View Full Version : The Spider-Man 3 FAQ Thread

Here is a list of FAQ that frequent the Spider-Man 3 (spoiler) forum. Since we would like to cut down on these repetitive questions showing up as new threads, I have decided to create this thread to deal with that problem.
There are two parts to this thread. The first part will list the most common questions that seem to come up, the remainder of thread is for anyone to post a general question about Spider-Man 3.
I would like to take a moment to thank Electroflare for the concept of this thread. He started a similiar thread, but it was agreed that more detail would be required.
Spider-Man 3 details

When will we get the first teaser?
UPDATE June 15, 2006
Sony Pictures was originally targeting Talladega Nights" (http://www.superherohype.com/news/spider-mannews.php?id=4002): The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, but recent reports and information have changed this plan and the teaser will apparently run with Superman Returns.
SHH was first to report a fan provided information that the teaser will be released with Superman Returns.
http://superherohype.com/news.php?id=4319
This was later confirmed by information provided by AICN (http://www.aintitcool.com/display.cgi?id=23602) and JoBlo (http://www.joblo.com/index.php?id=11737).
Whats the budget?
The cost of the movie will be approximately $250 Million. Reportedly, it will be the highest cost for a movie ever released.

UPDATE 5/15/06(Thanks cmill)
Escalating special effects costs have boosted the budget of Sony's Spider-Man 3, scheduled for release on May 4, 2007, to between $250 million and $300 million, the Wall Street Journal reported over the weekend, citing people close to the studio
SOURCE (http://studiobrf.newshare.com/) SOURCE (http://imdb.com/news/sb/2006-05-15/)
When did filming start?
Filming started in January, 2006, while certain preliminary test photography began in September, 2005.

On "possible" length of filming:SOURCE (http://www.superherohype.com/news/spider-mannews.php?id=3752)
What is the film about?
An Official synopsis has not been announced by Sony. The expected date for that announcement is TBA.
Sam Raimi Quotes on Spider-Man 3:
I can't tell you anything. I've been sworn to secrecy. All I can tell you is that we're going to see the next progression in the growth of Peter Parker as a human being. He's really just a boy, on his way to becoming a responsible young man. He still has a lifetime of lessons in front of him.SOURCE (http://www.superherohype.com/news/spider-mannews.php?id=2335)
Spider-Man 3 will concentrate more on further developing the last two films' stories:
With two stories under his belt and a divergence from the comic books now clearly delineated, Raimi is looking more now to wrap up the strands of the first two movies than remain tied to Stan Lee’s original narratives. "I think the audience has been tracking this love story with Mary Jane Watson [Kirsten Dunst] and Peter Parker, and now they're together. The way they got together and the reality of the movies is slowly becoming more dominant of a guiding force than the books, just because so many unique things have been set up in the movies that have now got to be completed in the third part, that there's a demand to do that."
SOURCE (http://www.superherohype.com/news/spider-mannews.php?id=2276)
"[Peter is] going to try to move to the next phase of his life, the next stage, young adulthood, and he's going to now be dealing with issues of self-esteem and how he can carry on a relationship, which is much more complex than having an occasional date with some woman and not revealing all of your secrets to her,"

UPDATE June 12, 2006
Spider-Man Day!!!
Somewhere during the movie will be a scene involving a celebration of Spider-Man. One set report has stated it was because he saved Gwen Stacy, although this is still speculative.
There are several pictures of kids in Spider outfits, balloons, a stage with a "Thank You Spider-Man" going across, and Kirsten Dunst (MJ), Bryce Dallas Howard (Gwen), Tobey Maguire (Peter), Topher Grace (Eddie), James Cromwell (Captain Stacy) and of course Spider-Man, have all been shown around this scene. Please visit the picture thread for more information.
A death?
Recent pictures have shown Tobey Maguire (Peter) and James Cromwell (Captain Stacy) in a cemetary. All other actors have yet to appear in this interesting scene, but it leaves without a doubt that there will be a death. It could be similiar to Spider-Man 1 where Willem Dafoe's Character (Norman Osborn/GG) had died at the ending, or it could be anywhere in the middle.
Rumours have been pointing towards Mary Jane, Harry Osborn, or Aunt May as the ones dying, but it is all speculation at this point.
Will there be any further sequels after Spider-man 3?
There is strong evidence that there will be 6 movies in total. SOURCE 1 (http://www.superherohype.com/news/spider-mannews.php?id=2949)

CHARACTERS
Who are the villains?
So far, Sandman has been the only villain "Officially" anounced by Sony. However there have been several confirmations by crew and production members that Venom is in the movie.
UPDATE June 13, 2006
Oral confirmation from THC that Venom is in the movie and apparently looks similiar to the comic version.

UPDATE June 12, 2006
Topher Grace is Eddie Brock...
As the sun went down and about 100 Spidey flying takes they moved over to the side of the stage where Gwen was preparing her speech on giving Spidey the "key to the city" only to be stopped by the not so shy Daily Bugle Photographer Eddie Brock (badge on Topher confirms he is Eddie a Daily Bugle photographer!) He stops taking her picture and asks her if he could see her tonight. Shy and bashful she said "oh no EDDIE not tonight"
Eddie discouraged asked her about "Last Night" where Gwen politely says.. "We just had coffee Eddie" Then Eddie mentions a kiss from last night which Gwen blushes and then is pulled away by the Mayor. Eddie looks confused!!

A Goblin by any other name will still be a Goblin...
Goblin has been confirmed in this video clip as direction mention it in instructions. OF course this still doesn't confirm Harry is the Goblin, or if this is the "Green" goblin.

UPDATE June 6, 2006
Brief interview with Avi Arad confirms an unheard of 4 villains for Spider-Man 3.
iF: There are four villains this time, Venom, Sandman, and Green Goblin and when is the fourth going to be revealed?
ARAD: Right we have four villains. Pretty soon [we’ll reveal the fourth villain] I believe. Maybe around Comic Con we’ll reveal something and the madness will begin.

Will Spider-Man be wearing the black suit in this third installment?
Yes! There has been one Official picture released by Sony that shows Spider-Man in the black suit. However, recent shootings in Cleveland have shown that he will be wearing the famous red and blue suit as well.
RANDOM SPIDER-MAN 3 FUN FACTS
Culver City, Calif.-based Sony Pictures Imageworks also announced refinements in its digital human R&D. During the same panel, Sony Pictures Imageworks president Tim Sarnoff reported that the company's work in this area is "so far advanced beyond "Spider-Man 2," which is now two-year-old technology." He said that moviegoers will see far more complex digital actors in future superhero movies, including a third "Spider-Man" film and "Superman."
SOURCE (http://www.superherohype.com/news/supermannews.php?id=2269)
For starters, the director acknowledged that the effects will be a combination of the practical and the computer generated varieties, just as they were for Spider-Man 2's Doc Ock.
"Absolutely, the new villain, the new powers [will be a mix]," Raimi says. "We"re shooting tests right now to determine what is best pulled off believably as a practical effect and what can't be, what's too dangerous, what is too unreasonable, and what looks better in CG."
SOURCE (http://www.superherohype.com/news/spider-mannews.php?id=2999)
In the first pic, Raimi notes there were 470 effects shots. In the second there were 850. And the estimate for "Spider-Man 3"? More than 1,000. "King Kong" will have more than 1,200.
SOURCE (http://www.superherohype.com/news/spider-mannews.php?id=3453)
Sam Raimi would be using innovative tech in "Spider-Man 3" to bring to life one of the villians, Sandman. "It's all new technology. It's like nothing you've ever seen before," he said, comparing it to the breakthrough CGI effects used in "Jurassic Park" and "The Perfect Storm."

Added May 23, 2006
Motion capture has also been used to drive faces for the digital characters in Spider-Man 3.....
On Spider-Man 3, the facial motion captured data was acquired seperately for a sit down position and the facial animation generated was blended in key framed body shots.

