Kinberg, whose work on Mr. and Mrs. Smith I loved.

I was thinking the exact same thing about the dialouge. It just didn't seem the same as the previous movies. When Storm told Wolverine to look out, it sounded force, and awkward. The musical score didn't really bring anything out either. I'm still going to see X-3 and I think its going to be a great movie anyways. I've been looking forward to it as well. But since Superman is my favorite comic book character, I favor it a bit more.

That was some the weakest Flying Sequences in Film History.
But the Flying in the ad does bother me. Maybe because those aren't showning Supes More graceful Flying Moments. i just hope that there are moments where we can se Superman Flying Gracefully Like in the Donner Films.

The FX on this movie are definately raised. They knew a lot had to go into this with it being Superman. YOu can see at close look, a few small things like that, but as you said, its still very good.

I´ve had that feeling for a long time, but now I have little doubt SR will be better... Not that I´m negative about XM:TLS but the vibe from SR is simply superior. Seeing Supes fly on screen with everything modern technology can do will be the talk of the day, like Spidey´s webswinging was in the first Spidey movie.

Here's my thoughts on the commercial...

- The only reaon people think it looks like the matrix is because he's flying down a street with cars.
- You can feel the wind as he flies
- Routh pulls off the flying perfectly (for those few seconds that we see). He looks as calm and relaxed as someone who's been flying for years. He also has the moves down nicely.

Ive been one of the less impressed members of the board with SR but i always maintained i was objective and open to liking it and this 8 seconds is the first thing to really make me hyped for the movie

I love the clip/ad,but I hope thta in the movie we get a lot of shots in which we see supes flying not so fast so we can see him bank and fliy gracefully, and lots of shots of him from behind passing through buildings and the cape flapping,and of course we most get some shots of supes flying by the camera like that shot in the teaser of him taking off,and imagine a shot like the one in STM were supes flies for the first time in the fortress of solitude and he flies by the camera, imagine a shot like that but with today's wirework and fx:)

I havent seen any hammering, ive only seen praise for SR over in the xmen boards so far. If its in the "wolverine vs sentinel" thread though i have no idea because I am staying well clear of it, discussion in there has just been plain rediculous since last night.

Cant wait to see the trailer, its a long time coming :up: Singer did a great job with X Men and I hope Superman fans are as happy with his work as xmen fans are :) :up:

yup.....admittedly, i can't be 100% sure because no one REALLY knows, but i have a bit of experience and knowledge in the field. if that's a CGI Superman/Brandon Routh....it's a DAMN good model with some DAMN good animation, but i don't see a shot like that having to use a CG Superman. especially since he's in such clear view.

but i could always be wrong ;)

Several things, IMO. Bad dialogue ("don't get your panties in a bunch"), bad acting (what's with Hugh's accent??), terrible SFX from what I can tell, (Colossus looks worse than the liquid metal SFX from T2), and just sloppy direction (Wolverine rides the head to the ground???). The thing just looks cheap.

And the music sounds like generic temp track crap, which I hope it is. They need real music!

Its not very well done. I hope the blame lies mostly with bad editing.

Basically...

Dialogue is bad.
Wire work is horrible.
SFX (Colossus changing) looks bad.
The Sentinel has round White eyes yet when we see the head close up they are red and square.
The head falls to the ground and does a full spin yet Wolverine is hanging onto it and walks out from behind it (where the hell is he when it falls?)
The whole thing looks cheap.

A) you are right and there is something not right.

Okay that makes more sense. It just still doesn't look right to me for some reasonagainst the sky behind it. I think it is because they shot it for day inside. There are certain intrinsic things that happen when shooting out in the real sun that the eye, even if it doesn't know what it is, will still notice it when it isn't there that can't be faked. I can always tell when a bluescreen shot was done indoors with HIM lights, or outdoors. And the key light just looks too close to him than the Sun would actually be, which is what they are replicating. Matte World and other EFX companies started realizing that in the 90's and started shooting miniatures outside in natural daylight. Even Dennis Murren knew that when working on the endor battle scenes in Return of the Jedi. I think that is what is bugging me about it. And I wonder whey they didn't shoot the daylight greenscreen shots outside since they were shooting at Fox Austrailia when they could have done it and still maintained secrecy.

And those that will say it is greenscreen so they couldn't shoot outside, they totally could. Many movies have shot greenscreen outside in Natural daylight for a while now. Titanic. King Kong. Lord of the Rings. Star Wars Prequels and Special editions are full of it. Die Hard with a Vengance is a good example of the difference, and Sony Effects worked on it. There is one greenscreen effects shot in it, outside in daylight, that they did in 5 minutes that you can't even tell is a greenscreen shot on watching the movie. There is another shot done inside and you can tell it was shot inside. If you watch the movie, I bet you could pick out the indoor shot in a heartbeat, but probably wont be able to find the outdoor shot. It is because of those things present shooting under natural daylight that are missing when you try to replicate it indoor with lights. And they could have rented a motion control base from Image G ( http://imageg.com/ ), which has done numerous exteroior motion control shots. And the rigs that Brandon is on would have made no difference If shot inside or outside.

Well I'm willing to give it a break cause it's just a stupid promotional commercial, but those flying effects sucked.

Why does that one scene end up looking like the Death Star trench? Couldn't they have come up with something better than that?

Hopefully that's just some early effects shots that will be cleaned up.

I honestly can't see how anyone could declare this either "amazing" or "crap". We see Brandon's face, then a bit of flight. All that can be said is that there don't seem to be any problems with the CGI. There is nothing unexpected here, for good or bad.

Like I said it's a promotional trailer, so I'm willing to give it a break, but that scene of Superman flying through the streets of Metropolis and then crashing through a window looks like the Death Star trench.
