View Full Version : Who here misses the Clone Saga? (based on everything else)

Considering that ever since Quesada and JMS took over, who wouldn't want to see the Clone Saga back if we could get rid of everything that took place starting with the whole "Totems" ?

Yes, we would have clones galore, the return of Osborn (which I loved the idea of him being the clone mastermind), etc. but at least some good came out of it for the average reader (i.e. the creation of Scrier, Kaine, Traveller, when there was a PREGNANT Mary Jane).

I am just asking people to look at the whole and realize that in retrospect, the Clone Saga was pulitzer writing compared to everything else (Osborn/Gwen, the Other, and now his unveiling to the whole world)...I am afraid MJ's death is next, no matter what Joe Q said in interviews about not divorcing them, I see him as a sneaky car salesman and wouldn't be surprised if he is a part of a evil cult that wants to brainwash people.

In reality, th' clones were whittled down quite a bit by th' time Ben donned th' webs. As of then, there were only two Spider-clones and th' Gwen clone.

And considerin' I started a Ben Reilly thread, you can say I've missed it before all this crap. Actually, I'm kinda glad Ben didn't survive now...'cause then I'd hafta watch one of my favorite characters be crapped on like this.

Well, I missed it way before all this too: Hence my name - Ben Reilly.
I even wrote a 20+ issue fan fiction about his return.
I'm not sure if I should post it or not.

At least the clone saga, at it's base, was about keeping the essence of what Spider-Man really is alive. (The angst-ridden guy trying to balance a normal life against Herodom while knowing that letting his secret slip would be the death of his loved ones and any chance of a normal life)

Revealing his identity kills Spider-Man.

Because he is the dichotomy between those two roles. He's not just a guy in tights, he's also that "everyman" that we all can identify with. No more.

Now JQ may think this is a clever (like he could even define that word) way to get Peter out of the Mary Jane death trap by providing a poigniant reason why Superheroes MUST keep their masks: the death of the guy everybody loves' sweet wife. That would make for a dramatic end to Civil War but you still end up with a dead Spidey.

Revisit the clone debacle? You've GOT to be kidding?! Hey, why not have him wake up in the shower and say the whole thing was a dream? It's a dreadful storyline that even the chief editor at the time admitted was a mistake. It destroyed nearly 20 years of story continuity and ultimately killed that initial run. Let's find some writers who actually know how to write, and start working on character development again! Hell, the only thing these poor boys know how to do is change his outfit and have their frustrated artists draw splash pages of Parker waking up next to MJ depicted as a Playboy playmate. It's the very definition of a hardup nerd behind the wheel of our beloved character. How old are these writers anyway? 14? Perhaps younger? The lack of intelligent writing and illustration is sad at best. Anymore I just visit the comic shop for second hand DVDS and CDs and shake my head at the comics. The tone of Spiderman comics is immature and quite frankly, embarrassing. Marvel should be ashamed.

They are and the cWo is quite pumped for it

However Ultimate tends to take certain liberties and deviations with familiar stories...

Hopefully, it turns out good. Nothing can top the greatness of the '70's and '90's Clone Sagas

It sounds alot like its going to be alot like the 70's Clone Genesis

Bendis has the whole previously dead Gwen Stacy showing up at Peter's place alive and well like the original

:spidey:
