Snake looks even more haggrad then he did in the first teaser, its depressing seeing everyone so worn and tired then not to mention seeing Snake put the gun in his mouth and say "Some bloodlines must end." I'm gonna need a pick me up after this game, just like when I played KOTOR on Dark Side. :o

The music...sucked ass (oh how I wished I could jump into the screen and strangle that *****).
Snake's look...sucked ass.
Raiden's face...sucked ass.
MGS4's 2007 release date...sucked ass.
Snake looks like he belongs in a wheelchair rather than in a sneaking suit. It would've been pretty kickass to see Solid "Harman Smith" Snake. :(
On the upside of things -
The graphics were pretty good (I DL'd the HD version from Gamespot)
Campbell, Otacon, Meryl, Naomi and Ocelot looked pretty good.
Snake's sneaking suit looked excellent with it's darker colours.
Raiden appears to be more of a badass, but still is a bit too feminine for my tastes.
Overall, my thoughts are mixed slightly weighing towards the negative. I guess Snake is right. Some bloodline must come to an end.

this game will definitely test Metal Gear fans' loyalty to the series since there are quite a few drastic changes...
...but really and truely, they're just VISUAL changes. Snake is still the same Snake, he's just gotten older. Raiden is still Raiden...he just has a cooler suit, etc. either way, i still can't wait to get my hands on this game. as deep as the previous games were...this one looks as deep as an abyss.

I didnt like raiden's face, but his hair physics are incredible when he's doing the backflips.
I actually like snakes look, especially when hes saluting at the grave. His face says more than any conry mgs dialouge.
The only problem I have right ow is that the graphics dont really good that great. It's pretty good compared tot he crap you're seeing on Xbo360 and Ps3 games but for MGS stantards its not that far away from MGS3, just look at the cemetary scene or the helicopter landing. It looks meh to me.
The best thing for me was probably Otacon, He his model looks way ahead of all the other ones, and when he cries you can see the animation in the eye.

Gears of War alone craps on those visuals in terms of detail.
The best thing for me was probably Otacon, He his model looks way ahead of all the other ones, and when he cries you can see the animation in the eye.
Yeah, Otacon looked great and as much it saddens and pains me to say, looked far more appropriate for the title of the protagonist than old man Snake (don't even try suggesting Raiden). But there are a few good changes in Snake's look that I approve of - the moustache seems trimmed, or at least a lot thinner than the thick pornstar slapjob in the TGS trailer and the darker colors of the sneaking suit and the bandanna.

Ok thoughts about the trailer then:
Raiden looks... odd. I'm for the look though, its cool and a nice little tribute to Grey Fox, which I'm all for.
Ocelot/Liquid doesn't really get me going, I was against the whole arm thing anyway but I didn't want to see Liquid, such an awesome character, so I guess there's a plus side to it all. Also, glasses? What's up with that?
Sudden return of so many characters is great (Meryl looks hot). Good to see such a strong cast return, no mention of Vamp or Big Boss though.
Raiden's action scene was great... Snake just seemed to stand around but he's old, we'll let him off.
The ending scene was fantastic Snake won't kill himself I know, but it was heartbreaking just to watch it in a trailer.
Metal Gears everywhere = ONE HECK OF A GAME!
All in all, 10/10, I'm going to spend the rest of my days inventing a time machine so I can go forward into the year 2225, then the PS3 is FINALLY released and I won't have to wait any longer. :(

I wish I could say the same. Black Hawk Down has one of the most kickass scores ever. I listen to it very often while in my car. But this was nothing like it. It was just some dumb broad wailing on the mic with Japanese strings, while Black Hawk Down had a purely Middle-Eastern flair with a little bit of traditional Hans Zimmer and excellent electronica thrown in the mix for good measure. Let's hope they sign Harry Gregson-Williams to compose the full score for the game like they did with MGS2. Else MGS4 will lose nearly half of it's cinematic punch if the music stays this way.

Considering this might very well end up being the last time we get to see such a kickass character as Solid Snake, the very thought of him going out with a whimper instead of a Big Bang is painfully sad. Oh well, at least Halo 3 doesn't appear to disappoint in that regard.

An aged Batman worked.
An aged Punisher works (the guy is pushing 60, and the art in Punisher MAX shows it).
Why not an aged Snake? I frikkin' love the idea!
We knew right from MGS 1 that Snake ages faster than normal. In this new game, we see the results of this. You would actually rather that Snake stays the same age, with the same beard, like some cartoon character.
This IS Snake's last game, and from the trailer this has the potential to be his swan song. The age thing adds to his character. The whole grumpy man thing he does times 2, age being a hurdle for him to overcome.
The man is the perfect soldier. He was born that way. You really think he couldn't keep in peak physical shape just because he's old? I'd like to think that a perfect soldier can.
Look at Vince McMahon from WWE!! What age is that guy?? Still in peak physical shape, still wrestling.

The degenerative genes catch up with him, and all of a sudden he's an old man. Snake gives up, and just lays in bed all day.
The degenerative genes catch up with him, and all of a sudden he's an old man. Snake continues to fight on, because he's just a badass like that.
Snake beat his genetically superior brother. Snake beat his genetic fate. Snake always overcomes incredible odds. He keeps fighting no matter what!! He FINDS a way!! That's the type of character he is.
Why do you think Snake would give up just 'cause he's old?

Couldn't care less about The Punisher.
Your loss.
The idea of an aged Snake can also work with a Snake who actually looks like he can lift a gun.
Snake looks in excellent condition to me. The guy is ripped! Because he's got wrinkles means he's not fit enough to lift a gun?
Don't you think it would have been a cop out if they made Snake look, say, late 40s instead of very old and haggered as he looks in the trailer? He has degenerative genes!!
Just because he's old means he's gonna go out with a whimper? I just love that logic.
At what point did I say WWE was real? All I said was that Vince McMahon is damn old, in his late 50s maybe early 60s, he's in INCREDIBLE shape, and is still fit enough to wrestle. Everyone knows wrestling is fake, but you'd have to be an idiot to deny that wrestling every night of the week, sometimes two or three times, takes alot of physical fitness. Sure, Vince doesn't wrestle THAT much, but he's still fit enough to wrestle in PPV matches. Most other guys his age would be out of breath by the time they got to the ring.
Look at how negatively people are reacting to you, Phaser. It's because you complain too god damn much. No one likes a nitpicker.

Way to prejudge the story. Congradulations for being psychic. I think it's a little implied from the trailer that Snake considers killing himself for the greater good. Maybe he has some sorta disease or something? I don't know. What I do know is that you are judging that scene way too much with not enough info.

Anyway, the shortened version is freaking amazing. Glad to see the characters returning. Loving the fact that Snake is finally starting to show age and the sense of desperation in this game is going to be awesome.
Seriously though, Kojima has a way of twisting things around so I'm sure that everything isn't as it seems. Can't even begin to imagine how amazing the finished version is going to look.

i'm tired of hearing how Snake is too old to be fighting in the field. my dad just turned 63 and he just got done building a 30 x 10 foot extension for our house (which is now the den) by himself (with 1 or 2 days worth of my help) in less than 2 months...
....don't give me this bull$#!+ about how Snake is too old to fight for something he's deeply involved in, considering he SHOULD be in better shape than my old man (with sever back problems) who's smoked a pack and a half a day since he was 13.

Orchestrated crap. No wonder half-wits like you think it is real.
I could care less about MGS, but I have to step in here.
People who think wrestling fans think it's real are way more out of touch with reality than wrestling fans could ever be. We know it's pre determined...so what? You watch movies, and you MUST know that's scripted , right? It's no different. And if you don't think there's real athletisism and risks involved, it just goes to show you know NOTHING about it, and aren't qualified to talk.
His point was McMahon is in awesome shape for a 60 year old, and he is. Hell is awesome shape for ANY age, and unless you look like he does at 60 NOW, which I doubt, you have no room to talk.
Let's face it, you like comics and videogames. Not exactly the most realistic mediums on the planet, unless you somehow think that Batman is the chronicals of a real detective and that Solid Snake is a real, living agent.

