Ok, it seems to me that a lot of people are really pissed about this.
So, my question is this:
Who is dropping Spider-Man and / or Marvel?
What books are you dropping?
I dropped every single Marvel book at the conclusion of Sins Past.
I also sold every comic I ever owned.
The only ones I am getting, I am downloading. And they are all Civil War related. I will not ever give Marvel another cent. Except for their cut of Movie ticket prices.

Around sins past... I Dropped buying MARVEL COMICS... the only way AMrvel gets my cash is through ML, Movies, their "Ultimate Guides" and the occasional Videogame.. but not from comic books...
Yes I know that I can get info from the Web, but I also like to have them in book form as a reference...

I'm just done with 616 Spidey, and I'm dropping alot of the Marvel books I used to get. I'll stick with Ultimate Spidey until Joe Q sticks his little nose into that one, too. I'll probably be reading about 7 monthly books, one of them is a mini, and one of them is a monthly that's about to be cancelled.

Actually, I've quit a long time ago.. During that Ben Reilly as Spider-Man (Senssasssssssional S-M I guess) back like 9 years ago.
The ONLY one im reading Ultimate S-M
I rater had good memories of spider-man, than reading non-sense BS (my opinion), But I'm still a fan of all the spider-man suff around (games, movies, toys...)
Let's just say that I started to read more on the Venom stories (old and new ones).
For the other Marvel titles, I nevers read them (x-man is way to complex). I would have to read all of em to get in the action.

I dropped most Spider-Man titles halfway through 'Sins Past' and resolved never to pay for anything written by J. Michael Straczinsky again. I was buying much fewer Marvel titles by that point, but I don't remember what the straw that broke this camel's back was-- the moment I swore off contemporary Marvel titles altogether (probably something Bendis did, or several things at once he did).
Like you, I'll still check out movies and video games. I'll pay for Essential collections for certain titles, too, since that's where I can find good, or at least decent stories.
Wait, there's one exception; the 'Books of Doom' which finished coming out recently. Other than that, no current Marvel titles at all. I still read several titles to keep tabs on this whole disgusting situation (I also read books about serial killers in my free time-- for both cases, it's all about morbid curiosity), usually several at a time every week. I always feel the need to buy at least one thing if I'm reading comics for free, and that's usually a Batman comic or a TPB of an older story.

Very good. I'm a Millar-fan, so I'm willing to see CW to it's conclusion. I can't blame anyone else for wanting to drop it like a bad habit, though. Yeah, SG is on the list as well....I just hate that it's going to be cancelled...especially now.

The problem with Spider_girl is that there is none.
It's the markting department.
they push crap, not the good stuff.
So Spider-Girl gets it while some book that doesnt deserve daylight stays.

Seeing Civil War through to the end
Dropped ASM after the "Other" fiasco
Gave FNSM 2 stories to win me over...it didn't...buh bye
Sensational likely gone after "Feral"...but not automatic at this point.
Marvel has really lost it's "I'll give em the benefit of the doubt" clout with me...want me as a reader??...entertain me...if not...there's always DC!!
For me it's not about when I'll drop issues but when I'll bring them back to my pull list......and from what I can see...it aint going to be any time soon!

And yeah, Marvel doesn't get a "benefit of the doubt" from me anymore, either. It's bitten me in the ass several times, and I'm done with it. ASM on my pull list any longer, neither is FNSM. SSM is in there until they start dealing with this crap....which will probably be in the next arc.
I never thought I'd see the day when the only Spidey book I read was written by Bendis....

Okay....you can quit with the "stop overreating" posts. It's getting old.
I have yet to see one person overreact. People are angry with a company, then they stop buying the company's products. It's called being a consumer. There's nothing wrong with it at all.
If Coca-Cola came out and changed their formula, and people didn't like it, then why should they keep buying it? They didn't. Coke began to plummet, and they fixed the problem. Same thing here.
You like the story, we get that. Alot of us, however, find this to be an apalling treatment of a character, and we feel betrayed.
If this were Batman or Superman, people would be dropping every DC book and screaming holy murder.
Seeing as how Spider-Man is just as widely known and loved as the two of them, I see these reactions to actually be less extreme than I thought.