I heard something about this (Infamous) Famous Q&A?
It first appeared on SHH and then later on Aintitcool. It carried a spoiler heavy Spider-Man 3 Q&A between two undisclosed parties back in February. It has vanished now at Aintitcool, removed at Sony's request which could possibly mean it has some remote credibility, or it could possibly be that it simply had a couple of extremely lucky guesses. There is no yes or no answer to this question, many believe it, and many don't.
There is a current thread discussing the details. link (http://www.superherohype.com/forums/showthread.php?t=225714)
I saw an amusing fake teaser video that I feel compelled to create a thread about, should I?
NO! Again we have seen many threads created because of these fake videos. Please direct any comments about any fake video in this thread. link (http://www.superherohype.com/forums/showthread.php?t=219243)
It's Venom, it's a goblin, it's a church, it's..........nothing, absolutely nothing...
http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g165/powderman_22222/img_black.jpg
We have all heard and seen the eyepiece in detail. There is simply nothing conclusive to indicate that there is actually anything visibly clear in the eyepiece. It's mostly speculation, and/or "wishful" thinking on the most part by fans. If Sony MEANT to have anything in the eyepiece would you think they would make it so difficult to distinguish? Threads on the subject is therefore unneccesary and unwarranted around these parts.
But I saw something on IMBd (or Wikipedia)?(Thanks cmill)
Do not believe everything you read? Both websites depend solely on information provided by the fans. Sometimes they can be right but a lot of the times they are incorrect because fans are typically basing their information on rumours, speculation, or simply on what pops in their head. It's not to say the information on either site is 100% false, it's that the information provided is unreliable on best circumstances. Threads that are based on this information are not suggested.

I noticed you had a section on when the filming started, but what about the filming itself? I remember you posting in another thread about possible filming locales and times, though that was from IMDB I believe and not confirmed.
Though you could add links to sources and reports on the filming that has happened. Just an idea.
Good job though.

This is NOT a discussion thread, only questions and answers, so please take any further discussion elsewhere.
2) So I guess posts #2 thru the rest were simply "questions" and "answers" eh? ;)

This is a sticky because it lists the MOST common questions made by those who don't know the answers for, and who are not willing to look through all the other threads to locate the answer. Part 1 OR 2 can deal with that. This will help prevent them from creating a new thread on something that has already been discussed from this point forward. Plus ANYONE who has the answer to a question can post the answer as long as it's correct. I am in no way controlling that part.
Whatever that has been confirmed OR not, will more than likely have a thread to discuss it. If assistance is needed to locate that thread, I or anyone else can forward them to the proper location. So they will be using one of the correct threads to discuss it further, if that's needed.
I said no discussion because I do not want to see spam clog up an otherwise good thread, especially a sticky. It will also be easier to locate answers to questions already asked.
It's as simple as that. Other forums do this and it works well for them.

When did POWdER-Man become a mod or does he just exercise mod like powers in this thread?
No, it was blown out of proportion. I don't mind a bit of discussion if the issue is....vague. I just don't think it's neccesary to start having pages after pages of argument on a single issue.
It will just drown out the purpose of the thread. Because typically those of who will sit and argue on an issue, are typically those who regular members of the SM3 forum and not new or less active members who simply don't know the answer to a question. Especially if its a question that we might have discussed yesterday, last week, a month ago or even a year ago.
Now when something NEW comes in, I see no problem in discussing that issue. I am just saying on issues that we have already discussed and argued about for pages on end is not neccessary...."Is Topher Venom?" or, "Is there something in the eye?", questions come to mind....
Actually that reminds me....I should list that in there too.

It's not about what I believe it's about what's official.
If you're asking me personally if I do believe Topher is Venom? The answer is yes.
But do we have official confirmation on whether Topher is Venom? No.
If you go under the "Who are the Villains?" question, I reference both THC and KD's comments on that issue.

If you go under the "Who are the Villains?" question, I reference both THC and KD's comments on that issue.

Good job, dude. You've been all over this since day 1. Now, we'll have all the facts. Perfect. I just hope SM3 is as good as the others if not better. Like, if it's worth all the time and energy you're putting into this. I did a FAQ for the Ultimate Spider-Man game, everything looked amazing. They said so much was going to be in the game and all this stuff. The game was a fraction of what everyone hoped for. (People were pissed.)
I have high hopes for SM3 though. I am fairly certain that it will be good. It's just....

