I've been looking around for the hardcover version and I found an auction that looked like the right one.

However, he says this is a softcover. How many different versions have they made and what do the covers look like?

There was the original hardcover, a softcover, and a new softcover which will be out later this summer. To the best of my knowledge, only three prints so far.
After looking at the auction, it appears to show the hardcover edition - at least mine looks like this one. The softcover shows Batman head-on on the right side.

If you're talking about Grant Morrison's new arc, Batman and Son, it's about putting what Son of the Demon produced back into continuity. Morrison felt that it left alot of questions unanswered, so his his arc will tie into the graphic novel. Talia will appear again as well as Ibn Al Xu'ffash, the child of both her and Batman, who of course came about during their love affair with one another. The recent cover for August consists of Batman facing off against what appears to be, ninja-Man-Bats.

I don't think anything will be added. It appears it'll have an all new cover by Kubert (who's doing the art on the new Morrison arc), and it'll be printed in standard comic size for the first time (it has been an over-sized one until now).

I think the difference between the hardcover and softcover is that the hardcover had an introduction by Mark Hamill.
