They had a shot at the end. Very rarely do you see Tim Thomas airball a three like that.
DarthRekal
01-03-2007, 10:02 PM

This thing with Wade's wrist is starting to worry me. He's played with this injury before, but now he's been held out for a week and probably won't go against Phoenix. Sad times in the land of the Heatians, but there's a way out from the darkness ...either that or I'll make all this a blur with several trips to the package store.

Gilbert Arenas is just on fire as of late. This is the Wizards year all other teams better beware.
Mister J

His GW shot was ridiculous.
Ben Urich
01-04-2007, 09:55 AM
He was at least 5 feet beyond the arc.

01-04-2007, 10:22 AM
I am just glad I was at the game last night when he made that shot the place went crazy and all GA did as soon as the shot left his hand was turn around and walk off the court even before it went in.
DarthRekal
01-04-2007, 10:40 AM
GA is my boy! im glad he's doing well!:woot:

The one thing the Wizards are missing is a Center if they could get a good Center they would rule the east.

Pffft. Calvin Booth is the truth!! :cmad:
:woot:

Not sure, Rip scored a lot of points for shizzle.
DarthRekal
01-04-2007, 10:16 PM
i love rips shot man thats pretty
Pistons 92, Hornets 68
Pistons scoring
Tayshaun: 15 pts, 10 reb
Rasheed: 2 pts (:cmad:), 10 reb
Nazr: 2 pts, 3 reb :cmad:
Rip: 27 pts, 5 reb, 5 ast ()
Flip Murray: 7 pts, 5 ast (Not bad)
Blalock: 2 pts, 2 ast
Maxiell: 12 pts, 4 reb ()
McDyess: 10 pts, 6 reb (Not bad)
Delfino: 13 pts, 5 reb ()
Dupree: 2 pts, 2 reb
The bench definitely stepped up tonight. If the Pistons can do that (along with Rasheed and Nazr turning it up a notch or two), they'll be alright without Chauncey.

Mavericks won again tonight against the Pacers. Tomorrow night will be a tough test as they're facing the Spurs in San Antonio. If they can win tomorrow and win on Sunday I'll be very satisfied and proud of that run against three very tough teams.
Both of which they'll see in the playoffs I'm sure. The Jazz is definitely another one that will be a dogfight.
DarthRekal
01-04-2007, 10:22 PM

That was a pretty remarkable jam by Mamba. :o
And God, do the Kings have an identity crisis: not only do they have old (Miller, Bibby, Artest) vs new (Martin, Salmons, etc), but the lettering on their uniform doesn't match their logo. At all. :down:cmad:

Wait a minute, I thought complaining about the refs was a no no? :cwink:
Now you know how I feel when Bavetta, Javie, and Salvatore screwed the Mavs out of the championship. Now do you see what I've been talking about Rekal? :woot:
Oh well, it's just a regular season game. In the playoffs the Lakers would win in a seven game series against Sacramento.

Certainly Penny vies for that honor as well. This guy once wanted out of Orlando because he felt people "didn't love him enough".:whatever:

Yeah, Penny was an ass, too. I guess his behavior kinda gets overlooked because of the way Shaq left us.
You're right, though. The way Penny started his career, he could have been a Hall of Fame contender. He had such promise. :csad:
Oh, and you'll definitely want to watch SportsCenter now; Trevor Ariza just posterized Emeka Okafor with a tomahawk slam. :wow:

Bull**** runs rampant in New Jersey. With 7 seconds remaing, down by three, Kirk Hinrich drives the lane, goes for lay up, gets fouled hard in the face, no foul called bull**** number one, and then Ben Wallace tips in the basketball as it goes off the rim and is called for basket interference bull**** number 2. Both calls were maybe some of the worst I have ever seen in my life. However what I found funny was that the PA annoucer for the Nets actually had to tell the crowd to get up and cheer the Nets during that possession. "11.1 seconds to, everyone who wants to see the Nets win GET UP AND CHEER!" Sad.

