Kate doesnt have blood ties, she has power ties... no New X-men has power ties spot on with avenger character nor history. Only one is X-23. Closest other would be rockslide, but thing isnt an avengers member.
and what do you mean? did you not see all the marks on the map vision showed? theres hundreds of possible Young Avengers out there...

Yeah, Vision had hundreds of potential YAs on reserve
And im not sure exactly how his reserves work per say... because Kate wasn't on there... which would allude to the fact it's blood ties or avengers connection that makes them one...

He just did nothing for me. The time travel ****ed it up for me, everything about it. His "relationship" wih cassie was just ugh, plus the Cassie/Vision aftermath he created. the YA don't even seem to consider her a traitor...
That's kind of hard to judge, since I don't recall getting any reaction from them at all to it; every appearance of the YA since has studiously avoided showing her with the group (I don't think she's shown with them at Cap's funeral, for example), probably because the other writers want to leave that up to whoever takes over writing.
Cassie's my favourite, actually. I like all of the characters except Hulkling; despite the second arc giving him a lot of time, I find him kind of dull.

Bit late to the conversation, but I'll share some opinions:
- Would I be opposed to some of the New X-Men kids joining the Young Avengers, now that book is looking like it is fading into limbo, with only X-23 moving into the relaunched X-FORCE? I'll give a wishy-washy answer: "It depends". The Young Avengers started as new heroes laying claim to the Avengers legacy, and the majority of them DO have clear ties to some of the past Avengers. All except Kate/Hawkeye II of course. None of the New X-Kids have any of that, barring a retcon or two. But if it was a good story, sure. I wouldn't mind dragging some characters out of X-Limbo. It worked for NEW WARRIORS so far (at least so long as it isn't overdone).
But would I prefer other new members? Sure. My personal "longshot Young Avenger who No One Remembers and will NEVER join the team" is Stat, formerly from the ionically powered team of Wonder Man hangers on called "The Crazy 8". Wonder Man ultimately re-absorbed the ionic energy that empowered the spazzy team, but Stat was one of two who seemed to retain his power despite that. He created energy duplicates of himself, which may be worth milking considering how hot NARUTO has become. Anyway, Stat has that connection to Wonder Man and I like the idea of a young hero who ties into Wonder Man's legacy, yet ISN'T just a token super-strong tanker.
- I have nothing against Kate, nor nothing against her having Hawkeye's name. True, it merely reinforced that Heinberg has utterly no ability to create codenames (Stature? SPEED!? I'm surprised Wiccan wasn't named "Mage" or "Magic Lad" at that rate), but Clint was headin' down Bendis' TOILET OF RONIN anyway. He laid the seeds at the end of HOM. It was happening regardless, I am sure. Besides, Kate got the name from Capt. America himself, who is now dead, so she likely sees it as both permission and an honor to fulfill.
- I hope whoever takes over for a YA vol. 2 continues along where Heinberg was headed and allows the "twins" to have actually existed, and thus further showcase HOM as the waste it was. That means, yes, a writer who has the stones to step on Bendis' toes. They are rare at Marvel these days, but they exist. I mean, Bendis has made it no secret he'll do whatever he wants, and any hapless writer whose stories are impacted by Bendy's actions with a character/storyline has to just suck it up and work with or around it. Turnaround has to be a ***** at some point.
- Speaking of which, so far, ANYONE who has wanted to find Wanda, such as Clint or whoever in the Messiah build-up, has done so with zero difficulty. So the YA really should have little problem if they want to. And hey, just because Bendis' Dr. Strange, who can't defend himself from falling planes or ninjas with pointy swords, says it isn't worth doing, doesn't make it so. Rebellin' against adults is what the team is all about. That and beating up bad guys.
- I am glad that Hulkling will get a chance to meet his dad in the mini, and that Brain Reed is writing it. Brubaker likely will score a hit with his Patriot issue.
- Iron Lad has his moments, but I'm hardly dripping for a return. Besides, wasn't he just supposed to grow up and ensure Kang existed and the timeline was saved? Why screw with that more and make Kang any more ridiculously confusing than he already is? The poor guy's already been hindered by non use and what I call the "Too Needy to Kill You" flaw of some villains; they enjoy the challenge of battling their enemies so much that they can't seem to bring themselves to actually kill them when the time comes, thus losing any sort of suspence to their battles. It was like Thanos and his self-destructive tendancies (because he felt he was unworthy of Death's love until very recently). Kang needs to be a bad-ass, not an emo with a masochist streak ("Ooooh, punch me HARDER, Iron Man! In the 41st century, I am SO naughty!"). I doubt a return of Iron Lad will fix this. Vision 2.0 has his brain patterns, that's good enough for me. It MIGHT be interesting if someone revived the original Vision andriod and that got thrown into the mix. How does Vision see his "son" or "clone" or whatnot? Proud? Threatened? Disapproving? That kind of thing. Could be interesting.

One early solict mistakenly claimed Cassie's codename was "Titan", which seemed better to me. Stature just rolls off the tongue oddly to me in a name.
Speed is just too blunt. Imagine if I named an invulnerable person "Durabile". Granted, before someone throws it in my face, there are characters with blunt names that I do like, such as Gravity (well, sort of) and Invincible. But Speed just seems too...obvious. Like anyone, ANY ONE on the face of the entire earth, if given a task to name a character with super-speed, would think of that. Imagine a gunslinger named Guns. It just seems lazy. But now I feel like Mark Grayson lecturing Spidey in MTU. :p
It seems to me like she can only be found when she wants to be.
So far, EVERYONE has been able to find her if they really looked. Go to Transia or where-ever, wander around, Poof. If the YA can't do that, it will be very silly.

So do most writers when you tell them, "Beast was an Avenger for years in real time." :p
Granted, I didn't read the build up to Messiah Complex, so who knows. Just from what I hear, anyone who stumbles around looking for Wanda in the right place finds her easily. Why no one seems to try to force her to undo M-Day beyond plot convience is unknown.

Yeah, Beast knew it was Wanda, he was trying to get through to her and ultimately decided it was best not to.

Which is a bull**** move as far as I'm concerned. That's three people now who know the whereabouts of Wanda and have done nothing to either bring her in, or put any kind of effort into protecting her from people who like to see her dead.
TheCorpulent1
12-05-2007, 08:25 AM
The latter I can't argue with, but I suspect the former hasn't been done because they fear her power and instability. That combination has already led to some major problems in the form of Disassembled, House of M, and M-Day when she was pushed even slightly over the edge. Beast and Hawkeye probably haven't tried to take her in because they don't want her to fly off the handle again and erase them from existence or annihilate part of a continent to get away from them or put polka-dots on every bunny in the world just because.
PhotoJones
12-05-2007, 08:28 AM
Yeah, but you can't just leave her out there, can you? I mean, I'd be more afraid of her being left to her own devices then the consequences of trying to bring her in.
TheCorpulent1
12-05-2007, 08:46 AM
It's a tricky proposition either way. She generally hasn't done much of anything when she's been left alone. Her past indiscretions were the result of stress from the Avengers, stress from her family, and stress from the resistance in House of M. Sure, the potential that she could do harm on her own exists, but evidence suggests that attempting to bring her in if she doesn't want to go--which, clearly, she doesn't or she would've done so on her own--would result more definitely in negative consequences. Leaving her alone (or banging her, if you're Hawkeye :whatever: ) is the lesser of two evils, plain and simple.
Kevin
12-05-2007, 08:48 AM
What if the way her 'final" spell worked (The one after "no more mutant" and that left her mindwiped) What if only those who don't want to harm her can find her? Unlikely, but possible.

So far, EVERYONE has been able to find her if they really looked. Go to Transia or where-ever, wander around, Poof. If the YA can't do that, it will be very silly.
Hawkeye was the only one who did that, seemingly without any prompting, but then, Wanda's role is very mysterious, so it isn't clear what, if anything, she might have done.
In Beast's case, he was led to Transia by a dream, presumably sent by Wanda herself in some form.

#1 - Ed Brubaker (art by Paco Medina)
#2 - Brian Reed (art by Harvey Talibao)
#3 - Robert Aguire-Sacasa
#4 - Paul Cornell
#5 - ?
#6 - ?
As to sales, I don't think it's ever been a question of sales; the first volume was a big hit, the CW crossover miniseries sold about the same; it was just a matter of them waiting on Heinberg.

2 years now. Heinberg honestly shouldn't have any say in what Marvel does with the Young Avengers, either. Granted, Marvel probably wants to not piss him off so he'll come back and do more work for them, but after a certain amount of time passes, delaying comics to pander to creators just becomes ridiculous.

TheCorpulent1
12-06-2007, 10:29 AM
Which Marvel would do in a heartbeat. Smith is a far bigger name to the general public than any comic writer short of Stan Lee. Heinberg's not as big, but he could probably still get Marvel exposure to other markets. For that kind of potential mass-market penetration, why wouldn't they kiss Smith's ass and just shrug and smile when his comics are years late?

I don't recall that. After #12 of the first volume, Heinberg said he wouldn't be available for a while, and Marvel unexpectedly offered to hold the series for him, which they did for a while.
