View Full Version : Movie Reporter on the TF Script

The Movie Reporter also got their hands on the same TF Script as Latino Review. The script is months old and FOUR revisions ago. Supposedly the story is still roughly the same.
I know I put this in the Script Review Thread, but the more I thought about it...this deserves it's own thread.

Megatron is NOT a Tank, Gun, or Cannon...he is a Cybertronian Jet. This means we're probably getting something similiar to Cybertron or Energon Megatron....very little G1 for the big, bad Decepticon Leader. Megs also doesn't appear until the 3rd Act of the film, outside a cool flashback from Prime.

I do mind it.
The main reason why is because, if he gets no real development outside a flashback and his name muttered here and there, then he shows up in the 3rd Act as a "final boss" type villain, then we're getting nothing more than a BIG BAD GUY who shows up to only get defeated. It's like playing a video game where the main villain is hinted at, talked about, but only shows up once and at the very end and he's beaten and that's it, game over. This huge villain turns out to be nothing more than cannon fodder for the story. The final boss that does nothing but loose.

Bingo:up:
But I kind of think this has changed. Since we've basically been told Megs is a tank now. So hopefully this appearance in the third act **** has changed.

Dude, this is Michael Bay. All his movies are like video games. This is the same guy that brought you the most fluffy, cliche ridden, superficial takes on one of our nation's most tragic turning points (Pearl Harbor).
All I expect from this movie is one bad cliche after another. And, who are the actual screenplay writers? Catwoman? The Core? If this movie is even half as good as The Core (which IMHO wasn't "great" but at least better than the schlock that Armageddon was) I'll be surprised.
No, I'm not a Michael Bay hater.... I love Bad Boys. But, the dude does have a knack for making unbelievably mindless movies.

But this makes the G1 Fanboy in me shrivel up, cry, and then die.
YES I ADMIT I'M A G1 FANBOY!! And a HUGE Fan of Megatron!
I don't want G1 cartoon or comic redux. I can handle different Alt Modes. I can handle new Characters (even if i prefer old ones), but DAMMIT TO HELL I CAN NOT HANDLE A MEGATRON LIKE THIS!
EDIT:
That felt good to let out.
I seriously would love 'Vortex' being Soundwave and 'Soundwave' being Rumble/Frenzy. I'm cool with new Non-G1 Alt. Modes....I can handle humans getting most of the screentime as long as Prime and Megatron feel like Prime and Megatron. I can handle TF's getting killed by humans, if they are good fight scenes and cool deaths. Just some things IRK ME SO!

Dude, let it out. I think a lot of fans have resigned themselves to seeing ANY movie billing itself as "Transformers' on the big screen. But, it's never too late to have your voice heard....
As this movie starts to get more press attention a lot more casual-fans are gonna start speaking up... "Hey what happened to that huge guy with the awesome robotic voice that turned into a walkman!.... he was THE BEST!... I still think of him when I look at my iPod!"
A dude in one of the other forums stated it perfectly: "I just kinda think a Transformers movie would benefit from having Transformers in it."

If you are any kind of a Transformer fan, you will know that the line i quoted above is utter blasphemy!
.....and if you stand by that statement, then you should be publicly flogged til there is about an inch of your life left, and then crucified for the heathenistical statement that you made!
It's people like you that has Fox studios greenlighting a second 'Alien vs Predator' movie. They raped both these characters in the first one, with the whole 'Human screentime' thing and now they're planning on 'bending them over again for another round of sodomy' in the near future with a sequel.
We as fans are what put money into these studio execs pockets. If we accept 'anything', they'll keep giving us 'anything'. If we don't spend our hard earned cash on these movies, then they'll start to loose money....and that's all they listen to...MONEY LOSS!
Don't accept anything less....the name of the movie is 'The Transformers'. It's not a movie co-starring the Transformers.......

Now the Alt. Modes and Dying thing...yeah I can handle that. Cause sometimes things have to change, characters have to die. But NO I DON'T WANT TO SEE TRANSFORMERS WITH LOTS OF HUMAN SCREENTIME!!! NO NO NO!!!!
HOWEVER...I stand by the rest of what I said. And I'M A HUGE TRANSFORMERS fan, Have been since I was 5 years old. They are a huge passion and source of Inspiration for me as an artist.

Well maybe megs is doing other things at the time everything is going on. I don't think he likes getting his hands dirty for grunt work so when OP shows up and kicks all the deceptacons asses Megs steps in to fight his rival. sort of like the way the new comic is doing it show everything else first to the new viewers development and stuff. Then bring in Megs for the final fight if you bring Megs in to soon when the final fight will be lame like with spiderman, and spiderman2 failed that way for not doing the final fights very well IMO.

Well, I like the way Spidey 2 was done. A lot. The overblown "final fight" thing is soooooooo cliche. What would you have preferred? Spidey kick Doc Ock so silly, he finally saw the error of his ways? No, Spidey 2 took a more original and thoughtful route.
I commend Raimi and the writers for having the imagination to come up with an original story.

I can understand that...but from the script review it semes like we'll NOT even see Megatron at all until suddenly he appears. That just seems so lame to me. I cna handle it if they put him in like 2-3 short scenes with him commanding the 'Cons or planning things out or (hopefully) fighting the weaker Autobots before his big intro. I just think it's such a waste to not see/hear him until he suddenly appears in the final moments of the film.

Well they HAVE to have changed...the script is 4 months old. But that doesn't mean that a lot of it will not hold true, or that many of the action sequences have been altered a lot.
More than likely, all they changed was dropped out a sub-plot, add a new sub-plot, change dialogue, tweek dialogue, and/or adjust the ending. But the core of that script is probably still there.