God, the Magic have to do that all the time. Orlando fans are too polite. I shouted "RAPE!" whenever Kobe shot a free throw and people were staring at me, and I'm just thinking, "You are at a basketball game. It is your duty as fans to unmercifully boo the opposing team, sometimes with vulgarity and crassness."
The only time Magic fans make any noise is when they show the Noise-O-Meter on the JumboTron. :csad:
Oh, and no matter how badly the Magic are playing, all the fans' concerns can be assuaged with a damn T-shirt launch.
"Oh, we may be down 35 to the Washington ****ing Nationals, but look, I have a new T-shirt! Yay!"
:whatever:
It's bull**** like that that's gonna cost this town the team someday.

I'm guessing the shot clock was winding down.
Ben Urich
01-05-2007, 10:34 PM
End of the first half.
Trevor Ariza inbounded the ball from other baseline. He had to throw over 7'1" Jake Voskuhl, whom Bernie Bickerstaff put in to disrupt Ariza's pass. That left Sean May to cover Howard, who caught, squared, and shot the ball just before the buzzer.
A few minutes before that, he hit a 15-footer. Shot clock wasn't winding down, either. He just got the ball and shot it.
Mister J
01-05-2007, 10:43 PM
Howard's already hell on the glass and a decent defender/shot blocker. Once he learns the nuances on how to pick up his offensive game, it's going to be ugly.
Phoenix's utter refusal to play defense kept Miami around in the first half. Unfortunately, things started to catch up to them toward the end of the second quarter. They pretty much have to play lights out to stay in this thing.

Howard's already hell on the glass and a decent defender/shot blocker. Once he learns the nuances on how to pick up his offensive game, it's going to be ugly.
It's scary because he doesn't have any offensive moves; he gets his points on tip-ins, alley-oops, and dunks. If he can develop post moves and a go-to shot, he's going to be unstoppable.
He also has to learn to protect the ball; he turns the ball over because smaller defenders swat at him on double teams. He has to keep the ball above his head or he's going to get stripped too frequently.
Phoenix's utter refusal to play defense kept Miami around in the first half. Unfortunately, things started to catch up to them toward the end of the second quarter. They pretty much have to play lights out to stay in this thing.
Who's Miami's go-to guy now? Jason Kapono? Alonzo Mourning? J-Dub?
Mister J
01-05-2007, 10:58 PM
Who's Miami's go-to guy now? Jason Kapono? Alonzo Mourning? J-Dub?
Mourning's good for the first half; with the number of minutes he's logging and his age/personal issues, it's unfair to ask him for much more. Kapono's too inconsistent (though I really like his shooting when he's on) and Williams' knee tendinitis has rendered him to the point where he can't play back-to-back games. We're pretty screwed right now.

Gordan Giricek was traded to the Jazz for DeShawn Stevenson.DeShawn Stevenson left this past offseason as a free agent.

"We're a very average team right now," O'Neal told the Indianapolis Star. "We're going to be average until we decide as players that we want to win and do the right things we're supposed to do to win. If we don't do it, we're going to mingle around .500, get in the playoffs and then be out."
"If I can't take this team to another level, I truthfully believe we should go our separate ways at the end of the season," said O'Neal, according to the Indianapolis Star. "I'm saying in general, the bottom line is you play to win. If we don't have a system set to win a championship, if we don't have the crew to win a championship, then what are we doing?
"I'm getting to the point, I'm in my 11th year, I don't want to play 82 games and then exit to watch somebody else pop champagne. ... I'm tired of that. I want to compete for a championship. If we can't do it, that's a whole [different] story."

If they kept it together, Reggie woulda had his ring! :cmad::csad:

Yeah, the Magic are idiots. We've "honored" several of our better players - Nick Anderson, Dennis Scott, Jeff Turner, Scott Skiles, etc. - with banners hung in the concourse of the arena.
Wow. :whatever:
Despite repeated petitions and lobbying, the Magic refuse to retire jersey numbers.

