The Bryce Dallas Howard/Gwen Stacy Thread

Columbia is keeping a tight lid on the third movie's story line, though it is known that Gwen is the third part of a love triangle and that the character does survive.


From the Entertainment Weekly article (April 28 / May 5, 2006):

In January, she scored a part in Spider-Man 3, pretty much the holiest of holies among currently filming comic-book adaptations.

"I think, with this movie," Howard says sunnily, "a lot of things have been last-minute because they worked so, so much on the story."



In next summer's Spider-Man 3, she'll be unavoidable as Gwen Stacy, a buxom new love interest for Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire). "They gave me some heavy-duty push-up bras so I have a nice rack as well," boasts Howard. Cast only days before she had to start shooting - though she says she had no indication that she was a replacement or an also ran - Howard had no time to test wigs. Since Gwen has always been blonde in the comics, a dye job was deemed essential.

well, my answer depends...

if she is going to be the new love interest for peter, then there is no limit to my anger and outrage.

but if she is just to be in love with peter and peter feels nothing back (which he shouldn't since he's with the girl of his dreams finally), then she's ok to be in the film.

Just do it like they did in the comics, switching Doc Ock for Sandman. Obviously the exact scenario would be different, but you get the drift.

well, spidey is still a wanted man, and it could happen that gwen never really had an opinion on spidey.

but during their battle, spidey and sandman, it could be the police are there trying to capture both spidey and sandman, and a number of things can happen:

sandman may try to get away and spidey try's to stop him but throwing something at him and it goes right through him and lands on capt. stacy, or maybe hits the side of a building and the rubble then falls on capt. stacy.

or maybe sandman throws spidey into a building and the rubble falls and kills capt. stacy.

i don't know, just throwing out idea's here, but the main point is that if both spidey and sandman are in battle together and are both wanted, and capt. stacy's death is a result of their battle, Gwen will hate both of them, and blame both of them.

If they are going to introduce the character now, they are most certainly not going to kill her. You would need to establish her for one film to make her death significant in the film-verse. This, coupled with the Hollywood Reporter's story, makes it clear that Gwen will survive.

Not necessarilly. There are signifigant deaths in movies all the time that never even get a sequel. Wasn't Uncle Ben's death signifigant in the first movie? My best friend's mother who has never read a single comic book in her life, cried when she saw that.

There are two ways to make a death signifigant. You can make the audience attached to the person who dies, or you can make them attatched to somebody who will mourn them. Uncle Ben's death was sad because of our ability to relate to Peter. We felt Peter's pain, not becuase we felt bad for Uncle Ben, but because we felt bad for Peter. The audience as actually mourning for Peter more than they were mourning for Uncle Ben. It was emotion delivered brillaintly. Us comic fans knew it was coming, but it still had emotional impact. Anybody that complains about the directional style of the last two movies only needs to go back and watch that scene.

i doubt it though. one of them is most definitely going to die. i feel it 99.9% - with dunst for now not coming back for another spidey film, m.j is the most likely candidate to die.

but the other 1% is that they'll just make her leave for l.a or something. which i'm not to sure of, but if dunst decides to come back in the future, her part is there waiting for her.

but my money is on my first thought in this post.

I believe that MJ will not die. I think they are going to have them break up, and keep a possibility on the table of having pete hook up with gwen for a couple movies, and with part 4 or part 5 they will probably ask dunst will you come back? If she agrees to come back for part 5 then they will probably kill Gwen in part 4. If she agrees to come back for part 6 then Gwen will probably die in part 5. If Dunst never agrees to come back, they will probably never kill Gwen.

I still think its ironic that she's in the movie, after the "...Still in the Village" line in SM2

I think what would be best is to have her come in, as a classmate or he meets her though a Bugle assignment involving Capt. Stacy. MJ goes Hollywood, literally, and Peter's left alllll alone, with his new buddy Gwen (and don't forget Betty) in that big city old city.

They need to give us time to love Gwen. Its been two movies and I'm still finding it hard to share Peter's love for MJ. In the comics, it was easier to understand.

Not really. the harness would most likely wrap around your ribs, back, stomach, and connect from behind through the legs.

It is a harness. You can see the cable hook ups poking through it, and in her other pics from this movie, even the same day, you can tell she is way skinnier than she is in that pic. (SEE NEXT POST) With CGI yes they will restore her figure to what it would be without the harness, the same way they will remove the cables.

well, my answer depends...

if she is going to be the new love interest for peter, then there is no limit to my anger and outrage.

but if she is just to be in love with peter and peter feels nothing back (which he shouldn't since he's with the girl of his dreams finally), then she's ok to be in the film.
I think it makes the story much more interesting if they kill MJ and he ends up with the girl Stan Lee wanted him to be with in the first place. Plus there is a certain amount of charm to it that Peter(the geek) ends up with a super modelish looking girl as apposed to the "girl next door".

See but that's my point. The characters are only MJ and Gwen in name only. From the comic we meet Gwen first and come to want her and Peter together. She's the girl next door Peter always wanted. MJ comes along and is the fun party girl that seems way out of Peter's league but that later comforts Peter after Gwens death. In the film we see MJ as Gwen. The girl next door that Peter always loved. The average movie going Joe Citizen likes MJ and wants them to be together. As did comic fans of Gwen and Peter. Killing MJ would be more intune with the spirit of the comics. Plus why would they introduce a character just to kill her off in the same movie. I don't see that happening.
