View Full Version : More Kryptonians are coming, but not Zod...
When writing the film and perhaps laying ground work for possible sequels is there any mention of other characters from Superman lore hidden in the film for the eagle-eyed or eared viewer to look out for?
When we first started brainstorming, I really wanted to have another Kryptonian for Superman to go toe-to-toe with, but Bryan wisely said that it might be too much for this outing. It was going to be hard enough to reintroduce audiences to the current roster of characters, including the main villain, Lex Luthor, so throwing in yet another bad guy would've been overkill. With that in mind, I think there's a natural progression the film series would have to take. After all, you can't have Superman going up against just Lex for three films, or saving people from natural disasters or crashing airplanes over and over again. One of Superman's biggest issues is the fact that he's supposedly the last of his race - but what if he wasn't? I'm not talking about three Kryptonians busting out of the Phantom Zone looking to start a fight, but if Kryptonians were such an advanced civilization, then space travel would've been easy for them, so I don't see why there couldn't be other survivors out there.

Theres hope for Brainiac and Kara Zor-El in the sequels. Thank goodness.

Ive always thought it would be possible to pull off a storyline involving a band of Kryptonian survivors living on space ships, ala Titan A.E.
And they won't be truly "evil" people, but looking for a new home. And then they stumble across Earth. And then the sh^t hits the fan with Supes.

That was a bad idea when Lois & Clark did it first.

Movie 2: Brainiac
Movie 3: Darkseid
I want CLASSIC Superman villains, not made up for the movie aliens reminescent of Nuclear man and or "bad Superman"

I'm pretty sure Brainiac is a lock for the sequel.
As far as the other Kryptonian survivors, I wonder if they could successfully pull off the Argo City storyline from the precrisis but tweak it so it makes more sense. It could make Supermans journey to Krypton and back (to find them) have more meaning.

Superman has one of the best rogues galleries out there. There's plenty of already existing villains to draw from without needing to create new ones.

Superman has good villians yes, but not many that can stand on there own without Luthor in the backdrop!
Brainiac and a very young Kara (Jason's age) for the sequel.
Shell eventually grow into Supergirl about 2 movies later

Jax-Ur, Mala, or Ty-Zor? Possible Kryptonian villains.
I could see Brainiac making contact with Lex Luthor in the sequel, trying to strike some sort of deal. Brainiac could get a secondary villain in there to. Maybe Metallo or Bizzaro, someone for Superman to throw a punch or two at. Maybe Brainiac could dose Superman with some red kryptonite and have results in the vein of Superman 3 or Smallville.
I think they'll have Brainiac for the sequel. Personally my favorite Kryptonian villain is Preus, and I think he could work on film. But I'd really love to see Supes face off with Mongul on screen

KNEEL BEFORE ZOD!!! Seriously, Zod is awesome and a new match up with Superman could easily be the biggest thing on the big screen ever! With the state of todays tech, The battle of two nigh-omnipotent kryptonians would totally eclipse every film thus far! " FINALLY I SHALL CRUSH THE SON OF JOR-EL"!

I think we are going to see Braniac evolve from the Kryptonian chunk that will be orbiting around earth after Returns.

Brainiac should definitely be in the sequel, considering people have been trying to use him for at least three films now. I also think the trilogy should build to a showdown with a really big villain in part 3, such as Darkseid.
Zod doesn't interest me that much, since he's the one supervillain they've already used effectively. As for Bizarro, Parasite, or Metallo, they all feel more like secondary villains that would have to work with Luthor. I don't really see any of them carrying their own film.

Yeah, Brainiac deserves to be in a film.
Darkseid is alot like Ra's al Ghul......a character that can be very behind the scenes and be present for an entire series almost.

Superman Returns is set five years after Superman 2 (making the wise choice of ignoring 3 and 4), so why introduce more Kryptonians when there is so much from Superman's comic history that we HAVEN'T seen.

Bringing in Brainiac for the sequel makes sense on so many levels. You could introduce more Kryptonian technology as well as the city of Kandor. I always thought the existence of Kandor, housed in Supe's Fortress provided a much needed "fleshing out" to Krypton's history. You could have several Kandorians escape from the bottle, enlarge to life-size and take on The Man Of Steel. Likewise, Supes could visit said city where, under the influence of an artificial red sun, he would be powerless. There is such a rich history to the Superman saga that continues to lay fallow.

uhm...The Phantom Zone wasn't made up for the movie you know, it's been around since the silver age...same with Zod...the only thing they made up for that movie was his sidekicks, who were actually pretty much just like the ones he had in the comics but with different names...

Also I think it would be cool to see LoBo.Have him come to earth looking for a bounty, and not caring who or what gets in the way.It prolly wouldnt work though.

I'd rather they either give Lobo his own movie, or prefferably leave him in the 90's along with Spawn where he belongs :o

Lobo and Darkseid are both characters that should not be villains in a Superman sequel. They should have their own films focusing on them (The New Gods would be incredibly epic in scope, and Lobo would be hilarious as a bloody, overthetop, action thriller). They don't need Superman to tell a story and Superman doesn't need either of them as villains when he already has plenty of others to draw stories from.Superman has one of the best rogues galleries out there. There's plenty of already existing villains to draw from without needing to create new ones.Agreed.
Personally, I'd like to see a sequel that is more in spirit with the comics instead of trying to mimick the previous movies' spirit. Have Lex finally establish LexCorp and create the villains that we know. Then he can conduct an experiment that creates the Parasite or Metallo.
I'd prefer to leave Bizarro out. He basically equates to just another kryptonian fighting Superman, and I've already seen enough of those guys.
Lobo would be hilarious as a bloody, overthetop, action thriller.
Bingo. I think he should be the villain for the third and final movie of Supes trilogy. the spin off to his own movie
As for tthe New Gods, that would be such ageekgasm overload and done right would be such an incredible epic

Kryptonian villians are bad ass bcuz there the only ones that rip the costume and bruise him, naturally. I hope i its ZOD + Braniac. Makes perfect sense. I dont think braniac can hold on his own without zod, it needs zod because he wasnt treated as i wanted in superman 2. zod is badass.

im glad im not alone with this ZOD thing, i say both braniac and zod.
I dont want to see ANY kryptonian villains. Ty-Zor was a horrible idea from Abrams horrible script IMO. We've already seen Zod and Co, so No more, Superman is an alien so they could have him fight an alien from a different planet why does it have to be another Kryptonian? Bring on Brainiac, Lobo, Mongul, or hell even Massacre

What I am curious about is this: Since the kid is pretty much Superman's, and he'll likely at some point be a mentor, does this nullify any chance of Kara, ie. Supergirl? If so, I'm pretty disappointed.
One thing I was always hoping for in a Superman film, is that they would show him coming across her ala the way STAS did it.
I would rather see Supergirl down the line in the franchise then Superman's son, but I don't see how that could happen now. I don't see them having Superman going back out to space and finding her.

Preus should be in the next movie, allied with Brainiac.
Preus is the only other kryptonian that should be acknowledged, other than Zod.
