Still, that's damn impressive. Anyone who has seen the movie, does Brando...uh, Jor-el say more than this?

Brando never wanted to return to Superman ever and if he was alive he would not be attach to the lost footage of Superman 2 the directors cut.
Brando didn't even memorise his lines and only did superman for money. Brando disliked the movie and once said he never even watched it or something to that extent.
The fact is Brando is in Superman returns cause he is dead had he been alive that would not be the case and singer should know that

that all depends on who owns the footage, it's essentially the same as re-editing STM to make a new preview out of the old films (lets say for a dvd re release). They're just taking footage that they own, and are doing movie stuff to it. That's life.
and besides, Brando has achieved a measure of immortality, Palpatine and Vader would be so jealouse.
MR. MOVIEMAN
06-19-2006, 07:53 PM
that isn't the case Brando was never paid for the footage in superman 2 ergo it could never be used while he was alive , its only happening now because he is dead and his estate gave the go ahead.

Brando didn't even memorise his lines and only did superman for money.
For a self-declared movie man, your knowledge of Brando is quite limited and skewed.
First of all, he RARELY memorized his lines. It was his own method of method acting. He was notorious for this; he used to tape his lines to items in front of him hidden from camera's view during shooting. He felt this was his best way of conveying an emotion from a line, and considering he is considered one of the finest actors in the world, apparently he was correct.
In fact, it's rumored that some of his lines are taped to baby Kal-el's diaper in the scene when he sends his son off!
Second, he actually contributed to the Superman mythology..for the better. It was HIS idea to have the 'S' symbol on his own tunic as representative of his family or clan or what have you. That has now become through the comics and even TAS as established, and even obviously carries over to SR.
Who cares why he did Superman. It's one of the more memorable aspects of the first film, and his whole cosmic lesson to his son in the middle part before Clark becomes Superman is one of my favorite scenes in the whole movie.
Superfreak

So.....blame his ****ing estate.......they're supposed to do what he would have wanted.....
thank you, finally...
anyhow, whoever has the run of his estate is probably being well compensated. So, as a father, Brando is helping those he cares about (we assume they are those he left the estate to) from beyond the grave. As my beloved Hackman Luthor/Otis momment goes, 'What more could anyone ask'

Actually, I had the great opportunity to have dinner with Tom Mankiewicz a few months ago--he said that Brando had his lines on cue cards. But Donner liked to play jokes on set, and Brando had claimed he didn't know the lines. So during a take, Donner mixed up the cue cards, and sure enough, Brando nailed every line. Donner just smiled at him after the take and called him a faker. haha it was a much better story when Mankiewicz told it. He told a few Brando stories, as well as some nice Christopher Reeve stories I hadn't heard before.
Michael Corleone
06-19-2006, 08:56 PM
Brando is also on record as saying the reason he did Superman was because he wanted something his children and grandchildren could enjoy and watch him in. And yes Brando even had place cards with his lines on the desk and on the wall in The Godfather.

I'm not entirely sure about that...I mean Mr. Brando DID record dialogue for "The Godfather: The Game".
Considering his willingness to participate in a videogame, it's possible he may had been open to "reprising" his role for Superman Returns, were he still alive.

Yeah he was famouse for that. That was his method of acting. a lot of actors felt that he did it because he was too lazy to learn his lines, but it worked for him.

06-19-2006, 09:47 PM

No. he would ahve agreed to it had teh Salkind's paid him. It was during the shooting that he found out he was not getting paid and the Salkind's told Donner that they were scrapping Brando's lines in 2. That was one of the things that started the Donner/Salkind fued. Had they paid him his fee and the legal bills then he would have consented to be in 2. But the Salkinds already had their Superman 2 and they didn't need to do it. The younger Salkind knows that with Returns coming out, and this being released about the time returns is released in DVD, he will make boatloads of money.

Here's an idea, why don't you save your snide comments next time and actually debate the issue instead of acting like some pompus, high horse jerk.
Nivek's comeback: "Oh the irony that you called me a high horse jerk" or something to that extent. So predictable.
Nivek's comeback to that: "I'm predictable? Here is why you're predictable".
See how boring this has become Nivek? So how about you just learn that people have GAAAAAAAASP different opinions than you and move on (here it comes...something about me telling people about differing opinions)

Actually there's a fair bit of truth to what he said.
Although Brando shot all his scenes during STM, some footage was intended for S2. However when WB decided to proceed with S2 the Salkinds weren't going to pay Brando an additional amount for appearing in the 'extra' film.
Under most contracts, the studio is required to pay the actor if he/she appears in a film regardless of when the footage was shot (eg: the actors who played Johnny and Kreese in Karate Kid II were paid even though they filmed their scenes during KKI. This agreement was upheld. Brando demanded a substantial sum. The Salkinds refused. Jor-El was cut from S2.
Dammit!!! I can't see it . . . does anyone know if this footage will be shown in any of the upcoming specials?