Do not believe everything you read. Both websites depend solely on information provided by the fans. Sometimes they can be right but a lot of the times they are incorrect because fans are typically basing their information on rumours, speculation, or simply on what pops in their head. Now that there appears to be a growing amount of threads created by Noobs in this corner of SHH, we have to take steps on curbing this growing problem. The majority of these threads are subjects long discussed, old reported news, rumours/heresay, and than of course the completely ridiculous ones that either make no sense or are not even linked to Spider-Man 3.
One way we could handle these problems is creating an official thread for main characters and subjects.
ie. The Official Topher Grace/Venom Rumours Discussion Thread
The Official James Franco Discussion Thread
The second way is to help these individuals and guiding them to the right thread.
We could use one of these two standard pictures when the thead is unneccesary or if it should be moved:
http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g165/powderman_22222/spider-man-2-wallpaper-9-800.jpg
http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g165/powderman_22222/spider-man-2-wallpaper-13-800.jpg
Now I am not talking about NEW news, I am more talking about the "Do you think Topher is Venom?", or "IMBd says Dr Connors is Lizard" threads that get created daily. Once we have specific threads for these subjects it should cut down on the constant posting of repetitive threads.
The third thing would be for everyone to stop posting in a thread that should be moved or closed after someone has posted one of the pictures and have given "helpful" instructions. This way either the thread will slide down the page or a Mod will choose to close it.

Well, it really has nothing to do with having Spidey Universe knowledge. It has to do with proper netiquette. People continuously post threads asking silly questions that can be easily answered by just looking at this FAQ that is sitting right here for the world to see.
not enough is known to create gwen/topher faqs plus duplicate threads dont really bother me that much.....
And, this is pretty true. For now, I've collected basically every single piece of info/pics on Gwen/Bryce, and I've got it in that thread. And really, it's not a whole lot. But, like Powder, I believe that we should have threads for specific characters, and various threads on topics and speculations on the film (such as fights, love triangles, teaser/trailer discussions, whatever.)

No, it doesn't cut down on repetitive question threads. Overwhelmingly, posters are self-absorbed... they have a 'burning' question or comment and their first instinct is to hit "New Thread", not to check to see if it's already been asked/answered/discussed.
Beyond that, once a thread reaches a certain size, people won't look at it anyway because they're too lazy to search for the information. I've made this kind of thread for both of the previous films, as well as earlier versions for Spider-Man 3. It's the same every time.
The other thing is that it's not "official". "Official" implies that it is sanctioned by the Hype! Administration. The only threads that are 'official' are those that one of the administrators (or the moderators on their behalf) create to relay information. This is not that case. Further, considering how much in this thread is not 'FAQs', but conversation, it shouldn't be presented as 'representing the Hype!'.
I'm not saying having an FAQ thread isn't a good idea. It is. It just doesn't need to be stickied, and is not 'official'. We are not 'nazis' who are going to force everyone to post in the same manner. Further, as posters, it's not your place to decide whether or not a thread is a 'valid' question that can have it's own thread, or should be merged with something existing. That's what we moderators are here for.
I realize some of you are simply trying to help (believe me, moderators like to be alerted to problems), but while you have some supporters, you are alienating other posters by trying to make them 'toe the line' that you are deliniating. You need to remember to be tolerant of both other people (and they're posting-style/personality/whatever) as well as tolerant of the board not necessarily looking like you want it too all the time.
Unlike many websites today, the forums are not 'customizable'. You can't make them look just the way you want them to. Think of them like Central Park. You have to learn to be able to do your thing without getting worked up over what other people are doing that may not be something you want being done in the park. If it's things that are detrimental to everyone - like say littering (spamming), attacking others (trolling/flaming) or running naked through the park (posting porn), that's different, but if someone is playing frisbee on an area you think would be better for football, you just have to accept that because it's not your call to make.

There is a "history" here in The Spidey Boards where the threads rise and sink on their on merit. The people decide. If a thread is worthy the posters will keep it up. Plus the owner has made it clear he does not like them ... officially. ;)
Right now, we are in a news lull. After comicon there should be some things to talk about and that will help keep the crap down.
Toys and "Manwolf" like stuff should just be sent to nonspoilers.

