I'm a Batman fan and very familiar with at least the top 5 Batman graphic novels of all time: Year One, DKR, TLH, DV etc.

Does anyone have a list of top 5 Superman graphic novels? I'm familiar with "Birthright" but didn't quite like it because of the Africa setting and all that; Batman's Hush wasn't good for me as well.

Any input will be appreciated. :)

the african setting in birthright was only for a couple of issues it moved to familiar territory pretty quickly (if you haven't read all of it I recommend it).

but for me in no order

Superman : Secret Identity (just got this today and just read it and its one of the best things i've ever read).
Superman Red Son
Any graphic novel that collects both "For the man who has everything" and "whatever happened to the man of tomorrow" by alan moore
A Superman for all seasons
All star superman (once it's collected)

I just picked up For Tomorrow Vol. 1 because the art is from Jim Lee. I'm now thinking I maybe shouldn't have, since most reviews aren't particularly good.

I'm not an avid comic reader, especially with Superman, but it's Jim Lee. His work is just so fantastic.

The superman/batman series is also great and they are collected in hardcover volumes

what exactly is Superman For All Seasons about? I know it takes place early on in his career as Superman, and it's by Loeb and Sale...I have it in my pull box at my comic store cause I've heard good things and they just got a bunch of Superman TPBs in for Superman Returns so I decided to pick it up next time I get comics, but I still have no idea what it's about...

You know, there are some others that haven't really made anyone's list yet. I actually like Superman vs. Alien.

And, if you're counting All Star, then I'd have to include Man Of Steel.

Secret Identity is pretty good.

I read 'For All Seasons' this past week. Simply amazing. At first I didn't really care for Sale's art. But it matches Loeb's writing perfectly.

I just got For All Seasons...I dont see how anyone can not love Sale's artwork, it fits the stories Loeb does so perfectly, and shows everything doesnt have to be big complicated splash pages with tons of detail to be beautiful...simplicity at it's greatest

For whatever reason, Amazon only has Superman For All Seasons used from other retailers. I'm just going to try and get it from the library.

Also, I saw Death Of, and Return Of Superman up there but what about World Without A Superman? Complete the trilogy, yay or nay? Also is the novelization any good?

Are these titles recommended?

1.) Death Of, World Without A, Return Of Superman
2.) The novelization of above by Roger Stern
3.) All volumes of Byrne's Man of Steel series

Spike_x1

1) Yes.
2) Not necessarily, unless you're a diehard fan of those storylines. If you have #1, you don't need #2.
3) Yes, definitely.

I find Byrne's Man of Steel stuff to be just unreadable. I gave mine away; it seemed wrong to take money from someone for them.

The entire Death and Return saga...My favorite to date.

And just for kicks and giggles, the one where he changed into the Blue Electric suit. I dont remember the name, and it's locked up somewhere in my garage but I love how seriously it was taken. Especially on the back.."Forget Everything You Knew About Superman" ...lol...

Hey everyone I am pretty new to the boards but have been using this site for superhero news for a while. Like the creator of this topic, I am mostly a batman comic fan, but now I want to expand and start reading some superman comics.

I was curious if there were any good Superman Graphic Novels that featured Darkseid as the main villain.

Superman/Batman: Supergirl is pretty good. Not great. Great climactic fight betwixt Supes and Big D.

I'm also going to add Birthright.I finished this a while back.Despite the dragged out flashback scenes in the middle,it's great for anyone new to Superman. It touches on what would drive a man to put on a suit and try to make a difference.

As I said, the flashback was the only thing that irked me.

I have Death of Superman and plan to get World Without A Superman and Return of Superman soon.
I've also got Birthright, Sacrifice and For Tomorrow (vol. 1 at the moment with vol. 2 on its way) as well as the first issue of Secret Identity (the other three are in my pull box). I'll be getting For All Seasons and Kingdom Come as well.

Can anyone tell me if Godfall is any good?

Hi, I love to read the Elseworlds' stories and I found Superman's Superstar really good and the Darksied too was brilliant. Unfortunately, it isn't easy to find comics here in my country and therefore I am only able to read what's available through the net. Anyway, I have some confusion that I hope the fellow forummers be able to dispel. Well, Could someone please tell me what are Graphic Novels? I know that the DKR series and Kingdom Come are called Graphic Novels, but why is that, has it got something to do with the number of pages, special editions or is it somthing else. Please help.
