At least we agree on the artist, Gambit-hater. ;)

Besides Cassaday, Chris has GOT to be the best X-artist right now. His flow is so cool looking and I really like his unique style.

aaron
11-25-2006, 05:35 PM
Chris is in my top five artists of all time.

Snikt 6
11-25-2006, 05:44 PM
^ Wow, top 5 ever huh? Well my top five (in no real order): Cassaday, Kubert, Byrne, Alan Davis & Yeah, put Chris in my top 5. His work on Gen X really was awesome and he has been around awhile.

aaron
11-25-2006, 05:44 PM
Mmhmm... Bachalo and Jim Lee are the only definites on my top 5.

Snikt 6

Lee was awesome, but I kinda got tired of his stuff after a while......

And I was starting to like you! Hehe. :(

Snikt 6

You gotta admit Jim Lee/Mcfarlane/Liefield were really overplayed. I think he is an amazing artist, and I really love the X-Men issues he did, but after awhile of him doing DC & Wildcats.....he just got watered down. Today we have so many diffrent X-titles that we get to see so many good artists (Chris) and a few bad ones (the dude on Wolverine).

aaron
11-25-2006, 06:09 PM
It's okay, I understand... I liked Stuart Immonen on Ultimate X-Men.

Kevin D. Comicboy

Mcfarlane = Best Amazing Spider-man artist ever.
Byrne = Best "anytypeof" X-men artist ever.:up:

Chris work im still not convinced on. There are some panels that look brilliant, but some i have no idea whats going on at all. IT can get a bit muddled and confusing looking at times.

I still think his work looks a lot better in Digital format than paper format for some reason.

(+my top5... Lee, MAD, Larocca, Silvestri, Kubert. I loved Churchills designs and work aswell, but he buggerd off after 3 issues of uncanny.. and in the middle of his first Arc, which i think is frankly unproffesional and lame also.)

aaron
11-25-2006, 06:54 PM
Yeah, sometimes I'm like WTF?! in panels.

ghost113
11-25-2006, 07:12 PM
I wonder what bachalo's work would look like with a different colorists?

Kevin D. Comicboy
11-25-2006, 07:17 PM
Yeah, I blame the colorist(s). it just looks so muddled sometimes.

ghost113
11-25-2006, 07:20 PM
they should get a different artist besides clayton henry.

Kevin D. Comicboy
11-25-2006, 07:27 PM
Wait, he fills in for both titles? god i'm slow.

aaron

I didn't know that either, we're both slow then. :(

Pick up X-Factor.. tis better than even Astonishing

Ummmm.....nope. Astonishing is just outstanding. Now it has its flaws (delays, delays and delays) but other than that it is just a great read. Joss and Cassaday are a great team and if you want a really fun read and want to just sit back and read a great story....Astonishing is where you should go.

BTW Larocca is simplya amazing also. Wish we could get him to fill in instead of Henry....

aaron
11-25-2006, 09:01 PM
I think Larroca's gone downhill.

Snikt 6
11-25-2006, 09:04 PM
I think Larroca's gone downhill.

Wha....why? He still does great work. His work on Extreme was amazing, and he is just incredible.

aaron
11-25-2006, 09:06 PM
Yeah... I liked his Xtreme stuff, but... man, did you see his work on the second Ultimate X-Men annual? Amazing...ly bad.

Snikt 6
11-25-2006, 09:08 PM
Yeah... I liked his Xtreme stuff, but... man, did you see his work on the second Ultimate X-Men annual? Amazing...ly bad.

Now you see you got me....because I steer clear of all things Ultimate. So to honestly answer your question, hope havent seen it. Its that bad though?

aaron
11-25-2006, 09:09 PM
Mmhmm... just really plain and basic, doesn't look like he put much effort into it at all.

Snikt 6
11-25-2006, 09:12 PM
Kinda crazy how someone can be so talented...and not even try. I mean, they get paid cash money for this stuff right? I guess after years and years of doing this it might start to get stale....but still, they do get paid. Well, I will stick to my guns and still hope that Larocca would make an outstanding artist on the X-books again, even if it is to fill in for the current guys.

aaron
11-25-2006, 09:14 PM
I just hope Bachalo is on this book for as long as possible, I know he said he wants to pencil for it until they kick him off, so he's happy doing it... same goes for Mike Carey, I love the guy and what he's done, especially to Rogue... and he and Chris' styles mesh so, so well.

