I know very little about game design, but even I doubt two months would be enough time to add more characters unless the extra characters were clones. Sakurai wanted the characters to all be balanced, and making sure none of the characters are too strong or too weak takes a lot of time to get right. I honestly see no more than about 3 characters being added in at the last minute, but the people on Smashboards and GameFAQS are crazy if they think Nintendo will be adding 10 more characters to the final roster in the little time we have left. Just because it feels to us like an eternity, doesn't mean they have all the time in the world to put that much in the game. If anything, the extra time has been used to triple-check what's already in the game, add subtle changes, and maybe make clone characters (I would imagine clone characters wouldn't take too long to make. Even Sakurai said that Falco in Melee was extremely last minute and took no time to make, being a clone of Fox).

What Sakurai could do is give us an update later down the line after te game has been released telling us exactly what was done to the game during the delay so we can see how much the wait was worth.

I don't beleive it. Sega went on to say that Sonic was not Brawl in the very same language that Capcom is saying. Yet Sonic ended up in it anyways.

And I beleive that Sonic was in it right from the very get go, they just announced him early so that people wouldn't complain when Nintendo announced the delay that day.

Well there is a flaw in your theory:

1. I really doubt that any F-Zero characters asides from Captain Falcon will end up being playable.

2. The Mario franchise has Mario, Princess Peach, Yoshi, Bowser, and Wario. Luigi is bound to get a spot too.

3. Some series just have only one possible character you can play as that would make sense in this game. The Ice Climbers from Ice Climbers, Pit from Kid Icarus, and Samus from Metroid. Sorry Ridley fans, but as the parody stated beforehand, Ridley is just too big in mass for this game.

4. The Pokemon franchise is bound to get Jigglypuff and Mewtwo back in the game along with Pikachu and the Pokemon trainer.

5. Roy or Marth might return, but Roy and Marth certainly isn't going to happen. It'll probably be just two characters from the Fire Emblem series.

i think more accurately he is trying to say that in every MAJOR franchise of nintendo, will be represented by at least 2 characters..

It's misdirection. Sakurai doesn't want to reveal anymore characters (especially since the only characters left are the secret characters) before the game is released. Sakurai getting Yeji to say, "Megaman isn't in brawl," will SURPRISE us when we find out he is.

Not to mention Captain Falcon was an unlockable in SSB64 alongside Ness, and with things like the entrances and Bumper amongst other elements from the N64 game being put in Brawl, making Falcon and maybe Ness if he's not cut unlockable wouldn't be too farfetched. In everything else that I could see, he was either just a little too big (twice the size of Samus) or absolutely enormous (taking up a full room). So really, there IS quite a bit of variation as far as Ridley's size goes too - which really suggests that it COULD work, since Bowser was able to work in much the same way.:yay:

Ok, I'm not trying to get attention here or anything, but I've got some insider news.

I can't give proof, and if I could I wouldn't. I thought it was bull until Monday.

I was told there was a stage creator. So far, this news has been correct. So check this out...

He said Wolf was in the game. (I don't even like Wolf, so I don't care.)

Falco is returning.

Ganondorf is returning.

Captain Falcon is returning.

Lucario is taking Mewtwo's Place.

Ness is returning.

Zelda can turn into Sheik.

And there are these items called "Dragoon Parts" I did some research and apparently they're from Kirby's Air Ride. Supposedly, if you collect all three parts you can do some devastating move where you control a crosshair and do a crazy rush or something.

Oh and Final Destination is back.

I wish there was more info squeezed out, but there wasn't. If you don't want to believe, don't. I know there's a lot more to be revealed besides this anyway. Let time prove it, as it has begun to.

he's a catchable legendary...

Arcanine, Lapras, Eevee are also considered legendary... theres plenty of legendary pokemon that arn't the extremely rare ones and ones you can easily get multiples of

Lucario isn't legendary, he's just one of those Pokémon you only get one of (aside from breeding) per save file, ala Lapras, Eevee, and Snorlax (though Snorlax is catchable twice in Red/Blue and remakes of those two).