...the real problem is as you've started before...the collossal cluster$%^% that's likely going to be every Spidey title for god knows how long...hopefully your "maybe it'll be undone within Civil WAr" prediction will come true...here's hoping

Hmmm Marvel still has some good comics out there, DD is pretty good right now and so is Hulk. Usually I dont read those 2 books but recently I have found myself buying those two books instead of 616 Spider-Man (might have to start buying Amazing Spiderman again for the Civil War tie in). Also the Ultimate line of comics are catching and keeping my interest, even Ultimate FF (Which is surprising since I never liked 616 FF).
I still read the 616 Spider-Man from time to time to see what is going on, but I dont buy them (I just steal my friends copy when they are not looking).

im not gonna give up the books, though JMS and Joey Q have ticked me off jsut as much as you guys. im not a subscriber, and i have all of JMS's run up to where spidey stopped Hydra. but i stay current and read stuff on the internet alot.
i think that eventually Joey Q will come to his senses and have him put his mask back on, lose the powers, stick with MJ, and fight the bad guys like he used to. No retcons, no visits from Uncle ben, no more pregnant dead girlfriends, no more spider-gods, totums, no more nothing that the current writers have brought.
man,...i remember the good old days back in the 80's when the greats like todd mcfarlane, erik larsen, mark bagley, and alex saviuk were drawing the books.....i miss those days. no crap to deal with

ASM - dropped during the mess that was 'The Other'.
FNSM - same as ASM.
MKSM/SSM - dropped during 'The Other' but started again for the 'Feral' arc. Will be getting dropped right after that though.
Civil War - will try to last to the end with this...but I can't see it happening.
CW: Frontline - same as Civil War.

Agreed. Any & all hate & animosity should be directed at Joe Q & his 'lackeys' & them alone. Marvel isn't the problem...it's Joe Q.
So dropping all Marvel titles is a bit on the extreme side (IMO), but if people feel they need to go that extra step, then that's their choice.

The thing is... maybe it's my eternal cursed optimistic side :( ... I can actually see a light at the end of this Civil War tunnel for Spider-Man if Marvel can execute it properly. Which might help wash away what seems to be an eternity of bad Spidey storytelling.
We all know that Peter will be the Wild Card in this Civil War, and it's been suggested that he won't be able to stomach a severe beating of Captain America by the likes of Tony & friends... which will make Spidey switch sides. Depending on wether or not this registration becomes law, it could put Spidey back on an "outlaw" hero status that was the basic root of his early adventures.
I don't necessarily agree nor like what I saw in Civil War #2, but I do see a dim hope for a potential return to a semblance of greatness in the Spidey books... which is a heck of a lot better than the storytelling we've had now for the last decade.
Just my 2 cents... :)

Exactly. The same applies to the movies.
The reasons I don't feel really stupid paying once to see a movie adaptation I know is going to be massively watered down or otherwise flawed is because it's bound to be more exciting than a badly written comic (if there's any good action in there), it's a one-shot thing that can be analyzed after a couple of hours rather than over the course of months of waiting for "decompressed" (i.e. heavily watered down with useless filler) storytelling, and I don't have to find somewhere to put the damn thing when I'm home.
If I were to continue to pay for a continuous series that costs more than a movie for a story arc that would take about half as long to read, that would be all kinds of stupid, instead of just one.

Well, the decisions that people make are their own and based on themselves, and who am I to tell someone what's best for them lest I walk a mile in their shoes... which I haven't.
I've been buying Spider-Man monthly now for over 28 years and it's been 31 since my first Spidey purchase, and I've seen a LOT of great stories, and a few stinkers as well.
And while I really haven't enjoyed the quality of the Spider-books of the last while, I am really holding on to the fact that Marvel can really turn the Spidey status around with this Civil War thing... which is very promising to me.

Punisher.
Daredevil.
She-Hulk.
Spider-Girl.
Runaways.
Young Avengers.
Cable & Deadpool.
Captain America.
Thunderbolts.
Ms. Marvel.
Moon Knight.
Marvel Team-Up.
Just some of th' STILL quality Marvel reads. If yer gonna ignore these books to make a point, then yer morons. These will be nuttin' more than collateral damage. Th' books you should ignore are th' ones with problems. THAT'S how a message gets sent. All ignorin' quality titles will do is give Q a reason to revamp them, put th' wrong people on them, and turn them into th' typical crap he's been givin' us.
You wanna send a message to Marvel? Drop th' crap, buy th' quality. Simple. This is our Civil War. Choose a side, don't skip th' country.

Check this out, we're working in the motorpool on our vehicles and I leave to go by the comicshop on my lunch break. I get back to the MPool and head for the break room, I'm reading CW#2 and I find myself getting in a sour and sour and sour mood.
I leave the breakroom to check up on my guys and they haven't finished their PMCS(Preventive Maintenance Checks & Services) on the Hummers and I just flip out! hounding the **** out of them, then it hits me why I'm so pissed!
F-cking Spider-man! is out of the superhero closet and I want to beat the living **** out of Joey Q, but I can't of course. So I calm down and let my guys take an extended break and all forgiven.
pathetic ain't it?

Look man, I'm stuck in the Army with Iraq and Afghnistan looming over my head for a possible redeployment(most likely I'm not going again.) I'm highly stressed and the only good thing throughout my day is when I sneak in a comic or two between work.
So if I'm a little intense I got a reason for it.