Snikt 6
11-25-2006, 09:18 PM
I know, which really suprised me. I loved Bachalo from back in the day, but I had no idea it would be this good. Astonishing is still my #1, but X-Men has really moved past all others X books for me. I love it and I actually look forward to the Wednesday's it comes out. I really wish they didn't have to use a fill in artist though, kind of a let down from the stuff I am used to. I love the team and the staff....just a great read.

aaron
11-25-2006, 09:21 PM
I'm not looking forward to Ramos' fill-in. :(

Snikt 6
11-25-2006, 09:25 PM
Oh my goodness gracious.....don't remind me. He is the guy who draw's Wolverine right now, right? Ugh. I really really really hope he doesnt last long as the fill in guy. What a bad choice. I really dont want to see Rogue with a neck as long as her forearm.

aaron
11-25-2006, 09:26 PM
I'm not sure, don't read Wolverine... been fed up with the character since The Last Stand.

He's pencilling 195-98 if I remember correctly, so 3 months of hell. :(

Snikt 6
11-25-2006, 09:30 PM
If you have not seen the latest Wolvie issues....don't. Do your self a favor and smell some roses or something. 3 issues huh? Just glad Chris will be back in time for issue 200.

Now why in the world are you fed up with comic Wolvie just because X3? Wolvies a great character, and if you pick up the lastest Astonishing stuff I think you will get a kick out of it.

aaron
11-25-2006, 09:32 PM
Because he's at the front and centre of everything... Logan taking Scott's place in the Phoenix Saga in The Last Stand was the last straw... I'm fed up with him.

Snikt 6
11-25-2006, 09:35 PM
Now, he can't help it if Scott goes off and gets himself vaporized, now can he? I see why people could get fed up with Logan, but I just think its cool how his character can just....well take over. Now THAT is a great character.

I like the fact that Carey is getting Wolverine in the pages of X-Men also, good stuff.

aaron
11-25-2006, 09:38 PM
Well of course Scott couldn't be there since he was supposedly vaporised, hehe... but my point is, the screenwriters were told Wolverine had to be the lead yet again... and because of this, they couldn't be faithful to the comics at all, giving Wolvie Scott's place in the Phoenix Saga.

Snikt 6
11-25-2006, 09:44 PM
Yeah, I can see why people (or at least the fans that know what in the world should be going on) could be upset, but don't take it out on good ol Logan. Im tellin you, pick up Astonishing and you wont put it down.

aaron
11-25-2006, 09:46 PM
I know I wouldn't, hehe... I really like Whedon's style.

Snikt 6
11-25-2006, 09:49 PM
At first it was frustrating (never really got into Buffy) but man, once I got used to his style it has been great. That is what happend with Carey also, never really read his stuff, but now he has just rocked on X-Men.

aaron
11-25-2006, 09:51 PM
Well I love Whedon's wit... I do actually have 1-3... the Cure storyline.

Snikt 6
11-25-2006, 09:58 PM
So all you read is X-Men? How do you pull that off? I kinda get wrapped up in almost all the X-titles.

aaron
11-25-2006, 10:04 PM
Because I like minimalism, I stick to X-Men, Daredevil and Moon Knight.

Snikt 6
11-25-2006, 10:06 PM
You just like only those characters or is it the writers that you like? I am just an X-Men fan, so I kinda like reading most of the titles. Did you choose to read X-Men becuse of the lineup or Carey?

aaron
11-25-2006, 10:18 PM
I read X-Men before Carey... started reading it 'cos it was the title Gambit was in, and I've kept faithful to it... and I like the characters of Daredevil and Moon Knight, plus David Finch is drawing Moon Knight, and I love him too.

I despise Bachalo's art. There's only been one issue that I liked since he started on this book, and not even the entire book because he can't even stick to one inker. All his faces, especially the women, look the same, many of his body parts look out of proportion(look at some of his men, they look like they have absolutely no waists), he can never seem to draw a joint correctly 'cause his elbows especially suck, it can be ridiculously hard to try and figure out what the hell is going on in most of his action scenes, and he constantly throws in completely uneccessary crap that is not needed and only serves to crowd up the panels making it even harder to distinguish what is going on. That is not the mark of a good artist to me, especially when I have to sit there an extra 10 minutes just trying to figure it out. It ruins the stories for me because I have to step out of them and go analytical instead of just enjoying them. Ramos is worse, but not by much.

