John Cassaday
Steve Epting
Mike Perkins
Alex Ross
JRJR
John Buscema
Deodato Jr
McNiven
Maleev

I say jim lee
if by "best" you mean "most overrated" then yeah, that's accurate.
Jack "King" Kirby is the best of all time, but right now I really dig Steve McNiven and Ethan Van Sciver. I dunno about them being the best, but those two are my favorites currently.

2)George Perez
3)Jim Lee
I'm not familiar with the new crop of artist, but you can see what I like.

Ever since the 90s I've liked Mark Bagley's art. I grew up with his art and he's been getting better and better. At first he was a level B artist, but quickly grew to an A artist. He is my favorite artist, but there are many great artists.

Hahahahahaha!:D Get with the times? YOU should get with the times! Although Jim has evolved a bit from his Image days he's still an artist stuck in the 90's art style. The only ones of that group who have really broken out of that style and truly evolved their art past what they began in are Travis Charest and Jae Lee, IMO. Jim draws almost the same faces and expressions, although the same can be said for most artists it's more noticeable in his work.
This is a highly subjective subject as is all art. Artists I like and consider great:
Adam Hughes
Alex Ross
Cassaday
Arthur Adams
JR Jr.

depends what u mean by "artist"
"comic book" artists should have masterd layout/figure drawing/ and most importantly story telling.
as opposed to like van gough or picasso...
cause honestly comic book art ain't so great...
(animators are stronger in alot of ways wink)
I love mcniven but i hate his action...he does good comittie books...
Romitta Jr owns (the rights to) Spiderman...but drops the ball on things like Sentry
(best visual story teller in the industry tho)
Cassidy is amazin
Hitch is unbelievable
Ross is Ross
Dell Otto strikes me as the most capable of the bunch.
for me it changes day by day...
and i'm sorry ya'll but the question was who's the be mixing up "Best" with most influential...
Kirby may be christ when it comes to comic book art, but his stuff is dated...period.

Um... Olivetti does interiors all the time. I recall The Last Avengers Story, JLA: Haven, the Haven mini-series, and the Space Ghost mini-series off the top of my head. His figures are a little too gi-friggin'-normous for my tastes, but he's a good storyteller nonetheless.
Anyway, after Eternals #1, I think Romita Jr. just reclaimed his spot as my favorite comic book penciler. He's great normally, but good God Eternals was beautiful.

That may be true for Granov and Dell'Otto and all the other cover painters, but Olivetti is pretty well known for his interiors. He does both pencil and painted interiors, too. His painted interiors on Space Ghost looked every bit as good as his covers, but it was narrative. I think that qualifies him for a bit more respect in the storyteller heirarchy than being lumped in with the cover-exclusive painters.

Braithwaite's great. He and John Paul Leon were some of the first artists I saw with the dark, moody style that would later become exemplified by Michael Lark, Alex Maleev, and others.
What might I know that Braithwaites done.

He worked on one of the X things with Alex Ross before. I think it was Universe X. He penciled the interiors but Ross didn't paint over his work in there, it was inked and colored traditionally.

Did all those above individually DRAW those?
Yes they are all drawn by the person listed above. Larsen drew Savage Dragon, Cassidy drew Colossus, Noto drew Superman, Sean Wang drew the Tick, Liefield drew Cable.
I also have Hero Bear drawn by Kunkil

Unfortunately you can't judge the likes of Kirby with modern day artists. i always hate reading back issues with his art -- it seems so dated and yet he is undeniably a legend. i think the thread should be cut into two:
best modern day artist?
best "classic" artist?(whether it be silver or golden age)

Quesada's art ranges from decent to impressive for me. He can do pin-ups and covers pretty well, but I wouldn't really want him drawing a full issue of interiors. Especially not with that awful Miller-wannabe style from Daredevil: Father.

Silvestri's with Jim Lee and his other Image ilk for me. He's got pretty visuals but he just doesn't really stack up to the true greats of the industry for me. I've never been awestruck by the emotion Lee or Silvestri pack into a scene the way I have with other artists. They're great action artists, though. Silvestri's Wolverine is one of my favorite renditions of the character.

He can draw, sometimes I don't like his art, but he can definately draw. Look at his art for Origin, or some of this Daredevil stuff, and some of his earlier stuff from before he got his current position. He has done some good stuff.
Oh, and how could i forget Darwyn Cooke. He is incredible. I love his style.
Also he worked on some Batman Beyond and Bruce Timm stuff.
Bruce Timm is another great artist.
Hey, just a side note, Mike Mignola did some character designs for Batman Beyond.

I love Silvestri, except that I think he's really detoriated in his work. He basically does the prototype Image work these days, and I think he was so much better back on his X-Men run in the 80s. Some good stuff there.

Gene Colan
Neal Adams
Jim Aparo
Osamu Tezuka

Takehiko Inoue.....just to name a few of my favorites. By the way, I've never been a fan of Kirby's art. I personally believe many people love him is because of the fact that he drew the classics. I find his art quite ho-hum.

that art sucks, looks amateur compared to the comic book art of today. get with the times man, get with the times.

Learn some class man. Jim Lee draws one person over and over again, just with different hair and clothes. His art is ok, but will NEVER, EVER be remembered like Kirby's.

Not really, being as those two pictures were supposed to be mirrors of each other. I'm not a fan of Jim Lee, but that isn't really an argument.

The way I see it is, if the guy only draws one type of guy for all his characters, at least he draws that one guy very well.