got some big expectations about this game after seeing the trailer but what blew me away the most would have to be splinter cell double agent. Metal Gear got a cinematics and an amazing story but I'm still put off with the fact that Snake is old cause then when Konami makes another game, Snake won't be in it:(. Splinter cell has gameplay with a big possibility that the story might be amazing. either way, 2007 is gonna be another good year for gamers(Y).

did anyof you see the 15 minute trailer? Raiden ****ing owns, Raiden vs Master Cheif; I'd love to see that.
Anyway, Phaser has his opinion, even though I think the old snake one is Nitpicking since snake knows he's lost it, kojima knows if you watch the 15min trailer you'll get it. Its a burden like Otacon says some of you are being way over critcal.
For the graphics he has a good point, the colors seem dull and just meh, and so are some of the textures.
Alright, I watched the 15 minute trailer.
The graphics in the full-length version are better, but they're still degraded from TGS. Apparently Hideo said he didn't want the graphics to be "too realistic," so he toned them down to something that was more "classic Metal Gear." Sounds like an excuse, I know, but whatever. The graphics are still damn good. I just wish they would work on those goddamn textures.
Voice acting was top notch. No complaints in that department.
The dialogue was great. Sounds like this game will be more along the lines of MGS2 in terms of story (which I like).
The music was iffy in certain parts, but it did a good job of maintaining the mood of the trailer.
The Metal Gear Gekkou are ****ing insane. The way they were scaling the walls and ****. Wow.
And now, my favorite topic: Solid/Old Snake. Having watched the trailer a few times, I withdraw my previous criticism. The 15 minute version allows more time to flesh out Snake's character. For those like Phaser who are worried about Snake being too old to fight, don't worry. He gets around pretty good in the trailer. Believe it or not, but this Snake looks YOUNGER than TGS Snake (facially), and does bear more of a resemblance to "classic Snake." And then of course...there is that moustache. Don't know why, but for some reason it's more tolerable in this trailer than the last one. I guess I've seen it enough to the point where it's not as bothersome. One thing I do like about it is that it's a mix of brown and white hair. Nice little touch I thought. I STILL would like to see a beard by the time this game is released (I will remain firm on this), but I think I know why Snake has a 'stache. Consider this:
-Solid Snake is old. Liquid Ocelot is old.
-Solid Snake has white hair. Liquid Ocelot has white hair.
-Solid Snake has a moustache. Liquid Ocelot has a moustache.
Despite some differences in terms of facial structure, both characters have similar characteristics. I suppose this was done to represent the "twin brothers" duality.
One more thing on Snake, the OctoCamo is ****ing sweet. I can't believe they actually did it.
My favorite sequence was the graveyard/helicopter scene.
Oh yeah, the last sequence with Raiden? Jesus ****ing Christ.

All I know for sure is that Solid Snake will not pull the trigger. It would be stupid to include such a scene in a trailer that ruins a big surprise for us MGS fans. If you look closely, there seems to be no sign of Snake's 'Solid Eye' in the preview. More reason to believe that his trip to the Middle East might probably be a short portion of the game. I'm just speculating here, I might be dead wrong on this. But ask yourselves this, why kill off the main character of a best-selling franchise just for shock value? Anyway, I've laid down my two cents on this particular topic, hope I didn't come off as a total fanboy. :)

I was thinking about how much Otacon has evolved.
In MGS1 he was a pretty frightened and (I hate to use this word) whiney guy. But you still loved the guy. Unlike Raiden.
In MGS2 he was more of a friend and partner to Snake. The secret handshake after Emma died, made me a little teary. (Shutup)
In this new game he seems to be more mature and it just seems like the guy's been through a million battles. He's obviously grown since the first game.

i was thinking it'd be either Otacon or Meryl in the grave , but that's be stupid since they both (kind of) died in the first game, and Otacon again (almost) in the second. it'd be a bit redundant.
maybe Raiden sacrifices himself for the good of the team? seams to be the going trend with the Ninjas, don't you think? plus, i think it's be a good way to end his story. he finds something to believe in, to fight for, and, ultimately, to die for, like Snake was telling him at the end of MGS2.

No, Liquid killed Master Miller about 3 days before the Shadow Moses incident and then disguised himself as Master.
We were talking about the grave that Snake was visiting, it's probally the grave of one of his main mentors: Master Miller, Grey Fox, and his enemy Big Boss.

Neither ending in Metal Gear Solid had Otacon dying and the Meryl ending is cannon, not the Otacon ending. Otacon did not almost die in Metal Gear Solid 2 either.
maybe Raiden sacrifices himself for the good of the team? seams to be the going trend with the Ninjas, don't you think? plus, i think it's be a good way to end his story. he finds something to believe in, to fight for, and, ultimately, to die for, like Snake was telling him at the end of MGS2.
But it's obvious that the grave scene is one of the first scenes in Metal Gear Solid 4, it can't be Raiden and if anyone major dies it's going to be Snake.

Now that would be perhaps the most intense ending in video game history. They do seem to be making Raiden a full-on badass in MGS4...perhaps he is taking over?
God I hope not..
besides.. he seems too uber now.. with all the slicing and dicing..
Now a new Snake clone.. Solid's son ;)

i thought in metal gear solid1, the ending where you saved meryl had otacon staying behind, but i remembered it wrong, i forgot they never blew up the island. my bad.

No. It's shown in the trailer that he goes to the grave before he gets his mission information from the colonel. It's in the beginning. It couldn't be Raiden or Otacon or Meryl.
It could be Big Boss, Fox, or Miller
My money's on Fox
i must have missed that. which trailer was it in? the longer (15 min.) one? because i haven't watched that one yet.

Because in the 15 min trailer, Otacon comes in by helicopter tells Snake to come on and then Campbell gives him the details about the mission: Liquid is in the Middle East amassing a large army to obtain Big Boss's dream.

Yes, Otacon approaches Snake in the scene and brings him on board a chopper where the Colonel briefs him. I'm jusy hoping it'll start exactly with that close up on Snake's face, saluting, it'd be nice to see the exact same shot being using in the start, after it being the last shot in 3

Yeah, but Raiden's probably in whatever country he's in because of snake, and the grave scene was before the mission.
I think it's Fox, small chance it's Olga.

These images depress me. Seriously.
The graphics are okay (hopefully they'll be worked on), but some of the character have serious changes from their previous models. The MGS2 models were perfect in terms of design. All they needed to do was render those models with PS3 graphics and age them appropriately.
Looking at MGS2 Snake and MGS4 Snake makes me sad. They don't even look like the same person.

Ocelot looks different too. Just compare his facial features.
And seriously, I am perfectly fine with the CONCEPT of Old Snake. But as of late they're doing a pretty bad job at designing him. Just my honest opinion.
They have one more E3 and two more TGS's to get it right.

Only Snake and Raiden look significantly different. Snake because his body is degenerating and Raiden because of his new suit. The rest look like they have aged perfectly along the time span that occured between Metal Gear Solid and Metal Gear Solid 4

That's not what I'm saying. I understand the reason behind Snake's look. He'd old, because his body's decaying. That's understandable, and that's fine.
What I'm saying is, he doesn't even look like an aged Snake. Certain facial features are noticeably different. MGS4 Snake doesn't look like MGS2 Snake after six years.

You cant just take PS2 models and make them life like with teh oh noes Ps3 graphics
When you put more and more detail into the characters they start to look different. Its like DOA4, those kind of art style cannot use realistic features and still maintain the look of the series.
The facial characteristics are different because they are realistic, and he looks better(not as ugly). They changed alot of characteristics from MGS1 to MGS2 (you can see in the character art, same as here)
And the tache makes sense to everyone except you, all you expecting from the series is to be ubber kewl oh no ninja raiden action? Most military vets have mustaches and it fits the character, it shows that he's a pro, been doing it all his life. Its little details like that that give the character his background and basically say his personality in the way he looks.

And this means they can't make Snake more like his old self...why? You think the way he looks in the trailer is end-all-be-all? You're telling me that's the CLOSEST they can get him to his old self in terms of facial structuring?

Such an ignorant statement. A moustache makes just as much sense as a beard. Your logic is a moustache shows he's a pro, since a moustache is a stereotypical war vet attribute. My logic is a beard shows Solid Snake's rough, worn look, and shows that he doesn't take time to maintain his image. No matter what way you look at it, both perspectives are true to his character. It's merely a matter of opinion as to what looks better. Neither makes more sense than the other. I am curious though. WHEN in this topic did I say a moustache didn't make sense? I merely asked another person why they thought it makes the MOST sense. Pardon me for being curious.

Graphics wise the trailer is pretty inconsistent, but I think that has a lot more to do with the style of the graphics (textures being done by hand) how they're doing the bloom, depth of feild effect, and the general style, than it not being technically really freaking good. Because you can tell it is if you look. Also, maybe a lot of the textures for the game area aren't finished yet, because there are some shots that are omg (like when Snake is walking around the corner and turns into the small area right before seeing the MG and the body, look at the wall it's amazing). Even the stairs he's runing up you're like "ho hum" and then when Snakes foot gets snagged and the camera zooms in you're like "those are some detailed stairs".

i think that if you took the MGS4 models and stripped tham down to the number of polygons of MSG2 they'd look really similar. the MGS4 versions are exactly how the older version are ment to look. if we had these graphics at the time of MGS2 they all would have had more sculptured jaws and all the other little differences that the limitations of past tech didn't allow them to do. was anyone upset that snake looked different between MGS and MGS2 for the same reasons, no.

Yeah. However, after watching the trailer I could careless about his age and how he looks now, this game looks awesome and snake doesn't look as though he's slowed down. He still appears to move the way he's always done. This game is going to be epic.
While I liked the Big Boss model alot, I wouldn't have used it for MGS4 Solid Snake. At least, not the way it is. If they were to give him a mix of gray and brown hair, shorten the beard and stache, and age him appropriately, that would have been perfect.
In the issue of Famitsu that came out today, Hideo said the graphics would improve. Call me persistent, ignorant, stubborn, whatever. I still hold onto the hope that Hideo will make changes.

As some of you heard there was a conference yesterday that covered MGS4, Gears of War, and Red Steel, I attended and I'll post some of the more interesting things Kojima said.
-Raiden will not be playable in any form.
-They have taken particular care in the way the Metal Gears move to make them feel alive.
-When one of the Metal Gear's busts through the wall its destroyed differently each time due to the new physics based destructable enviroments.
-The Solid Eye system is still planned for the final game.
-You'll be able to fight alongside the Arab soldiers you see in the beginning of the trailer.
-He intends to showoff what they've done with the gameplay at TGS.
Thats pretty much it, there will also be more info on May 12 when the newest issue of Famitsu is released, it has an interview with Kojima.

The answers are in front of you friend. Perfect the cloning process, and transfer Liquid's arm unto the clone. Why would Liquid want to be stuck on Ocelot's old body, when he can be transfered to a fresh, new perfected BB clone?
1. I know, his body is useless now. It's his arm that transferred his mind unto Ocelot. Transfer the arm unto the new clone.
2 & 3. They could clone anyone, but it wouldn't contain their personality or memories. And who said it wouldn't be alive? It would be in a veggie state and age rapidly until it hit it's prime, then they'd transfer the arm unto it. It's been done in most sci fi stories involving cloning.
4. The body is useless. His magical arm is all that matters.
5. You're riight. Perfect the cloning process and transfer your mind into a superior body. You think Snake is going to die? Of course not. He's going to stumble upon a laboratory and transfer his mind into a fresh new BB body.

Interesting idea, remember when Liquid says "We are free from the bonds of fate. Brother, we are free!"
It could be alluding to that sort of thing, since I'm not sure how else they would break free of their fate (to die).
Though I don't think that Snake will be un-aged or re-cloned, is anything his cellular decay might be stopped in MGS4, but I can't see them pulling off a rebirth angle without it being corny, especially with the opressive finality in that trailer. We'll see.

The only Metal Gear games I haven't played are Snake's Revenge and Ghost Babel.
First of all it wasn't just the arm that allowed Liquid to transfer his mind and spirit into Ocelot. It was most likely due to Ocelot's heritage. The Sorrow, a spiritual medium, is Ocelot's father. Ocelot most likely inherited a very weak form of his father's powers and Liquid took advantage of it. Liquid's arm is not magic.
Second, there is no point in making a vegitative clone of Liquid Snake. And it takes many, many years to age a clone, unless you want it to die within days.
Third, transfering a mind into a new clone body would be not only stupid, but unoriginal. And it has never worked. Like Mr. Freeze in Batman Beyond. Or Lex Luthor.
Fourth, a pure Big Boss clone would be much more desireable, closer along the lines of Solidus, than a clone of Liquid. And look how well that turned out. The Patriots probally wouldn't even want to clone Big Boss any more on account that not only Big Boss, but all of his clones have rebelled against them.

I never said this was the work of the Patriots. It's what Liquid wants. It's something he arranged so he isn't just an arm on some old guy's body. And what is your second point based off of? Real world science? This is a videogame dude, with robots with organic legs. How long do you think it took them to grow those organic legs? There's no reason they couldn't have developed an accelerated aging process for cloning. It's been done before in other sci fi stories. It's never worked for BB, so that means it can't work for MGS? Saying that cloning isn't original is like saiying every sci fi movie with laser guns and spaceships copies from each other, or that every movie that features people fighting copied off real life history. Grow up. Damn, learn how to read. I never said a clone of Liquid would be desirable. I said Liquid cloned Big Boss so he could transfer his mind into a more perfect form of the source. And the whole Sorrow thing is stretching it. He probably wanted Ocelot's body so he could pull the strings from within the Patriots.

But why would Liquid want to create a pure Big Boss clone? He has all the dominant genes.

Him and Solid are equals, thus the twin snakes. Wasn't it Solidus that got the dominant genes? I'm still a little shakey on that.
Anyways, Liquid has no body at the moment. Why wouldn't he want to create another BB clone, this time one that he knows is perfect, and transfer himself to it? BTW, this is all pure speculation on my part. It doesn't make sense if that drawing was Liquid, since if he cloned BB again it wouldn't look that old and wouldn't have an eye patch. :)

Liquid: dominant genes
Snake: recessive genes
Solidus: the best genes, regardless they were dominant or recessive, he's the closest one to being the pure Big Boss clone

In Metal Gear Solid (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metal_Gear_Solid) epilogue, this inferiority complex is revealed to be incorrect: Revolver Ocelot (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Revolver_Ocelot) reveals that Liquid is, in fact, the superior one. Furthermore, in Metal Gear Solid naked, Kojima reveals that neither Snakes are superior nor inferior, as the technology to modify phenotypes did not exist during the 1970's.

If Solidus had the best genes and is closest to BB, then Liquid would still be inferior. If he was to clone a new body, wouldn't it be best to go back to the source?

In that way, yes Liquid would have been inferior to Solidus, but that wasn't the body he wanted. He wanted to be the dominant one, which he is. Not the recessive one or the perfect balance. He hates Big Boss and he would never want to have a body which is exactly like Big Boss's.
However with that said, Liquid was never the person to pass a genetics class :o

I wish, someone would've cloned Solid Snake.... and mixed it Meryl's genetics... boom new hero ;)
Red haired bad ass:D
I'm wondering. With Liquid inside of Ocelot, surely Liquid now knows about Big Boss' past, and the real reason why he created Outer Heaven.
I wonder if this discovery will have any affect.

To battle the Patriots? Is that really the real reason? I thought it was just so soldiers would always have a purpose, and in fact he really was evil.
Either you guys are WAY TOO MUCH into Metal Gear or I don't know anything about it.
I'm still awesome though.

I'm actually disappointing Zenien about it, as I haven't been able to get past that red brick house after the first bridge.
But then again, I haven't played an other game but Guitar Hero and Tomb Raider Legends.
I'll play a bit later, but I do love the game.