Let me give you an analogy....your fav drink is a 3 blueberry wine Spritzer..(I'm Canadian I drink beer...I know nothing of fancy drinks hence the stupid name).....and the only place to get said drink is at Marvel Pub and grill.
So one day you frequent said bar......for no reason whatsoever the waitress throws the drink in your face, kicks you in the n*&^ as you're getting up....and management's only response is to laugh at you..... you do what?
1/ Continue to drink at Marvel because it has your fav drink?
2/ Demand management treat you with the respect you deserve as a patron of the establishment??
Dude, they're not morons, they just have sore n#$%'s!!!

That's really not an apt analogy at all. That says that they're doing something to directly harm you. Marvel hasn't done anything like that. Now, what would make more sense would be if the pup changed the ingredients to your favorite drink, making it something you rather disliked or didn't like as much. And in that case, I, personally, would stay is I also liked their sandwitches.

I disagree that my analogy is not apt as you put it....but far be it for me to not see it from another side......
...you'd stay for the sandwiches?....that's fine.....many people would consider a bar, that you've been a patron of for countless years, not worthy of your hard earned money if they don't have the decency to make a drink that at least resembles the drink you savoured for all those years....or at least not question your intelligence by telling you it's the same freaking drink!!!....those people would tell Marvel pub & grill to shove their sandwiches up their azz.....
...once again these people are not morons........they're simply irritable from indigestion!!/.....as opposed to any groin malady
...more apt for ya chief? ;)

Point.
I'm still very much a Marvel guy, I'm still gonna buy and enjoy NextWave and She-Hulk, but Marvel's not gonna see a cent for Spider-man from me.
I forsee a backlash on the horizon for Marvel if CW doesn't end spectacularly.

not in my opinion....it's demanding your buck gets the biggest bang.....vendors have to earn your dollars....believe it or not...there's other restaurants that if you give them a chance....they'll give you just what it is you're looking for,....you'll never know that if you keep throwing your money at establishments that assume "loyalty".....that assume "they can piss in your lemonade.....as long as the rack of lamb. is 2 for the price of 1.."
(Man I am so freaking hungry!!)
I should state....I myself am not dropping all my marvel titles.....just defending the reasoning of those who have in case I find myself there some day!

That's a great idea. Let's all boycott Spider-man. That way, they don't bring in GOOD creative teams or try hard because sales are up. Let's just let one of America's biggest pop-culture icons die, and let's let the fans be the cause.

You guys all lost me with your analogy at the first mention of a sandwitch.
To put it plainly, I dont give two cents about Marvel as a company. If they have good books I buy them, if those books become bad I drop them until they get good again, simple as that. Right now I dont buy any of the 616 Spiderman books, but I do buy other Marvel titles. Some of those titles are -
Hulk
Daredevil
Spider-Girl
Ultimate Spiderman
Ultimate Fantastic Four
Ultimates (well when the next issue comes out anyway)
Ultimate X-Men (I will probably drop this after the current Pheonix arc is done)
I also get a couple of DC comics (Batman/Teen Titans/Catwoman/Green Lantern) and a couple of Image comics (Walking Dead/Invincible/Spawn) and some small publisher books that people sometimes recommend to me.
For me to stop buying any Marvel comics because I dont like Spiderman and what they have done to him is in my mind stupid. I would rather help those writers in Marvel that are doing a good job rather than make them pay for what their co-workers have done. Also I am not one of those people that are stuck on writers, I just buy books on the merit of each book. If a seriece is good I do tend to forgive them if they make a few mistakes or I dislike a few issues, but if it concistently goes downhill I stop buying it until I see some kind of improvment.
That is all that matters to me. I dont care much about the Publisher or the writter or to a lesser extent even the character. Hell I used to hate the Hulk whenever he made any kind of appearance in comic books I used to read. I have a friend who is a huge Hulk fan who has tried to "convert" me for many years now (I usually have to treaten bodily damage before I am left in peace). One day to my surprise my friend inlisted the help of my other friends to convince me to read the latest issue of Hulk (which they assured me was a good read, and after being bullied by so many of my friend I relented). That issue of Hulk was of course Incredible Hulk #92, which was the start of Planet Hulk. To my utter surprise I enjoyed that issue and continue to buy each new issue of Hulk. That experience has taught me never to totaly dismiss any comic book title. I might not like where 616 Spiderman is right now, but hopefully there will come a time when it will again be in my "to buy" list, however for now it is under my "Watch and see" list.

I'm not sure if I made my point clear enough earlier:
There are NO current Marvel books that I feel are worth buying, so anyone who thinks I'm boycotting Marvel over one or two books and dares to call that "overreacting," you know where you can cram that worthless assumption.
I am, however, boycotting JMS and Bendis in general, on principal. That concerns nobody but me, and for anyone who thinks that there's anything to criticize there, I really have to wonder how you'll manage to tie your shoes and remember to feed and clothe yourselves when your precious pet writers retire, get fired or die. Think for your Goddamn selves and don't presume to ask others to share your preferences.