Calm down. Thye haven`t suggested anything ridiculously outlandish or insulting to the original mythos. There are a couple of minor niggles which we have with a 4 month old script. I mean compare the vast amount of similarities and connections of the new movie and the original series to the drastic changes the x-men idea, setup and characters experienced when they changed it into a movie. Be thankful they are being more faithful to the source material than fox and Bryan Singer. If they had made it you would get hugh jackman as optimus. Leather uniforms for the transformers and the addition of them being robots made by nasa to make it more "realistic".

I highly disagree with this post.
I think X-Men was extremely reverential. In fact, how Singer managed to turn a comic into a GREAT "Sci - Fi" movie was pure genius. AND he managed to hit every single important beat of the comic. Had Bay made X-Men he would have left out Cerebro like he's leaving out Teletran 1. Wolverines mutant power would be his claws (because the whole healing thing and where the heck did the claws come from thing is hard to explain) just like Bay is leaving out mass-changing (doh! One of the if not THE most popular Transformer.... SOUNDWAVE.... butchered). I could go on.
Should I comment about the environment and energy issues of the original Transformers. No, this movie doesn't seem to be about that. Go watch Al Gore's movie instead. This movie is about the quest for a holy grail artifact that crashed on Earth known as The Energon Cube (WTF?).

Yeah. Energon Cubes were nothing more than batteries created by Soundwave to store Earth's natural resources. There is no such thing as The Energon Cube... the concept is downright stupid. Others suggested calling this holy grail "The Creation Matrix"... I don't disagree with that.... but, it's still STUPID (in a "realistic movie" such as this). This movie should be all about protecting Earth's environment and natural resources from rape and destruction from the Decepticons.

Bay has left out mass changing but the recent rumors are that the dwarf decepticon will not be soundwave and that soundwave might be left till later. soundwave won`t be able to size change most likely but he`ll prob end up being a helicopter or something.
I find it hilarious though how people whine about a few changes but then i compare this film to x-men and suddenly its all different. Apparrantly x-men being different from the comic makes sense and makes it great. But transformers the movie differeing from the series it a crime against life itself. At least try and make a cohesive arguement.

Me too (maybe)... but definately no repeat viewing for me. I usually go to these "long awaited" movies three times. Once with friends... once with the girlfriend (whose a geek and loves this stuff).... and once with my daughter and the girlfriend.
I suspect I'm not the only one. If Bay trashes this movie he can expect complete LACKLUSTER performance akin to The Hulk.
But, then as long as they make some money, I don't think Don Murphey or Bay really care. They're not aiming for the super-duper X-Men/Spider-Man (and Incredibles and King Kong) blockbuster here.
They've pretty much said as much. Hopefully Steven Spielberg will step in at some point and smack them around (he's a pretty hands-on Exec Producer).

There's a reason in the script why Megatron is a alien aircraft. He's found in an iceberg at the beginning and spend most of the film in a laboratory being studied. So of course, he couldn't scan a vehicle here to take it's form.
And Spielberg actually pushed for removing most action and concentrating on Sam and his car. So don't trust him.

I know about the "Boy and his car part." But, "Removing most action?" Where did that leap come from? You sure about that? Is that a leap based on a Don Murphy rumor? I wouldn't believe a word that guy says.
I don't doubt Spielberg's original theme for this movie was a "Boy and his car".... just like Jurassic Park was about "Kids and Dinosaurs".... and he pulled off quite a terror filled action movie there. How that guy balances terror and general family friendliness in the same movie is beyond me (Poltergeist also comes to mind). The guy is a genius.

Speilberg: *Slap bay hard in the face* do you want people to see you as the guy who ruined Transformers?
Bay:*whimpers" No sir
Speilberg: get it right then *****!
Well, he's been known (rumored?) to do just that. Poltergeist was being directed by the guy who did Texas Chainsaw Massacre (don't get me wrong I'm a fan)...while Spielberg exec produced. But, if you watch that movie, it has Spielberg's fingerprints ALL OVER IT. It oozes Spielberg... and it's a terrific movie for it (one of my fave movies- period- of all time).
Though I'm sure he didn't co-opt the following to the same extent as Poltergeist (is rumored)... his "touch" is quite evident in stuff like Batteries Not Included, Joe vs Volcano (another great movie) and even more recently Men in Black... all exec produced by him but not directed.
There's no denying that even as a producer, he excercises quite a bit of influence. It's just obvious.

Yes so very true, i've noticed that whenever i see movies he's only produced. they still seem to have that spielberg feel to it.
Im still waiting for this movie before i get too upset, cause so far its not sounding good but im hoping all will be good come july 4th 2007.

I'm worried about it.
It might read as an good action/sci-fi movie but all this nonsense about the Decepticons(who overall I prefer to the Autobots as characters) not speaking very much and being drones is pretty crappy. Starscream having 2 lines?! That's absurd.
And there better not be a lot of unneccesary deaths! Transformers fix themselves all the time. I expect one or two to bite it but they better not kill Megatron or Optimus!

I think Spielberg will help the movie. The guys goes from funny family fun to serious and sometimes too-serious subject matter like a virtuoso. He's brilliant. And I think he'll ensure this movie has the "right feel", and right thrust.
Heck, I went in thinking MIB (produced, not directed by him) would be just a stupid comedy and it turned out to be one of the best sci-fi movies I've ever seen. Then he makes AI... I know a lot people didn't like it.... but I happen to think it's one of the best most thought-provoking Sci-Fi movies ever.
I have way more faith in him than I do Bay (who I think is one of the worst things to happen to Hollywood).
