View Full Version : Just recently got back into comics, what are some good DC comics?

I'm mostly a Marvel fan, but I wanted to get into DC comics too. Anyways, I got the 4 issues of 52, and I was wondering if there are any other DC series that are early in its life cycle and easy to get into? I saw the JLA preview in the new Wizard. That looks good, so I'm thinking about starting on that in August. But are there anything else that's a good read?

The Robin OYl arc has been great, so has the Batman and Superman stories.

I like team oriented comics over individuals. I like to read comics like F4 and X-Men over Spider Man and stuff. I think JLA sounds great, since it doesn't start till July.

you might be interested in Outsiders, Teen Titans, Justice League America and Justice Society America.
maybe even Shadowpact if you're interested in the magical side of the DCU?
Secret Six a new six part mini series just started, the first issue was pretty good.

I'm not saying that it is bad because it is not. I'm just saying that it lacks complete organization. A former U.S government military spy agency taken over by the U.N led by Alan Fury :o

Well GAH is right about Nightwing. That book is crap. Easily DC's worst book right now right next to All-Star Batman and Robin.

Well, every once in a while he's right. There was that whole Cap'n Boomerang in outsiders thing. I'd hold off on Nightwing until the new team is announced.

Well, any DC title would be relatively easy to jump onto right now because of Infinite Crisis and the subsequent One Year Later jump of most of the titles. Superman is enjoying "Up Up and Away" which is a great place to jump on, and Batman likewise started "fresh" with "Face the Face"...both I strongly reccomend and are easily accessible if you have any questions simply PM me or ask the board and you'll have whatever answers you need. Green lantern would also be a good title to jump onto since it's fairly new, and JLA will be restarting soon with #0 as will Flash and Wonder Woman...as for quality I can't comment yet because they aren't out. In July Morrison starts his Batman run as does Dini on Detective both of which will be amazing based on the talent involved. There is also Allstar Superman which is continuity free and has been one of the best Superman stories ever told. Also Aquaman and Green arrow OYL have been great...Blue Beetle was pretty solid too especially if you're a USM fan.
...then there is the vertigo and Wildstorm lines, but I'm not sure exactly what you're looking for but if you're interested there are some amazing titles to discuss there as well...

Good thing a new Nigtwing team will be announced shortly...and the poor quality doesn't surprise me in light of DC saying "Dick was supposed to die in IC all the plot threads were leading to that so he had to be very different OYL"...

I'd also recommend Green Lantern Corps since you dig teams. Though it's more like an intergalactic police force. Like NYPD Blue in space. Also, Supergirl and the Legion of Superheros. Love that book.

if Dick died i think i would of stopped readin comics, he is my fav character behind Batman, it's ashame that they've ruin his current arc.
Battle for Bludhaven, features Teen Titans, and some memebers from the forthcoming Freedom Fighters team, has been alright so far.

meh, the book was was great before the OYL jump, then it got all weird, i cant explain it but pre OYL the stories were better. It's still on my pull list, hoping for the storiesto get better.

It's only 2 issues in. The visual similarity between Alan and Fury is annoying, but it's nothing more than superficial. Alan Scott is still Alan Scott, and he's a vastly different character from Nick Fury.

I think so for the team books. Seeing as the guy is into team books, weather it sucks or not, it's the sort of thing he's looking for. And lets face it, both of those books will rock anyway. I mean come on. WW, well, we'll have to wait and see.

Thanks a lot guys! I picked up 52 # 5 and Wonder Woman # 1 today along with Frontline, and some X-Men back issues. The new JLA sounds great and I plan to get into that when # 0 comes out in July. I'm also looking to get the Teen Titans. I'll start searching for some back issues. Thanks again!

The last couple of years would have been a good jumping on point for comic books.
Both Marvel and DC have saved themselves with a lot of good writers and some top of the line artists.
I am finding it hard between choosing to buy back issues and new comics, but I read a hell of a lot of both.

Really? Funny you should bring that up, I just dumped my girlfriend. It was brutal. I remember she said something about my mother being an ugly b***h, and that she slept with all my friends or something like that. And so, I may have mentioned something about me and her Sister fooling around on there mothers bed a couple of months ago. I of course confirmed this by mentioning her sisters birthmark in a place that is, kinda hard to reach if you know what I mean. Of course this isn't true, I once walked in on her getting out of the shower and saw said birthmark, and remembered because it kinda looked like the state of Florida. Needless to say the consequences of this revelation may have driven a wedge between them that will never be healed. I know, but I can't help it, I'm a petty man. Breaking up a close knit family out of spite is just one more reason I'm probably going to hell. At any rate, not only do I have more free time to spend drinking and reading comics, but I guess I can come here more often too.
