I saw this while perusing the net, don't know who drew it. Don't think it's been posted here, but if it has, my sincere apologies. I think it's a pretty awesome look for Joker.

Funny . . . I also created a rendering much like that pic; I think that I likely used the same pic of Hulme for reference:

Thanks! I tried to make him look as realistic as possible . . . to make him look like the Joker with as little 'special effect' as possible. It wasn't easy, because there are only a small amount of Hulme pics for reference out there, and since most of his more well-known flicks are Indie flics out of Australia, it's hard to get good footage of him too.

I did my best to render him w/ the smiling face w/o reference, because there's just not really out there! I think showing the gums makes him look especially menacing, though . . .

ToddIsDead
04-10-2006, 05:41 PM
Yeah, it does. Very cool.

ToddIsDead

He probably does, but there's little to no pictures of him smiling...

DV8
04-10-2006, 06:05 PM
yeah . . . when I was working on this piece, I even rented the Croc Hunter movie  That's right, I'm dedicated LOL!!

There were a couple parts where he winced, but his character was very rigid, so I basically used myself as reference. I guess I didn't really notice that his teeth are probably much larger now that you mention it!

DV8
04-10-2006, 06:06 PM
wow, not to shoot myself in the foot, but his whole mouth is probably way too small for his bone structure . . . probably because I added the gums, and it made his mouth look larger than it actually is! Anyway, the small teeth make him look more sinister, so it ended up working for the piece . . . but if I worked for Warner Bros., I'd have some 'splainin to doooo'

ToddIsDead
04-10-2006, 06:07 PM
The mouth could use a little improvement, but regardless, it's still a great piece of art.

Yeah, I've posted it before . . . I wish it would come up like the other piece when you do the search on yahoo . . . I don't know how that guy got his piece to do that!! I think he's got it on more websites, and probably had the piece out there before mine . . .

Just telling the truth.

fangrl06
04-10-2006, 06:31 PM
So you're telling me there is going to be another Joker movie only this time he's all serious? Don't they have any other villains? I mean it's cool if they redo Catwoman, because she has so many different orgins and side storys and crap, but how are they going to pull off Joker twice?

ToddIsDead
04-10-2006, 06:33 PM
They'll do it like he's been done in the comics for the past 20-30 years.

After seeing these renderings, I could buy Hulme's looks for Joker, just wish I knew how he acts...

DV8
04-10-2006, 06:56 PM
yeah . . . it's hard finding his 'quality' films, which are out of Australia . . . he has all but 4 lines or so in Matrix Revolutions, and his only other 'notable' American film is the bloody 'Croc Hunter'!!!

I was just on IMDb.com, though, and he previously had NO pics available . . . now there are several . . . seems the buzz is indeed building up around him being in the running for this role . . . personally, I would really like to see him nab it . . .

ToddIsDead
04-10-2006, 06:59 PM
I prefer him over Bettany because Bettany just seems very un-Jokerish to me.

Ya know, fangrl06... Batman and Spider-Man are completely different characters. I love Spidey, too, but Batman is SUPPOSED to be serious. Spidey is a wise-ass and there is room for comedy in a Spider-Man movie. A Spider-Man movie that didn't have a few laughs in it would be way off the mark.

A Batman movie with the same number of laughs would be equally far off the mark.

There were plenty of little jokes "Batman Begins," but it was just about the right percentage where it didn't interfere with the seriousness of the movie. It's SUPPOSED to be serious.

Batman and Spider-Man are my two favorite heroes. And they could not be more different. Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2 and Batman Begins are three of my favorite movies. Each film pays its star character the proper respect.

Complete seriousness is soooo boring.

Complete seriousness? Did you miss Alfred's wise-ass remarks? Bruce's goofball behavior to disguise the fact that he's Batman? How about the crown jewel: "Planning on gassing yourself again?" "Oh, you how it is, Mr. Fox... you're out at night looking for kicks, someone's passing around the weaponized hallucinogen..."

Hell, even Batman had his little quips... "Nice coat", "Excuse me."

How about the guard at the toll booth looking at his coffee when the Batmobile goes screaming by, wondering whether or not he's got decaf, and if there was in fact whiskey in his Irish Creme...