Why? Stale old news, as opposed to the topics that are the most interesting. Natural selection. *takes hat off to Mirko and Daisy*
1. This "stale" old news includes up to the minute updates of information on Shh which some I have provided. Now including this recent information I found on using facial digital animation on the movie.
http://graphics.stanford.edu/sig-course-06-face/FrontPage?action=AttachFile&do=get&target=monsterhouse-notes.pdf
Motion capture has also been used to drive faces for the digital characters in Spider-Man 3.....
On Spider-Man 3, the facial motion captured data was acquired seperately for a sit down position and the facial animation generated was blended in key framed body shots.
2. Most of the information is on SHH, but it is also kept in over a year's worth of announcements without a search function. And most people don't have the patience or the time to search through all the announcements, so they create a new thread about it. But this Thread provides all the information in a nice and neat package so they wouldn't have to, and in turn reducing the useless repetitive threads that contain no spoilers and/or news.
3. The Brokeback Mountain reference was obviously not subtle and wasn't lost on me. However, making sexual innuendos towards myself and cmill is tasteless and unneccessary. Of course there is NOTHING stopping you, so please continue making "gay" jokes.

If your news is up-to-the-minute, Powderman, there should be no need for a sticky, as your regular posting of news should keep this thread near the top or at least on the first page.

Actually I have never said once that it should remain a sticky Daisy. I said I was dissapointed but I was in compliance with the decision.

Well Daisy i can't really debate any of this as,as you say we posters don't make the calls, while i agree on some points i just feel question threads are spam as one post in they become nothing once the Q was answered but ok
one thing however i don't see it as trying to dictate how ppl post but you mention alienating others and yet i see in countless threads the mocking of those who like the direction of this movie and nothing is ever said about that which drives posters away from this section

I think that "history" is something driving a wedge here,it seems oldbies feel newbies(me and Powderman i guess) don't fit the mould
I agree that after comic con(when is it ?) there should be some topics with meat to them that will hopefully create interesting discussion
Toys and "Manwolf" like stuff should just be sent to nonspoilers.
We used to have a moving truck. :(
LOL :D i'm surprised they don't have a products section

Becoming spam after the question is posted is not due to the question, but the behavior of the posters, which I addressed (Central Park metaphor). Think of how many times people who seem to know their way around get asked questions repeately by tourists. You just have to deal with it. If you do it nicely, NY (Spider-Man forums) gets a good reputation. If you're nasty about it NY (Spider-Man forums) gets a bad rep.
You may not see it as dictating how people post, but a number of the people you're 'directing' do.
As for people who like the direction of the movie being mocked. It goes both ways. There's no determining who started it. People who like it are as bad as the people who don't. Both sides complain that the 'other side' is 'out-of-hand'. The truth is that neither is. You just need to learn to live with one-another.
That said, if someone seems to be stalking another person and deriding them at every opportunity (and by that I mean deriding THEM, not their opinion), alert a mod - alert me. That sort of harrassment isn't to be tolerated.

I agree with you Daisy to a point. However can you honestly say that the ones who are more....supportive with the movie, are not more civil about the differences towards their counter part. By no means all but I find they are at least tolerable against others.
A lot of times I witness name calling and belittling by these individuals towards those who are more "optimistic" of the movie. Up to the point where a lot of SHH members that I know, avoid this part of SHH like the plague.

Tobey and Topher were talking about some stuff i couldent hear. Then i walk and bump into tobey then he says "what was that for" then topher says "PICK ON HIM THEN PICK ON ME YOU JERK!". That was a good day. And Sam brang country style. Heres the set photo 2 hours before shooting. Please read everything on site.www.freewebs.com/mysm3role"

