whats up,,,
i used to be a big spidey man in my early teens..when everything was simple,, villain would arise,, spidey would kick his ass,, goes home to MJ,, everyones happy,,, until it got to complecated... I finally decided to give up on spiderman after they finished with theire spider clonage bull ****... then i pretty much boycotted marvel when they took away wolverines metal and turned him into a beast,,, and onslaught killed everyone and the marvel universes started at zero... So a lil over 10 yrs later,, im interested to know whats going on.. who can fill me in??

whats happening with spidey??,, is ben reily (scarlet spider, aka spidey clone) still around??? whats up with the new yellow suit?? whats all this civil war talk??

oh ya and what the ****s up with ultimate spider??? spidey transformed into a teen geek again,,, lil scrawny looking and ****/..

Actually Ultimate Spider-Man is the only good thing about Spider-Man these days.

Petes origin in 616 has been changed so now a crappy spider god basically gave him powers, the ugly suit is from iron man and pete is now his lacky.

Ben Reilly died in 616 but will be coming back to USM soon. Civil War is the latest "massive event" in which the government wants all the heroes to register their real names and come clean with the public so the super hero community is split.

actually i find that wikipedia is usually a pretty good source for an overall view of whats been going on as of late. im sure some beg to differ, but it works for the casual reader(ie me). :o

AlteredEgo

i dont think that they actually changed as much as they did just questioned it. -er, i know that doesnt help explain much, but its kind of a long story and im off to sleep now.

WRONG! Spider-Girl is the best Spider title right now.

And Ben Reilly rules.

Spider-Girl is indeed the best Spidey title right now. Not even a contest.

Happenstance

Thats if you like Spidergirl, personally I just couldnt get into it. Nothing really wrong with it, I think it was just me hating seeing Pete sitting on the sidelines not doing anything.

Hey, if you wanna pass up a damn good book because of some stupid hangup, can't help ya.

Okay, in short fer Spidey:

-Spidey's suffered from lackluster stories and art since the clone saga ended, had a reboot that barely started gettin' better, then went back to original numbers with 500.

-Aunt May now knows who he is. Oh, yeah, she's alive again. Apparently th' one that died was a genetically altered actress. A pseudo clone, if you will.

-JMS threw some life into the series and got generally positive reviews until...

-He revealed Gwen's absence from th' comics in th' 70s was because she had a night of passion with Norman Osborn, had his kids in France who grew up quickly due to th' Goblin formula, and was tricked into goin' after Peter as new Goblins.

-JMS further screwed up by sayin' Spidey's powers are apparently mystical in origin and he's one of many Spider-Men in history, he died and was reborn with additional powers. Many of which have not been used since they debuted. Marvel freely admits this idea was dumb.

-He's got a new costume designed by Iron Man which sucks on purpose because it's only temporary. He's on the Avengers and after th' Parker house was torched they all live in Avengers Tower.

-And Joe Q and JMS have a mad-on fer th' marriage which they seek to end next year citing it as th' cause of ALL of Spidey's current problems. Goblin kids, new origins, and crappy costumes apparently are all just victims of th' marriage.

In even shorter: It's a bad time to be a Spidey fan. I could go into more detail, but why even bother?

Perhaps, but the writing is the most solid, Spidey-like writing out there right now. Unless Slott writes another Human Torch/Spider-Man mini.

WOLVERINE25TH

Which's why it's gettin' canned. Nobody reads good, solid books unless it's one of th' big titles. And that's why crap like The Other is allowed to dominate, 'cause we tell Marvel this is what we want.

Look at Thing, done at 8.
Marvel Team-Up probably won't last past this arc.
Spider-Girl's been strugglin' fer a while.

I'm just surprised She-Hulk isn't in danger yet.

What about Sensational Spidey? It looks like a very good book, Medina art, Puma, Chameleon upcoming......

Yeah, Sen's gettin' there. Waitin' to see how th' arc wraps up before givin' final judgement myself.

Well, considering what happens in Civil War #2, you'll have a hard time getting me to buy ANYTHING Spidey-related. I'll probably keep getting Spider-Girl. That's probably it.

Yeah, I'm VERY seriously thinking about cutting all 616 books minus Nextwave after this.

I'm already there. I was going to drop ALL of my Marvel books, but I'm just having a hard time letting go of the following:

-Daredevil
-Punisher (MAX)
-Spider-Girl
-Ultimates 2
-Ultimate Spider-Man

Everythign else has pretty much been dropped already, or it is something I'm just reading to be reading it...and those are gone as of now.