And with Larocca, yeah, his stuff suffered on some of his last issues of X-Men, but he seemed to be in an experimental period, since it seemed to change issue to issue, but his new stuff coming up for Newuniversal looks great.

Carey really is awesome. Looking at his website he really has impressed me on how much he actually cares about his line of work. Really down to earth and really fun to read. Still not 100% about bringing Sabertooth and Mystique into the fold, but I suppose I am not suppose to be. With this team, or at least this line-up I think Forge would make an awesome behind the scenes character.

Nah, I agree on the proportion arguement, that could be improved... and I think the multiple inkers was due to time restraints.

And I like having to look at the panel, trying to figure out what's going on, 'cos in the process you might find things you realised weren't present if you didn't look and process the visual with such detail.

Normally, I go back anyway. I like to go through and enjoy the story first, and then go back and see if there's any little stuff that I didn't pick up on before. With Bachalo, I have trouble just getting the basics down because he throws too much crap in that is completely unneeded, that it overpowers what is needed and then I don't want to go back and sift through the crap.

A friend of mine posted spoilers for #193 on another site... Read on if you dare (For those in need of a link, you'll find out the truth on Wednesday):

Fans of The Children: There are a whole lot more than we thought... Also, start planning a memorial service. Namely for Sangre, Fuego, Ajuga, and (this will break a lot of people's hearts) Serafina. Perro got out of the melee alive. Let me go into the finer details of each kill. Oh yea, and small warning, people who are uncomfortable with some of the X-men showing brutal or ruthless behavior will not be pleased. You'd probably be surprised by who it comes from though. (Although I guess it's understandable in some ways.)

Ajuga: got taken out by... ahem... as Lady Mastermind would put it "friendly fire". She cast an illusion to get Ajuga into position, then cast another illusion that made Fuego think that Cable and Lady M were in her place. The poor perky bubble-blowing blonde gets fried.

Rogue: was dueling with Fuego, until Bobby comes in and puts out his lights, while Fuego exclaims that it isn't possible, he killed him, and Bobby remarks that he's returning the favor. Steam and a pillar of ice.

Serafina: has her fun with Karima by making her shoot at Mystique, until Sabretooth comes up and tells her something along the lines of, "there's something special in killing women". Serafina informs him of the nanosentinels in his blood, manipulates them, then retorts with "there's something special in killing misogynists", before Sam comes in. He calls her Sarah, asks why she's doing this, they've spent 20 years of their lives together, and he loves her/they love each other. She tells him that her name is Serafina, they've only spent 20 minutes of their lives together, it wasn't real, and she made him fall in love with her. He responds with, that's all he needed to hear, before he rockets off with her, zinging around the deck, before slamming her hard into the floor.

Sangre: He retreats to the captain's quarters and prepares to make the ship ram the Institute in a final kamikaze-style manuever, when "Serafina" comes in and asks why he has run away, before she pulls out a gun and shoots him. As you might have guessed, it's Mystique. Sangre says that they should know by now that bullets don't do anything to him, but surprise, surprise, someone's done their homework (maybe Forge?), and they're thermite bullets, that have the nice little side effect of turning water into hydrogen before they detonate. And boy do they detonate! Mystique breaks the window and leaps out, she looks like she's got nowhere to go but down, until Bobby ice-slides in to sweep her off her feet.

Cable: Well, while Mystique was off pretending to be him, he went and blew up the suncatcher dish, as seen in the preview. That's basically all you see of him.

Is that the last we've seen of The Children?: The answer is no. Remember Cadena from the Agent M article from the Marvel site? AKA goldfishbowl head? Well now she's the new big baddie leader head honcho thingamabobber, of a race of 3000 people. Yea, 3000 people who are really pissed that their vanguards got taken out by a group of rag-tag vigilantes currently flying under the colors of the X-men. All the corpses below deck? Animals that have been gene-altered to be given human shape, to mislead the X-men to thinking that their species is now extinct. I think it's safe to say that Rogue and her little group have a lot of work ahead of them. Too bad they've got the small matter of a man named Pandemic to handle first in the next arc.

