There are several character that were very well portraited, and many like to say that they made the chacter perfectly and can´t imagine anyone else doing that part.
I can only see 3 actors fall into that category and just one is 100% perfect.

1 - Ron Pearlman as Hellboy (100% perfect)
2 - Wesley Snipes as Blade
3 - Mickey Rourke as Marv

the rest...

4 - Chris Evans as Human Torch
5 - Brandon Lee as Eric Draven

All the rest made amazing jobs, the ones that did, but i can easily see someone else in their shoes.

I'll probably be lynched for having my own opinion on this topic, but....
I think Bale is a great actor and he did an admirable job, but honestly, I don't think it's really all that hard to play that character. Just looked pissed off all of the time. You can be over the top and it still comes off OK. I see playing Clark Kent/Superman as a much more difficult task because you actually have to pull back and make it seem more legitimate. It has to be more subtle. Like Dan Dido said, Bats is a hard character to break. I mean, to a lot of people, Adam West will always be the definitive Batman! What does that tell you?

honestly, I don't think it's really all that hard to play that character.

You'd think, but somehow I still manage to hate Keaton's performance as awkward, introverted and unconfident Bruce Wayne. I know some really like it, but I just never bought him there. Maybe that's not his fault so much as that of the script, but oh well.
Also, never was much of a fan of Cain playing Alfred. I mean, the character he played was good, likable, but he wasn't Alfred to me. Too gruff, displayed too much emotion and too little of the prim and proper butler with stiff upper lip covering his up sense of humour and affection for Bruce, which I can't help but associate with the role.

5-Chris Evans playing Johnny Storm: I concede that Johnny certainly isn't the most demanding role in the world, but hey, if he plays it bang on it's bang on. And it was.
4-I know people don't seem to like the performance, but Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor. The way he'd go from cold and reserved, to funny, to vicious at the drop of a hat, was awesome.
3- Maguire as Spiderman: believable as awkward, stressed out and just plain funny as Parker, but also made the wisecracking bravado of the superhero work. One complaint, wisecracks weren't all that funny, but I blame the writing.
2-Bale as Batman. Maybe you're right that it's an easy role, but plenty others have tried and none get as close to a believable, intense Batman and a vapid, arrogant playboy Bruce Wayne all at once.
1- Christopher Reeve was Superman. Period. No two ways about it. Here's a grown man spouting the sort of silly, naive sounding thing that only a comic book hero could possibly say, but you can't help but believe that's who he is. And somehow, through sheer body language, he actually made me believe that a pair of eyeglasses could very well work as Superman's secret identity when he was taking them off in that scene in Lois Lane's apartment in the first film.

This of course is all assuming that the list only applies to live action films. If not #1 is and forever will be Kevin Conroy as Batman. Just with his voice, he made Batman a real person, and Bruce Wayne an appealing, but still somewhat obvious, act.