I just believe Marvel went this route. Nevermind....Joe Q's still in charge....I can believe it.

all your questions except for the USM one have been answered, so in short, it's a what if book. "What if Peter Parker had gotten his powers in 2000 instead of the 1960's?" It's also very very good.

Man...that was a great issue, wasn't it? Garth Ennis may be the best writer in comics right now.

Don't worry, it's safe. Hell it's one of 2 classic heroes that I still enjoy...the other being Daredevil. Besides....Punisher MAX and DD are the only two books that make me just scream "DAAAAYAAMN" every issue. Not many comics do that for me anymore. Punisher actually makes me giggle at some parts.

Does that make me sick in the head?

you obviously dont understand the concept of parody, or perhaps you just never read any old Nick Fury or Avengers books...and how could you say stuff like the flash back to X-Factor in the last issue wasnt funny, that one panel summed up the entire 90's run of that book

That was too awesome....I felt guilty for a week after enjoying that so much....

...and let's not forget the video he made of the Old Man....a message to other potential Slavers, tapes himself pouring gasoline on him....sticks his face in the camera lens with lighter in hand, "don't come back"...and engulfs the guy......atta way to play dime store psychologist Frank....

DareDevil and Punisher, at this point, are the only safe Marvel titles I have now....and if I keep finding what appear to be unexpected gems in DC like Green Lantern...they may soon find themselves as my only Marvel titles.

I haven't picked up a 616 Marvel book in a long time, except those Giant-Size books that came out a few months ago. I've only been reading Ultimate Spider-Man and X-Men pretty much. I'm thinking of reading Nextwave, though. For the most part I've been reading trades of things from the 80's.

Pauley Shore is good in small doses...The problem with him was he just kept making the same damn movie over and over again. But Encino Man was great :o

spider-man is my ultimate favorite marvel character... that being said... a few months ago i dropped all spidey book and i don't regret it. never again will i read Amazing, Sensational, or friendly. marvel keeps f***in with and f***ing up spidey that i'm starting to hate him. i like new avengers but i might stop getting it because spidey's a main character in there. if spidey guest starred in books i get that would be fine because it's not about him. that's all.

Thing is gone? ...AGAIN?!? that's bulls***!! Marvel, you suck sooo hard....

Do you even like ANYTHING? All I've seen you do is say how this sucks and that sucks without giving any kind of relevant reason other than saying that it's "retarded" or "stupid".

Maybe you should not read comic books anymore.

Maybe you should learn to read th' bought/thoughts more, bunky. What, you want a whole dissertation on my opinions? Toldja it wasn't funny. Want more? Fine. It killed a couple characters I really liked when they were serious. Want another? Fine. I'm not easily amused by shiny objects. I grew up in an age when stories were stories, so excuse me if I'm not gonna settle fer half th' **** they cram down our throats in the name of NEW and EXCITING directions.

The book isn't funny. The jokes are pointless. Ooooh, fleshy ones! To me, my X-bait! It's as funny as I'm the goddamn Batman. Maybe if Slott wrote it it'd be humorous, but fer now it's a piece of satirical trash. I know what I like and that's all I need. Sorry I can't write an entire page like Dread, but I just ain't that articulate; especially when one word can say exactly what that page would say anyways.

And I'm sick and ****ing tired of bein' told all I do is give negative comments. If that's what ya wanna focus on, then that's yer problem. Everyone's negatives are always more vocal than their positives. EVERYONE. That's how it is. Maybe if there was more good **** out there I could give more positive ones, but there ain't so I can't. So until **** improves, DEAL WITH IT!

As for this thread if you want to buy a Spidey comic get Sensational, the rest are pretty dodgy.

WOLVERINE25TH your soooo aggressive. im ACTUALLY scared of you. Powers is amazing, nobody drop it. Thing is a lovable character, i get that, but i never imagined it'd make a good book. Therefore its probs views like that that got it cancelled. I read FF: a death in the family and after learning the whole "lasting effects" promise tagged to it was a bare-faced lie i was ready to give up. Powers and Hunter-Killer(despite its faults) and The Walking Dead keep me in comics. Spidey (cos he's changed so much) got me back into them. im hooked again but i would like all these major spidey changes to STOP NOW!!!!