The jokes in Begins are funny, but they're sort of dry, and toned down, buried in this dark and moody world that Batman inhabits. That's as it should be.

ToddIsDead

I agree . . . he's a big guy . . . I like that he's big, but I think he needs to get more tone . . . how ironic? Christian Bale only weighed like 100lbs. trying out for Batman, and Hulme is like 220 trying out for Joker . . . "irony can be ironic sometimes" :D

Pics dont do the man justice, watching him on film you can just see the jokerness in him. Whenever you look at him from the side he appears to he appears to have a Joker like jaw. Whenever he smiles, he has a Joker like smile. The man was simply born to play the Joker. Watch the film Gangster Number 1 - the entire film is Bettany playing the Joker sans humor and makeup.

Did you read my post, I was going to loose my argument anyway...:(

Except that you're RIGHT!!! Bettany does look more like the Joker... April Fool's day is crap. If the day of a person's birth made them right for the Joker, that person should be born on the Day of the Dead. Oh sweet irony.

However, birthdays mean nothing. Hulme does not look like Joker except in the most superficial ways. He has arched eyebrows and prominent cheekbones. His nose is pointy. Whee. Big deal. The same is true of Tony Blair.

On the other hand, Paul Bettany's "resemblance" to the Joker is in a completely different context. He does have the cheekbones, but his eyebrows are not arched. He does, however, have the cruel gleam in his eyes, the sardonic twist to his mouth, the brooding brow. Makeup can easily give anybody a long blade of a nose, and arched eyebrows. But you can't do a damn thing for a person's eyes. Either the character is in there, or it isn't. I have yet to see a picture of Hulme where I see Joker in his eyes. Whereas, even when Bettany is smiling for a magazine cover, he looks evil. :spidey:

I am confident enough in my masculinity that I can say Hulme is one handsome man. He would be great as the Joker.

As for the Bettany bull, looking at pics of the orginal Bob Kane Joker, Hulme and Bettany, Hulme looks more like the Joker. All Bettany looks like is a british guy that should be in a club somewhere snorting coke, not a Batman Villian.

Btw, reading is good.

Well thanks Keyser, It was a pleasure being on the show. I don't know what I would have done if I hadn't had my daily comment from an egotist. I'm sure my sleep would have been most restless. Still, those prizes to be had't behind curtain No. 2 still titillate my imagination. Maybe it could have been the secret casting list for BB2 or Bettany in a coke induced stupor. Quess I'll have to try harder next time.:(

Not to be hopelessly out of date here, but wasn't Christopher Ecclestion once up for this part?

I just saw him in eXistenZ and IMO he's got the look and the expressiveness to do it.

LOL!!! :)

I dunno where people get this idea that I'm an egotist - okay, well, maybe it's my cult following, but those guys do that stuff of their own accord, I had nothing to do with it, and I'm careful not to condone it, lest I look like, well, an egotist.

On the other hand... maybe people think I'm an egotist because I defend my position on nearly everything and enjoy trying to convince people of my point of view?

But that's what discussion is all about. Check out the fine print in my sig.

He was mentioned, but I don't know how seriously. As far as I know he was never more than a fan suggestion, but, I could be wrong about that.

All I've ever seen him in is "The Others," which is a great movie, but he has a smallish role in that.

Hello The-Night! Welcome to the Hype! I used to hang out at IMDb as well... it is horrible over there. It's better here, but people still post silly rumors here as well. At least you won't be the lone voice of sanity here, though.

Though you will have to endure Norman, Ronny and myself goofing off for a few hours around this time every night. :D

Howdy The-Night, as long as you are quick enough to follow Keyser,Ronny and I, you shall do alright.

Brody has a significant fan base here as well, Bowie has a following only to play the DKR Joker - not Nolans. Here you will mostly find Hulme, Bettany, Glover and Eccleston - but mainly Hulme and Bettany.

