View Full Version : Is Spider-Man The Other any good?

Never read it and I'm it borrowing it off a friend soon, so is it worth my time?

Kraven

No. I thought it was garbage. It started on a good note for about 3 issues then slowly went downhill, providing many questions and few answers. It also didn't really have much of an ending IMO.

I posted this in the other "Other" thread, so here it is again:

I think your time would be better spent slitting your genitals with razor blades and then pouring rubbing alcohol all over yourself. It'll only sting for a few weeks....the sting of "The Other" will be with you forever.

Just my own humble opinion....and that of roughly 75-95% of this board...

Compared to being shot at, it might be considered good. But even then I'd have to think about it.

Yeah I didn't like it as much as Shin did!! :)....seriously....it's a helluva lot easier to forget...if you simply don't read it.....If only I had that 2 hours back :(

If you like your Spider-Man with Wolverine like claws, eating peoples heads, and dressed up like Iron Man, than this is the arc for you

That definately was the point of no return as far as I was concerned. Spidey having retractable bone spears, berserker rage, and eating Morlun's face? WTH!!! Of course, maybe we should've gotten a clue that "The Other: Evolve or Die" was a disaster in the making when Aunt May and Mary Jane donned Iron Man armor and travelled with Spidey to Latveria to see his parents via a time machine (read supped up movie projector) and started fighting Doombots. Or maybe it should've been when Pat Lee was doing the illustration chores every other issue.

It sucked, but since your gettin it free then you might as well read it. Then you can hate it with the rest of us.:D

The fact that JMS and Joe Q. started thinking of ways to undo it 2 months after it wrapped up should tell you something. They want it undone...already. They didn't even give it 6 months. They gave it 2. That's how bad it was.

The artwork wasn't too bad, the story was rancid though. I can't believe that garbage like "The Other" is what people write about. The only reason that I suggest reading it is that if they do decided five years down the road that they might explain all this trash in "The Other", then you know what they are talking about and not completely lost.

It is by far and away the worst Spider-man story that there has ever been. I consider myself a less intelligent person because I wasted my time with that garbage.

If you want a stpry that goes against everything that the character ever stood for, go for it.

If you want a story where the most stupid 'story' ideas take place, go for it.

If you want a story in which they bastardise every character, every poignant moment, the creation of the character itself and pissing all over the people who created him and worked so hard in getting him to where he is today, go for it.

This story goes against everything that is Spider-man.

Just my own humble opinion....and that of roughly 75-95% of this board...I kept thinking that they would combine the threads too... here was my response to shinlyle's post, and the question...

THAT's the rub... this terrible story CHANGED Spider-Man's past, present and future in convoluted and detrimental ways. And even though most people hated it, they just keep shoving it at us.

I wish I could take some brain floss and erase the whole thing... but as much as ignoring, or better, FORGETTING it would be nice, I don't think they are going to let us. :(

Personally I really enjoyed The Other. Towards the end though at the reunion could have been done better. I just hope they finish off the storyline since the ending is rather open and I do like his new powers. I'd rather see these powers used more then the Iron Spidey suit technology. How he saves the girl was really good I feel.

I'm sure Kainedamo is off hiding in a corner somewhere. He'll wait until this threadis on page 2, then he'll bump it up with another staggeringly intelligent post like his past one:

This just in...

I was right. You were wrong. I win. Next time, read the damn story before judging.

Oh right another hater!!.....have you ever tried slitting your genitals and pouring rubbing alcohol on them?/...huh??...the answer is no because clearly your hatred for self - multilation is effecting your objectivity....

....someone could concoct a fabulous method of performing the aforementioned mutilation but because of one bad experience involving a rusty zipper and the desire to go commando.....it's all gotta be bad!!!

But once I saw this was a genital abuse thread....I...just..Oh My God...

the story was pretty lame and some of the art was horrendous.

nice cover though. looks nice.

oy, didn't you check the amazon reviews first?

edit: nevermind, seems there's currently only three reviews for it, and they average to 3.5/5 stars. that's not right. Anyone who can spare a few minutes, it would be a noble effort if we could all contribute poor reviews for this book to warn off future potential victims

damn, that concept is awesome.

it's the spidey version of the vitruvian man!!!

it was almost worth the price just looking at the cover. almost.

I know this is an old, old thread, but I discovered my friend's article synopsis of the Other, and I gotta say: it's genius. I know a lot of folk will enjoy this, as he utterly loathed the Other. And I have to say, so did I.

You know, I just bought it and read it. You know what... I loved it! I was highly entertained from page first to page last. The stinger things were kinda odd, but those were only in his old body anyhow. The felling with webs thing was great in my opinion, and very spider-like. I wish he'd use that power more. It's not the best spidey story, but it sure wasn't the worst.