Wow those are strong words, I have not dictated or demanded the way this forum should be run at any time. I have made suggestions on improving the forums look and performance. Did I create a whole new thread on the subject? Did I say you MUST follow what I am saying?
The last few topics in the FAQ are simply common threads that were created which I thought most people would prefer not to see again and again.
ie. "The fake manips of Tobey in black suit from Spider-Man 2"
"The Seeing Something Inside the lens thread."
or the ever popular...
"I saw on IMBd that John Jameson is Manwolf or Curt Connors as Lizard"
If it's crossing the line from being suggestive to dictating and demanding than I will retract those statements. It's not a big deal to me as it seems to others.
As for my opinion on the organization of the common...
"Who do you think Franco will play..., Should Franco be... Will Franco..." and just simply merge all those speculation threads under one nice clean thread "the James Franco thread". Well really, if any of us wanted to read about Franco(or anyone else) speculation why couldn't we go to a specific thread?
As for NEW news and/or spoilers they would OF COURSE warrant it's own thread. But do we really need several threads on the same person or subject if it's based on "old" information or simply speculation?
If the answer is yes, than disregard what I said, let's have several threads in the Spoiler forum discussing nearly the same subject on the same character or issue. If that's what you prefer than I am fine with that.
I only make suggestions, take it with a grain of salt.

Exactly, I am not sour about it, that's the way the world turns. It's a decision, simple as that. I am not dictating the way the forum should be run, if the current set up is preffered, than that's the way it is.

Posts like "This should be stickied", after a Mod with, the Owner's backing, unstuck (<--- :D ) it can be perceived as "demanding". "Suggesting" rigid Offical OFFICAL threads  followed by taunts of "you should have posted this in the OFFICIAL thread you st00pid n00b" can be perceived as "dictating".
I'm not pointing a finger at anyone, only making a general observation of a perception, that there's an effort by some to take it upon themselves to "organize" the boards.

Which is fair enough. I had just thought that it would be better stickied so people would just check it now and again and not turn this into a discussion thread. I just thought it would be more easy if the discussion could be kept in more appropriate threads and not have a free for all here in regards to topic.

Yes, I can honestly say that neither group is 'better' than the other. I've seen people who supported the movie stalked and ridiculed and I've seen people who were skeptical stalked and ridiculed. I suggest that you simply notice the name-calling to the more 'optimistic' folk because you are in that group.
You say you know people who avoid this section because people belittle them for their optimism. I know people who avoid this forum because they feel they can't say anything critical without being ganged up on as a 'hater' or whatever.
As I said, it goes both ways.
Yes, I mean exactly that... and if someone is doing that to you... REPORT THEM TO ME. I will take care of it.
I don't look at things after-the-fact and decide, "Person X was too hard on Person Z. Person Z needs to be reprimanded." If I didn't hear from Person X or someone else that there was a problem, I leave it alone. I also am paying attention to many posters, so I don't necessarily pay attention to who talks to whom. Beyond that, some people have their 'Hype! nemeses" and enjoy debating with one-another with joking insults and all... and I don't know all those little relationships, so once again, unless someone lets me know, I don't reprimand anyone.
Contrary to what some posters seem to think... moderators are not out looking for 'infractions'. When we don't hear complaints, we assume all is well and we can relax and enjoy the Hype!.

You may not think it's even, but you don't see the big picture. Trust me, both groups equally feel that they are being 'picked on' for their opinion. I know there are a few people who are particularly bad, however, they fall along both 'sides' of the issue. As I said before, if there is a problem, PM me. Do you honestly not see how arrogant that sounds? Just because you "don't see them", doesn't mean they don't exist. Other people may like a different organization of the forum that they consider 'tidy'.
Perhaps in their mind, each topic that is in the FAQ should have it's own stickied thread, rather than having a whole lot of disparate topics lumped together - that way, if someone has a question about the "black suit behind the scenes pic" they can see it in the thread title, rather than having to think, "Hmmm.... I wonder if this pic has come up before and if there's something in the FAQ thread about it?"
There are all kinds of permutations of the way the forum could be organized that one group of people or another could consider 'tidy'.

First Spider-Man 3 New York Report?

May 26, 2006
Shortly after we posted this morning that Spider-Man 3 will be shooting in New York starting today, we received the following from 'Ben Urich':
I have a report to submit, thanks to a friend with a cellphone in Manhattan! She just called from 5th and 23rd (Madison Square Park). She said that she saw no evidence of any stars, but that there were many dogs in Spider-Man outfits, and that there was a wardrobe rack with many child-sized Spider-Man outfits. She *insists* that the dogs are not part of the shoot, but I told her she is out of her mind. She thinks that people just heard about the shoot, had pet Spider-Man outfits laying around, and decided to dress up their dogs and go down to hang around the shoot. I think it's much more reasonable to believe that they are shooting some sort of "Spider-Man Day" scene, complete with dogs and kids dressed up as Spider-Man.