Lucario also sucks, and will only be included due to his high popularity with the Japanese fans, the same way that Jigglypuff and Pikachu became the mascots of the Pokémon brand.

Personally I never cared for Mewtwo in Melee, so I don't care if he is out. The only reason I might want him to stay in is because he is the only real Pokemon that acted as a villian to the early series.

Lucario though, might be a good addition. On top of that the new generation needs to have a rep, and considering his popularity in Japan, it would almost be a no brainer.

And also, I don't think we have seen the final roster at all. I guaruntee Sakurai wants to keep some hidden until the release day, so I don't think we'll know that whole lineup until then, or at least until the Japanese release, and someone posts the lineup online for us.

I hope that rumor is right though, since it means my Ness is safe...but alas, I fear it's not so.:csad:

It's the spot-on accuracy of the Dragoon description that really makes this seem quite credible. For those familiar with Kirby's Air Ride, the Dragoon was the ultimate vehicle, but from nowhere in the game could one derive its purpose as seen in Brawl. I'm hard-pressed to believe that Ness will be returning and I'm not sure about Wolf being in it that doesn't seem likely, but the Dragoon description was accurate which is why I haven't completely disregarded this.

It is true. Pokemon WAS a world-wide phenomenon 10 years ago. From 1999-2001 it was huge. Then it's popularity died down. If you're going to use the games it sold, toys, and cartoons to prove it's popularity then Mario is in the same boat as Zelda. As it Manic said, Pokemon is just more marketable.

The official website doesn't even have a release date. I'd guess early to mid March.

It is true. Pokemon WAS a world-wide phenomenon 10 years ago. From 1999-2001 it was huge. Then it's popularity died down. If you're going to use the games it sold, toys, and cartoons to prove it's popularity then Mario is in the same boat as Zelda. As it Manic said, Pokemon is just more marketable.


actually pokemon is still pretty huge right now with kids the cartoons, the toys, the cards. still very big with (elementary-middleschool)... (were just not part of that age group anymore so you don't see as many people your age playing it) but the games still sell universally well and is also typically a "closeted" game for older age groups, many just don't mention they play it, but i know in big well rounded or gamer loving cities (coming from LA. i've seen this) i see grown college students playing it at my school all the time, as well as people in airports, and just randomly out and about around town (movie theater for instance). Pokemon is a much more valuable franchise then zelda ever has been.. anything pokemon typically sells well and has an all age following. Zelda usually is just marketable to teenage and 20 something boys

More marketable and profitable doesn't make it Nintendo's 2nd biggest franchise. The games easily outsell Mario as well but just look at the care and time Nintendo puts into Mario and Zelda games. Every Mario and Zelda game Nintendo has made has been good.

All that really means is that Mario and Zelda need some tie-in cartoons and a few other media avenues. Pokemon's only bigger because it's a marketing juggernaut on several fronts, whereas Mario and Zelda are relegated solely to video games lately.

Mario and Zelda ARE bigger franchises going by video games. Nintendo could milk them as much as they do Pokemon if they wanted to. As Corpy said, just make a tv show and put toys on the shelf.

This is the lowdown, Nintendo pushed the game back, Sakurai realized he now had to stretch several more weeks worth of updates to fulfill his promise to the fans of a daily update, he does NOT want to reveal all of the characters before the release date, realizing the only way to keep doing the updates is to reveal things he does NOT want to reveal yet, he takes a "Break" for a week, which makes his job much easier.

He has given us an update EVERY FRIGGIN DAY since the summer, no game producer in history has given that kind of dedication to the fans, especially anyone within Nintendo, the veritable Fort Knox of game companies. Let him have his break to make things easier on him, and in a month and a few days we'll get to play the game and enjoy the fruits of their labor.

Pokemon is a great franchise. Heck, Diamond is my favorite addition to the series since Gold/Silver/Crystal.

If you can get your head out of your sphincter for five minutes and give the game a whirl, beneath the cartoony exterior, it is more involved and has more depth than many RPGs that have come and gone.
