I'm pretty sure they'd never do a Venom movie without Spider-Man o_o it's just... nonesense.

Yep.... New Line didn't have the rights to Spidey but somehow did get Venom, so they were going forward with a Venom movie based on a script written by David Goyer, that completely cut Spider-Man out of the story.

The idea was that the symbiote just immediately would bond to Brock first --- the explanation for the spider on the his chest was that the symbiote was from some kind of arachnid planet, or something like that.