And people who have been waiting for Sabretooth to stab someone in the back: he tells Sam as he puts his arm around him, thanks for coming to his rescue, but the next time he turns his back on him, he's dead. I guess he's not very happy about the nano-sentinels, huh?

Yeah but if that was the case...

Writers would have tot find a way to resurrect a villain everytime they want to do "The menacing return of....". I can understand banishment to another dimension, or something along that line, (and yeah, I know it's cliche'd) but only in some circumstances should it be absolutely necessary for the X-Men to kill villains. I mean, look at all the other storylines we would have missed out on if the X-Men had killed Magneto on their first mission.

And about the rest... I guess that's the reason why they're gonna move out of the mansion and be more "outlaw" than the regular X-Men, which is what Carey said they would do. I find it refreshing and interesting... though it does sound too much like the concept for the original X-Force...

In a way the concept does seem like the original X-Force, but without the whole cover up thing. And I like the fact that this team has to make the kind of "sacrafices" Colossal Spoons mentioned, in order to get the job done. After all, if the threat is on a global scale, why shouldn't they do whatever it takes to insure the safety of the population...

Wow.... One more day until #193 comes out!!! I can't wait.

Actually, I can't wait until issue #195. So I can see what Carey is talking about with his "ice crystals" theory. But enough about Iceman...

I was expecting Cable to be used more in this story. Especially with all the hype of him joining the team. I guess he does have a pivotal role in all of this, but I guess I shouldn't complain, since I never really liked the character anyway.

I'm also glad to see the darker side of Sabertooth, than in previous books. Although I'd really like to know more about his misogynist mentality, and need to kill anything that breathes. How he and Mystique got together is anothre mystery I'd like to find out. Guess it should be interesting when he sees Iceman moving in on her... That is, if Sabertooth leaves the team before they actually get together.

I'll also be glad when "Robo-chick" and "Mastermind Girl" take a hike. For some reason, they really feel out of place on the team. Mike really needs to bring back some of the reserve X-Men that have been out of circulation for a while, and make them a permanent part of the team.

I am excited to see where Carey will take this team. The "Outlaw" tag is all good, but do Iceman and Cannonball really belong on that type of team....

I really don't think Cable belongs on this team, just seems out of place to me. Maybe behind the scene's in the Mansion or something.

I kind of like what I have seen of Lady Mastermind, I wouldnt mind her sticking around. There are so many characters that could shine in this book, and with Carey's writing any character could start to look good.

^Gotta be Bobby, right? I mean, who else makes sense?

That's what I've been saying for a while. I think the thing with Mystique is a ploy to make us think they are getting together, but in reality, she (Mystique) is probably setting him up to go after Rogue.

They were close friends at one time, and they both understand each others problems very well. Mystique has been known to try an play matchmaker and homewrecker in the past, so this theory kind of makes sense.

And here's why: Rogue's been with Gambit for years, yet nothing positive has come out of it. He's cheated on her before, and he's also tried to injur her as well. Bobby is the "boy next door" type that needs a girl like Rogue, because of her "down home" personality, and she's grounded. You also have to remember that he tried to care for her a few years back after she absorbed Remy's powers, and she was trying to confront him. Plus, in Milligain's last remaining books, Bobby was trying to protect her yet again from Gambit/Horseman.

It's obvious that Rogue is tired of the games Remy has been playing over the years, and wants someone steady. Bobby has had a history of failed relationships, but also believes Rogue can do better... If that's not two people reaching out to each other, I don't know what is.

Not only that, but it kind of ties in to the whole X-Men movie thing, as well as the Ultimate X-Men book too.

So far, Mike Carey is taking a "true to life" approach to his characters. And eventually, if he's on this book long enough, he will write the Rogue/Gambit relationship similar to a real world approach. People have ups and downs in relationships all the time. And with the amount of abuse each character has had over the decades with each other, it would seem only natural for them to go their own separate ways... I mean, look at Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown. Some people thought they were inseperable. That is, until one of them couldn't take the abuse anymore.

With the way relationships are today, do people honestly think two people can be together for that long? You really have tot step out of the box on this one and think of these people as real to some degree. Sure, it's all a fantasy, but if written with real world issues, Rogue and Gambit wouldn't be together today... Which they aren't. But to think they could last for 30 years or more is completely unrealistic.

First of all, good stuff about the Bobby and Rogue connection, I'm with you on that one. He is there, good guy and all and Rogue needs someone good....perfect match.

Now about your observation above, I must disagree. Now you talk about relationships that do not last, or can not last, but I ask.....why not? I mean really, isn't that one of the good things we have as we go through life, hope? I mean really, it is alot of work and it is not always easy, but it is so worth it. Take Scott and Jean, they are a true couple. True some writers thought they were "stale" or stagnat, but I disagree. Couples will go through spells of time where they just get by, but when a struggle comes or a trial they can draw on each other to get through it. Now it might be because I am Mormon and belive that marriages can be for "time and eternity" (yeah, I really do belive that you can be with your spouse & children for this life...and all that follows it) but I like to see couples last. Rogue and Remy had sparks....but was there fire? It just seemed like Rogue always got burned. Scott & Jean - yep fire there, and that was because they worked at it. Scott & Emma is a relationship that I have a problem with, just because what it is based on, and how it started. Bottom line is we need to hope our relationships last, because it is a relationship that truly can last even beyond this life, IMO.

I'm not sure how young you guys are, but all relationships go through a "honeymoon" period. Meaning, that they all start off great, and as time passes, you start to see little things about the other person that either annoy you, conflict with your lifestyle, or they're too demanding. And not to sound bitter or anything, because I'm not... But to honestly go in to a relationship thinking it's going to last forever is a hope and a dream.

Are there exceptions to the rule.... YES. But the reality here is that most relationships don't last a lifetime. Unless it's an arranged marriage, or divorce is not a part of that culture. Even then, people still cheat, or murder their spouses just to get out of marriage to that person.

The Rogue and Gambit relationship belongs in one of those romance novels, because that's all people see... An over thought idea to keep two people together, despite their obvious personality differences. It's failed miserably over the years, so people should move on and think of other people Rogue and Gambit could be with to make them happy.

To be honest, I'd be highly disappointed if Mike Carey did something like that. He's just establishing himself to the readers that don't know his work outside of X-Men, and to have him do something as uncreative as that idea would show how little his creative talent truly is.

Is it just me that thought that the x-men seemed uncarachteristically bloodthirsty? i know theyve got sabretooth and lady mastermind on the team now... but even Bobby and Sam seemed to apparently be killing in cold blood. Sam especially, slamming some girl repeatedly through walls, who hed moments before thought hed been in a serious relationship with. seemingly killing her outright rather than even trying to stun or subdue her. It just seemed crazily violent for him and kinda unnerving :S. also... what was keeping the ship afloat at the end? i thought maybe one of the x-men had found the controls.. but mystique had blown up the entire control room.

In this case, it's not a Bachalo's issue, cause either way (I mean, Rogues's absorbing or using her own) it wouldn't (COULDN'T) be expressed by the artist's lines. How could you show that? I think everything was happening at that moment: Roguey was absorbing the Child's powers AND using her own (Solaris' own) ate the same time.

Yup, I mean it's like Brubaker's trying to build up this gigantic, epic, out of proportion story and it's so gigantic, epic and out of proprotion (:yay: ) that it doesn't get me ... at all. I like the pencils, but not so much the writing.

With X-Men you just have this strange strange group of people, lead by a notorious schizofrenic (hope I wrote this one correctly) that is Rogue (and that's why I love her originally). Everytime she gets inside the green cloak and the scene gets all dark, I can feel the mansion's mood, and it's like I'm one of the X-guys, right there with them.

I can't explain. Adjectiveless's the best X-book for me. Its got something.
I'm definitely having fun reading that and waiting for the next issue.
So it's Astonishing/Adjectiveless # 1, and Uncanny # 2.

^What a difference a little bit of effort makes. It really seems like Carey has taken time to realy think about where this team is headed, and just got lucky and got a great artist to "show" his story. With some writers I just feel they are getting the issue over with so they can work on the next one, IMO. X-Men comics are ment to be fun, exciting and have some type of morals attached to the story, again IMO.

I just wished Astonishing could come out when it is suppose to.....

PiotrRasputin

That's the issue with Astonishing. It's not out when it's supposed to be, it takes a long time and continuity gets lost. I used to list my favorite x-books like you did: Astonishing#1, X-Men#2 and Uncanny#3.
But due to the constant time gaps, Adjectiveless kept growing on me. It has such a great style, in every way.

What was a little confusing was if Bobby was extinguishing Fuego from the inside out, or consuming him with mist. Haha! I don't see it as being Like Chris' at all really.

In all honesty, I completely forgot someone else was also doing this book. I was so caught up in looking at the spoilers everyone was dishing out that I completely ignored the art variation..... That is, until I took a look at Iceman's weird "squiggly lines" look. Which I kind of find funny and comical with no color contrast.

Although I would agree with Specter313 on the similarities. After all, it had me fooled, until I reached page 15 (the Iceman page).

The Uncanny Storyline and X-men Supernova are better story arcs than the Astonishing X-men books this year,I like Astonishing but the wait just drags down the storyline. I pick it up and read then I just go, is this what I've been wating for?.........This book is on schedule and has great writing behind them..the action in this book was a bit confusing it took me a while to get the picture right...but next up is Uncanny X-men...then 2 months later Astonishing!!!

Those last couple lines in the article are suggestive arent they? So their new base is going to be floating around the country/world in a tanker? Bit SHIELD hellicarrier, but it could work. Of course when Nate started moving about the world in Providence, and Thor floats over New York in a stone city, people get antsy - same thing would happen here wouldnt it?

Of course, it does also take us back a bit to the days of the original X-Factor, and Ship - that was good. I'm assuming those preview pages by Ramos with Cyke talking to Nate and Sam are them fixing up the tanker to be habitable and more techno.

And I thought it was just me.... But you also have to consider, Bachalo is steadily cranking these things out. And for him to do this much for an entire arc can be a bit much for any one person. Let's also not forget that he's also doing the inking on some of these.

You know... You either love Ramos' work, or you hate it. I'm not a big fan of his wide-eyed, wide-mouthed expressions, and disproportionate body parts, but sometimes he can produce some decent work (I said "SOMETIMES"). The detail and colors in this piece are far more vivid than in Bachalo's entire arc. Which is great, because Bachalo blazed the trail for this darker team, whereas Ramos is lightening the mood with a well earned rest for the team... Well, kind of.

I don't like his Iceman on the cover, but I am kind of digging him on this page. I'm just hoping Carey will write him using other modes of transportation, now that he's increased his flexibility with his powers.

To answer a query. Yes that is Scott in the red glasses. It doesn't look like Sam liked what he had to say. in that final panel between the two. I am really enjoying this new Sam under Carey. He's doing great advancements with most if not all the characters under his direct control.

Well the next arc is all about Pan and the hospital that Lady Mastermind and Karima were found at. Once the arc is over and the bad guys are defeated those two will probably be on their way out.

That leaves one last character to leave. While I love Sabretooth on the book and he does add an edge I'm pretty sure he will leave and Cable will stick around. I just can't see a way for him to stay around with the X-Men for longer then an arc or two.

I love X-Men, I really dig Carey's writing and I relly enjoy looking at Bachalo's art. But, man Ramos is the last person I wanted to work on this book, I knew this day was coming, but I didn't want to believe it. Have you seen his work on Wolverine? Check out the preview pages - look at his Lady Mastermind....ugh. It just seems Ramos rushes his art. Bachalo really can draw the characters well (except for Beast) but all of Ramos' women are just....blah. Again, did you see his Lady Mastermind? Bad, bad stuff. I think that Storm & Blackpanther should join, besides I recently
read that they are supposed to be in a new "family" :woot:
And a lot of her fans feel it doesn't have to do with babies:ninja:
So having Storm back on a team w/ Rogue would be hot.
It would be the first time Rogue was leading above Storm :woot: :hyper:
Other then that, I would love Husk, she'd be in the team w/ her brother.:yay:

Interesting thought......it would be weird seeing Storm and Black Panther join the "front line" X-team. I like Storm, and she might fit in, but the Black Panther is to much of a leader....he might clash with Rogue a bit to much. Cool thought though.