Kind of useless information, but still cool:
THC talks briefly about Spider-Man 3 in the Seattle Post Intelligencer...
When were you cast in the new "Spider-Man" film?
"Spider-Man" was the first thing that came; I got offered that movie last January. But that was a year-and-a-half commitment. So directing was off for a while. I also got to do a Western with Robert Duvall ("The Broken Trail") that will be out in June.
"Spider-Man 3" has got to be a completely different kind of physically intensive process compared to your other roles.
It's a lot of stunts. Big action movie. Lots of action.
So...lots of action, I guess. :D

Another day, another new THC interview...with basically nothing major in it. But still, some interesting stuff....
Q: So you're still in production on Spider-Man 3.
A: I am here (in Los Angeles) now, and we move to New York in a couple of weeks. I pretty much work all through June.
Q: How long have you been involved with Spidey?
A: All told, since the beginning of March last year. There is so much prep that goes into it. They asked me to do the movie in January of last year, and I was officially engaged with the movie in the beginning of March.
Q: What type of villain is the Sandman?
A: He is one of the earliest established villains. He was introduced in the fourth Spider-Man issue. He's a guy who sometimes is all sand and sometimes he's all man. He is an elusive figure, but when he's a normal guy, he's a tough guy. He is kind of street-hardened.

There have not been any official announcement by Sony. I have included information below cast members and crew on the leaked reports that back up the claim that Topher Grace is indeed playing Eddie Brock. However without a visual confirmation or an announcement by Sony and co., it can't be reported as being confirmed yet.

A little bit of information.....Kirsten Dunst IS in New York and Tobey is having problems with his lines....
Spidey and fans
That was Peter Parker himself, aka Tobey Maguire, struggling mightily to get through a one-line scene while filming "Spider-Man 3" in Madison Square Park the other day. "He had to do about 50 takes of a 20-second scene in which he turns to the camera, walks three steps, and says one line," reports a Lowdown spy, noting that the line was inaudible. "Equally over-the-top was Tobey's lion-sized entourage, sitting just behind the shoot. Literally, between cast, crew, family and friends, there were like 50 people watching this shot. At one point, he actually laughed because he couldn't keep it together to deliver his one line. Sad." Maybe Tobey would be less distracted if he left some of his admirers at home.
Mary Jane and fan
Meanwhile, Maguire's "Spider-Man 3" co-star Kirsten Dunst - who plays Mary Jane Watson - was wandering down W. 11th St. the other day, near the Magnolia Bakery, although she didn't stop in for their famous cupcakes. "She looked SUPER rex [skinny] and pale, like she'd been out partying all night," a Lowdown spy E-mailed. "She was immersed in drama talk with another waiflike friend. Kirsten was doing all the talking, her friend all the listening. She was sporting huge sunglasses and looking very, very pale, despite it being sunny out."

I added these two sections. There isn't anything else to add except the Venom for only 10 minutes which I am not counting all my chickens until they hatch. Which means I will wait until I hear word that the teaser is indeed going to be released with Superman Returns. If it isn't, I will drop the information, and not bother adding the rest. If it is true, than I will add the Venom information.
UPDATE June 3, 2006
A New York Fan reports that the first upcoming Teaser is to be released with Superman Returns which is scheduled to be released later this month. It was reported that Sam Raimi wasn't positive but he believed that it will released then. This is a fan fed information so there is no official word as of yet.

UPDATE June 3, 2006
Brief interview with Avi Arad confirms an unheard of 4 villains for Spider-Man 3.
iF: There are four villains this time, Venom, Sandman, and Green Goblin and when is the fourth going to be revealed?
ARAD: Right we have four villains. Pretty soon [we’ll reveal the fourth villain] I believe. Maybe around Comic Con we’ll reveal something and the madness will begin.

I remember him saying something along the lines of: 'I'll just have to see how things go. If I still have a connection with the characters, if I feel the story needs to continue'....etc etc...Something like that.
So what would that have to do with anything? Something he said earlier would not be any more valid then latter.

um, Powder-Man, the teaser is playing with Superman returns. Sam Raimi said it himself, Superherohype confirmed first and now Joblo has recieved another confirmation
Before I go over a few things I do recognize that SR will show the Teaser. Ok now with that over with.....
1. If you look below the "current information" on the teaser, there is an update on June 3, 2006. I mentioned about the alleged information provided by a fan and the link by SHH of the information.
2. Everyone says Raimi confirmed, but from the fans own words:
"First off, I asked him about the teaser trailer and I said, it's coming with Talladega Nights right? Before I finished asking the question, he said Superman. And I said what? Because you guys at Superhero Hype! said Talladega nights. Then Sam Raimi himself said Superman, and there was another man listening who confirmed that. But then Sam said well I don't know what "they're" doing but they told me Superman Returns. Keep a look out." Now it's easy to say now that it's true but at the time you couldn't say downright it was. This was fan base information provided word through mouth from Raimi, out of the blue to a random fan and mentioned in a way without certainty.
Now unless SHH has reported something else on this matter that I have completely missed and apparently everyone else, than this was the only news that confirmed this (although I do remember reading another fan report saying something later). This information has never been concrete until the latest reports by AICN and especially JoBlo.
3. Now getting to the information on JoBlo and AICN, these reports were only added TODAY. I haven't had time to edit this I will be doing after this reply.
4. SHH still gets the honor or reporting it first, but at the time it was still a speculative rumour.
Ok with that said, thanks for bringing it to my attention. I will be making the changes....:)

Who knows, I'm really just freaking out about the whole thing. It seems to me that that logic would be true of any series of films. Take X-men. X3 has made enough money to pretty much garunteee they will make X4. I think Spidy will be the same way. As long as enough people out there are willing to spend their hard earned money on tickets sales, they will keep making these movies, especially if they can maintain the quality of the previous two films and not backslide like the Batman ones did.

Hey, Powder. ;)
It is also good to know that you can dig yourself out of hole like the bat folks did with Batman Begins. The trick is making sure you never fall into into the hole in the first place. I hope that movie people can look back at the sucky Batman filmz and see where it all went wrong. You have to keep it as realistic as possible. If you can keep things so the audience can say -- "Yeah that could happen", then I think they will be okay. They will just have to be really picky about their scripts and not rush things just to crank another one out for the fans.

Look below that question. I entered an update about that being mentioned that the teaser might be released with Superman Returns. However we have yet to get any confirmation from that and it's been nearly two weeks ago since we found out and the movie just releases in two weeks.
So you would think we would have heard more from that by now.
But thanks for the input.
oops i missed that and your welcome

See the thread got sticked again. It needs to be at the top of the page anyway especially now.
Yeah i agree, that way we don't have to go to the back pages looking for it.

Yeah i remember that, lets hope so. :spidey:
I'd like to ask a few questions.
1. Is it true there's footage of Venom (or a new trailer or something)
2. Has the fourth villian been confirmed? I heard it was supposed to be someone who was a good who went evil. Like the Lizard?
3. Will there be a 4?
- Sorry folks, I'm mostly a Batman guy.

1. - There is footage of Venom in the comic-con trailer
2. - Yes, the fourth villain has been confirmed a while back by Avi Arad ( Its spider-man himself when he has the symbiote )
3 - There is no talks as of yet for a fourth

while there is not a FAQ thread, most of these questions can be answered in other threads, but anyway....
1.) yes, you may find rough footage from comi-con of venom any many of the threads here, and yes, it was recently stated that a new trailer will come out in the fall, most suspect with Casino Royale
2.) I don't believe there has been a "official" confirmation but most are finally accepting that "evil/symbiot spidey" is the fourth villian.
3.) recent toy deals and marketing promotions point towards another spidey film, but many believe this will be the final. i believe that is truly undecided right now, they will see how well it does and see if there is truly a meaningful story to go forward with from here. i personally blieve the movie will not have a cliffhanger and will closure even if we hear tommorow that it is for sure there will be a Spider-Man 4.
