"To feel the power of the Gods." felt just a tad too high-handed for Billy Batson to me. But that was just my feeling. This is just a preview anyway.

You have to remember, Billy isn't a little kid anymore; I think with OYL, he's pretty much old enough to vote at this point.
Besides, it is true, he does have the power of the Gods.

Everybody at DC needs to start getting that through their heads. Billy, Robin, and all the other "kids" of the DC universe are old enough that they can draw them like adults now. I hate seeing Robin drawn like a little kid everywhere still, and it looks like Porter is doing the same for Billy.

I would have to agree, with what little scant amount of dialogue we've seen, that it doesn't feel very Billyish. I mean come on, "I wanted these guys to feel it"? Way to make him sound like a rapper, Judd.
Not that it's going to stop me from buying the hell out of this.

Wasn't he 17 before OYL? Either way, he still looks like 15 at the oldest to me. I guess he could just be a very underdeveloped 17 or 18, though.

I think he was 16 in volume 7 of JSA, when Stargirl found out who he was. They were trapped in a dark place where the Wizard's magic had no power...and I think they revealed his age at that point...I could be wrong though. I'll check again at home when I get back from work in a couple of hours.

EXCLUSIVE: THE EMERGENCE OF FREDDY FREEMAN
Marvel Jr. takes over Captain Marvel's mantle in Judd Winick and Howard Porter's 'Trials of Shazam!'
By Brian Warmoth
Posted June 7, 2006 10:30 AM
Judd Winick is handing out three promotions in August’s Trials of Shazam! , and all of them are going to redefine the DC Universe for the foreseeable future.
“Captain Marvel Jr. is no longer going to be called Captain Marvel Jr.,” said Winick. “This will be 12 issues about Freddy proving himself to be worthy of these powers and proving himself as in by the trials of Hercules.”
Billy Batson’s upgrade will be another key part of the story, as he takes on the role of the former wizard Shazam.
“The next step is concentrating again on Marvel,” stated Winick, who says that Billy Batson’s character will remain the same, only “kicked upstairs to management.”
Yet most surprising of all may be Winick’s wider ambitions in the book—to re-examine Shazam’s nature as a magical being in the DCU and delve into the roles of gods represented in his name.
“There are gods of magic—Solomon, Hercules, Mercury,” Winick explained, “and at the same time there are also the gods of Olympus which exist in the same universe for Wonder Woman. We’re going to make a line in the sand that says, ‘These are two different sets of characters.’ There is a Zeus, and there is a Mercury that exist in Wonder Woman.”
The formula comes down to Winick’s desire to modernize magic in addition to Captain Marvel, taking an approach he likens to “one part Neil Gaiman and one part Alan Moore” and “closer to James Robinson’s take on Starman.”
“I’m kind of a Goth kid, and I’d like to tap into that.”

Freddie's a Goddamned gimp and he should go DIE! Neither he nor Mary should have the powers instead of Billy. This is effing ludicrous!
But, with Wizard's preview of the new JLA, the first they accept for membership is Captain Marvel. I wonder how all this will tie in.....

Maybe Billy's powers will those of magic and Freddie's those of Olympus?
Why are you worried?

Yeah, I kind of like DC's magic side. A lot. Especially how they've treated the gods in Wonder Woman.

You guys think the Olympian Pantheon will rescind the powers they've granted to the Marvels and bestow them solely upon Wonder Woman?

I took it to mean that there will be two sets of gods, one Olympian, one Magic, but each with it's own Solomon, Hercules, Zeus, etc.

Ah, so each will have a full pantheon, just different. Kinda like Black Adam's Egyptian pantheon, correct?

I took it to mean that there will be two sets of gods, one Olympian, one Magic, but each with it's own Solomon, Hercules, Zeus, etc.
Well, the Olympian set wouldn't have a Solomon since he was a Christian king, but either way that sounds lame. I hope they don't go that route.
Ah, so each will have a full pantheon, just different. Kinda like Black Adam's Egyptian pantheon, correct?
Black Adam's got one "god" who's kind of out of place among his pantheon as well. Aton was the god whom one Egyptian king tried to replace the established pantheon with. He was supposed to be a singular deity who governed everything, like the Judeo-Christian God. It didn't take, and after that one king died they went back to the old pantheon.