Shaq shouldn't get his jersey number retired. Yes, we reached the finals with him, but the total disrespect he showed the organization should negate that.
If anything, we should retire Nick Anderson's #25. Anderson was our first draft pick and the last player from that original team to leave.
After we traded him (:csad:) we turned right around and gave Chris Gatling that number. I was pissed. :cmad:

I can understand the Lakers retiring his number because they won something with him. Shaq got us one conference title. One. And then he left us dead in the water.
We should absolutely not reward that behavior. :down

Just curious, outside of being pissed that it happened at all, what was your take on how all that went down (why it happened, whose fault, etc)? I imagine you have more insight to the particulars there than I do.

Yeah, 'zo should get his uniform number retired. He's sure earned it.
And now he's the Heat's all-time leading rebounder, eclipsing the mark previously held by Rony Seikaly, one of my favorite Magic players.

to be honest i blame EVERYONE... but mostly the passing of CHICK HEARN
he was more than an announcer people would come to him for advice and he kept this FAMILY together..he woulda sat shaq and kobe down and told them to shut up and play....
but beyond that..... i aint mad at shaq for WANTING more money...its he went about it wrong...dont call out the owner in public..bad form:cmad:
also EARN it.. he had just come off a disappointing season(we didnt win it all) and look at how dominating he can be when he puts his mind to it..the first season with miami and his MVP season in 2000 dude is a monster when he WANTS to be....also i dont think he shoulda been a big baby about it....he shoulda known KOBE's time was gonna come...he was getting more and more unstoppable (shaq had everything to do with that but if you're gonna say it HIS team then mean it dont speak with a forked tongue).... also dont ask for a trade and pout ... thats how and why i think he disrespected the LAKERS... how he disrespected us fans is another story.. i hate the fact he couldnt put his ego aside and just shut up... also he demanded a trade but BLOCKED all the trades we setup... he ONLY gave into miami....also he did make disparaging(sp) remarks about LA fans how we're fake and kept sayin miami is the REAL city ...
if shaq shutsup and plays he gets his money and still would be the man here..the fans loved him..
next was kobe... also i wish he woulda shut up and played too..he shoulda realized shaq was getting old and he would EVENTUALLy have to defer.. all he had to do was be patient...i could understand his ballhoggedness cause he was young... but dont be stupid about it..oh god i hate the fact he called out shaq after the denver incident..i dont think i still trust his comradery after that... but ultimatley i think he was pretty sneaky about forcing shaqs trade... also he held us hostage saying he was gonna leave .. and why did he only sign AFTER shaq was traded...shoulda signed before to show us good faith... gah!:cmad:
then theres phil... i blame him for being absent..its in his nature to let things sort themselves out..but this is the one time he should have intervened.. he is the coach.... he had to take the reigns and shut these dudes up
then we come to jerry buss.... dude caught feelings too... but ultimatly didnt HAVE to trade shaq.... he offerd shaq the same deal he got in miami(dont get me started on that too) but shaq turned him down..sure it would piss me off but go back to the table and find out why... and when shaq asks for a trade ..SO WHAT? ask why and see if you can quel the situation... plsu DONT TRADE HIM he still had one more year... force him to play and if kobe leaves oh well then its kobe's fault and we still have cap room it woulda been easier to rebuild....
i prolly left out something but thats how it went down...after all was said and done.. it was just meant to happen...
right after we came off our most diappointing loss in the finals... kobe being a free agent ... phil's contract being up ..and one of shaq's least dominating - injury riddled season(but it was still a good year for any center trust that).... just the perfect storm that knock out our dynasty:csad:

That's about how I had it sized up. Plenty of blame to go around. I think if Jerry West was still with the organization at time, it doesn't go down like that. From an objective standpoint, it shouldn't have happened like that. Too much was accomplished there to have it all go to hell.
In other news, Miami tips off against Portland in under 30 minutes and I have no clue if Wade, Posey or Walker is playing.

'Desperately' being the operative word.
I don't see how an injury to be 'day-to-day' and keep someone out for over a week. I understand being cautious, but it seems to be worst than what they let on. As long as he comes back healthy (hopefully soon), I'm happy. He did take off the brace and practice yesterday, but all indications were that his availability would depend on if his wrist was sore today. Rothstein and Riley aren't returning my calls. :cmad:
