I hope he's all healed up and that's over with.

Of course, there's still probably no Posey or Walker, but it's about time some good news came through.

Wade with 32 in 38 minutes back from injury. Jason Kapono brought his game and they didn't fold in the second half; they actually closed out strong.
Yeah, Portland sucks, but anything to end a 5-game losing streak is good.

Lakers/Mavs looks like it has a good finish coming to it.

Hmm, close game in LA? Interesting. I checked the Mavericks website and the game started at 8:30 and now it's 11:38. What have they been doing for all this time? Seems like the game is going pretty slowly.

If Dallas loses the game then it'll be okay, as they beat the Spurs in San Antonio and that was the game I wanted them to win the most.

I didnt get a chance to watch the first half but the last min of the game the refs must have forgot about the whistle! The 2pt, I mean the 3pt shot from Shasha! I mean how can the ref missed that! Its not like his view was obstructed! And that no call from Smush block on Terry, which clearly was a foul! Nevertheless it was exciting game! To a point where I promise myself to finally go to a laker home game, instead of being cheap by getting clipper home games when they face the Lakers:o

Ben Urich

sometimes that the only way to get tickets is to go to the clippers lakers game so i dont blame you...

but i'll give you the sasha three... but they did the XMo(which i love) after the smush block and even stu(who will call it like it is) said it was a clean block...

The LA Clippers are still listening to offers on Corey Maggette. Maggette himself told reporters last week he expected to be traded before the deadline, and according to Corey the sooner the better. The leading candidate to land him looks like Miami, with a deal involving James Posey, Dorrell Wright and a future 1st rumored to be on the table. The Denver Nuggets are supposedly very interested in landing Corey but may not be willing to move the right players to get a deal done, but there is real interest. The Spurs have supposedly inquired which is somewhat surprising considering Greg Popovich’s loyalty to his players, and complexity of the Spurs system for a new player, but the depth of the west may be the motivating factor in considering a swap for Corey, but the cost may also remove San Antonio. Sources close to the Clippers say there is no urgency in finding a deal, they will wait for their deal, and Corey has been a good solider in this process.

I just want this trade to be done with so the team can move on and play good b-ball!

Posey, Wright and a #1 is way too much for Maggette. Last I heard, the Clips weren't interested in Posey that much and Wright was untouchable in any preliminary talks about Iverson. Why would they deal him for Maggette? I'd pass on that in a minute.

I do think something will happen with Maggette though. he wants out and his name is popping up everywhere (Orlando, Utah, San Antonio).

Just randomly: The Artest trade talk has died down considerably and apparantly Macy Webber wants a buyout.

Ben Urich

I'd like to have Corey back in Orlando, but he's basically an older Trevor Ariza. :o

Maggette if starting would give 20pt a game! If Riley in the bench I think we will finally see what Maggette can really do! The guy just gets the most out of his players! With Wright, yes he's going to be good but how long does Shaq have left? One more year? With Maggette you get that 2nd option Miami been looking for! The heat will definetly be the favs to win the east easily! For the clips you get Posey who's a 3pt shooter, which the clips despertely need right now, and he's a good defender! Wright who can be our future SF! and another number 1 pick which would give us 3 first round picks next year???!!! In a already deep draft! Well, right now, Dwight Howard's our best 3-point shooter. :woot:
Travis Diener has range (.417 from 3 this season), but I imagine you guys don't have much need for another point guard.
Keith Bogans is the next best on the team, shooting .387 from downtown so far. He's not much of an offensive weapon, but does provide solid defense.

