Its probably never gonna happen but i feel as if it would make a great movie.
A sorta,1930s Private Detective,Film Noir, style superhero flick.
Not too Sin City...more Casablanca.
Who could play him?
I think Sean Penn could pull it off, maybe Liev Schreiber,James woods?

Question cast:

The Question: Nathan Fillion (of course, if Firefly comes back in any real capacity, then I'd change my choice. Too big of a browncoat to say otherwise)

Ixxy O'Toole: Alec Baldwin

Reverend Jeremiah Hatch: Kelsey Grammar

Professor Aristotle "Tot" Rodor: Donald Sutherland

Lady Shiva: Kelly Hu

Richard Dragon: David Carradine

If they do I hope Rufus Sewell(Dark City, The Legend of Zorro) as the Question.

The Question

He looks nothing like Vic Sage.

Well if it was a few years ago I would have casted jeffory cobbs for the question sense he is the voice for him on JLU but the firefly guy doesn't seem like bad casting either. Also I wouldn't want a question movie a show would work much better.

The Question
05-21-2006, 04:12 PM
The Question does work better in a more serialized format. Crime drama stuff is hard to start, resolve, and finish up in a single episode or movie. And there's also the character developement and character intruduction, making a TV show work better for The Question.

After read an issue of the question they have great storys that would work for episodes such as the one I bought yesterday issue 15 the one about the rasits(crap curse you spelling) cop. That would be a great episode I really liked it how vic hated being saved by him.

The Question
05-21-2006, 05:03 PM
There was another great one where Vic was being chased by a bunch of mob hitmen during a huge tornato.

Ooohhh. Give me some info, if you would.Little off topic but hey question what do you think of 52 so far. Im really scared that the question will die and the reason he is hanging out with montoyal is to train her to take his place.:(

The Question
05-21-2006, 10:43 PM
Well, I don't see why he'd see his death coming. But Johns has mentioned a possible Question series after 52, so there's hope.

The Question

So do I. If they kill of Vic and replace him with Montoya, then that kind of defeats the purpose. The point of The Question is that it's a man asking questions about the world and himself. Characterdevelopement is a huge part. If they replace him with Montoya, it's just Gotham Central with a mask.

A series sounds a good idea, the could do a feature length one to begin with but then go onto 20-40 min episodes, kinda like how Lost runs

Ooohhh. Give me some info, if you would.

It's more of an outline at this point. I do have a list of little character moments for Vic/Q that I want to see. The plot I have in mind is mostly inspired by the early storys in Blue Beetle. But I only have some breif summarys and some panels to go on.

I'm trying to avoid doing the origin and take the Burton/Batman approach. A movie about the Question doing what he does.

One thing I want to do is have fog and smoke as a visual motif, seeing how Vic uses that gas to transform himself.

The Question
05-22-2006, 09:16 PM
Cool. Are you using supporting characters from the comics, or making your own?

cabel
05-22-2006, 09:53 PM
Tot obviously. I also want Sam and Syd Starr in it. I also want Nora Lace, but I don't know much about the dynamic of their relationship other than Nora can take a punch. Currently I have Lou Dicer as a minor villian, I'm thinking about using Nat Kat (lame name, I might change it). I thought about bringing in Huntress, but not likely.

The Question
05-23-2006, 08:00 AM
Also, try for some of the characters introduced in O'Neil's series. Like, Myra Fermin for a love interest. Also, for the villain, I'd suggest Reveren Jeremiah Hatch. Again, from the O'Neil run. Very cool bad guy. A catholic preist who, shortly after becoming a preist, joined the military in a time of war. He was caught in a particularly bloody battle, and all the death and destruction caused him to loose his faith in God. He let his cross drop to the ground as he brutally slaughtered the enemy. He returned to the states, and used his position as a preist to atain power. Eventually, he became Arch Bishop of Hub City and a powerful crime boss and arms dealer. He';s in cahoots with the Hub City mayor, who's incredibly inept and drunk half of the time. Hatch is also bat**** insane, which is fun to write. And example:

When he first encountered Q, he had Lady Shiva (who was working for him at the time) beat the crap out of him, and had his other henchmen shoot him in the head (it was very low caliber, so he survived) and dump in him in the lake. When Shiva sked if he thought that was too brutal, he responded:

"You're right. I am a fair man, and I shall give him a chance. SHould he rise from the waters, unharmed, singing 'Danny Boy', I will let him live."

Question, can you recomend any specific issues of The Question comics that are worth checking out? or any tpbs involving the character that are worth checking out? Thanks.

The Question
05-27-2006, 10:42 PM
No TPBs. Unfortunately. Issues 16-18 of his DC series involve a Green Arrow team up. And the first four issues of his DC series serves as a good introduction to the character.

I think the best way might be a movie introduction then a serialized show. The bulk of his stories, and the genersl format work better as a TV show, but the character itself would make could hold a moive on its own.

You should read 52. He's supposed to be one of the major players in it, and has already been in it quite a bit. It's a good read, too.

Question, can you recomend any specific issues of The Question comics that are worth checking out? or any tpbs involving the character that are worth checking out? Thanks.Frank Miller's Dark Knight Strikes Again has the best portrayal of the Question since Ditko's Charlton run. Avoid any mainstream DCU title, they've butchered the character beyond recognition.

Does anyone have a good pic of Nathan Fillion i could use for another fan poster?

And another thing i just thought of, should Blue Bettle or any of the other Charlton Comic heroes appear in the film, if theres gonna be one?

The Question is not dying in 52 so far as I know, mainly because Greg Rucka said he'd write a series about him as long as they'd let him.

You should read the new DC Universe novel 'Helltown' by Denny O'neal. It's all about the origin of the Question and is VERY good!

From BN.com:

Newly arrived in crime-plagued Hub City, Vic Sage doesn't plan to be a hero. He wants only to uncover his own mysterious past. Working as a reporter for a local radio station, Vic gets too close to a deadly story and is nearly murdered-when he's rescued by mercurial assassin Lady Shiva, trained by martial arts master Richard Dragon, and given a new identity by Batman. Now reborn as The Question, Vic Sage vows to destroy a vast, corrupt conspiracy involving Hub City's most powerful men. But as he seeks the elusive truth, Vic will find that the answers may prove fatal...

There are 2 other books in the DC U series so far: 'Inheritance' which is a story about Batman, Aquaman, and Green Arrow and their relationship with their young wards and the boys' relationship with each other. The other is called 'Last Sons' and is about Supes, Martian Manhunter, and Lobo, all 'last sons' of dead planets. All the stuff with Lobo, which is the majority of the book, is great and just hilarious! Both of these books are excellent as is Helltown. I've always been a Marvel guy but I'm really into reading this DC prose. There's a Justice League series that's good too. So far, 5 books - one each of Supes, WW, Bats, Flash, and GL. All very good!

I've stopped the actual writing, but it still has a very strong presence in my head (along with the other half dozen film dreams). My lack of comics from the Charlaton and Neil eras have limited me to the very basic outline I have. I want to put together elements from all the major interpretations, including Q's monologue from 'Dark Knight Strikes Again.'

As a director, I know what 'look' I want. Film noir, desaturated colors, lots of shadows. Emulating the look of films from 'Out of the Past,' 'Touch of Evil,' and more recent ones like 'Road to Perdition.'

A very good book. It's a revamp of the story originally presented in the first few issues of O' Neil's Question series. Bruce Wayne also plays a larger role in how Vic becomes The Question. Overall, it was a pretty good read. I could hardly put it down. I think it's the best of the three DC novels.

He comes to check on Vic while he's being trained by Richard Dragon. He sees that Vic may travel down the same path he did, and becomes Sage's "mysterious benefactor" - setting him up with acting classes for creating a dual identity. Later when Sage is in trouble, Bruce contacts Shiva and eventually they all meet up. At the end, Bruce is in costume. He's mostly Bruce Wayne whenever he encounters Vic, I'm surprised Vic never made the connection that he's his benefactor.
