I like the after X3. It can be him sitting in the park thinking about the past then after the whole story end with the same chess piece moving scene.

The way I would start it is with the chess piece moving a little bit. Then have it jump into the air and land in a woman's hand with green hair. Polaris would start talking to him about how he has fallen. They would exchange some lines that would lead his to reminising about his past. The flashbacks would show the Holocaust, meeting the Prof., going evil, all his kids and his downfall. I would have it end with the chess piece flying back into his hand and he would say something like he's not done yet.

Personally I say pre-X1, though I guess post-X3 whilst recalling the past would tell the same story, but just with a different perspective.

.. as far as a time era, Perhaps in the 1960’s: there were still Nazi war criminals scattered here and there across the globe.. mutant society was far from mainstream knowledge.. use of plastics in everyday technology was hardly as ubiquitous as it is now (back then, mostly iron/metal based things).. Cold War era politics still in effect—East/West Germany..