2006-07 Power Rankings: Week 10
RANK (LAST WK) TEAM REC. COMMENT
1 (1) Mavericks 27-8 When you've stamped yourselves as the NBA's clear-cut No. 1, as Mavs have, you have to have at least two All-Stars. Howard must go to Vegas with Dirk, end of story.
2 (2) Suns 25-8 Dropping to 0-2 against Dallas didn't exactly ruin them. Suns are 6-0 since and 24-3 overall since their 1-5 start, with only one loss to a team outside our top eight.
3 (4) Jazz 24-10 Jazz are just 12-9 since their 12-1 start, true, but they still have too many quality victories -- in the face of a tougher sked than most -- to lose their top-five standing.
4 (9) Lakers 23-11 Credit where credit is due: Lakers haven't had Lamar for either of their meetings with Mavs and still matched up with the team in the top spot as well as anyone we've seen.
5 (5) Rockets 21-13 Rockets were 6-10 minus Yao last season. But they're 5-3 this time, with T-Mac scoring 31 or more for five straight and Mutombo at 13.8 rpg in the same span.
6 (13) Cavaliers 21-12 Unlike their previous win over SA, Cavs are building on beating Spurs at home. Can't do much better than a 7-1 surge leading into that dreaded seven-game trip.
7 (3) Spurs 24-11 Swept by Cavs, shredded by Nowitzki, 0-2 at home against Dallas and now Parker has a bad hip? Maybe this little rankings tumble is the spark creaky Spurs need.
8 (6) Wizards 19-14 The shocker is not that Wiz finally lost in Toronto after a 10-2 surge. The shocker is that Gil, averaging 46.4 ppg in those gaudy gold jerseys, had only 33.
9 (7) Bulls 20-14 No letup from Bulls against Chauncey-less Pistons, but two bad fourth quarters -- against Suns, then Nets -- cost Chicago what could have been a 3-0 week.
10 (8) Pistons 19-12 Pistons can poke fun at Big Ben for Chicago's headband rules all they want, but they look a bit naked themselves without Billups in the midst of a 1-4 rut.
11 (17) Timberwolves 17-15 Foye is finally getting regular burn and Blount is hotter than ever. All of which means KG is getting some help, which might explain why Wolves have won seven of nine.
12 (10) Pacers 18-16 The easiest way to diffuse Jermaine's frustration? If Pacers can just get to a mere 93 points, they're 17-4. When they don't, unfortunately, Pacers are 1-12.
13 (15) Magic 21-14 With four straight home wins over sub-.500 stragglers since their four-game skid, Magic are back atop their division and tied for the East lead in wins at 21.
14 (12) Warriors 18-18 With the production he's getting from Barnes, Biedrins and now Azubuike, maybe Nellie should sit a few more regulars and ask Mully to sign more no-names.
15 (17) Bucks 16-17 Ugh. Missing time with a knee injury, after all the other injuries in Milwaukee this season, is not how we wanted to see our man Redd prove how valuable he is.
16 (19) Raptors 15-19 Two weeks ago, we hinted at the idea that Raps are a legit contender for the division title. After seeing how Bosh looks post-injury, we are full-fledged believers.
17 (14) Nuggets 16-15 With Melo's return still two weeks away, Iverson is only racking up losses (five in a row) and techs. He's up to seven Ts, just two behind Sheed's league-high nine.
18 (18) Kings 14-17 Overtime hasn't been their time, obviously. Kings are three games under .500 and 0-3 in OT games after losing their last two at home that way (Lakers and Blazers).
19 (24) Knicks 15-21 Give it up to Isiah's Knicks . . . for once. They're 10-10 since a 5-11 start and just posted wins at Portland and Seattle after five straight double-digit road losses.
20 (20) Heat 14-19 Wade returns and, just like that, Riley-less Heat no longer look like an expansion team. Including the game he left early, Heat are 0-6 without Wade, 14-13 with him.
21 (16) Clippers 15-19 Remember when we said that nothing less than 50 wins would do? With their less-than-sterling road record of 3-13, Clips now need a 35-11 finish to get there.
22 (23) Nets 14-19 Nets' 3-1 rebound is just a start. They're still at -6, second worst in East plus/minus behind Charlotte, when adding up their road wins (four) and home losses (10).
23 (21) Trail Blazers 14-21 Looks like we're stuck making our usual reach, measuring Blazers and Sonics against each other and pretending that their race for regional supremacy carries meaning.
24 (22) SuperSonics 13-23 In November, Ray Allen shot 31.5 percent on 3-pointers. In December, 34.2 percent. First four games with the old ball? Allen is 14-for-29, good for 48.3 percent.
25 (27) Celtics 12-21 Pierce returning later rather than sooner sounds like Celts' best option. Why not let Raps, Nets and Knicks ''fight'' for the Atlantic crown and play for a top-three pick?
26 (25) Bobcats 9-23 The rookie roller-coaster continues for Morrison. Stache is suddenly playing catch-up to Matt Carroll, who, without warning, has averaged 21.8 ppg in his last four.
27 (29) 76ers 9-24 So much for a spell of calm after a year (or is that years?) on Iverson Trade Alert. Sixers can expect When Will Larry Replace Mo? questions every day now.
28 (26) Hornets 12-21 Anyone remember that 8-3 start? Injury-ravaged Hornets are 4-18 since . . . and a helpless 1-6 since Paul rolled an ankle, joining Peja and D-West in the sick bay.
29 (30) Hawks 10-21 On top of Josh's absence and a 2-12 skid overall, Joe's calf and toe have to be hurting, since he's been held to 15 points or fewer in four of his last six games.
30 (28) Grizzlies 8-27 Grizz are certainly more offensive under Barone -- Mike Miller especially -- but didn't suffer their 27th loss last season until March 6. It's only Jan. 8, remember.

Lakers kick it up a notch

http://espn-ak.starwave.com/i/columnists/neel_eric_30.jpg
By Eric Neel
ESPN The Magazine

LOS ANGELES -- For three weeks and 13 games they've looked invincible. Ridiculously deep. Stupid flexible. Well-coached. Disciplined. And all kinds of confident. For three weeks and 13 games, each Dallas Mavericks (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/clubhouse?team=dal) tip-off felt like a formality, like you weren't wondering if, but how, they'd carve another notch.

Then Sunday night the Lakers up and beat 'em, 101-98, like it wasn't nothing but a thing, like the Mavs were ripe for the taking all along.
How'd they pull it off? What's the secret recipe every other club in the league will be looking to copy?
Easy. All you need is...
• 1 cup of out-of-nowhere step-up: The joke around the Lakers' locker room is that Sasha Vujacic (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?statsId=3844) isn't a "7:30 Shooter" -- money in practice, but tight come game time (he came into the game shooting just 37.4 percent from the field and 31.0 percent from 3).
But when the Mavericks' defenders started pinching Kobe Bryant (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?statsId=3118) in the fourth quarter, daring the supporting cast to beat them, Sasha took the dare and took his locker-room stock up a notch, hitting three 3-pointers (4-of-5 overall), the last of which gave the Lakers a 100-98 lead.
"He can shoot. We know he can shoot," Luke Walton (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?statsId=3735) said afterward. "It's just a matter of confidence."
It's hard to say whether Sasha was truly feeling confident, but mark this down: If you want to mix up a batch of streak-busting you better have one guy, one guy the other club never thought they'd have to think about, who, like a man of faith, is willing to act as if he belonged in the moment and the moment belonged to him.
• 1/2 cup of old-time share-the-ball ball: Friday night, Nuggets coach George Karl called Los Angeles the best passing team in the league. Sunday night they made him look like a prophet, racking up 26 assists (to the Mavericks' 16).
And it wasn't just the number, it was the way they reached it: interior passes, quick touch passes, skips from Kobe to an open Luke, ball rotations from corner to top to corner. The ball was constantly moving. They made Dallas work, start to finish, and got open looks that resulted in 54.9 percent field-goal shooting.
• 2/3 cup of the guy who's really, truly, no joke starting to believe: The Lakers miss Lamar Odom (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?statsId=3327) right now, no doubt. They would like to have Kwame Brown (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?statsId=3511) healthy, too, most definitely. But it ain't all bad being thin in the first half of the season. Because when you're thin, if you're lucky, that hoop-smart, unselfish, all-purpose glue guy you've got becomes, by necessity and by the grace of his own blooming confidence, a flat-out stalwart.
Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Luke Walton, a 3-shooting, ballhandling, crazy reverse-180 up-and-over lay-upping, man in full (21 points, 6 assists, 3 rebounds).
"It has to be done if we want to win," he said afterward. "You don't have time to think about it. You do whatever it takes, whether it's passing, scoring, rebounding. You get in there."
Boom. There it is. Mark this down: when Odom comes back this is a three-headed team, much more dangerous than when he left hurt.
• 1 cup of superstar: You have to have Kobe being Kobe, and the Lakers did. But not until the fourth quarter, when he went on a classic spree, hitting four of five shots to begin the fourth quarter and pulled the Lakers back within striking distance. It was like watching Ali in Zaire, waiting and waiting and waiting, and then finally letting go a flurry.
• 1/2 cup of clang: The Mavs weren't the Mavs in this one, and that was bound to happen some night. They got double figures out of five guys, like they always do, but they managed just 42 percent from the field. Credit the Lakers' defense, particularly Vujacic, who was active around the perimeter, and Ronny Turiaf (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?statsId=3963), who was a bulldog down low, though he was often working a mismatch. But credit (or blame) the Mavs themselves, too, who too often settled for jump shots when they should have taken the ball inside.
• A pinch of defining-moment smack-down defense: Lakers up 100-98 with 16 seconds to go. Jason Terry (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?statsId=3333) is driving the lane for a tying layup. The Lakers' bigs don't want to leave Dirk Nowitzki (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?statsId=3252). It's a done deal. And then, in a flash, it isn't, thanks to Smush Parker (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?statsId=3662), who witnesses will tell you was actually wearing a purple-and-gold cape when he came flying in and palm-blocked the shot as it left Terry's hand.
Not only a big block for the box score, but a huge block for the absolute pandemonium it inspired in the Staples Center crowd. The Mavs were beaten in part Sunday because they played a tough team holding serve on what has become a very tough home court, a flat-out nasty place to play.
• A dash of hesitation, a hint of uncertainty: The Mavericks are, rightfully, a very cool bunch.
"They're very confident about how they want to play right now," Phil Jackson said during pregame.
But late, when this thing was tight, their flowing, cutting, five-headed hydra offense stalled out. Guys were standing, watching, waiting for Nowitzki to do some kind of magic. That ain't going to work every night. And it ain't going to work in the playoffs.
The guy they most need to come alive in these moments is Josh Howard (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?statsId=3732). The kid is near unstoppable when he wants to be (limited only by an inconsistent J), capable of getting into space against any style or size defender you want to throw at him. But he passed on open shots at crunch time Sunday night. He deferred. Too much. This is Nowitzki's team, for sure, but the Mavs will be well-served by letting a game or three rest squarely on young Josh's shoulders, just to get him knowing, without a dash of hesitation or a hint of uncertainty, that he can't be denied.
• And finally, a smidge of lunacy: The Lakers had fallen behind in the third quarter, and had gotten back into the game thanks to the always impressive, but ultimately very predictable, burst from Kobe. To move from getting close to getting over, though, they needed some extra something, some little bit of crazy. And sure enough, on the night he won his 900th game as a head coach in the NBA, Jackson delivered just that, going with a game-in-the-balance lineup of Vujacic, Walton, Parker, Turiaf and Bryant. They were too small to board and too weird to gel, and they were perfect, the finishing touch, the secret ingredient.
No sweat, right?
Teams will figure it out. The next streak won't be more than 10 or 12 games, tops.

The Lakers let a team get a big lead and wait till like there's 7 or 6 minutes left to play which results in their usual fourth quarter run. The fact that the Grizzlies are beating them and Dallas didn't makes me scratch my head.

thats cause Lakers own Dallas Sunrise... 2-12 at staples??? thats pretty much ownage..... some teams just have other teams numbers..ours seems to be charlotte ...

Carnage how many times do i have to tell you guys..ODOM is a CRUCIAL part of the triangle..the DEFENSE flows through him... he creates sooo many mismatches..... and he is the MAIN facilitator of the offense... in a regular set offense you would miss the POINT guard most..in the triangle its Lamar....

3 points about the Lakers teams(regardless who is on the team)

1. Everyone Rises to another Level when we are in their house..

2. We play down to bad teams as if we can mail in the performance..

3.We suck at free throws..

That holds true through the ages... except for the 71-72 lakers.

Must be the city  :cmad:

Look I am one of the biggest Jordan fans there is butt.....

Without Pippen, & Jackson there would not have been that many Championships. Also without Rodman they would not have gone 72-10 that one season.

With that said, however. If Pippen got injured. You didn't see them losing constantly. I think that Odom getting hurt exposes a weakness in the Lakers, & that is depth. You gotta have role players that can step in, & maintain. The Lakers obviously don't have that.

Either way it's an awesome win and I'm glad the Stackhouse ejection didn't cause them to crumble.

The Lakers obviously don't have that.
i disagree we have a very DEEP team many people are stepping up... the differnce between us and the bulls..is youth... we are very young.. look at playoff experience...90% of our guys last year was their first everyone else has never been..sept for aaron mckie

but this team is really young and lacks killer instinct ..they think they can mail wins in and sit on leads.....

the bulls were infamous for smashing weaker teams..and that has a lot to do with experience

Damn. Stephon Marbury better pick up the pace on offense. When the season started, he was only the second player to hold career averages of 20 points and 8 assists in a game. With this season's stats factored in, his scoring has dipped to 19.9.

Miami closed out well tonight. It helped that Seattle is fairly deficient on defense (Miami has no business shooting 53% or having 6 players in double figures with the guys who were available tonight ...Michael Doleac had 10 points for Zeus' sake). Even with all that, they only won by 4. I hope this whole 'body fat' nonsense has run it's course and Posey and Walker will be suited up come Friday. The defense needs it ...from Posey at least.

Next game for Dallas is against the Pacers again on Friday. Should be an interesting game especially after Jermaine O'Neal ripped into the team, the front offices, and so forth.

I expect a very close game with both teams.

Either way I am glad Dallas is winning and that critics and opposing fans are taking them seriously.

While getting my haircut at the barbershop my barber mentioned that Dallas no one to fear except the Suns. The Suns? Barring any kind of injury to the Lakers, Spurs, Dallas, or the Jazz the Suns will have the same results now as they've had recently in terms of playoff contention.

I don't care how great Nash is playing. I don't care how great or how tough Amare is playing. Until they play defense and not fold under a half-court offense/defense they'll never get near a championship.

Arenas is pretty scary. If he gets it going offensively, there's not a lot that be done about it. What heightens the whole thing is if his supporting cast steps up when teams play him tighter and try to make it tough for him to get his shot. Antonio Daniels and Deshaun Stevenson combined for 28. (What the hell?) Butler and Jamison are All-Star caliber players. There's a lot of firepower there. Not much in the way of stopping somebody, but plenty of firepower. Washington has some real quality wins this season.

TEAM (LAST WK) REC. BREAKDOWN
1 Dallas (1) 29-8 The Mavs are 21-3 this season when Josh Howard scores at least 15 points, as he has for the last 16 straight games.
2 Phoenix (2) 26-8 With Yao likely shelved until after the All-Star Game, could Amare get the starting nod? His 17.6 ppg ranks second behind Yao among all West centers.
3 Utah (3) 24-11 Jazz is 4-0 at home and 7-5 on the road in back-to-back sets. Utah plays every Friday and Saturday the rest of this month -- two at home, four roadies.
4 San Antonio (4) 26-11 The Spurs and Boston are the only teams with a better record on the road than at home. San Antonio welcomes the Wizards and Lakers this week.
5 Houston (9) 23-13 Raise your hand if you really believed the Rockets would go 7-2 since Yao went down … Anybody?

TEAM (LAST WK) REC. BREAKDOWN
6 Cleveland (10) 22-12 The best team in the East is about to test its mettle out West, with the next six at the Suns, Clips, Sonics, Blazers, Nuggets and Warriors.
7 Washington (5) 20-14 The Wizards have scored 100-plus in 18 straight games, the longest such streak for the franchise since the 1988-89 Bullets accomplished the feat for 26 consecutive games.
8 L.A. Lakers (8) 23-13 I'll admit, Lakers have played well despite the loss of Odom, Mihm and Kwame. We'll see just how good they really are with games vs. Magic, Heat, Spurs and Mavs this week.
9 Orlando (11) 22-14 Last summer, we watched Dwight Howard get up. The rest of the league's seeing it now, most recently the Warriors, on whom Howard grabbed 25 boards Wednesday.
10 Chicago (7) 20-16 Beating the Pistons is nice. When that's your only win in five tries, not so nice.
11 Detroit (6) 20-13 They're using the word "chemistry" in Motown … and I don't mean at the North American International Auto Show.
12 Minnesota (13) 17-16 Maybe the Wolves thought they had another five minutes in Wednesday's loss to the Clippers? After all, they'd gont 53 in each of the previous three -- all wins.
13 Indiana (12) 20-16 Finally, the Pacers extended a win streak to three games -- the first time this season. They'll be hard pressed to hit four; the Mavs come to town Friday.
14 Denver (14) 17-16 The Carmelo countdown continues. In Wednesday's loss to the Spurs, A.I., Boykins and J.R. Smith scored 32 of the team's 34 second-half points.
15 L.A. Clippers (17) 17-19 The Clips have to consider the recently-concluded road trip a step in the right direction. After all, they collected three of their five road wins this season on the trip to finish 3-3.
16 Golden State (16) 18-19 The Warriors might be in a funk right now, but fact is that they haven't racked up 18 wins this early since the 1993-94 season, when the team started 18-14.
17 Miami (20) 15-19 The Heat has blocked 81 shots over the last dozen games (6.75 bpg). 'Zo has accounted for 38 of those, recording at least one swat in each game during that time.
18 Toronto (21) 16-20 The Raps wrap up a three game road trip tomorrow in Boston. The team has started the previous two ice-cold, shooting 0-9 to open at the Nets and 1-15 last night at Bucks.
19 Milwaukee (15) 16-19 No Redd. No Mo. No Charlie V. Who's left? Only Bogut and Bell have played in every game this season for the Bucks.
20 Sacramento (18) 14-18 Nine of the next 12 are on the road, where the Kings are 4-8 this season.
21 Portland (19) 14-23 The Blazers have tied or outscored their opponents in the first quarter of eight of the last nine games. That's not translating to wins, though, as the team is 2-7 over the span.
22 New Jersey (22) 15-19 Mikki Moore has started the last seven games for the Nets, equaling the number of starts he got in the 327 games prior in his career.
23 New York (25) 16-21 The Knicks have won five straight at Madison Square Garden, where they play four of their next five.
24 Charlotte (28) 10-23 Over the last five, Matt Carroll's averaging 20.8 ppg on 48.4 percent shooting from the floor and 59.4 percent from behind the arc.
25 Memphis (24) 9-27 Only two teams are winless in their divison: One is Memphis …
26 Seattle (23) 13-25 … the other is Seattle.
27 NO/Okla City (27) 13-22 The Hornets really do have some luck, huh? Five ribs? Really? At some point, you almost have to shrug your shoulders and laugh it off.
28 Boston (26) 12-22 Already banged up, the Cs could be without Brian Scalabrine and Tony Allen after both injured a knee in Wednesday's loss to Indy.
29 Atlanta (30) 10-23 Good news: the Hawks halted their skid at eight. Bad news: they promptly started another. The team's lost two straight and hosts Detroit Friday.
30 Philadelphia (29) 9-26 The Sixers have cleaned house -- reportedly agreeing to a buyout with C-Webb -- but don't expect them to move out of the basement any time soon.

Surprisingly he went off for 25 actual the Lakers when he was with Orlando.:ninja:

Macy's Shopping List
Miami
Detroit
Dallas
San Antonio
L.A. Lakers

San Antonio wants to get younger and faster and he won't get the PT that he wants in Dallas, so I think both of those are out. He's from Detroit and I've read about interest on their part. It doesn't seem to be a bad fit. Webber's skill set naturally lends itself to the triangle offense in LA, though I don't know if there'd be any bumps in him picking up the complicated scheme. The Heatians could certainly use some offensive punch and another skilled player whose passing can facilitate the offense, but Macy's knees are suspect. Miami's going to want him to be active in providing post defense as Shaq makes his way back. I don't know if he can handle the strain in his present physical condition .

Macy at 20M+ is ridiculous, but Macy at the veterans' minimum is highly intriguing.
Shaquille O'Neal practiced Thursday for the first time since tearing cartilage in his left knee Nov. 12, and forwards Antoine Walker and James Posey also rejoined the Miami Heat.

Walker and Posey will be available for Friday night's game at Golden State, but O'Neal will not play, the team said.

You know the All-Star voting is just a popularity contest for the starting 5. There's no way Howard doesn't get picked for the squad.

I know that he'll make it, but it's stupid that people would vote in a guy who's only played in four games. That's ridiculous.
I don't think it's entirely the voters' fault, though. The league encourages voters to choose their favorite players. That's the WRONG mentality to use. It's an All-Star game, so the players selected should be the ones having the best seasons, not necessarily the players who have name recognition.
Take Caron Butler. He's having a career season with the Wizards and is a huge part of their success. However, he doesn't even register in the top 10 of players at his position in the East; he's behind the likes of Hedo Turkoglu, Andre Iguodala, and Emeka Okafor. That's total bull****. :down

EDIT: Oh, and Shane Battier has almost double the votes of Shawn Marion. I attribute this anomaly to the Chinese wanting to support Yao and his teammates, but Goddamn, that is all kinds of wrong. :down

Mister J
01-11-2007, 08:54 PM
I can cut the All-Star voting process a little slack because it's the league trying to cater to its fans and let them see who they want, but I'm glad that coaches get to fill out the roster. All-Star nods are a career highlight and too important to be totally subject to popularity. Most of the time, it turns out OK.

The Houston thing is crazy. McGrady's 2nd in guard voting with Iverson closing in fast. Granted, I have my qualms with his overall game, but Nash not starting is insane. Not as insane as the Battier situation, but still insane.

Earl can opt out after this year and I guess Denver figured he either bolt or ask for tons of $$$. I hear they wanted to wait awhile to pull the trigger on that deal (keep Earl around until Stop Snitchin' gets back), but the Bucks' injury exception for Bobby Simmons runs out on Friday. They needed that to stick in order to fit Boykins' contract in. Additionally, the Nuggets are looking for players who can fit in with AI, Melo and Smith being the primary form of offense. Blake goes well with the type of complementary scheme they're trying to set up when they have their full complement of players.

J is shaq playing monday?

However, I still hear people *not saying anyone here* talk like he is that marquee player.

I don't know anyone that has claimed him to be a Marquee player. Alot of people have claimed him to be a good sixth man, but marquee. I don't think so.

The Suns are no defensive juggernaut and probably never will be, but they're getting better whether you wish to believe it or not. They showed up in Thursday morning's stats placed right between No. 11 Dallas and No. 13 San Antonio in opponent field-goal percentage and promptly lived up to that standard by aggressively swarming Zydrunas Ilgauskas and even Drew Gooden in the post, luring Cleveland into two ill-advised modes.
1. Long shots, quick shots, jumpers of all kinds.

2. LeBron with the ball in his hands for entire possessions and only stagnation around him.

It won't last long at all. They play defense for one game and go back to being the running and gunning team they are. I can guarantee you that if they meet the Lakers in the first round they will lose.

The Suns cannot play a game where it's a half-court offense/defense for 48 minutes. And come playoff time it'll be proven again.

Meh. They're still giving up too many points. That article mentions Phoenix being between Dallas and SA in FG% defense, but those two teams are in the top 4 in scoring defense, giving up 10-11 points fewer than the Suns. That run and gun nonsense will falter in the playoffs again when the game gets slowed into a halfcourt set.

Swarming Ilgauskas and Gooden? Is that supposed to be scary? For all intents and purposes, Lebron's supporting cast sucks. I have no idea how he got them to 50 wins last year or how they have the best record in the East right now.

Up until last night, Larry Hughes had been playing well. They were on an 8-1 streak... and then they get blown out by the Suns.
In the end, it'll be the Pistons, Wizards, Magic, and Bulls at the top of the East. LeBron can only play 1-on-5 for so long.
Oh, and did you know that Drew Gooden is the mayor of New Orleans? :o

15 points on 7-of-7 shooting at the half.

EDIT: Not to be outdone, Joe Johnson has 21 on 9-of-9 shooting and it's nearly the 4th quarter.

EDIT: Steven Jackson's line so far: 22 points on 8-of-12 shooting, 0 rebounds, 0 assists.
Does he think he's Michael Redd or something?

Miami's beating the hell out of Golden State by 24 going into the 4th. I'm happy, but confused. I know it's Golden State, but still. They're actually playing defense and hitting 3's. 'Toine's got 13 in 17 minutes. Losing that 1% body fat must make all the difference in the world.

Mister J

It's not all good news in Heatians Land. There's about 1.3% chance of Shaq playing against the Lakers. He wants to get a couple of full-contact practices in before coming back. Miami usually doesn't practice after back-to-back games, which they have a few of coming up. The end of the month seems like a probable target date.

Dallas won in a close tight game against Indiana. I knew it was going to be a down to the wire game and it didn't shock me to see I was right.

Great win, with great games from both Dirk and Terry.

Anyone think Dallas will end the regular season with the best record in the West? Thus obtaining the number one seed and having home-court through the playoffs? Obviously there's still a long way to go as teams tend to turn things up after the All-Star break.
