I mean seriously, he's only what, 15ish and he's making semi-sucessful attempts at cloning Conner?
The dudes not even done with highschool and he's trying to clone. Thats a bit out of the norm for anyone if you ask me.

he's 17 now and he's a prodigy. and he hasnthad any semi-sucess with the cloning at all.

He's still got the whole "robin-cave" thing going on though.

Yes he is, he has Batman level smarts at the least.

A genius would've tapped Rose Wilson - twice.

Ehhh... I'll say Tim's extremely gifted. But cloning isn't exactly something new there. And there's a GOOD chance Batman has tons o' info on that stuff. All he has to do is put together the proven information, especially since he knew Kon's lineage.

Shes worth the trouble. :D
Actually, a genius is considered "crazy". Batman's willing to date Catwoman. That's crazy.
Tim, a teenage boy with raging sexual hormones, won't even THINK about going for it with a naked girl on top of him already kissing him? Maybe that's crazy too. Or maybe that just kind of insinuates into his already odd obsession with Superboy? O.o

i don't care if his cloning has been unsuccessful so far, for a 17 year old kid to even understand what he needs to clone somebody is impressive.

The information is already there for him.
A middle school drop out could make Killer Mustard Gas if the instructions were right in front of him and the supplies provided.
I'm not saying Tim's not smart. He's extremely smart. Batman even said he'll be a way better detective than he is one day. I'm just not going to give a kid credit where credit isn't really due I feel.

Funny thing is, its so easy to clone people by your perception right though the Brain until recently hadnt been able to do it.

I...actually don't understand what you're trying to say, but it sounds like you're saying he couldn't do it up until now. To which, I'll say that he hasn't had a heavy desire to go around cloning his lost friends up until now.

Ummm OYL no one has been able to do it, The Brain only was able to complete it recently, but youre saying its as easy as opening up a copy of CLoning for Dummies, apparently it isnt.

Cloning had been done before. Hence, how Kon-El came around the first time. So the info was a bit on the old side on how to do it. And, like I said, Batman would most likely have this kind of information on hand for review. Seeing how Batman would be the type to want to know it for whatever crazy reason Batman would. But really, people don't clone like crazy in the DCU. So really, it's just not rampid, so the ability to clone is probably a lot more common than one would think. That and I believe Lex was utilizing a cloned body. But with that one, I may be wrong.
And really OYL, just because it seems like nobody has been able to do it doesn't make Tim the new top geneticist of all Earth just because he's the first one to try it since then.

Yeah a teenager who is trying to clone someone and has all the resources tod o it it's a little over the top. Plus the fact that people always say how smart he is or will be makes him such a difficult character to relate to.

That part doesn't bother me. I could easily see a smart kid grasping several parts about the genetics, or even all of it really. Just not him. He's an awesome detective. Pretty much the best. But just... he's not an awesome geneticist.

Do you mean this Brain?
http://www.gerhard-kerner.at/Comics/Pinky_Brain/pinky15.gif?SSImageQuality=Full:confused:
'Cause, that episode was the best, when The Brain tried to clone Superboy as his personal minion, but since he was a clone of a clone the DNA was degraded and the only thing 'Super' about him was his teenage angst and moodiness (and he looked like a caricature of Tom Welling, LOL!) and The Brain can't take it so he ships him off to Military school. Then Pinky wanted a super-clone of his own, so he cloned Bat-Mite and names him Bat-Mite Forever and they went around saying "Narf!" in unison at everything, annoying the hell out of the Brain, who gets sick of being surrounded by all the stupidity and tries to clone himself as his new sidekick. But Pinky and Bat-Mite Forever are practicing their Irish step-dancing in the lab and screw up the experiment and the clone turns out to be Bizzaro-Brain! And Pinky and Bat-Mite Forvever think his Bizzaro speak is hilarious, so they all start talking in Bizzaro-speak and The Brain snaps and buys a gun and tries to shoot Pinky but Bat-Mite Forever takes the bullet for him, and then Brain realizes what he's become and shoots himself in the face. Then the episode ends with Pinky asking Bizzaro-Brain, "So, Bizzaro-Brain, what are they not going to do this morning?" and Bizzaro-Brain goes, "Same thing they never do every morning, Pinky -- not try to take over the world!"
Classic. It wasn't recent, though. That show is pretty old.

I like how people usually harp on the whole Robin-cloning-Superboy-thing for giving Robin smarts he shouldn't have. Did we all read the bit where's he already failed about a hundred times, and it's a computer doing the work for him?

Yeah, though I assume its a lot more complicated than push big red button to begin.

Funny thing is, its so easy to clone people by your perception right though the Brain until recently hadnt been able to do it.
Bizarro is a clone.
Cadmus has had success with clones for years.
Luthor is currently in a cloned body (unless that was retconned).
The Guardian (not the 7 Soldiers one) is a clone.
The (current) Newsboy Legion are clones of a group of scientists that work for Cadmus.
Kon-El was a clone.
Brain mentioned that they've been providing clones as part of the weaponry people have ordered from them for years. Granted, the clones are unstable and decay, but they ARE still clones like the Jay Garrick one.
Cloning has been around for years and is still around. What we're apparently lead to believe is that now that apparently Cadmus is non-existant (apart from the abandoned labs) no one knows how to make STABLE clones, but cloning is still possible.
In regards to Tim, I think that he's smarter than the average kid his age. I don't know if it's enough to say that he's a genius. Maybe he's very focused and that's what makes him appear to be a genius. In regards to his operating cloning machinery....doesn't anyone realize that he already had it when TT OYL started and that we don't know where he got it or who gave it to him? Could it be he's keeping it secret because someone he said he wouldn't work with again took his words back and is helping him? I don't know, food for thought.

Hey, in speaking about the clone thing: i was looking through my old tpb of the return of superman and the introduction of superboy and had these questions:
Tropico just mentioned that lex luthor was a clone, and i remembered something about that when i was reading about Luthor II, being all Fabio-outed with long flowing hair, beard and open shirts and was wondering:
When did Luthor go back to the classic bald super-genius manipulator?
How was the whole Luthor II thing resolved, or was it just retconned, and
When did superboy stop being a little jerk and become the awesome superboy that he became. Was it thanks to Geoff Johns?
Alright, a bit off topic perhaps but just a brain fart. I'm still confused on how old Tim Drake is. In the last issue of 52 it mentioned something during Donna Troy's bit about how everything that has happened to batman in his history with all the robins and bat girls and nightwings happened in about a year. Thats just nuts. Wasn't he only 12 or so when he first entered the picture?

I think there were some Superman issues where there was some "clone disease" going around and lamost killed Luthor and I think it was what left him bald again. But, I'm not sure since I don't regularly follow Supes titles. Or maybe it goes back to the new retcon of his origin (I hate that!).
I know Kon's attitude shifted a bit after his girlfriend died (Tana Moon). After that it looks like they did try to make him less jerkish during his Teen Titans days.

When did they retcon that Luthor's a clone out?
Anyway, I feel confident in saying Tim's a genius. He has the brainpower to exceed Batman someday, and I doubt it's much of a question whether Batman's a genius. Tim just hasn't actually filled his brain with as much stuff as Batman has yet. So basically Tim is a genius but the amount of knowledge he has isn't quite up there with the other comic geniuses yet because he's still a teenager who's divided his time between superheroics and his education.
Remember how Spider-Man was a genius but he had to drop out of grad school because his Spider-Man schedule was too hectic? Same thing with Tim. Being a superhero is a blessing and a curse for him because it's holding him back from realizing his full potential mentally while also providing him opportunities to learn some things he never would if he were a "normal" kid.

Batman's not a genius. Batman just studied at the school of CSIU. Also known as the Monarchs of the Somehow He Solved the Damn Case Without Making Any Sense by Seeing the Hair Fiber Half Way Across the City. Plus, genius' tend to do things than nobody really does before them. A gas propelled gun and bullet proof vest is hardly genius material. Maybe a "genius" detective. But not a genius literally.
And Batman said that Tim would exceed him as a detective.
But then again, Batman can recognize complex chemical compounds without actually seeing them for more than three or four seconds. Wish I had superhuman brain computation abilities like that.
As for the Spiderman thing. He actually got his little homemade toys to tune into his own Spider Sense. THAT'S genius. Any kid with the internet can make gas pellets.

Batman's a genius because of his capacity for learning...
bulok
06-20-2006, 01:16 PM
Batman's not a genius, he is dedicated and well trained...
Tim is a genius because he figured out with great deductive reasoning from clues and circumstantial evidence the identity of Batman and Robin. He was probably like age 6 or something when he first saw Dick's parents killed, and he remembers everything from that day.
It's never been mentioned but I bet he has some sort of photographic memory as well. But his deductive reasoning has been well advanced for his age right from the get go.
