She's always been fairly weak. What made her formidable was her great skill and ruthlessness.
I disagree.
Nothing in her history lists her as a "weak" telepath.
Only that she was less than Xaiver and Phoenix-powered Jean Grey.
Based on the amount of mess she has pulled by herself,.. and the obvious superiority in telepathy she exibited compared to when betsy's power went from TP to TK and back to TP,
(Betsy Braddock is no slouch as a telepath,.. but the white Queen has done greater feats.)
I have to say She is a "Strong" telepath.

How does an uber-telepath not know when another uber-telepath returns to prominence on the Astral plane?
Doesn't work that way.
It's an area effect and only if you are cruising the Astral Plane while physically located close to them.

Or something along those lines. They've been talking in interviews about how the X-men will be less of a family and more of an army.

Generally depending who draws her she looks like Justafiable sexual assualt or the quiet lady in the living room, slut in the bedroom.
X-factors been drawing her like the kind of quiet girls I knew in highschool and college who would act shy and subdued until you got them into bed - Then they commence to try to snap it off at the root.

"Rogue will definitely be in the mix, though. And yeah, what I said about her story resolving in MESSIAH COMPLEX still stands. There *is* a major, major resolution there, and a lot of things all come together. But I've got an idea for a further story launching out of that resolution, and I really want to tell it..."

Jean Grey without her Phoenix power trumps Emma in use of telepathy any day
Agreeing to disagree,..
Emma is able to swap out your mind for hers on the fly and have complete control of your body,.. up to and including the use of your powers,
(Storm and Iceman)
Once Emma has been in your head she remembers how you were "wired" and if need be can reconfigure your mind to give you back your powers WHEN THE GENE SEQUENCE THAT GOVERNS THOSE POWERS HAS BEEN REMOVED.
(Iceman)
Bobby Drake is no longer a Mutant. Emma remembered how his mind was configured when he was a mutant and reconfigured his brain to give him Ice Powers.
It's a small enough leap,.. she could trace the wiring and give others variations on Icemans power.
Jean Grey was only a telepath "recently" in current canon,.. that part of her powers were taken offline by the professor when she was a little girl, and was only brought back shortly before the first manifistation of the phoenix.
Jean grey was a telepath true,... but not half as long in use or doing stuff on the scale of the white queen UNTIL she became the phoenix.

Wrong. Now, while this was a godawful move on the writer's part, and even worse that the editors for whatever ridiculous reason let Milligan do this, Milligan nonetheless do it.
And while I hate Milligan's run, I've sadly been unable to forget it. Iceman was never depowered on M-Day. Well, Claremont probably intended for him to be in the one-shot "The Day After," but Milligan had that retconned immediately. Iceman was never a depowered mutant. Rather, the explanation given in Milligan's own title was that he "thought he was," or some trash, and basically blocked himself off from accessing his own powers. This is what Emma changed.
Emma didn't somehow recreate his X-gene or bypass its being gone. It's still there.

Jean has also swapped out her mind into another person's body. She did that with Emma back in UXM 281. In UXM 381, she used her TP to acces Cable's TK and was able to use it on a molecular level to change their appearances. She did the same thing a few issues later when the team went to Russia. This was before the return of the Phoenix Force in New X-men. After Onslaught, it was stated that Jean was THE most powerful telepath with Xavier being depowered. Again no Phoenix then. Emma may be powerful, but she is not as powerful Jean is
Jean only became a telepath "recently". I understand your use of the quotes but she's had her TP intact since she was about 18 yrs old! She's had it for about 23 or so MU years (thats taken into account Adventures of C&P and early X-Factor) Theres nothing recent about her TP

First: I'm honestly surprised to be on this side of the convo,... defending the white queen. If there is one woman i wanted slapped silly when she first appeared right up to when she "became a hero" it's her. But here I am defending her.
Second: My bad,. I missed that issue where they retconned what she did with seconds before Bobby would've had his brains blown out.
Even so,... she was still pulling stuff that you didn't see other telepaths doing until after Jean had been Phoenix.

Were not ALL your examples after Phoenix? As in the "return" was really already here but set on a low burn until the rest of me (phoenix) could get back?
Or did they retconn this too?
(I'm one of the ones tired of them putting down history,.. then coming back with variations on : that's not what really happened - this is what happened garbage.)
And the TP timeframe,.. I'll be clear,... Jean has always been a telepath, Emma has been an operating telepath for much longer and has done more impressive stuff with it.
Finally,.... if she were so weak, (emma),... why have they hit her with the phoenix force twice?
And then her daughters the stepford coo coo's or whatever they will be calling themselves?

Yes all my examples are after she got the Phoenix Force but none of them are when she actually posessed it. Of course she was shown as weak pre-Phoenix. It was a different timeline. In the 60s, for the most part ALL female heroines were weak compared to their male counterparts. That was just a sign of the times. It wasnt until Claremont came in the 70s, did things start to change. Had Emma been created in the 60s as opposed to the 80s, she would have suffered bc of the mentality of the business back then
I never once said that Emma was weak. I said that she wasnt as powerful as Jean, Phoenix or no Phoenix and I stand by that.

Can I refer to Uncanny X-men 452. After Emma and Rachel's mind dual the conversation goes as follows:
Rachel: I don't get it. My powers are off the charts.
Emma: Power isnt the key for the likes of us. It's skill and training and will. All of which I have in abbundance. Whatever you believe, Marvel Girl, whatever the future may hold, you are nto my equal.
Through this explanation we can see that a worth of a telepath isn't in their strength but in their skill, training, will and imagination. This means that arguing Emma's mental strength is pointless really, you should be arguing her skill which is undoubetdly very high.
In regards to Jean I personally think that her telepathy lacks the fine skill that Emam has but what she lacks in skill she makes up for in her will. I'm not saying she's unskilled just that Emma has more experience with her teleptahy but Emma lacks the same will as Jean.

I liked Carey's experiment with Lady M. And you also can't discount the fact that him including her on the team, along with the rest of the villains, served a purpose. I think his agenda from the start with his lineup was to have them be completely dismantled from within. He knew what was going to happen with the team as soon as he formed it. Before I knew Lady M was going to turn on the team, she actually won me over. I went from wondering why Carey would include such a random character on his team to being glad he dug her out from limbo. Of course, we all found out why he did all this in 200. I think she kind of fills the void Emma left when she turned good guy...hot ruthless blonde. Moral of the story is that Carey always had an agenda with his run on X-Men.
On the other hand, Hepzibah needs to go back to being lost in space.

and thats been one of the problems with the X-men books for the past few years. Its always the same characters. Few writers like to venture out and bring in some existing characters who have never had a chance on the X-men lineup. Yes UXM has Warpath. I dont recall count Hepzibah bc the current lineup is more of an intermittent team. I dont think she will be there for long
I also dont count Hisako, bc she kind of tagged along. I dont see her being an active member once they return to earth as she is still just a student

I hope they don't end the book. If anything, I'd rather them re-name it:
X-men: X-Force.
And if they must have a new number one, at least they should do what they did a few years ago. They have the new number with the old number next to it.
X-Men: X- Force...i don't like that title...i like where your head is at though.

That's a bad title.
I wouldn't mind seeing them do with this title, ASSUMING it is to be canceled, what DC is doing with their Outsiders title. It's becoming Batman and the Outsiders and restarting its numbering, I believe.

I can kinda of get behind that...but um...keep him in Excalibur...but the cord between that book and the other X-titles needs to be cut...make Excalibur more integrated into the Marvel U....but Captain Britain does not need to be an X-Man...an Avenger...perhaps....Defender...Thunderbolt..catch my drift? something along those lines....his sister is the X-ma..er, Woman...she belongs in the X-titles...but only barely. lol

I hope Carey adds Monet, Husk, or even Random to the team.
Though I know the chances are slim, I have no choice but to notice
how many people on the forums actually don't like M. Not just on this forum,
but on a couple others. If they are thinking of getting rid of her, I wouldn't
mind Rogue absorbing her powers and staying with them. That would
make Rogue the tank she was and kill off someone who so many people
seem to have a problem with. M is my 2nd favorite mutant, and I know people
can't stand her lil' miss perfect attitude, but I didn't think so many readers
would actually dislike her. I actually remember her being more of a pain in the
butt during the Gen-X books. She's gotten less annoying since then IMO.

What makes Monet boring is her numerous powers, if Rogue absorbs her then Rogue will become boring as well, I still think Miss Marvel's powers work best for her, but I doubt it that Carol would be glad to become Rogue's power source again.
masterj
08-27-2007, 08:55 AM
Am I the only one that wants Rogue to just have her own powers? I like Rogue when all she can do is absorb the abilities of others. If they write her liek this though she needs to learn some new fighting skills and what not.
And Rogue should keep her hands off M. M's too great to be killed off.
El Bastardo
08-27-2007, 11:00 AM
Rogue having her "own" powers is exactly why I'd put her on a strike team like X-Force would assumedly be. The versatility is grand. But, unfortunately, I think that's why a lot of writers want her to permanently absorb powers. I don't mind the "classic" Rogue with Ms. Marvel powers so much, but Sunfire-Rogue sucked. And will always suck.

But Bishop's always been about mutants policing their own... in an effort to keep 616 from becoming what his own reality was.
He's trying to save mutants by keeping them from flying off the handle and helping to create the horrid future he's seen.
I think it adds a complex level to his character, personally.

Can someone try and decipher what's going on in these pages?
I see the Mansion is trashed, but where is the X-jet landing?
If by mentioning "decipher" you think it's unclear, then... wow.
It's really not. It's pretty easy. But nowhere in the art does it show the Mansion trashed. If you're thinking about the burning area, that's the place where the Marauders ambushed Rogue's team and Cyclops's team.
As for where the Blackbird is landing, who knows? Wherever Cannonball/Iceman/prisoner-Sunfire were sent by Emma, last issue.
I LOOOOVE Ramos's Beast...and is that Brown haired girl Kitty?
Ramos's Beast rocks, most assuredly. Like most of his character renditions. :woot: And you know that's Kitty, my little Outcry. Come over to my side of things. It's so much nicer. Come. Love the Ramos. Loooooove it.
