I logged on to Hype today to find all of my Private Messages deleted.
And I know for a fact I did not delete all of them last night.

Is there anyway to get them back and why are they gone?

I had several important PM's concerning the running of the RPG's on Hype.

If you ask me, this is worse than posting someone's PM on the forum.

I seriously had some very important PM's in there concerning the RPG's. They were recent and I hadn't been able to save them yet.

Yes, that's me I just checked all my accounts and I still have PM's there, so why are mine gone now?

I can only assume it has to do with me forwarding a message to a few of the other Mods. I was then told that I can't forward PM's without both parties being in agreement about it.

But when I checked the FAQ's it just mentioned that the 'Post/s' would be removed so I thought it was just about posting PM's.

I also apologized and said it would never happen again.

It had been said that once a PM is sent and in your box you're allowed to do with it as you please (except post it verbatim in the forums). So, I dunno why that's suddenly a no-no.

Also, if a mod did this, it raises the issue that mods are probably reading our PRIVATE messages.

Morg doesn't have that power. Only admins do.

"It had been said that once a PM is sent and in your box you're allowed to do with it as you please (except post it verbatim in the forums). So, I dunno why that's suddenly a no-no."

I'm the one who said that, so I could be over-ruled by the Administration. It just seems to me, though, if the rule is that Private Messages are to be that strictly confidential then they ought to remove the "Forward" option.

The thing is I'm to shocked and hurt to be mad.

I was in the middle of a long PM exchange with a close friend, Morg and I were in what I thought was a good conversation and I thought we were patching up our differences.

The upsetting thing is that I only logged on today because I was going to send an apology to Excel. I had a friend of mine off line read them and they said that while I handled things properly I was a bit to formal and came off as condencending.

If it is about forwarding PM's why was my WHOLE BOX deleted and not just the offending PM?

Also why was it deleted in the first place?

It's obvious that something is going on and I've hit some chord, since I only thought I stirred the pot up for a weekend and that things would settle back down to normal.

By doing this they've only confirmed that I've somehow knocked on the wrong door.

Also Jonty please PM me lots of nice things because I am literally shaking and crying over the fact.

Many of the PM's I had there were from friends I like to talk to and I hadn't yet had the time to save them all.

Don't even try to joke around with me.

This has gone to far, are the Admin trying to force me off this site?
What exactly have I don't that has them so defensive? My PM's to Excel stopped with him, not me and they stopped a day ago.

Why delete them now?

They were deleted before 11:07 AM this morning because I have a message from LarryLegend dated that time in My PM box.

Also thank you to the Mods that did PM me. :)

Uh, before we start assigning alterior motives to the Administration (or anyone else) I think it would be wise to wait until an technical investigation is made on your account Twy.

I say this because it could very well be a system glitch--we all know the site suffers from it from time to time. For example, a couple of weeks ago I couldn't load any of my avatars here. And my PM box at Xverse (another Vbulletin site) says I have 2 unread messages, but it's false. So let's take the mature route, turn your case into the admins so they can check it out, and be patient.

I thought it was you and pretty recent, but din't wanna call ya out. But still, you're right, it's pretty much common sense. Once sent they're your private messages, right. Why can't you make em private to someone else? It's not putting them out publically as posting would be. But yeah, I guess you're also right that it's Mirko's rules. don't want your PMs deleted? Go somewhere else.

That's okay, but thanks for the consideration.

What I said was that before the annoucement here at the Hype! that the 'private' in private messages was meant to mean a degree of confidentiality (i.e. no posting in public), I interpreted the 'private' in 'private messages' to mean that it allowed you maintain your privacy (i.e. you didn't have to give out your personal e-mail address to communicate personally with someone on the boards). I had always considered private messages like e-mail, that once the other person had them, the messages were pretty much theirs to do with as they please - which could include anything from forwarding it to a friend to hosting the message on a website (and everything in between), so you shouldn't put anything in a PM that you don't want made public unless you REALLY trust the person not to do so.

I never extrapolated the Hype! rule that you couldn't post PMs to mean that PMs were strict confidential documents, the content of which could be shared with no one. Heck, I've forwarded PMs to others myself.