Did you get your MOH yet? Anybody who survives IMDb should get a Medal of Honor. Seriously. IMDb is the Vietnam War of messageboards. People go in there as kids, and they come out as old men, and during the time in-between, they see and do things that they never wish to speak of again.

hey also how do I post a pic here I think there is one that many of you would like to see

If the pic is already hosted someplace on the internet, all you need to do is put image tags around it - ex: "your picture's URL here"

If your pic isn't hosted and you don't know how to host it, go to www.photobucket.com (http://www.photobucket.com) or www.imageshack.com (http://www.imageshack.com) and sign up. It's free, and you can host your pics there.

Also when you're on the "Reply to Thread" screen there's a yellow icon of a mountain and a sun, that's the "Post Picture" button... that'll automatically set up your image tags, all you gotta do is provide the URL.

StorminNorman
04-12-2006, 12:22 AM
If the pic is already online then simply copy/paste onto the boards. If it is on your PC - upload it on photobucket or something of the sort, and then copy/paste.

In regards to previous posts about whether Lachy is a big fella. He's definitely not.

Keanu Reeves is about the same height as Lachy and he's MUCH larger when you see them next to each other.

To check out Lachy's cheekiness and Aussie humour, check out the movie "Lets get Skase". Small film he co wrote in Australia in 2000, not the best, but goo for a laugh.

Since I´m not familiar with Hulme´s work as an actor, I´m gonna hold any judgement till I see something where he has a relevant part, specially if it bares resemblance to Joker. I just trust Nolan will make the right choice.

Who gives a damn about who looks most like the Joker!?!?! With prosthetics and makeup, anyone can look like the Joker. It's the performance that matters.

Do you think Nolan is going to go out and look for a guy who looks the most like the Joker and give him the role?

Hulme's look in no way over powers Bettany's for me. Between the two I am leaning more towards Bettany because I've seen alot more of him however neither would be my first pick.

Well chances are that he is, remember that just a couple of months ago Bettany said he had not even been talked about for the role? I'm sure bettany is in the race, but something tells me that he is going to be a bit too famous after the Da Vinci code! I mean after all BOF annouced that chancs are a low profile actor has a great chance of getting the rle unless the studio really begs Nolan to get a name star and Bettany by no means is a low-profile actor.

No, Bettany said there have been no OFFICIAL talks. However Bettany also said while promoting Firewall that "if things go well, I may be playing a villian in a comic book movie after the Davinci Code".

Bettany's role in the Da Vinci Code will be over shadowed by Tom Hanks and Ron Howard - those are the names that will be associated with the movie. Bettany will not be a star, even if the Da Vinci Code does very well - he will be slightly more famous than Bale was when he was cast as Bruce Wayne. I think thats perfect.

How is ron howard going to overshadow the movie? sure he's directing it but the general audience doesent know who he is.Besides Bettany plays the main villian and a pale skined one at that. Usally in great movies there are two things that people remeber.....The Hero and The Villian.

Can I have link to where Bettany said that?

I still don't see what people see in Bettany. To me, he looks nothing like the Joker. And Gangster #1, the movie that everyone tells you to watch to see Bettany play something Jokeresque, didn't impres me in the slightest. And the fact that people keep whoring him blindly on here, puts me off even more. I'm not saying that I'm all for Hulme, because I'm not sure about him either, but to me, he reminds me of the Joker just a bit more.

I am not "whoring him blindly" I have seen every movie staring Paul Bettany I can find and I am more impressed everytime. I was concerned about his accent at first - accent fears are gone after seeing hte movie Dogville and Firewall. I feared he was a very cold guy, someone who would not do comedy well - that fear also went away after watching him in interviews and what not where the guy is just a likeable, fun guy. Any look issues I had went away after Keyser's Manip.

Most people had not heard of Christian Bale pre-Batman Begins, or atleast enough for them to recognize him. Bettany will be the same way. He is a respected, young, rising talent who is a block buster role or two away from stardom. I see the Joker being that role.

I really doubt that - for one the Joker makeup will change Paul appearance. I am sure they will add length to nose and chin - add in the white makeup, green hair, ruby lips and you have the Joker - not Paul Bettany. Not when one of those characters is a classic American icon. Even the general audience knows who the freakin' Joker is. White skin, green hair, and that big red smile. People will know it's not the same guy from The Da Vinci Code.
