Somewhere to discuss favorite songs, CD's and other related stuff.

I cant say that I'm a huge Johnny Cash fan, but I do like Ring of Fire and a "new" song that I just heard on the radio: "God Will Cut You Down." Supposedly it was the last song that he recorded.

I wasn't a fan before the movie, but I knew who he was. My dad likes him.
Technically though I'm still not a "fan", but I do like some of his songs.

My dad pointed out that from the point at which the movie ends they could write another movie or two to tell the rest of Johnny Cash's life.

I've been meaning to get some of Cash's work, but everything I've heard from him is awesome. His impact is still felt today. Kids in my school love the guy, not just for his music but they are also in awe of his personality and his badass persona.
MTV should be ashamed of thesmelves for giving 50 Cent that video award over Cash. Proof that the media is run by young, tasteless idiots.

I'm a huge Cash fan. Really can't pick a favorite song, since it changes so frequently. Right now, I'm a huge Cry Cry Cry fan. Home of the Blues too. I really like all of his old Sun Records/Columbia stuff. Though the American stuff was good music, it doesn't sum up Mr. Cash for me.
My "band" even covered Folsom Prison Blues for our first song.

The Essential Johnny Cash is a pretty good overview of his best stuff. You may also consider getting his live at Folsom and live at San Quentin albums. Then maybe the four American Albums. You'll get a pretty good idea of his stuff from that.

His final album's being released on July 3rd, i believe. American V.
Anyone know the tracklisting?

Thanks. I have a pretty cynical view on the media and mainstream entertainment in general today. Cash is real music. 50 Cent is lame, and I'm being nice when I say that.

two of my favorite johnny cash stories:
1. he staged a fake showdown with sammy davis jr. in the lobbey of a hotel, both drawing pistols and firing blanks at eachother...meanwhile everyone in the lobbey is freaking out thinking there's an all out gun battle between cash and davis.
2. johnny started a forest fire at a antional wildlife preserve which ended up burning 3 mountain ranges of preserve destroying the homes of over 50 endangered species. and when he was taken to court over it, he went to the court date totally doped up on drugs, and when the judge asked "don't you feel any sort of remorse at all for destroying so much nature and the homes of endangered species?" cash, high on amphetemines, just merely replied with "well, i feel pretty okay right now."

I remember when Johnny Cash died, and the next day in school like everyone was apparently really upset about it. A bunch of kids were like "teacher, can we have a moment of silence for johnny cash?" I was like WTF??? I mean a lot of people really do like his music and are actual fans, but I think there are also a lot of people who just think it's really cool to like johnny cash. It's kind of annoying.

How many of you guys were actual fans before the movie? I'm not sure if this was meant as a insulting remark, so, I apoligize. But, just because someone becomes a fan if they are introduced to his music due to the film, that does not mean that they aren't a 'true' fan. Now, if they only liked him because everyone else did, than yeah, I can see that.
But, not everyone who saw the film became a fan has jumped onto the bandwagon.;)

He is one of the greatest singers/songwriters of all time. His music meant something. He was the voice of the common man and the downtrodden, and he is still deeply missed. God bless you Johnny Cash, I hope you are with June again and at peace.
P.S Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley are my favorite singers of all time.
